Calling another object's method

I have made a GUI in swing.
I have a class object with all my database methods in it.
I am having problems calling a particular method in my Database Object and displaying the ResultSet of that method in my Swing GUI.
here is the code from the GUI calling the object:
public void displayUAI() {
     String course2, Min2, Rev2; //the object types to be sent
     int num1, num2;
     Min2 = newUAI2.getText();
     Rev2 = newRevUAI2.getText();
     num1 = Integer.parseInt(Min2);
     num2 = Integer.parseInt(Rev2);
     course2 = (String)Course.getSelectedItem();
     DataBaseTools.displayUAI(num1, num2, course2); //the database object method that i'm trying to call
//The following 2 lines are what i would like to happen after i invoke the method in the database object; i would like to update these two textfields with the database results found
     newUAI2.setText(Min2);
     newRevUAI2.setText(Rev2);
}//end displayUAI()*/
This is the code for the method in the Database-class object:
     public static void displayUAI(int min, int rev, String Course){
          try {
          Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
          database+= filename.trim() + IDnState; // add on to the end
          Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection( database ,"","");
          String query = "SELECT * FROM Course where Name= ('" + Course +"')";
          Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
                         // Create a result set containing all data from my_table
                              ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
                              //System.out.println("Athlete DB being updated...:");
                              while (rs.next()) {
                                   String mina, reva;
                                   mina = rs.getString("Min");
                                   reva = rs.getString("Rev");
                                   min = Integer.parseInt(mina);
                                   rev = Integer.parseInt(reva);
                         stmt.close();
                         con.close();
                    } catch(Exception ex) {
                         System.err.println("SQLException: " + ex.getMessage());
}//end displayUAI()
Basically i just want the method to be invoked and the results shown in my SWING GUI.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Hi,
just pass a reference to each of your two textfields in your DB method call... like:
   //In the calling class
   DataBaseTools.displayUAI(num1, num2, course2, newUAI2, newRevUAI2);
   //In the DatabaseTools class
   public static void displayUAI(int min, int rev, String Course, JTextField txtmin, JTextField txtrev){
      mina = rs.getString("Min");
      reva = rs.getString("Rev");
      min = Integer.parseInt(mina);
      rev = Integer.parseInt(reva);
      txtmin.setText(Min2);
      txtrev.setText(Rev2);
   }That should do the trick,
Regards.

  • Calling another class's method

    I realize this is a basic question but I am stumped. I am updating existing code so do not have total freedom. To make my situation simple, I have two classes, say, ComplexDialog1 and ComplexDialog2. Each has a Checkbox. I need to know the States of both Checkboxes from either class. How do I do that? Since these classes are dialogs, I cannot simply instantiate another dialog to gain access to its methods. I thought about casting, something like, (ComplexDialog2)getCheckboxState, (where getCheckBoxState consists of checkbox.getState), but of course that won't compile. A global variable would be great, but those don't exist in Java. Any serious answers will be appreciated.

Since these classes are dialogs, I cannot simply instantiate another dialog to gain access to its methods. At any rate this is where the design problem really is. It seems the state of your application is residing partially at least in these GUI classes. Which is wrong. The GUI is for display not for the logic and storing of state of the application. For more on this you should learn about MVC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model-view-controller
    So how are you going to solve this problem?
    Well the long and probably verbotten way is to fix the design.
    The shorter, possibly (and only in the short term because in the long term the bad design will cost you dearly when it comes to making changes and maintaining this application) allowed method is that you are going to have to have instances of both Dialogs available at the same time in your application. Now as you said they are dialogs so you can't display them both at the same time but you need to display them both. You only need to have them both in existence and then show and hide them as desired.
    This is going to take some code tweaking both inside these classes and with other classes as well. You have no choice in this matter. If you cannot change calling classes then you'll have to give up because it's hopeless.
    You must be able to access one instance from the other (and vice versa) perhaps through the parent class. I don't know what works best for you.

