Calling external executables from .jsx

Hi
I'm looking to do some Perforce (revision control) work from inside a Photoshop .jsx. There is a Perforce plugin for Photoshop but it does not seem to interface with the Photoshop CS2 Automation system in any way. My question is, does the Photoshop JS interface provide me some way to call other executables?
Thanks

There is no binary interface for this.
However, the File.execute api will let you execute whatever app you want. If you
need to pass parameter or get results back, it gets a little complicated but it
is doable. Check over at the scripting forum.

  • Calling external programs from within a Tomcat application

    I've got a fairly complex existing Tomcat application (which is packaged and built as a .war file) which I'm trying to edit so that it calls a Perl script part way through the processing, which will generate an XML file used later on. I think I've worked out how to call external scripts from within Java, but at the moment when I try and access the application via Tomcat the application either hangs or bails out (I don't know which, as the log files unhelpfully don't give any error messages).
    The code which is causing the problem looks like this:
    System.err.println("Calling runtime...");
    Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
    System.err.println("Executing process...");
    Process process = runtime.exec("/path/to/ysearch.pl 'News' '\"search query\"' 'file");
    System.err.println("Waiting for process...");
    int exitVal = process.waitFor();
    System.out.println("Exited with error code: " + exitVal);The code gets as far as "Executing process..", beyond that there is nothing in the log file so I presume the runtime.exec() call is where the problem is. I'm not interested in reading the output from the script (there shouldn't be any), so that's not an issue, and the permissions on it allow anyone to read or execute ysearch.pl so I don't think there's a problem in that area.
    Does anyone have any suggestions which I could try to get this to work? I've only been using Tomcat for a week (I'm picking up on someone else's code) so I might have made a beginner's mistake. I'm using Tomcat 5 on Fedora Core 7, and Java 1.5.0_01 (I can't easily change any of those).

    I'm not sure, but I thing that overhead caused by calling du cannot be big enough to matter even on older machines.
    But, when calling du from Perl script you are also invoking shell, and this can be a little bit more 'heavy'.

  • Calling external programs from Java?

    Hi All,
    Is there a way of calling external applications from Java without using Runtime.exec(). That method seems quite messy when you are dealing with streaming data from an input file to an output file. Basically what I'm asking is there a way to run a command the same way you would type it in a command shell?
    Thanks

    Simple enough.
    >
    Works fine from a shell command line. From what I understand, this won't work using Runtime.exec() because that method will just start the application. Works fine from Runtime.exec(). Since you are'>' to write stdout to a file you need to us a shell to execute the command.
    String[] command = {"sh", "-c","programname inputfile > outputfile"};
    Process process = runtime.exec(command);
    You need to read, digest and implement the recommendations given in http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html .
    File input and output from the application has to be taken care of programatically (java.io stuff). Fine if you've only one input and output. But if you have several input files and hundreds of output files, where does this leave you. It would be much easier if you could pass a string command to the shell directly as if you typed it in the command line yoursel!

    Hi Subrato,
    AFAIK you can call C / C++ methods in Java using Java Native  Interface (JNI).
    Please refer the following links for how to do the same.

  • How To : Call External Webservice from BPEL and pass SOAP Message to the WS

    Hello All-
    Greetings to all BPEL gurus. I am currently facing difficulties in calling an External Webservice from my BPEL Process and passing SOAP Message to it. The details are below:
    <strong>1. The BPEL process, using database polling feature of DB Adapter, will get the records from the database.</strong>
    <strong>2. Transform the message</strong>
    <strong>3. Call the External Webservice and pass the transformed message as the input to it. However the Webservice expects the BPEL process to send SOAP headers in the input message.</strong>
    I am struggling on how to put the transformed message within a SOAP envelope in the BPEL process.
    If anyone had similar requirements and have successfully been able to send SOAP messages from BPEL process to an external webservice, kindly let me know.
    Also if there is some kind of documentation or any link in the forum that I can refer, please let me know that as well.
    I am new to Webservice integration using BPEL and would really appreciate your help.
    Thanks In Advance

    Hi Dharmendra,
    I am trying to send a SOAP message from my BPEL process to a web service. I have a complete SOAP message in a complex variable defined in the wsdl for the partnerlink (web service). My problem is that when I invoke the partnerlink it fails even though the content shown in the BPEL console looks valid.
    I have set up obtunnel to see what I am actually sending out from BPEL. You mention that BPEL creates the SOAP envelope automatically.
    I think that my problem is a result of this automatic SOAP envelope that BPEL is creating. Do you know if there is a way to turn it off?
    This is what I see in the TCP monitor, please note the double SOAP env:Body:

    I have opened a new thread for this question so as to not confuse the issue more than necessary.
    How many SOAP envelopes do you really need?

