Calling a servlet from a JSP page using the J2EE reference implementation

I have a JSP with an include tag as follows: <jsp:include page="servlet/ConnectionServlet" flush="true" />
When I use JRUN it works fine. I created an ear file and ported
the application to the J2EE reference implementation. When running the app under the J2EE reference implementation the ConnectionServlet is never called. I figured it must a deployment issue. I tried adding the ConnectionServlet.class file to the WEB-INF\classes file as servlet\ConnectionServlet.class but the JSP still can't find the servlet. Any ideas where I've gone wrong? TIA, Joe

I have a JSP with an include tag as follows:
<jsp:include page="servlet/ConnectionServlet"
flush="true" />Basically, WEB-INF/classes gets added to the classpath, so the directory structure under this folder should be identical to your package structure. If the ConnectionServlet.class is not actually in a package, then it should be directly in WEB-INF/classes (ie if "servlet" isn't actually the name of your package, don't use a WEB-INF/classes/servlet/" directory).
Then try taking out the "servlet" from your include tag, so you just have page="/ConnectionServlet" (not sure about the leading slash - try experimenting!)
if this doesn't work, try adding this to your WEB-INF/web.xml file:
<web-app><!-- the web-app tags may already be there - don't add more -->
<servlet>
<servlet-name>ConnectionServlet</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>your.full.package.here.ConnectionServlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>ConnectionServlet</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/ConnectionServlet</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
</web-app>
Good Luck!

  • Calling a Servlet from a JSP within Portal Portlet

    We've created a JSP that calls a Servlet when the form is submitted. The servlet handles the request, does some basic processing and then forwards back to a JSP. This works fine outside of Portal.
    What needs to be done in order for this to work within a portlet in Portal? We can get to the first JSP which is in a portlet, but as soon as we click the submit button (which tries to call the servlet) we get the basic page not found error. We need to click the button, go to the servlet and have the servlet forward back to our portlet.
    I know this is not the ideal way of using Portal however...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    I was wondering is there any way I can call a servlet from jsp? There are two scenarios here
    1 - if the jsp is currently being executed/evaluated on the server, then you can use <jsp:include> to "call" a servlet, or <jsp:forward> to cancel the jsp and transfer the control to the servlet.
    2 - if the page is already loaded and running in the client, then the only way to call a servlet is making a HTTP request as from any other html page. Jave code does not execute on the client, so you have to use html/javascript at that point.
    Calling a servlet within another servlet.
    lets say one servlet maintains all dynamic html. I call this servlet from another servlet to create a dynamic page and then insert values into it.Close, but the standard pattern is the reverse of that. What normally happens is you retrieve the values to put in the page, and then call the page, passing in those values. Thats why often you get a servlet/actionbean getting called, which then forwards to a JSP to display the result. The servlet/bean loads all the values required into scope, and then the JSP presents the data.

  • How to call a report from a jsp page

    Hi
    1) Can anyone please tell me how can i view Discoverer report from a jsp page instead of opening it directly thru plus/viewer.
    2) Please clarify do i need to install Infrastructure and OID for it.
    Please advice.
    Thanks

    You need the AS infrastructure if you want to use connections. If you do not intend using connections, you do not require the infrastructure.
    Note that you cannot pass in passwords in the URL any longer. You do not need to pass passwords if you pass in a Discoverer connection id (but then again - if you don't use connections, then you do need to still pass in the connection information - username, password, database, language, EUL)
    I have a post on my blog that describes how to pass a password using an HTML Form submit - http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2005/08/passing-password-to-viewer.html

  • Can we Call a Servlet from a OA Page?