  • Calling business object's method

    Is it possible to call specific method of given business object in BOR using SAPRFC?
    Business Object = Function Module
    Method = BAPI

    Sugree,
    I think they can't be accessed with SAPRFC, but, since BAPIs are exposed as webservices automatically they can be accessed like any other webservice using a PHP webservice client. Latter btw is in my opinion much easier to set up too.

  • What is the best way to get another object's method to update my GUI?

    package stuff;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class Test extends JFrame{
      private static JButton ProcessButton = new JButton();
      private static JLabel jLabel2 = new JLabel();
      public static void main( String args []){
         Test f = new Test();
         f.setSize(500,500);
         Container c = f.getContentPane();
         ProcessButton.addActionListener( new ActionListener(){

    The method setUpConnectionToDB can take 1 - 10 mins to complete. By this time a user will prob have quit my app thinking

    What is the best way to get this method to update the GUI of the app which calls it?
    Something like  Connection connection = Tools.setUpConnectionToDB(url,userName,pwd, this);

    [\code]
    method defn:public static Connection setUpConnectionToDB( String url, String user, String pwd, JFrame f ){

  • How can I invoke web service in BPM Object's method?

    In ALBPM 5.7,AJaX can code by Call BPM Object's method.So I want to invoke web service via AJaX by BPM method.
    My sample code is:
    1: HelloWorldWebService ws = HelloWorldWebService();
    2: String param = "John";
    3: String retresult = "";
    4: ws.sayHello(name : parame; out result : retresult);
    and,I have import HelloWorldWebService by wsdl into catalog.
    In fact,at line 1 there is a error(fuego.connector.ConnectorRuntimeException: session is not started). Web service's instance is not created.
    Anybody can help me? thanks.

    Hi,
    I tried calling a simple webservice deployed in weblogic 8.1(see code) and it was working fine for me.
    Code for WS
    package service;
    import com.bea.control.JwsContext;
    import com.bea.jws.Protocol;
    import org.xmlsoap.schemas.soap.envelope.HeaderDocument;
    import com.bea.xml.XmlException;
    import org.w3c.dom.Element;
    import org.w3c.dom.Node;
    import org.w3c.dom.NodeList;
    public class CheckCredit implements com.bea.jws.WebService
    * @common:context
    JwsContext context;
    static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
    * @common:operation
    * @jws:protocol form-get="false" form-post="false"
    public boolean getCreditRating(String cardNumber)
    System.out.println("Card number is: " + cardNumber );
    boolean result = ((int)(Math.random() *100)) % 2 == 0?true:false;
    return result;
    Code from ALBPM Object method
    creditRatingResult as Bool
    getCreditRating CheckCreditService
    using cardNumber = "1234-5567-4667-4566"
    returning creditRatingResult = creditRatingResult
    logMessage "Result is: " + creditRatingResult
    What I suggest for you problem is:
    1. Check the server on which you have deployed the WS. Does it require any sort of authentication prior to connecting to the WS
    2. It seems you are using Java style in ALBPM. Try switching to PBL. I don't know how it makes a difference, but sometimes it helps

  • Calling a method of another Object

    I have 3 panels, panelMain, panelA and panelB
    panelMain is the "main" panel which holds panelA and panelB.
    When a button is clicked in panelB, I wish to call up the a method in panelA, but I get the error
    "non-static method cannot be referenced froma static context"
    What might be the problem?

