Camera Raw 6.1 Crop Menu?

I have the book Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS5 which goes through the Camera Raw 6.1 features
On the section on the crop tool they show a "Crop menu"
I don't see that menu, is the book incorrect or am I missing something?

Hello Jeff,
Did not realize it was you until I looked at the cover of the book.
First of all, great book.  I am about 40% through the book reading every page.
Second, yes, what you say is correct.  Holding down the mouse does bring up the menu but that is not intutive from a PC perspective.
I asked a few other people to read page 145 and 146 of your book and to bring up the menu, nobody got it until I showed them what you stated (hold down the mouse button).
Perhaps I am just stupid and maybe these are nits, but,
A) I would have mentioned this fact in the book
B) There is no Option key on the PC, its Shift and Alt (I have seen other books where they mention this when important)
Now I know.  BTW, the little triangle is really little at high res and does not really show up when the button is in focus but that is not your issue, maybe adobe will make the buttons larger in the future or scale to the res of the screen.
To your credit, pages 173-176 do have the Windows PC keystroked for RAW which I have photo copied and taped to my wall
Thank you for the reply

  • Adobe Camera Raw - Cancel a crop or straighten - ESC not working

    Hey Guys,
    I am trying to learn photoshop for the first time.  I currently have Photoshop CS5.1, but am thinking about upgrading to CC in the near future.  I have been following along with tutorials on Lynda.com in order to learn all of the functionality of the program.
    I am currently in the section learning about Adobe Camera RAW and how to utilize it.  The instructor was talking about using the straighten tool or crop tool and how it is not destructive to the image at all.  He says to click on either tool and then hit the ESC key to revert the changes that you made.  However, when I do this, it exits me out of Adobe Camera RAW all together.  I thought initially that it might be because I was in full screen mode, but i hit the F key and tried it again with the same outcome.
    What am I doing wrong?  How do I fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    If you open an image in camera raw, draw out the crop tool and then press the Esc key, what happens?
    I just messed with it further tonight.  It looks like it is working correctly with the 'Crop' tool.  However, it is not working correct with the Straighten tool.  I use the straighten tool, click enter to straighten the image.  If the image does not look correct to me, I click on the straighten tool again and hit the ESC key to revert it back to the original.  As soon as I hit the ESC key (while clicked on the straighten tool) it closes out of Adobe Camera RAW and goes back to Adobe Bridge.
    Which operating system are you using?
    I am using OS X 10.10.1 (Yosemite)
    Which version of camera raw are you using?
    I am on Adobe Camera RAW Ver. 6.7
    Both Photoshop and Bridge are CS5.1
    You can see the version listed at the top of the camera raw dialog when not in full screen mode.

  • Camera RAW 4.2 crop issue

    Hi everyone !
    I am using CS3 with the latest Camera RAW.
    After applying a crop to a RAW file, there is no "OK" or "APPLY" button in order to change various setting only on the cropped/final image.
    Does anyone know a way to alter settings this way ?(i.e. I'd like to apply a vignette effect on the cropped file)
    Thank you.

    The only way would be to save the image out as a TIFF file and process the resulting TIFF image back through Camera Raw again.

  • Camera raw default does not remove crop

    In bridge, when I go to edit>develop settings>camera raw defaults, the crop is not removed to get me back to default. How do we rectify this? That makes me open any cropped raw in raw dialogue and manually remove the crop. No good.
    bridge forum sent me here to query.

  • Why is Camera Raw cropping my pictures?

    I've been struggling with this issue for a few months now and can't find an answer anywhere on the web.
    I have a Sony SLT-A33L camera. When I copy the RAW images my laptop (Macbook) the image dimension is 4592 × 3056 (3x2). However, when I open the  image in Adobe Camera Raw it gets cropped to 4592 × 2576  (16x9). The Sony software that came with the camera allows me to save preview images as 3x2 or 16x9 so I know there's nothing wrong with the files. Is there a way to show and save a preview image using the native  dimension in Camera Raw? BTW, I am using the latest Photoshop CS5 version 12.0.4 & Camera Raw version 6.4.1.145.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Nevermind, I finally found what was the issue and how to fix it, more details in this article:

  • Lagging Crop in Camera RAW

    When cropping in Camera RAW, dragging the crop box is very slow and laggy, but it wasn't always this way. It used to be fast and responsive. I've tried clearing PS preferences, clearing Camera RAW cache, increasing Camera RAW cache, and none of this fixes the problem.

