Proxying servlets and JSPs with apache

We have a couple of servlets within our application, the rest of it
being JSPs.
We are having a problems maintaining the session state across links from
the JSPs to the servlets. It works fine with WL as the web server when
the servlet picks up the same session as the JSPs, but when we are using
the apache bridge, the servlet seems to have a new session.
We are using WL5.1.0 SP6 on solaris.
The JSPs are proxied by extension, and the servlets by location -
everything under the servlet directory being directed to a servlet.
Is there anything we need to do in the configuration to allow this to
work?

you cannot use jsp tags inside uix xml pages.
you can, however, use uix jsp tags inside jsp pages.

To run servlets in Apache you need the mod_jk module. But as the previous post, it is better to use Tomcat and putting both, Apache and Tomcat, working together. Tomcat will serve all the java related things, and the Apache, the html, php, etc.

You would need a servlet container to run Servlets and JSPs. And Apache's Tomcat is one such free container available. Download Tomcat from http://jakarta.apache.org and integrate with Apache WS

Ok, I'm only beginning to get a grip of how all this works. And I have a lot of questions and confusion.
1.) The server that comes with J2EE, what is that server? Is it an app server that runs only servlets and JSP, with some Web server stuff so it can output some info? Is it a stripped down version of TomCat? I am having a lot of trouble with the J2EE server (the one that comes with the SDK), and that is why I'm asking, maybe I don't need it. But I really want to learn JSP's, JScripts, and Beans. How else can I go about doing that, other than all out Tomcat.
2.) Also can I run Servlets on Microsft's IIS on a Windows 2000 machine? Do I need a special API to run servlets, or JSPs?
So how I see it, and again, I am a newbie at this. Machines that host a website, above all needs a web server. let's say most people use Apache, and they want to run it in Linux, becuase they want to be hackers. So then do they also run Tomcat, or IIS, or Coldfusion, or a million other servers in tandem on the same machine, so that they can handle ASP, JSPs, servlets, .cmf, etc.? or do they separate the app server from the webserver and then do some sort of linking? if somebody can direct me to how all this stuff works, I would greatly greatly appreciate it.

I think for a newbie, deploying your jsp's and servlets
to a J2EE compliant app server can be quite a headache.
You might want to concentrate on tomcat, which does servlet
and jsp.
Some app servers provide a http connector for most common web servers.
I think tomcat has a IIS connector. In this case IIS would serve static html as well as its own stuff, other things like servlets and jsp go to tomcat. I am unsure about this as I mostly use tomcat in standalone mode. You can run tomcat on windows, as it is written in java.

Maybe a dumb question...
but Can I have ASP pages in my JSP application?
My problem is as follows:
In the JSP pages of my application, I have some links to ASP application:
http://domain/app.asp
Now IIS is running on another port. But I do not want to go through all my JSP and change the above link to:
http://domain:port/app.asp
Instead any request to http://domain/app.asp should be automatically forwarded to http://domain:port/app.asp
How can this be done? I am using Tomcat as my JSP container.

Actually that is not what I am looking for. I dont want to 'buy' any product. I dont want to deploy ASP application with the JSP application. I just want to redirect the client to another website through an ASP page.
Only catch is that this ASP page needs to sit in my JSP container (Apache Tomcat). Is this possible?

When you are using a jsp, its for user interaction only. and in any case, you require interactive component call.
this is the only way you can use a jsp in OBPM.
However, in a bpm interactive activity - you can also choose external as implementation type.
For this, you need to have your jsp source code reference added as an external resource in the project and the external resource is to be specified at configuration while setting implementation type.

You can use RequestDispatcher interface for calling a JSP from a Servlet, or vice-versa.
Following is the code for sending output to a JSP page from a servlet:

just now i read some articles about EJB and it make me a little confused in what i have understood about EJB and JSP ( at least i thought i understood them, but now ....()
1. i found that in most JSP examples, the javabeans are used but not the EJB, right? so i have a qustion, an EJB can be used in JSP or not? and how if it can? why if it can not?

why if it can not?It can be there for more of the examples,but you can invoke the EJB from the JSP also .Actual EJB is entirely the different concept whose foundation is build on the Distributed Technology.I advice you to read the Mastering EJB which is freely available at http://theserverside.com
before starting coding.The EJB is a vast concept and requires time and strong core foundation to understand,once it is clear then you understand it true potential...