    It's normal, to call a method of an instance, you must have a handler on the instance. In your case, panelB must have a handler ( a kind of reference if you want) on panelA (i.e. panelB must know the instance of panelA to call a method of panelA).
    For example :
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    class PanelB extends JPanel {
         public PanelA panelA; // to keep the instance of panelA needed to call the methods of panelA
         JLabel messageLabel;
         public PanelB() {
              super();// optional
              JLabel label = new JLabel("This is the panelB");
              add(label);
              JButton button = new JButton("Call panelA method");
              button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                        panelA.showMessage(); // call a method of panelA
              add(button);
              messageLabel = new JLabel("");
              add(messageLabel);
         public void setPanelA(PanelA p) { // initialize panelA with the required instance
              panelA = p;
         public void showMessage() {
              messageLabel.setText("Message from panelA");
    class PanelA extends JPanel {
         public PanelB panelB; // to keep the instance of panelB needed to call the methods of panelB
         JLabel messageLabel;
         public PanelA() {
              super();// optional
              JLabel label = new JLabel("This is the panelA");
              add(label);
              JButton button = new JButton("Call panelB method");
              button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                        panelB.showMessage(); // call a method of panelB
              add(button);
              messageLabel = new JLabel("");
              add(messageLabel);
         public void setPanelB(PanelB p) { // initialize panelA with the required instance
              panelB = p;
         public void showMessage() {
              messageLabel.setText("Message from panelB");
    public class MainPanel extends JPanel {
         public MainPanel() {
              super(); // optional
              setLayout(new GridLayout(1,2,0,0));
              PanelA pa = new PanelA();
              add(pa);
              PanelB pb = new PanelB();
              add(pb);
              pa.setPanelB(pb);
              pb.setPanelA(pa);
         public static void main(String[] arg) {
              JFrame f = new JFrame("My Frame");
              f.getContentPane().add(new MainPanel());
              f.setBounds(100,100,300,300);
              f.setVisible(true);
    }I hope this helps,

  • Object synchronization method was called from an unsynchronized block of co

    I have installed DotNETWebControlConsumer_3.0_sp1
    in my machine I am very much new to Plumtree
    I am building the application in vs 2005 or .Net 2.0 environment and plumtree 6.0
    here is my web.config file code
    <httpModules>
    <add type="Com.Plumtree.Remote.Loader.TransformerProxy, Plumtree.WCLoader, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d0e882dd51ca12c5" name="PTWCFilterHttpModule"/>
    </httpModules>
    and I get the error Object synchronization method was called from an unsynchronized block of code
    I just removed the html format for posting purpose i mean all the less than and greater than sign
    please I need it so badly

    Regarding your first issue (because it looks as if you removed the <httpModules> node from your web.config to move on from that issue), I changed 'Aqualogic.WCLoader' to 'Plumtree.WCLoader' in <httpModules ../>, added a reference to Plumtree.WCLoader in my project , then added another <add assembly="Plumtree.WCLoaderyadayada...> accordingly to the <assemblies> node in the web.config and then it worked. Well, almost, now I'm seeing a new error:
    [NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
    Com.Plumtree.Remote.Transformer.PTTransformer.HandleRequest(HttpContext ctx) in e:\buildroot\Release\wcfilter\3.0.x\filter\src\Com\Plumtree\Remote\Transformer\PTTransformer.cs:60
    Com.Plumtree.Remote.Transformer.PTTransformer.BeginRequestHandler(Object sender, EventArgs e) in e:\buildroot\Release\wcfilter\3.0.x\filter\src\Com\Plumtree\Remote\Transformer\PTTransformer.cs:54
    System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +92
    System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +64
    Mine is a .net 2.0 portlet that will work if I don't try to use the WCC 3.0SP1 (by pulling the <httpModules> node. But then I'm guaranteed no inline refresh. I have no fix yet, but when I do, I'll post it. I've contacted Plumtree Support in the meantime because others must be having the same problem.
    p.s. Also using edk 5.3 signed, though I'm going to upgrade to 5.4 and see if that does anything.

  • Servlet Calls another Servlet, Returns an Object

    Is it possible to call another servlet (which is loaded through
              Load-on-startup) from another servlet. The return should be an Object.
              I know I am kind of asking for a procedural way of programming.
              Example : Servlet "IamReady" is loaded and gets a request with binary
              data. It replies with a Binary Object.
              Servlet "serviceCall" calls IamReady to get the resoponse.
              I know that there are forward (using requestDispatcher) and "include"
              directives to have another servlet service calling servlet.
              Also, if I define a method in the (generic servlet) does each call to
              methos is executed in different thread (like doPost and doGet).
              Thanks.

              Are you suggesting I should just have a class. Reason I have it as
              servlet, b'caz I do a load-on-startup and do initialiazation etc. in
              the init method. May be if you suggest how I can do it otherwise, I
              would like to implement it that way.
              Thanks again.

