JAVA Applets from Adobe Flash/MS Silverlight?
SAP has recently announced that it will no longer support
invocation of JAVA applets directly from its "WebDynproABAP" or
"WebDynproJava" applications. (Until recently, SAP supported an
"iframe" UI element that could be used to run JAVA applets from
within WebDynpro applications - soon this will be only doable in
frames within SAP's portal via "client-side eventing".)
However, SAP will be supporting invocation of Adobe Flash and
MS Silverlight from within its WebDynpro Applications.
So here's my question.
From an SAP WebDynpro application, I want to pass parameters
to the JAVA applet "JMol" and have it run in a separate frame.
Since I will no longer be able to call this applet directly from
the SAP WebDynpro application, I'm wondering if I could pass
parameters to Adobe Flash or MS Silverlight and have Flash or
Silverlight invoke the applet for me with the correct parameters.
(I would still only want two frames - the one that the SAP app is
running in and the one that the JAVA applet winds up running in.)

Thanks for any time anyone can afford to spend considering
this question, and for any answer(s) anyone can provide.

Print a report from Application Express direct to a CUPS Printer
Hi all, I'm new to this technology, is it possible to print a report from Application Express directly to a CUPS Printer? Can someone tell me in laymans terms how to do it? I find the terminology and documentation less than helpful.
Jeremy,
BI Publisher handles submitting reports directly to a CUPS printer. However, the APEX integration doesn't currently integrate with that portion of BI Publisher.
Here's an options:
Use the Java API of BI Publisher to build a custom Java program that would do this for you. Delivering to CUPS is part of the Java API.

Referencing a "locally installed" Java applet from a server-based HTML page
How does one reference a "locally installed" Java applet from a server-based HTML page (i.e. via the applet, object, or embed tags)? I have seen references in documentation that this is possible, but I have not seen any examples. I have tried a few things, but nothing seems to be working.
Some background...
I'm working on a web site that aggregates Internet video. For many users, I would like the site to work "without" requiring Java to be installed (or any prompts, etc.). This version of the site allows users to stream videos directly over the Internet and does not require any sort of access to the local system.
However, in addition, I have a download manager that can be installed on the local system. Currently, it's a Windows-based "service" that is always running in the background, downloading files, etc. (with plans to later support other OSes).
My dilemma is trying to communicate between my web site running in the local browser (executing JavaScript code) and the download manager. I call this component the "gateway". I need the gateway to be able to do the following:
1) Pass user credentials from the web browser UI to the download manager (so it can communicate with my servers).
2) Check the status of downloaded videos
3) Launch a local media player (such as Windows Media, QuickTime, etc.) (or perhaps tell the download manager to launch the media player).
Under Windows XP, I have an ActiveX control that can do these things. It communicates with the download manager via reading/writing to a shared XML configuration file.
Unfortunately, under Vista and IE7 Protected Mode, ActiveX controls have become very restricted and my gateway no longer works. As such, I am looking at using Java for the gateway (also giving me the additional benefits of supporting additional browsers and OSes).
From my understanding, I believe I can created a "face-less" Java applet, whose methods can be called from JavaScript. Ideally, I'm thinking I could install the applet onto the local system at the same time the download manager is installed. This would give the applet the security permissions it needs to communicate with the download manager.
Thanks for any help and suggestions!Hi,
Put the .jar file and the .class file in the path mentioned in one of the aliases in the plsql.conf file like /images or create
a seperate directory and create an alias like /applets "path" in the plsql.conf file.
<html>
<body>
<applet code=com.chartapplet.chart.BarChartApplet
codebase=/applets/
archive=/applets/chart.jar width=300 height=200>
<param name=background value="white">
</body>
</html>
Hope this helps.

Running a java applet from flash
Hi,
How do you run a java applet from within a Flash movie?
Is it necessary for the user to download a java interpreter, or is there an interpreter somehow built into their browser that can run applets?I was wondering , I don't know too much about Flash
I remember seeing some classes in amongst the Flash
files when it installed , but couldn't tell you whart they
do (at the moment , but you've got me interested)
maybe you should rethink your strategy for building your page (and your movie) maybe build the movie around
your applet , or preload it then replace a an area of your movie area with your applet (the way you handle rollovers).
the advantage is you can make calls to applet methods
from Flash as it supports Javascript.
jus remember to set the scriptable <PARAM> to true
Users shouldn't have to download the plug-in or JRE
you should specify it in the OBJECT or EMBED tag so
if they don't have it , the browser will tell them.
of course this is going to change as Microsoft are stopping support for JAVA , users will then have to download the plug-in from Sun in order to view or use JAVA on the internet. -
How to call java program from ABAP
Hi Experts,

Thanks.This depends on the version of your Netweaver Java AS. If you are running 7.0, you will have to use the Jco framework. The Jco framework is deprecated since 7.1 though. If you want to build a RFC server in 7.1 or higher, it is adviced that you set it up through JRA.