  • Opening Camera Raw file in CS3 Bridge

    I have CS3 Bridge and CS3 Dreamweaver instaled as well as Photoshop CS2.
    I want to open Camera Raw files in CS3 Bridge. The Bridge Help file says:
    "Select 'Edit Camera Raw Settings' in Bridge General Preferences to open Camera Raw dialog box in Bridge" (as opposed to opening in Photoshop.)
    But my Bridge General Preferences has no such checkbox option. When I open a CR file in CS3 Bridge, the file opens in Photoshop CS2.
    How do I get the file to open in CS3 Bridge.
    Thanks, CMA

    I had a problem with this previously and came up with the following:
    If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF and hold down the shift key, Camera Raw will not be scheduled
    If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image, the image will always schedule Camera Raw if the Bridge menu item Edit/Preference/Thumbnails has Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF checked (Bridge JPEG and TIFF Checked).
    If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image and Bridge JPEG and TIFF is unchecked and the JPEG or TIFF image has previously been processed by Camera Raw, Camera Raw will be scheduled if Camera Raw Preferences dialog has Always open JPEG files with settings using Camera Raw or Always open TIFF files with settings using Camera Raw checked.
    If I am in Bridge and double click a TIFF image and the TIFF file has layers, the TIFF file will not schedule Camera Raw.
    In Photoshop Preferences (Edit/Preference/File Handling) there is a check box titled Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files. I checked the check box and opened a JPEG image in Photoshop Camera Raw was scheduled. I clicked Open Image in ACR and then saved the image in Photoshop (JPEG saved in Photoshop after passing thru ACR). I then Unchecked the check box and opened the JPEG file Camera Raw was not scheduled.
    The only action I see for the Photoshop File Handling check box is to either schedule or not to schedule JPEG images. I do not see any related action for TIFF files in Photoshop. My expectation is that TIFF files will open in Photoshop not ACR.

  • Wanted: Bridge or Photoshop script for taking a camera raw "snapshot"

    Hello,
    i am looking for a way to create a "snapshot" in the xmp data of raw image files, like you do in camera raw's last tab "snapshots".
    I can do copy&paste programming.
    Here is a script that changes a certain value on a selection of image files. I  can take this as a starting point to work  in the xmp data in a selection of files. But what would a function to create a snapshot be?
    #target bridge    if( BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge" ) {
    setExposure = MenuElement.create("command", "Set Average Exposures", "at the end of Tools","exp");
    setExposure.onSelect = function () {
    var d=app.document;
    d.deselectAll();
    var sels = d.getSelection("cr2,crw,nef,mos,orf");
    var noOfFiles =sels.length;
    var diff = (3.25 / (noOfFiles-1));
    var exp = 1.25;
    var exp2=exp;
    for(var a = 0;a<noOfFiles;a++){
        exp2 = exp - (diff*(a)).toFixed(3);
        var file = new File(sels[a].spec.toString().replace(/\....$/,'.xmp'));
        setExposure( file, exp2 )
    app.document.chooseMenuItem('PurgeCache');
    function setExposure( file, expose ){
         file.open('r');
         file.encoding = "UTF8";
         file.lineFeed = "unix";
         file.open("r", "TEXT", "????");
         var xmpStr = file.read();
         file.close();
         if (ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript == undefined) ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript = new ExternalObject("lib:AdobeXMPScript");
         var xmp = new XMPMeta( xmpStr );
         xmp.setProperty( XMPConst.NS_CAMERA_RAW, "Exposure", Number(expose) );
         file.open('w');
         file.encoding = "UTF8";
         file.lineFeed = "unix";
         file.write( xmp.serialize() );
         file.close();
    regards,
    Stephan Möbius

    Hi Stephan,
    Nice to hear from you.
    I would first like to tell my understanding your problem clearly.
    What I understood is that you want create a “snapshot” (thumbnail) of a camera raw file and put it inside the XMP Packet.
    You have got a script which can update XMP of file, on selecting a menu item.
    You want to know how to create a “snapshot” of a raw file so that you can insert it in XMP using the script.
    Workflow will be, you will open a camera raw file, select some menu item, and on doing that the snapshot will be updated in the XMP.
    Is this understanding correct?
    If not please clarify the workflow and the problem you are facing.
    Thanks,
    Amit

  • How to export Camera Raw metadata?

    I cannot figure out how to export metadata from Camera Raw to xmp files. I need to move my pictures to another computer but files were edited with metadata saved in Camera Raw database.
    I run Photoshop CS6 with Camera Raw 8.6 in Windows 8.1.
    Appreciate your help.

    I don't see option Export Data to XMP in the Edit/Camera Raw Preferences in Bridge. I have Camera Raw 8.6.0.254.
    It's because the Export Settings to XMP command isn't in Camera Raw Preferences. Export Settings to XMP is in Camera Raw in the unlabeled menu that the Adobe help file calls the "Camera Raw settings menu." You can export the data for multiple images at once if you select multiple images before opening Camera Raw, click the Select All button in Camera Raw, and then choose Export Settings to XMP.

  • Cannot open some jpgs in Camera Raw from Bridge

    A couple of days ago, I rated select images from a set as 5 stars, and now I cannot open these in Camera Raw from Bridge. I get no error messages or anything, there is just simply no option to Open in Camera Raw from the File menu, or the right-click menu. The images I did not rate still open in Camera Raw, and not all of the starred ones have this problem - just 20 or so consecutive images. This makes no sense to me, as all the images as far as I can tell should operate the same way. They are all jpgs. I can find workarounds to this like working in Photoshop (all the images still open in Photoshop) or possibly just reloading the photos from the memory card, but I'd like to know why this would even be a problem to avoid it in the future. I'm using CC on Win 8.

