Can an iPad generate an electrostatic discharge?

G'day,
I am doing some work for a client where the environment is potentially hazardous.
In doing process audits, one of the most efficient ways is to use an iPad and mark up the appropriate process system PDF file, however the question has been raised as to whether the iPad can actually act as the generator of an electrostatic discharge.
They have a supposed ban on the use of mobile phones in the process areas, however this has more to do with them having cameras than any ESD hazard. Even so, every person uses their mobile phones in these areas without incident.
So, the question really is that if you placed an iPad in the hazardous area, and did nothing other than use it, would the iPad act as the source generator of an ESD.
It's a bit like the warning of using mobile phones when refueling. Where there have been incidents, they have been triggered more by the act of getting the phones out of a pocket or handbag rather than the phone itself generating the ESD.
I've sea

iPad is not certified for operation in hazardous areas
it has a large battery with the potential to be a ignition source, it's not sealed, heck it's not even water proof
You can get intrinsically safe iPad cases see http://seeforge.com/intrinsically-safe/
suability would depend on the hazardous area levels
Find out were the hazardous area are and at what levels and if the ipad would need to operate in these areas or in a safe area
I would also seek the advice of an experienced hazardous area inspector to cover yourself
and get something in writing that's signed off by the client with procedures them taking responsibly
Protect yourself, if the client does not now the levels of hazardous area's, don't get involved, it's an accident waiting to happen
and when it does they'll along with the authorities  and insurance companies will be looking for a fall guy - don't be him .

Why can my iPad no longer find my wireless printer? Anyone know? It is an HP Photosmart 5510 printer. I had no problem a couple of weeks ago when I first got the printer. Very annoying! Many thanks jonni

    Jonni-
Did you make any changes to your system, like a new Wifi router?  Some are not compatible with AirPrint.
One possibility is that you have a print job stuck in the print queue.  Double click your Home button, and a row of recent Apps will line up along the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and look for the Print Center.  If it is there, you should be able to delete any stuck print job.

  • Can my iPad 4 be connected to my Kodak 5250 printer?

Can my iPad 4 be linked to my Kodak 5250 printer and if so can you assist in helping me to link the two.

    You have a few options
First look on Kodak's site. They have partnered with google docs to offer some options, such as being able to send the document to a computer hardwired to the printer. And I think some models support you sending the document directly to them, but I'm not sure on that part (it required a google docs account and since I didn't want another online account I didn't dig too deeply into it.
Also you can look into third party apps. I have print n share and it works just fine with my 7250. There is also printopia and print central and i'm sure there are others.

ATT should be okay, but not Verizon.  Look at the right panel, under "More like this", other users have asked similar questions.

Can anyone recommended an app for excel spreadsheet. One that I can username iPad that can do the same functions as excel of desktop,or laptop ??

Thanks for the advice. Just don't want to waste money on apps trying to get the right on. Not looking to do too much, just add filters maybe create a pie chart. Will the app you mentioned give added sums at the end of the spreadsheet like it would on the windows version?

    More information about this game:
The game should generate a random obstacle course for the player. The first column of the grid, however, should consist of all empty pieces, with the exception of the upper left-hand corner, which is the grid location where the player initially resides.
Enter a loop in which the following things happen (not necessarily in this order):
Print the current board configuration. Additionally, a key should be printed describing what each piece is.
Get an action from the user. The player can move up, down, left, or right. Use the following controls: up = 'i', down = 'm', left = 'j', right = 'k'. The player can move at most one block at a time. Of course, if the player tries to move into a spot occupied by an immovable block, the player will not move.
Inform the player whether they have won, or if they have lost (a player loses if they step on a bomb piece).
If the player types 'q', the game should terminate.

  • Can the iPad download software from the web like the Palm TX can??

Can the iPad download software/applications from the web that you can then upload to your Desktop or Laptop like the Palm TX can? (yes I've got one just for that reason but I'd love to have an Apple branded product)
So far the Apple Store people don't seem to know.
If not, there will be many people won't buy it, me included... And every person that does't buy one is a loss of revenue.
The lack of this key ability is why I haven't bought an iPod or iPhone…
Come on Apple answer our prayers.

YES, exactly.... I do NEED a small light weight device (smaller and cheaper than a Mac laptop) to carry around with me every day to download software to that I can download to use on my home computer.
The Palm TX was such a device that served such purpose... Somewhat over priced for for its small storage capacity and no longer available but a good product idea.
Except for the once a month NEED to download large applications (mostly version updates), I don't really have a NEED for cable broadband @ $49.99 per month ($599.88 per year) or DSL @ $39.99 per month (479.88) per year.
My email, shopping, banking and such only NEEDS dial-up @ $99.00 a year, which is what I have.
The fact people feed their WANTS instead of choosing only to feed their NEEDS is why many people are in debt often over their heads.
I haven't had any built up debt for decades. I try very hard to only take care of my NEEDS and not squander money on things I only WANT but don't really NEED.
I LOVE the Mac OS, it's one of the best OSs out there (priced good too)..... Next to Xerox's "Small Talk" (in-house R&D only) and Unix. But Apple's pricing of computers may drive me to the Dark Side or the Gray Side.. Linux .
And I'm also hoping that USB 3 will be soon on Macs so I don't have to pay the extra freight for Firewire as USB 3 will serve my NEED for faster than USB 2 speeds to the external devices I NEED to use.
One of the Prime Rules of Business is... Volume = Profit (or more profit)
