Calling a class in JSP page using Tomcat 5.5

Hi,
I want to call a java class in a JSP page but getting error.
I am trying to deploy JSP through a WAR file so for that I have created folder structure as per requirement and in WEB-INF folder, I kept web.xml file.
What entry exactly I have to make in web.xml file as I am using Tomcat 5.5 webserver. When the same code I put in JSP then it works.
my web.xml entry is
<servlet>
<servlet-name>TBS</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>pack1.GetData</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>TBS</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/JSP/TBS_main</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
Do I need to change in it or we have to make some more entries in different XML files.
Please help me to resolve this issue.
Thanks
Mukesh

you dont have to specify the class file in the web.xml just import it on your jsp then instatiate the class on the scriplet and you can call the methods on it.

  • Cant find bean class from jsp page using Tomcat 4

    Hi
    I have searched numerpus forums and seen many posts from people who seem to have the same problem however none of the solutions seem to work for me.
    I have a jsp page which is trying to call a bean method however I get an error
    saying that the class for the bean cannot be found. I have :
    1. put the class in a package called kolaBean under
    C:\Program Files\Apache Tomcat 4.0\webapps\ROOT\begjsp-ch01\WEB-INF\classes\kolaPackage
    2. included the package statement in the java file for the bean
    3. included an empty constructor in the java file for the bean
    4. I have declared the above constructor as public (is this necessary?)
    5. used the full package name:
    kolaPackage.kolaBean bakedBean = new kolaPackage.kolaBean();
    6. imported import java.beans.*; (is this necessary ?)
    7. still got the same error...
    Any pointers really really appreciated
    Thanks

    in reply to David Rons email:
    Is this a fresh install of tomcat? If so, it could be a configuration
    problem.Yes it is
    Is the class public in the package (I forget that all the time)?Yes it is. I have also declared the constructor to be public is this
    necessary?
    What's the error message?here is the error message:

  • Calling my Java class from JSP page

    Hello, I am trying to call my Java class from my JSP page passing parameters to it and getting back a collection of result sets. Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong:

    String strProcessingMonth = "JUL";
    String strProcessingYear = "2002";
    strQueryList=new ListReturn(strEssUser.toString(), strProcessingMonth.toString(), strProcessingYear.toString());

  • Can not call bean class from JSp/Tomcat 5.5

    hello everyone...
    i m using one bean class Parser which is called by discussion.jsp page. i put class file in webapps/grid/WEB-INF/classes and JSP page is in webapps/grid/. The whole combination is working fine for tomcat 3.3.2 but not working properly in tomcat 5.5.
    Error is as follow...
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    An error occurred at line: 38 in the jsp file: /discussion.jsp
    Generated servlet error:
    Parser cannot be resolved or is not a typeplease help me....
    Thank in Advance

    You still need to import the class from the default package. As a word of advice you should put the class in a package. The later versions of Tomcat do not play well with bean classes that are not in packages.

    I had very similar problems with adding the correct JDeveloper .jar files to Tomcat's lib folder, but did eventually resolve my issues.
    The problem I am having now, however, is the following error message:
    Error Message: oracle.jbo.html.RequestParameters.addParameter(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)V
    Yes, I have deployed the bc4jhtml.jar file from JDeveloper to Tomcat\common\lib!
    My web-app is a very simple BC4J JSP application. I have one BC4J component in its own project and JAR file, and one JSP referencing that BC4J component - I deploy the BC4J JAR along with the WAR file from the JSP project. Needless to say, the JSP works fine within JDeveloper..!
    I'm using JDev 9.0.3 and Tomcat 4.1.12. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    S.

    Hi Ashok,
    You can use rwservlet - nothing really to do with JDeveloper. Once you have report server up and running (hint: read http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/bi.1012/b14048/toc.htm), you can call a report like this:
    http://server:port/rwservlet?report=my_report.rdf&destype=cache&desformat=html&p_my_parameter=xxx etcHope this helps,

    A Master Detail Page is a basically a game between two VOs(Master and Detail mostly connected through a View Link). You can also have a look at the View Link section in the Dev guide. Page Layouts is one thing which you can take a call yourself.

    thanks
    pullareddy

    Hi Pullareddy,
    Charles' answer will work for Servlets in Tomcat, but debugging JSPs is a bit more complicated than debugging Servlets.
    Here's what you need to do:
    (I don't have Tomcat, so I don't know the details of Tomcat configuration files and I can't guarentee that Tomcat provides the flexibility so that you can configure it for debugging JSPs. Each application server is configured a bit differently. Hopefully you can adjust the following instructions to Tomcat.)
    1. You need to replace Tomcat's JSP engine with OJSP and you need to setup debugging parameters for OJSP.
    This is not specifically in the JDev documentation, but you may be able to apply the information found in the topic "Remote Debugging in OC4J".
    Here are some tips:
    A. You'll probably need to specify the following jars in some Tomcat config file: ojsp.jar, ojsputil.jar, xmlparserv2.jar, ojc.jar, and jdev-rt.jar.
    B. The OJSP class name is oracle.jsp.runtimev2.JspServlet.
    C. The debug parameters are:
    debug_mode = true
    developer_mode = true
    encode_to_java = true
    emit_debuginfo = true
    jspjavacompiler = oracle.jdevimpl.jsp.JspOjcCompiler
    2. You need to make Tomcat start the Java command with debugging options. (This is what Charles was talking about. One of the debug options is -XXdebug). This is in the JDev documentation in the topic "Starting a Java Process in Debug Mode". Please read that documentation help topic.
    3. You need to delete any old .java or .class files which were created in the past for your JSP. If you leave old .java or .class files around, then the debugger may not be able to stop at breakpoints in your JSPs. So, be sure to clean up old files.
    4. Set your project settings for remote debugging. This is on the Debugger - Remote panel in the Project Settings dialog box. You probably want either Attach to OJVM or Attach to JPDA. Which radio button you choose depends on what command line options you specified in step 2.

    As the [HTML specification|http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/interact/forms.html] states, you should be setting the enctype to multipart/form-data to be able to upload files to the server. In the server side, you need to process the multipart/form-data binary stream by parsing the HttpServletRequest#getInputStream(). It is a lot of work to get it to work flawlessly. There are 3rd party API's around which can do that for you, such as [Apache Commons FileUpload|http://commons.apache.org/fileupload] (carefully read the User Guide how to use it).
    You can also consider to use a Filter which makes use of the FileUpload API to preprocess the request so that you can continue writing the servlet code as usual. Here is an example: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/11/multipartfilter.html].

    Hi,
    I am also trying that scenario. So u can

    In the servlet invoke the business method.
    Similar kind of app is in www.roseindia.net
    Hope this would help u.
    Meanwhile if u get any optimal solution, pls post it.