    I should add that JPGs edited with ACR usually need to be writable for ACR to be able to store the adjustment-settings inside themselves.  RAW files typically use an XMP sidecar to store settings, but JPGs typically don't.
    If the files weren't read/write then ACR would have no way to store the adjustments in them and so is smart enough to not make them available for editing.
    The other hint is that if you copy the files to your desktop--where the permissions are likely to be more friendly, they work.
    To check the permissions, right-click on one of the files in Explorer, select Properties from the context menu and look at the Security tab.  Look at the various user-groups, like Users, Authenticated Users, Administrators, etc, and see what access each has to one oft he problem files, and then to one of the files that works ok.
    You might also check the Effective Rights of a particular user to a particular file by clicking on the Advanced button in the Security tab.  Here is an example where I show only Read + Read & Execute access to an NEF for general users, but when I check my own logged in User (steve) I have Full Control which includes all the other access privileges, and this is either because I'm in the Administrators group or I am the owner, I'm not sure.  It is possible that Bridge or Photoshop is running in a user context other than your logged in user, or it's possible that another user accessed the files and changed the permissions to them.

  • Why can't I save camera raw defaults?

    I am currently unable to reset my camera raw defaults in CS5 (Camera raw 6.5).  When I click on "Save Camera Raw Defaults", the changes do not show up when I open up a new image using Adobe Bridge. I seem to be stuck with the changes I made some time ago. What could be happening?

    Camera Raw uses the same settings you used last time to open a file.  That's just the way it works.  The defaults you set will be used on any image you haven't opened before.
    In order to revert an image that's been opened before to the new defaults, you need to do one of the following:
    1.  Choose Camera Raw Defaults from the menu:
    2.  Depending on how you have configured Camera Raw to remember your past settings, either delete the sidecar XMP files or go into Edit - Preferences - Camera Raw... and purge your Camera Raw cache if you'd like to throw away all previous settings and have future opens use your new defaults.

  • Camera Raw 5.4

    I have just downloaded camera raw 5.4. It's been put into the correct folder as recommended but it is not showing in CS4 camera raw.
    Camera raw is still showing the 4.4 version.Can anyone tell me how I get the 5.4 version from it's folder to show in CS4 camera raw.
    Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    John

    Firstly what does the camera raw item in the menu location 'help/about plugin' within Photoshop actually say? This is the place to check the version of ACR. If you are looking in the camera calibration section of ACR you may well see ACR 4.4. This is to do with the version that is relevant to your camera make/model and does not update it's reference when a new version of ACR comes out.
    For instance, Photoshop reports my ACR as 5.5RC and ACR reports ACR 4.4 in camera calibration. Nevertheless I am running 5.5RC when I run ACR.
    Hope that helps...
    Anthony.

  • Camera Raw update problem

    I have tried six times to upgrade Camera Raw via the "Help" menu in CS5.  Each time it seems to download, but it always gives me an error message stating that there was a problem with the installation.  I am trying to open .rw2 files from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 camera. and my current version of Camera Raw will not accept them.

    Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    The FZ200 was first supported by Camera Raw 7.2 which is only compatible with CS6 and later.
    CS5 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to version 6.7. So there is no version of Camera Raw for CS5 which will open Raw FZ200 files.
    Options:
    Join the Cloud
    Upgrade to CS6
    Free option: download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all FZ200 Raw files to DNG format then open the DNGs in CS5.

  • Camera Raw disappeared Mac OS 10.6.8 CS5 Extended v12.0

    Camera Raw disappeared Mac OS 10.6.8 CS5 Extended v12.0. So has my Microtek Scanner (crashes). I've been told that upgrading to OS 10.6.8 caused corruption to the drivers. But both worked for long time with 10.6.8.
    I had Camera Raw but haven't used it for long time. Now it is just not there. I reinstalled it and today, installed the patch. But still no Camera Raw. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Where are you trying to look for Camera Raw? From inside of Photoshop? If so, you won't "find it" because Camera Raw is called on when you open a raw digital capture.
    Try opening Bridge and navigate to a folder with digital images, then open the image from Bridge, it should launch Camera Raw. If it doesn't either you are not opening a raw image or Camera Raw is not installed.
    Camera Raw can also open flat TIFFs and JPEGs, you can use the Bridge command Open in Camera Raw under the Fie menu...

  • Cannot open PSD or TIFF files in Camera Raw

    I made a picture in HRD Pro, and i want to work on it. I saved it as a .psd and also as a .tif, but I cannot open nor the .psd, nor the .tif in Camera Raw? If I save it as a .Jpg I already lose quality..?

    PSD files in Camera Raw:
    1.— Stay the heck away from Bridge!
    2.— Instead of right-clicking on anything, go to Photoshop's File menu and Select the Open menu item.
    In the dialog box that opens, find your PSD file, select it, then go down to the bottom of the box and select Camera Raw in the dropdown menu next to Format:
    TIFF files in Camera Raw:
    Just make sure to enable TIFF support in Camera Raw Preferences, then open it like you open any JPEG or raw file:
