Calling AIX database from Windows

Hi,
I've the following requirment.
When any files is added in particular folder in Windows NT, I need to add that file name in a database(DB2) which resides in AIX(IBM's Unix) Operating System?
Please, let me know how to acheive the same.
Thanks & Regards
Venkatesh C

Hallo,
I would suggest using JDBC or JDBC/ODBC to access the DB2 database on the AIX machine.
A question: how are you planning to tell whether a file is added to the Windows NT directory? Does your application add the file? If so, then you 'know' automatically that you need to add the filename to your database.
If anyone can add a file to the folder, then I would question whether Java was the right language. It might be easier to use C/C++. Under NT (it is some years since I did this), you can install a callback function, which must be written with C/C++ which is called whenever a file is added to a directory. You can than use the callback function to trigger your database update.

  • Moving oracle 9i database from windows 2000 to windows 2003 server

    hi everybody,
plz provide me a solution how to move oracle 9i database from windows 2000 server to windows 2003 server with step by step and also with commands plz as i am very new to oracle
    thanks in advance
    suresh

Install 9i on windows 2003 server and patch to the same level as the Oracle on Windows 2k
Shutdown and make a cold backup of your old database. That includes datafiles, controlfiles, redo files, init file (spfile)
Copy and put these files to the exact same directory structure/location, for example if old file is under D:\oradata\mysid\ then the file on new file should be under same directory. (If you are using Network Storage that make things easier, just mapping to the same drive letter.)
Also make sure archive log dest and all dump dest directories are created. You don't have to copy all old logs and dump files over.
Use oradim to create a new service for the database instance
    http://www.psoug.org/reference/oradim.html
Set proper ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID envionment varibles
Run netca to configure listener, actually copy listener.ora and tnsnames.ora to $ORACLE_HOME\network\admin will do
    Try to start the database

  • Migrating database from windows to linux using dbca templates

    Hi every one,
Is it possible to migrate Oracle10g database from Windows to Linux by using DBCA templates?????????????
If yes please guide me, as i tried it and am getting error while creating database on linux using DBCA templates of Windows server.
    Warm regards,
    Veeresh.S
    (Oracle DBA)

With DBCA you can create a new database, delete a database, create ASM, and manage templates.
There's no option of migrating a database from one platform to the other. If you want to migrate your database from Windows to Linux you have 2 ways of doing it:
1 using IMP/EXP Export you db on windows and Import it on Linux.
2 Use across platform transportable tablespace if you db is already on 10g.

  • Migrating database from windows to unix

Can anyone, please suggest me some reading on migrating a database from windows to unix? Thanks

Yes an export import is the most likely migration path you have. There is another option. You may install, just temporarily a 10g environment on the windows platform, then upgrade using the DBUA from 8i to 10g on the same platform. This way you will make sure you don't miss a piece of data during the migration process.
Once your database is at the 10g platform, you may proceed with a transport tablespace from 10g win to 10g unix. Violà, your database will be on the 10g platform.
Next, deinstall the windows temporary 10g installation.
    Notes:
    1. Make sure your 8i db is at the latest patchset available at 8i (8.1.7.4.0)
    2. Define which unix platform you are referring to. It's because of endian issues.

  • Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ?

    Hi Friends,
Is it possible to Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ? ( as i would like to perform Point In Time recovery)
(or) The only way is to use RMAN convert as mentioned here  - Transporting Data Across Platforms
(or) Is there any other method (except exp/imp and data pump)
    Regards,
    DB

    HI
his post describes the procedure required to migrate a database from Windows to Linux using the RMAN Convert Database command.
Both Windows and Linux platforms have the same endian format, which makes possible to transfer the whole database, making the migration process very straightforward and simple.
To migrate between platforms that have a different endian format, Cross Platform Transportable Tablespaces (XTTS) needs to be used instead.
List of Steps Needed to Complete the Migration
The migration process is simple, but as it has several steps it is convenient to be familiar with them before running it.
    1. Check platform compatibility between source and target OS
    2. Start the database in read only mode
    3. Check database readiness for transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB.CHECK_DB
    4. Check if there are any external objects
    5. Execute the Rman Convert database command
    6. Copy converted datafiles, generated Transport Script and Parameter File to Linux
    7. Edit the init.ora for the new database
    8. Edit the Transport Script and Parameter File changing the windows paths to Linux Paths
    9. Execute the Transport Script
    10.Change the Database ID
    11.Check database integrity
    Thank you

  • Is it possible to move the local CD database from Windows to Mac?

