Call url in pl/sql code

I am adding a pl/sql item in a content area. On click in this item i want to redirect in a page. This is the code i added.
owa_util.redirect_url('http://www.oracle.com');
The problem is that on click appears the message :
<< Location: http://www.oracle.com >> whithout explore the page i want (http://www.oracle.com)
Does anybody knows the correct procedure in order to explore the url i want?

OK. I found it. The procedure i want is portal30.wwv_redirect.url('http://...')

    The above procedure will be defined as concurrent program in Oracle EBS.This concurrent program will call the bpel process.My question is how should i design the bpel process so that bpel will know it is called by a concurrent program?
    My BPEL is doing picking a file by FTP adapter and inserting data into a table.
    Please throw some lights on this!!

    Option 1:
    You have to design the service as a synchronous BPEL process
    1. Do a synchronous ftp get to read the file.
    2. Transform and write it into database table
    3. Reply results back to plsql
    Disadvantage: Your BPEL process should complete from BPEL timeout happens.
    Option 2:
    1. Enqueue the message into AQ from the concurrent program
    2. From the BPEL monitor the AQ, start the process when the message arrives
    3. Do a synchronous ftp get to read the file.
    4. Transform and write it into database table
    You cannot reply the results back to concurrent program.
    5. However, you could have another AQ to send the results back to concurrent program.
    6. Your concurrent program should listen to the resultsAQ to get the results back from BPEL.
    Option 2 is a relliable design.

  • Can a PL/SQL code of timesten be called in oracle or vice versa

    Hi
    In IMDB cache setup with AWT cache group , the pl/sql code or procedure that is written in oracleDB can it be called in TimesTen and vice versa
    example: In a stored procedure the DML's that are performed will be updating the cache tables and log table in oracleDB.
    Will there be any performance impact.
    Regards
    Siva Kumar

    A PL/SQL procedure can exist in Oracle DB, in TimesTen, or in both. You control that by where you create the procedure. Procedures that exist in Oracle can really only be called in Oracle and can only access data in Oracle. Procedures that exist in TimesTen can only be called in TimesTen and can only access data in TimesTen. There is a limited capability, using the TimesTen PassThrough capability to call PL/SQL procedures located in Oracle, from Timesten, and for Timesten PL/SQL procedures to access data in Oracle. Using PassThrough does have some overhead.

  • Calling Workflow background process' explicitly in pl/sql code

    Hi All,
    We have a requirement where we have to call the 'Workflow background process' explicitly in pl/sql code.
    What we want is that we are having some request that runs via a concurrent program, but before that request completes we want to put that on wait and run the 'Workflow background process' explicitly in the code itself (user need not go and manually run it).
    Can anyone please advice me how do I do this in a PL/SQL code that is called via a concurrent program.

    Can somebody help me on this
    It would be better If you can give me sample code.

    You would be looking at 'calling an external procedure'.
    I've never done this before, but maybe the documentation can help get started.

  • How to reference LEVEL in a TREE's SQL code

    Is it possible to somehow reference LEVEL in a tree's sql code so that you can use a decode statement to selectively create links on specific levels only i.e. NOT on the root level?
    e.g.
    select "CHILD_ID" id,
    "PARENT_ID" pid,
    "NAME" name,
    decode( LEVEL, 1, null,'f?p=' || :APP_ID || ':43:' || :APP_SESSION || '::::P43_CHILD_ID:' || CHILD_ID) link,
    null a1,
    null a2
    from TREETABLE
    order by name
    one solution I've implemented is to create a DB function e.g.
    create or replace function get_tree_level(v_child_id number) return number
    is
    v_level number(2);
    begin
    select level
    into v_level
    from TREETABLE
    where child_id=v_child_id
    start with child_id=1
    connect by prior child_id= parent_id;
    return v_level;
    end;
    and then use
    decode( get_tree_level(child_id) 1, null,'f?p=' || :APP_ID || ':43:' || :APP_SESSION || '::::P43_CHILD_ID:' || CHILD_ID) link,
    but this is too slow as I have quite a few records in the tree and takes too long to render
    regards
    Paul P

    OK I found a workaround after reading
    How to add URL to tree
    The view my tree is build on is constructed out of 3 unions and 4 "selects" ( the first select creates the ROOT NODE where "1" is also used as a hard coded foreign key (Parent_id), in the company table.)
    I just added a new column called tree_level to the query which is hard coded wrt its level on the hierarchy.
    e.g.
    CREATE OR REPLACE FORCE VIEW COMCONSTUTREE ("CHILD_ID", "PARENT_ID", "NAME","TREE_LEVEL") AS
    select 1 as child_id,to_number(null) as parent_id ,'Company' as name,*1 as tree_level* from dual
    UNION
    select COM_ID, 1, COM_NAME,2
    from company
    UNION
    select CON_ID,CON_COMPANY_ID, substr(con_name,instr(con_name,' ')+1) ||', '||substr(con_name,1,instr(con_name,' ')-1),3
    from contact
    UNION
    select STU_ID,STU_CONTACT_ID, STU_LAST_NAME||', '||STU_FIRST_NAME ,4
    from student;
    the tree code now becomes
    select "CHILD_ID" id,
    "PARENT_ID" pid,
    "NAME" name,
    decode( tree_level,1, null,'f?p=' || :APP_ID || ':43:' || :APP_SESSION || ':TREE:::P43_CHILD_ID:' ||CHILD_ID) link,
    null a1,
    null a2
    from COMCONSTUTREE"
    order by name