Hi,
I need help with this, I want to invoke an applet from a JSP page. The applet code
is compiled and resides in a separate jar file. The question is, how do I deploy
this applet in weblogic 6.1 and then have a JSP call this applet.
--Krish.
To call an applet from a jsp use the <jsp:plugin> tag
<jsp:plugin
type="applet"
code="classFileName"
codebase="classFileDirectoryName"
[ align="bottom|top|middle|left|right" ]
[ height="{displayPixels | <%= expression %>}"]
[ width="{displayPixels | <%= expression %>}"]
[ hspace="leftRightPixels" ]
[ vspace="topBottomPixels" ]
</jsp:plugin>

Calling Java API from ABAP using JCo
I need to call Java API from ABAP & BSP also. For this I have got useful information related to JCo from following blog:
/people/gregor.wolf3/blog/2004/08/26/setup-and-test-sap-java-connector-outbound-connection
But, I am facing one problem. On executing Java program myExample5.java (recommended by Gregor Wolf) from command line I get following error message:
Server JCOSERVER01 changed state from [ STOPPED ] to [ STARTED ]
Exception in server JCOSERVER01:

This is caused by either a) erroneous server settings, b) the backend system has
been shutdown, c) network problems. Will try next startup in 1 seconds.

Can anyone please help me out. Do I need to do any setting?

Thanks & Regards,
Nilesh KumarHi Nilesh,
From the error i think that the error is with the hostname.
Please enter the the Application Server IP/Hostname.
If you are loggin to SAP System "XX1" from SAP GUI. Then click the change Item tab and see Application server name/IP let say "XX2" for hostname or "xx.xx.xx.xx" for IP.
Replace <i>srv[0] = new Server("gateway","sapgw00","JCOSERVER01",repository);</i>
with <i>srv[0] = new Server("XX2","sapgw00","JCOSERVER01",repository);</i>
If App Server is IP then replace with
<i>srv[0] = new Server("xx.xx.xx.xx","sapgw00","JCOSERVER01",repository);</i>
Let me know if it is throwing any error.
Thanks,

How to call Java API from BSP?
I have a requirement to call Java API from BSP application.
I have checked the forum and found that it is possible by using some ABAP codes.
However there is no pointer on how this is done.
Can someone explain the details on how to call Java API from BSP is done?
I found class CL_EJB_JAVA_OBJECT_METHODS to call a method in EJB but can't find function or SAP class to call Java API.
Actually is there any BSP extention which can used to call Java API?
Thanks,
Hendricheck out these weblogs, it should give you an idea how to go about it.

How to call a Applet from a servlet and vice versa...?
Hi all
Can anyone help me how to call a applet from a servlet and vice versa. When the applet is called it should contact the database (oracle8i) and get the data. When i submit the applet form the data in the applet should be saved in the database.
Thanks in advance
KamalakannanSweep is correct about requestDispatcher being another approach for inter-servlet delegation; the only issue that i recall with this approach is that it defaults the method of the destination servlet to the one it was called from...for example, calling servlet2 from within servlet1.post() resulted in the dispatcher attempting to utilize servlet2.post() - i believe that i searched for a parameterize solution to no avail :( (ended up handling the request by placing a "fake" doPost() in servlet2 that simply called servlet2.doGet())
however, if your application is functioning correctly on your pc/webserver then the problem may be external to servlet communication (e.g. client webserver's ports not configured or blocked, missing runtime classes, etc.)
my suggestion would be to set aside the programmatic concerns for the moment - what is the response if you open a browser on a client's machine and access the URL in question (i.e. http://clientserver:port/stefanoServlet)? If it will not respond to access in this manner then it certainly won't when your application calls for it.
It's possible that there is a coding error but, given the info supplied, i'd start examining the environment, first. Let us know if you have any luck with the test i recommended or not (please provide abundant detail). Or, if you've found the solution then you may want to post back with a quick blub so the next person knows how to escape the trap.