    Hi All
    My requirement is to call a servlet's doPost method from ProcessFormRequest.
    I have created one custom OA page. One submit button is there on OA page.When i click submit button it will go to controller's proessFormRequest method and from this method i have to call servlet's doPost method.
    Can we do that?
    Please Suggest
    Best Regards
    Majid

    Hi Majid,
    You can use the following method.
    pageContext.setForwardURL("ABC.jsp",
    null, // not necessary with KEEP_MENU_CONTEXT
    OAWebBeanConstants.KEEP_MENU_CONTEXT, // no change to menu context
    null, // No need to specify since we're keeping menu context
    hashmap, // params, // request parameters
    true, // retain the root application module
    OAWebBeanConstants.ADD_BREAD_CRUMB_NO ,// display breadcrumbs
    OAWebBeanConstants.IGNORE_MESSAGES );//
    Thanks

  • Opening a Java Window from a jsp page on the client side

    Hi all,
    Thanks in advance to all who could help me for this problem.
    I've written some jsp pages. In one of them, I open a new Java Window,
    which is a simple Java Frame. If I test this directly on the Tomcat
    server, everything works well.
    But when I call the jsp page through a web browser of a distant client
    (normal use), and when I want to see the java window, no window pops
    up. It appears that the Java Window pops up on the server, and not on
    the client side, which is what I wanted.
    Could someone tell me how to make the Java frames appear on the client
    side ? (Is it linked to the code or to the configuration of Tomcat ?)
    Thanks in advance,
    Alexis.

    JSP always run on the server. On the client you only see the results.
    But you can use applets on the client side: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/applet.html

    You can extend this as far as you like -- it's really easy and MUCH MUCH easier than the old way with fieldcatalogs etc etc.

    If the pagecontainer_mc holds another movieclip that contains the button you are trying to target, then you need to include that loaded movieclip in the targeting.  And if contacts is that movieclip, then you should be able to target it directly using...
    var contacts:contatti = new contatti;
    contacts.contacts_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,showContacts);

    How do I call a Servlet from a JSP page?
    I have an JSP page that does a few things but when there is an error I need the JSP page to call a Servlet but do not know how to do it.
    I want to call a ServletFaillogin from a JSP page how can I do it?
    <html><head>
    <title> Login Page </title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <%@ page import= "portal.* " %>
    <jsp:useBean class="portal.PortalSystem" id="bean" scope="session" />
    <% try
      String servername = request.getParameter("servername");
      String username = request.getParameter("username");
      String password = request.getParameter("password");
      bean.Connect(servername, username, password);
    catch(Exception e)
       //******Here I need help *********
       action="http://localhost:8080/test/servlet/ServletFaillogin";

    I have changed the code but get error, why??
    I think it could be due to the way classes are located,
    All my HTML and JSP pages are at:

    The class ServletFaillogin is located here:

  • How do I call a 10g report from a jsp page securly?

    How can I call a report from a jsp page securly? We are migrating from 10g forms to J2EE, and we want to keep using our reports. In forms we were able to do this using a cookie. How can I pass a users credentials to reports without the user having to connect to the database? Single Sign-on isn't an option either.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,
    If you want to pass the user credentials to the report dynamically, then SSO (Single Sign-On) is the only option I can think of.
    If the user credentials can be hard-coded, then the following 2 solutions are possible:
    1. Use cgicmd.dat file, and write the user credentials in the file.
    2. In your report JSP itself, you could write the following:
    <rw:report id="report" parameters="userid=scott/tiger@mydb">
    Navneet.

  • Calling an Applet from a JSP

              Hi,
              I need help with this, I want to invoke an applet from a JSP page. The applet code
              is compiled and resides in a separate jar file. The question is, how do I deploy
              this applet in weblogic 6.1 and then have a JSP call this applet.
              --Krish.

    To call an applet from a jsp use the <jsp:plugin> tag
              <jsp:plugin
              type="applet"
              code="classFileName"
              codebase="classFileDirectoryName"
              [ align="bottom|top|middle|left|right" ]
              [ height="{displayPixels |  <%= expression %>}"]
              [ width="{displayPixels |  <%= expression %>}"]
              [ hspace="leftRightPixels" ]
              [ vspace="topBottomPixels" ]
              </jsp:plugin>