  • Calling url from a form - err using ".value" method

    I'm trying to call url from a form, which seems to be the subject of many of these Posts.
    I have a form with a combo box/LOV and a button. The LOV will read a url into the combo box from a table of url's.
    I used the following code in the "OnClick" Java Script Event Handler section, which I pieced together from other posts in this and other forums. (i.e. I'm a pl/sql programmer trying to use Java Scripts for the first time).
    OnClick
    var X = FORM_DRWING.DEFAULT.A_DRILLDOWN_PATH.value;
    run_form(x);
    When I attempt to run this form from the "manage" window, I get a run time error "FORM_DRWING is undefined" upon clicking the button. FORM_DRWING "IS" the name of the form!
    The runform() function in the "before displying form" pl/sql code section is
    htp.p('<script language="JavaScript1.3">
    < !--
    function runForm(v_link)
    window.open(V_LINK);
    //-->
    </script>');
    This code was from yet another Post.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Larry
    null

    Hi Larry,
    the problem could be that you need to preface your form with 'document.'.
    i.e.
    var X = document.FORM_DRWING.DEFAULT.A_DRILLDOWN_PATH.value;

    Here in this case even though i specify the report id in the parameter,debugger message says that 'You did not specify the name'.
    The same code is working in some other server and giving the pdf output.
    Thanks in advance for any clarification.

    Hello Chirag,
    If you want to invoke and run a report from your PL/SQL code in the database, you can do so by installing and using the SRW package supplied with Reports. This package allows you to run parametrized report jobs on a specified Reports Server from your PL/SQL program and track the job status. Please take a look at the documentation for this package in the Publishing Reports manual on OTN at: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/A92102_01/toc.htm.
    On the other hand, if you just need to invoke the Reports Builder program from your PL/SQL routine, you would need to use the default builtin for calling external applications from PL/SQL.
    Thanks,
    The Oracle Reports Team.

    This seems to be your problem, the pipe is wrongly defined. On Windows it looks like
    \\.\pipe1

  • PL/SQL code written in db or in application...????

    Hi ,
    Which is the best...at performance , maintability... e.t.c.???
    To write PL/SQL as validation process of data values going to be inserted in db:
    1) as db trigger (before insert or update row-level trigger)
    2) in application level - in Forms10g...
    This PL/SQL code compares some pairs of data values only.... there DML statement....
    Both db server and App server are considered to be or in the same machine or in two machines very close to each other...
    Note: i use Db10g .
    Thanks...
    Sim

    It is all about moving parts. How many there are. Where they are located.
    The less moving parts, the less the complexity, the bugs - and the better the performance (less wheels to turn to crunch data), the easier the maintenance and the better the flexibility.
    Part of this is having the moving parts close to the data. Kind of obvious - what is faster? Shipping data from the db engine to a front-end application via a app server and web server? Or shipping the data from the db (SQL) engine to a PL/SQL process running as part and parcel of db instance? IPC is significantly faster than TCP/IP.
    Having the moving parts close to the data also means that it can scale with the data. Oracle is good at scalability. It is designed at its very core to be scalable. Partitions to reduce I/O. Shared Server to reduce o/s resource footprint per client session. Shared pool to re-use SQL. DB buffer to cache data. RAC to run multiple db instances for a single physical database. Etc. Etc.
    With the application moving parts being close to the data, it inherits this scalability. You can "multi-thread" application code using table pipelines. You have access to forking application code using background processes (DBMS_JOB and DBMS_SCHEDULER). You have bulk processing in order to transfer more data per SQL engine call, between the buffer cache and your application, and thus also reduce expensive context switching.
    This list goes on and on.
    All this is summarised into the following rules.
    Rule 1. Do it in SQL.
    Rule 2. Only when SQL cannot do it, use PL/SQL. (e.g. SQL is not suited for managing and controlling process flow - PL/SQL is)
    Rule 3. Only when PL/SQL cannot do it, use <insert-language-here> (e.g. PL/SQL cannot render a Windows grid on the client - but Delphi/C#//Java can).
    Also keep in mind that in the modern client-server paradigm we deal with a web architecture. Which means the client is a web browser. And this means that PL/SQL can pass the data (HTML) required by the client (web browser) to render the User Interface.
    Have a look at APEX (Oracle's Application Express) for how this works. http://apex.oracle.com
    All you need to develop web applications is APEX (a PL/SQL product suite in the database) and a web browser. Kickass stuff... :-)
