Calling another java class from a java class

Hi Friends,
I have a class tht works in 2 modes,depending upon which mode i am passing (gui or text) on the command line eg:
java myclass [mode]
I want to call this command from another java class,and i wrote this code:
try
         Process theProcess =
            Runtime.getRuntime().exec("java myclass  "+args[0]);
      catch(IOException e)
         System.err.println("Error on exec() method");
         e.printStackTrace();
      }When i pass "gui" it works fine,but when i pass"text", the class completes and nothing shows up on the command prompt window,so can please somebody tell me how to make this work.
Thanks

As aniseed just pointed out, you could do something like this:
import javax.swing.*;
class Test extends JFrame {
     public Test(String title) {
          this.setTitle(title);
          this.pack();
          this.setSize(300, 300);
          this.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
          this.setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
     public static void main(String[] argv) { new Test(argv[0]).setVisible(true); }
public class Test2 {
     public static void main(String[] argv) {
          Test.main(argv);
}Run it by executing this command:
java Test2 "Title of Frame"See if that's not what you're looking for ...

  • How do I call another exe file from a Java program?

    Hi,
    I am doing a simple IDE (text editor/interpreter) for a simple programming language we are developing. It will be submitted as our project for this semester. I created an exe file (in C) which will be used as the interpreter. How do I call the interpreter from my IDE? The interpreter should run when the user clicks a button (i.e. the "Run" button). I've tried the Java Runtime class but it doesn't work. Anyone who knows how to do it?
    Thanks!

    I first tried to do a simple program that calls system commands such as dir, cd <dir>, etc.
    I do not have the exact code right now but as far as I can remember, here's what I wrote:
    class Sample{
        public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException{
           BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
           String command;
           while ((command = in.readLine()).equalsIgnoreCase("exit") == false){
              try{
                Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
              }catch(Exception e){
                 System.err.println("Error: " + e);
          System.exit(0);
    }

  • Extracting specific detial about class from the JAVA API created by Javadoc

    hi ,
    Bacialy I need to get detials of all classes from the Java packages for my project. So i thought getting detials from the Java API document might be one way of doing it. If any one tell me some package or software which can get particulat text from the API document that will be great.
    Thank you,
    Raj

    Hi,
    I think, much easier way would be to write a little doclet. That doclet would take the information you need directly from the Doclet API and generate by it a plain text with the content you wish (for instance, as an SQL script that loads everything into a certain database).
    Obtaining this from the generated HTML documentation just adds one extra step (and a lot more complicated, by the way).
    Also, you can avoid even writing a doclet.
    There is a tool called DocFlex/Javadoc:
    http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/
    It is a template-driven doclet, which can be easily programmed to do the job. (However, a license will be needed).

    Ahh, kind of a duplicate thread:
    http://forums.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=631642
    @OP. You could have clarified your original post and the relationship of your question to java. You did not need a new thread.

    Any help is greatly appreciated,

    Thank you for your suggestion.
    I tried it, but got the same result. I think the difference in the syntax is due to the Oracle versus SQL92 standard
    conformance. Your statament is the Oracle version and mine is the SQL92. I think both statements are acceptable
    by the Oracle.

    @OP. You could have clarified your original post and the relationship of your question to java. You did not need a new thread.

  • Invoke a method in one class from a different class

    I am working on a much larger project, but to keep this simple, I wrote out a little test that would convey the over all theory of the program.
    What I am doing is starting out with a 2 JFrames and a Class. When the program is launched, the first JFrame opens. In this JFrame is a label and a button. When the button is clicked, the second JFrame opens. This JFrame has a textField and a button. The user puts the text in the textField and presses the button. When the button is pushed, I want the text that was just put in the textField, to be displayed in the first JFrame's label. I am trying to invoke a method in the first JFrame from the second, but nothing happens. I have also tried making the Class extend from JFrame1 and invoke it from there, but no luck. So, how do I invoke a method in a class from a different class?
    JFrame1 (I omitted the layout part. I made this in Netbeans so its pretty long)

         public void setName(String n)
              name = n;
    }The second jFrame
    private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
         NewClass1 nC = new NewClass1();
         NewJFrame1 nF = new NewJFrame1();
         nC.setName(jTextField1.getText());
         nF.setLabels();
         System.out.println(nC.getName());At this point I am begging for help. I have been trying for days to figure this out, and I just feel like I am not getting anywhere.
    Thanks

    So, how do I invoke a method in a class from a different class?Demo:
    public class Main {
        public static void main(String [] args) {
         Test1 t1 = new Test1();
         Test2 t2 = new Test2();
         int i = t1.method1();
         String s = t2.method2(i);
         System.out.println(s);
    class Test1 {
        public int method1() {
         return 10;
    class Test2 {
        public String method2(int i) {
         if (i == 10)
             return "ten";
         else
             return "nothing";
    }Output is "ten".

  • Calling another ITS service from existing ITS service

    Hi to Everyone,
    I would like your advice on calling another ITS service from existing ITS service.
    From my current ITS service eg. "Z_TESTA", i wish to call another ITS service "Z_TESTB". The problem is that it always prompt for userid and password when i called the 2nd ITS service. However, user already enter the password & id when they login to the 1st ITS service. Is there a way to call this new ITS service w/o the userid & password prompt again?
    Below is the codes that we used to call the new ITS service:
    (a) "http://.../scripts/wgate/webgui/!?~transaction=z_testb"
    OR
    (b) "http://.../scripts/wgate/z_testb/!"
    We used both method (a) and (b) but same outcome. Thank you in advance!
    YanaJ

    Hi YanaJ,
    in order to skip a manual login you have to have the credentials somewhere. If you disabled cookies, what I told you will not work. Another possibility would the usage of X509 client certificates. But this requires that you have a setup that distributes the certificates of all of your users. I personally nether setup such scenario. Maybe someone other can explain what you have to do.
    Best regards,
    Klaus

  • Accessing private attribute of a class from its Friend Class

    Hi Experts ,
    Please help me to understand how can i access private attribute of one class from its friend class.
    I am coding in Method (DO_SAVE) of class /BOBF/CL_TRA_TRANSACTION_MGR.
    I need to access private variable ( MO_BOPF) of class /BOBF/CL_TRA_SERVICE_MGR ( Friend of /BOBF/CL_TRA_TRANSACTION_MGR ).
    Regards,
    Reny Richard

    Hi Reny,
    You should be able to access by creating object of friend class.
    Sample:
    data lo_frnd     TYPE REF TO  /BOBF/CL_TRA_SERVICE_MGR.
    data lo_compl  type REF TO /BOBF/IF_TRA_TRANS_MGR_COMPL.
       create OBJECT lo_frnd
         exporting
                   iv_bo_key = '111'
                   IO_COMPL_TRANSACTION_MANAGER = lo_compl.
    "access the private object of friend class
       clear lo_frnd->MO_BOPF.
    Note: need to provide iv_bo_key & IO_COMPL_TRANSACTION_MANAGER while creating object.
    Hope this helps you.