  • How to call another form ,if option is entered in a text item object ???

    hi ,
    I am created an application ,where in i press a button which call another form having a menu .
    I select any one of the option from the menu ....i enter a number in the text item object of this form ....depending upon what option i have typed .....i would like to call another form ...
    My questions are
    1) Which trigger of this text item should be enabled,and what code to i write in this trigger ?
    2) Since this form is not having any database insert,delete ,update or query (select)
    it should directly go to the new form,whose option i provide in the text item .
    Sunny

    hey bro, i am assuming that ur text item contains the form name, any relevant trigger can be used for user action, like key-enter, post-change or key-next-item.
    to run a form u can use functions call_form or open_form with proper paramters.
    if u want to forward the entered text in the item, use global variable for the session.
    it doesnt matter if the form contains database items or blocks, all u have to do is run the form.
    e.g,
    declare
    VAR VARCHAR2-------;
    begin
    /* u can use the variable to concatinate or modify too, also can use global variable
    var:=:urblock.uritem;
    /* use ur own relevant parameters */
    open_form(VAR,ACTIVATE,NO_SESSION);
    exception
    when---------
    end;

  • How to call BOR object- method in custom program

    hi all,
    I have the following details:
    BOR object : INSTLN
    Method: createdirect
    I need to call the above method in my custom program.
    I need to call it entirely. Means if it contains fn modules I dont want to call those fn modules seperately.

    Hi Sammy,
    Phil Soady from SAP Australia provided me with this little gem a few years back. The actual documentation for this can be found somewhere in the workflow programming area, but I just looked and couldn't find it for you. Anyway, this is a sample program I built to show how to do this. In this example I call the Display method of the Sales Document BO.
    INCLUDE <cntn02>.
    INCLUDE <cntn03>.
    FUNCTION zcallbomethod.
    *"*"Local interface:
    * Data declaration
      DATA: vbak_ref TYPE swc_object.
    * Declare and initialise container
      swc_container container.
      swc_create_container container.
    * Create object reference to sales document
      swc_create_object vbak_ref 'VBAK' '0000000009'. "Sales Document Number
    * Call Display
      swc_call_method vbak_ref 'Display' container.
    * Error handling
      IF sy-subrc NE 0.
      ENDIF.
    ENDFUNCTION.

  • How to call Apps Module Custom Method from Entity Object / View Object ?

    Hi All,
    I create a custom method in AppsModuleImpl.java. How can I call that custom method from a setter method on Entity Object / View Object ?
    (I have tried to use Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(amDef,config); but it is not the correct way, is it? )
    Below is my code :
    The setter on MyEntityImpl.java :
    public void setKodeprd(String value) {
    setAttributeInternal(KODEPRD, value);
    if (getProduct() != null) {
    // CALL the getSalesPrice custom method from here, HOW ??
    The Application Module custom method :
    public Number getSalesPrice(String priceCode, String kodePrd) {
    Number price = new Number(0);
    String [] theKey = {priceCode, kodePrd};
    Key priceKey = new Key(theKey) ;
    ViewObject SalesPrice = getSalespricedView1();
    Row[] salesPriceRow = SalesPrice.findByKey(priceKey, 1);
    price = ((SalespricedViewRowImpl)salesPriceRow[0]).getPrice();
    SalesPrice.remove();
    return price;
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto

    inside the EntityObjectImpl :
    YourAppModuleImpl am = (YourAppModuleImpl)getDBTransaction().getRootApplicationModule().findApplicationModule("YourAppModuleorServiceName");

  • How to call another view controller's method from a view controller?

    Hi,
    Iam new to webdynpro . so pls clarify my doubt.
    How to call another view controller's method from a view controller in the same Web Dynpro Component?
    Thanks,
    Krishna

    Hi,
         The methods in a view are only accessible inside same view. you cannot call it outside the view or
         in any other view although its in same component.
         If you want to have a method in both views, then create the method in component controller and
         from there you can access the method any where in whole component.