I have/had iTunes installed on a Windows box. Windows knows all my CD and track titles (some customised from those in the online CDDB). There are more than 250 CDs, so it is a lot of data (if I have to retype it all...)
I have recently moved to a Mac. The ripped library files copied across just fine (even kept the album artwork).
However, the Mac doesn't know any CD/track titles, so when I insert a CD, there are no names. The Mac is not on the net, and probably never will be. I want to move the copy of the local CD database from the windows machine to the Mac. Is this possible? How?
Dual G4 Tower   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Also Windows XP
Dual G4 Tower   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Also Windows XP

I imagine you will need to network your PC with your Mac to transfer or transfer your Library from your PC to an external drive then hook this up to your Mac and transfer.

  • Converting a Database from Windows 2003 Server to HP-UX Itanium

    Hi
I have to convert a database Oracle11g (11.1.0.6.0) from Windows 2003 Server to HP-UX Itanium. Both installation are in the same version. I know there are methods to convert it with RMAN ( Restore/Recover converting the database files ) or with transportable tablespaces. Can you give advices or comment me your experiencies on it ?.
    Thanks

The RMAN's convert command is going to be needed if the endian format of both the o/s is not same. I didn't check this so please check that whether the source and target are on the same endian or not. If not, you must use the RMAN. If yes, then using transport tablespace would do the job.

  • Moving a database from windows oracle xe to linux oracle 10g Enterprise

I tried exporting my database in windows oracle xe over the network to oracle 10g Enterprise Edition on a linux platform but I got the following error message:
    ---10.0.2.0 not compatible.
I then did a local export in windows and moved the dumpfile to linux and I got the following error message:
    ---Bad dumpfile
Please kindly assist me with a suggestion on how to migrate my database.
    Thanks.
    Lauretta.

Which version of Oracle do you run on windows?
I think, you didn't move the dump file using binary option on linux and that is why you got 'bad dump'.
Make sure you ftp the file in binary mode.

  • Connect to Oracle Database from Windows Mobile

Is there any Oracle Client product that will allow Windows mobile powered devices to connect to an oracle database? I'm using .net and the compact framework 2.0.
    Anyone have a clue?
    Regards,
    Andras Eliassen

I think I would call it a client tool. Maybe I wasn't so precise in my previous post, sorry. What I need is basically this:
I have a 9i database that is running on a unix box on my network. I have created a Visual Basic .Net application that is using ODT to select, insert, update and delete records in this database - and also executes some stored procedures.
Now I'm trying to move to the next step, and I want my windows mobile powered device/phone to do the same thing - Select, insert, update, delete and execute stored proc/pckgs on the database.
The only way I have found to do this, is by implementing some webservice or something in between my windows mobile device, and the database, because I cannot find dataaccess drivers/components (ODT or the like) that will work on a windows mobile powered device.
    Any suggestions?

    Andras Eliassen

is that mean it is not possible to restore the db from one platform to another?
(I read some oralce note that it is possible to setup datagurad between window and linux)
    Thank
    Vincent

    Vincent;
is that mean it is not possible to restore the db from one platform to another? It's possible, but there's quite a lot of planning that needed to be done.
The Database Backup and Recovery User's Guide should have a section on Transporting Data Across Platforms.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmxplat.htm
You need to use dbms_tdb.check_db to test if it can be done with the OS's you have in mind.
There's a fairly good example here, but not using the exact OS's you have in mind.
    http://mohamedazar.com/2011/06/08/transport-an-entire-database-to-a-different-platform/
My understanding is it won't transport certain items :
    Control files and Redo logs
    Bfiles
    Temp files
    External tables
    Directories
    Password files
Also you need to create a new instance before you can use RMAN backups from the source.
    Here's another example :