  • Calling LrTasks.execute from within a plug in manager control

    I'm working on a Lightroom post-processing-filter plug in which has most of the functionality inside an executable that resides inside the plug in folder.
    The executable is responsible for doing the actual photo processing but is also responsible for obtaining and verifying that there is a valid license. This means that I need to let the user eneter an activation code, pass that to the executable which will talk to our server and get a license.
    I would like to handle that activation part from the plug-in manager dialog so I've added a top section (see following code) with a text field and a button and I've added code to call the executable when the button is pressed, but the executalbe is never called.
    Is what I'm trying to do impossible? Any workarounds?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Calling DOS executable from TestStand

    I have read the forum under TestStand.  I have version 3.0-- I am unable to get a DOS executable tool to work when I call it.  I can create a seperate seq file and call Notepad fine but when in that seperate and unique seq file I put the call to my tool and try and pipe (>) the results to a screen it doesn't work-I've tried what seems like every option for threading etc .  So I even put my DOS program under a directory and naming structure that conforms to the old 8.3 DOS standard.  I try to pipe(>) information to a text file and it doesn't work.  It also doesn't wait the 30 seconds that I tell it to either despite trying every option etc.  I've done everything I've seen in the help but have had no luck.  Do I need to create a VB or C++ DLL wrapper, if I do then what challenges do I face?  I am close to telling my manager that TestStand is not a tool that we can use.
    Thanks
    JL

    I got it working.  Thanks for you input.  I believe I simply was missing a command on the command line (it takes about 5 parameters).  It was falling through and I wasn't able to catch what was going on.  I thought it was a thread issue within teststand that I needed to set.  I also didn't realize the default location that it executes from any my paths were explicit.  I also wasn't clear on some other details but have now figured them out pretty much.
    Thanks again
    Jim

    Are you using the call executable step type? If so please provide more informations about how you have it configured, if not please explain what you are doing. By DOS executeable do you mean an old 8-bit DOS program (what version of windows are you running this on?)? Or do you mean a windows console application? Are you getting any error messages? How are you verifying that your executeable isn't being called? Or is the problem just with the IO redirection?

    I have configured RFC connections in the administrative tools. Still it is not working.
    What should be the reason behind this?

    Hi Guys,
    i have the same issue when calling a external service ...
    I'm calling a web service located on my server, and i get the same error ...
    I have a error while the method "loadbycustomkeys" is trying to get data from the web service.
    in the error trace i find the same error id : nullSourceOrTargetForMapping which occurs in the readMappingRule method.
    have you found a solution for your issue please ? let me know !

  • Calling external scrips from Java?

    Hi,
    I am writing a Java application to call an external script, to start with a unix shell script. I need the application to not only call this script but also for the script to return some sort of value or variable to the Java application.
    Is it possible for Java to get return variables from external scripts?
    Thank you,
    Paul

    The following code snippet executes a given command and returns an array containing its return code and its standard error output. Hope this helps.
            private Object [] performKshCommand(String command) {
            int     iRet=-1;
            String  sRet=null;
                    if (DEBUG1) System.out.println("performKshCommand\n" + command);
                    try     {
                            Runtime         rt=Runtime.getRuntime();
                            Process         proc=rt.exec(command);
                            InputStream is=proc.getInputStream();
                            LineNumberReader lnr=new LineNumberReader(new InputStreamReader (is));
                            sRet=lnr.readLine();
                            String line;
                            while((line=lnr.readLine()) != null) {
                                    if (DEBUG1) System.out.println(line);
                                    InputStream is2=proc.getErrorStream();
                                    LineNumberReader lnr2=new LineNumberReader(new InputStreamReader (is2));
                                    while((line=lnr2.readLine()) != null) {
                                            System.err.println(line);
                            iRet=proc.waitFor();
                    catch (Exception e) {
                            if (DEBUG) e.printStackTrace();
                            if (!DEBUG) e.printStackTrace();
                    return new Object [] { new Integer(iRet), sRet} ;

  • Calling external program from PL/SQL

    Does anyone know whether it's possible to call an external program living outside of Oracle from PL/SQl eg. a from a stored procedure?
    Specifically i want to call back into my java appserver (ejb server) when a trigger/stored proc. is executed.
    The call does not have to be synchronous, some sort of queue will do - eg JMS??
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi
    Which version of oracle you are using.
    If it 8i, you can use external procedures/libraries. REfer to ORacle PLSQL documentation.
    If you are using Oracle 7+ you can use dbms pipes to post your command string and a cron job to read the pipe and execute the string.
    An alternate ugly way is to write to a file and some process reading the file at a regular interval.