  • Inconsistency using SUN Rowset Reference Implementation

    I am Using the RowSet reference implemention with Oracle Database.
    I am having a class which takes a input in form of XML adhering to the webrowset format.
    The xml contains some records to be inserted , some records to be updated and some records to be deleted.
    This xml is then fed to a WebRowSet using the webRowSet.readXml method which takes a Reader as a parameter. I am using a StringReader here.
    Here is the code snippet:-
    public void executeUpdate(String webRowSetXML)throws SQLComponentException{
    System.out.println(" webRowSetXML "+webRowSetXML);
    StringReader sr = new StringReader(webRowSetXML);
    WebRowSet webRowSet = null;
    try {
    webRowSet = new WebRowSetImpl();
    webRowSet.readXml(sr);
    webRowSet.acceptChanges(connection);
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    // TODO Auto-generated catch block
    e.printStackTrace();
    I found here that the insertion and updating works without any problem , but the deletion doesn't work.
    Then to study this problem , i wrote a program with two WebRowSets, one will be the producer of the data and the other will be the consumer.
    the first WebRowSet will read the data from the data source , delete a record using the following piece of code:-
    wrs1.absolute(6);
    wrs1.deleteRow();
    And then i generate a String XML using the writeXML method.
    Then i feed this xml to the readXML method of the second WebRowSet and i call the acceptChanges method of the second WebRowSet. But the record doesn't get deleted.Also after printing the xml from the second WebRowSet , the <deleteRow> tag is absent from the xml.
    The same condition works properly for the insert and update operation and the respective <insertRow> and <updateRow> methods appear in both the xml's generated from both the WebRowSet's.
    Is this a bug in the webRowSet implemention or is it a problem of Oracle? Or is it that something else needs to be done for the delete operation to work.
    I tried the same thing with Pervasive SQL instead of oracle. Here only the insert operation works.
    Any body please help me in solving this problem...

    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/javax/sql/RowSet.html
    From the sun desc above.
    The RowSet interface is unique in that it is intended to be implemented using the rest of the JDBC API. In other words, a RowSet implementation
    is a layer of software that executes "on top" of a JDBC driver.
    Implementations of the RowSet interface can be provided by anyone,
    including JDBC driver vendors who want to provide a RowSet
    implementation as part of their JDBC products.

  • Calling a servlet (in Tomcat) from a JSP Page (in Apache)

    I have a web form in my JSP Page, which upon submits, will send the params to a servlet. The servlet will then process the request and send the results back to the calling JSP Page.
    with that above senario, is there any way for me to reference a servlet (resides in Tomcat) from a JSP Page (resides in Apache HTTP Server)?
    Thanks!

    Apache HTTP server isn't a servlet/JSP engine.
    Your JSP runs on Tomcat, right where the servlet does. Apache just forwards the request.

  • How do I Display a string from a servlet into a JSP Page???? NEED HELP!!!!

    Hi guys,
    How do I Display a string from a servlet into a JSP Page...
    Ive tried so many bloody things!.....
    Simply.
    I get text from JSP. The servlet does what ever it does to the string.
    Now. Ive create sessions and bean things,.... how the hell do I display it in a text box... I can display on the screen.. but not in the text box.!!!
    please help!!!

    hmmm, I dont really like using JSP programming, u should be using JAVA..
    the way to do it is:
    Call and cast to the bean like this:
    <%@ page import="beans.*" %>
    <% //cast to bean get request create object
    userNameBean u= (userNameBean) request.getSession().getAttribute("userNameBean");
    then... all you do is call it like this:
    <input type="text" name="firstName" value="<%= u != null? u.getFirstName(): "" %>">
    this is the real programmers way,,,

  • Insert data into table from JSP page using Entity Beans(EJB 3.0)

    I want to insert data into a database table from JSP page using Entity Beans(EJB 3.0).
    1. I have a table 'FRIENDS', (in Oracle 10g database).
    2. It has two columns, 'NAME' and 'CITY'. Both have datatype strings(varchar2).
    3. Now from a JSP page, having two textfields, 'NAME' and 'CITY', I want to insert data into table 'FRIENDS'.
    4. In between JSP and database is a Entity Bean(EJB 3.0) and a stateless session bean.
    5. I am using JDev as editor.
    Please provide me code ASAP or link with similar example.
    Thank you.
    Anurag

    Hi,
    I am also trying that scenario. So u can
    Post the jsp form data to a Servlet which will act as a Controller.
    In the servlet invoke the business method.
    Similar kind of app is in www.roseindia.net
    Hope this would help u.
    Meanwhile if u get any optimal solution, pls post it.
    Thanks,
    Happy Java Coding.
