Can Apache Tomcat detect newly installed jdk/jre

Hi
I was using jdk1.4 and I uninstalled it and installed jdk1.5 but now Tomcat doesn't start, what do I need to change to make Tomcat detect the newly installed java or do I have to re-install Tomcat?

I'm sure you need to change either some config
parameter or your java_home variable.I've already changed the JAVA_HOME variable to the new java path

  • Install JDK/JRE 1.4.2 *after* JDK/JRE 1.5

    Hello,
I've installed the latest JDK/JRE 1.5, but for various reasons I need to install the latest version of JDK/JRE 1.4.2.
I'm using Windows XP SP2, and the Firefox browser is my default web browser.
Is this possible without creating a mess? In other words, will the 1.4.2 JDK/JRE installer recognize that a later version of the JDK/JRE is already installed and not replace such common components as the Control Panel applet with the earlier version? And will I be able to easily specify what version of the JRE the system should be executed with Java programs, jars and applets, as that Java Control Panel is supposed to allow?
I really want JDK/JRE 1.5 to be the usual system default, but allow occasional temporary changes via the Java Control Panel. I would
change over to the JDK 1.4.2 by altering the JAVA_HOME to point to the appropiate directory and placing %JAVA_HOME%\BIN at the head of the PATH.
    Will this work?

I've installed the latest JDK/JRE 1.5, but for
various reasons I need to install the latest version
    of JDK/JRE 1.4.2.So do it.
Is this possible without creating a mess?Yes. Though you can of course only use one plug-in and only have one in your path.
    In other
words, will the 1.4.2 JDK/JRE installer recognize
that a later version of the JDK/JRE is already
installed and not replace such common components as
the Control Panel applet with the earlier version? No, I doubt that. But you could install them the other way around, uninstalling 1.5, then then first installing 1.4.2 andf then 1.5 again.

  • Can't find my newly installed Windows Installer 4.5

    022614: Windows XP,
I've installed the newest version of Windows Installer several times and I can't find it anywhere on my system. It is not listed as a program and it is not listed in the Control Panel Add/Remove list.
How am I supposed to find out if my installation actually exists? I want to install an older version of Java (currently have 7u51) so that I can play the Text Twist game on Excite Games. The older version demands that I have Windows Installer on my system
before it can complete the installation. So I go find Windows Installer 4.5 and have tried several times to install it, but I can't find any proof that the installation actually completed.
I expected to see the Windows Installer 4.5 in the Control Panel, but it's not there. I do, however, have the latest version of Windows Installer Clean UP, as well as Windows Fix It.
Any help on this would be HUGELY appreciated.
    dmh

Thenk yew veddy mutch! I did run the msiexec.exe and it opened a Windows Installer window with a bunch of instructions about options and parameters that can be used. Here's a little capture of what was shown in the window:
    Windows ® Installer. V 4.5.6001.22159
    msiexec /Option <Required Parameter> [Optional Parameter]
    Install Options
    </package | /i> <Product.msi>
    Installs or configures a product
    /a <Product.msi>
Administrative install - Installs a product on the network
    /j<u|m> <Product.msi> [/t <Transform List>] [/g <Language ID>]
Advertises a product - m to all users, u to current user
    </uninstall | /x> <Product.msi | ProductCode>
    Uninstalls the product
Now I assume that this window is showing me that I "have" installed Windows Installer v4.5.6xxxxxx.xxxxx. I'm a little surprised that it doesn't list itself in the Control Panel.
I did go to the long link you provided and discovered that during my searches I had actually sifted through that forum (up to 18 pages, then I quit as I couldn't find any postings or threads regarding how you verify that you have, indeed, installed WI 4.5).
That was another surprising thing about the Windows Installer installation steps - the last step DID NOT verify that the installation was completed and everything was working properly.
So I'm very grateful that you gave me extremely useful information and now I'm off to try to install Java 6, 32-bit. Hopefully my WI4.5 installation will behave beautifully and I'll again be able to go into "brain dead" mode while I play Test Twist up to
100,000 just before I go to bed :)

  • I can't get any newly-installed application to launch..

So everything installed on my Lion iMac works absolutely fine. However, I recently tried to re-install Appfresh (an application updater), so I used Appcleaner to uninstall it, grabbed a new download, dragged it to Applications as normal, double-clicked it.. nothing. The icon sits in my dock, and the indicator pulses, continuously, but the application never appears. It's not in the Force Quit menu, and Activity Monitor has no trace of it either.
I thought, okay, something up with Appfresh. But I've since tried a couple of other apps, and a game (Botanicula), and the exact same thing happens. I've done nothing new in the way I've installed them, opened their .dmg files, and dragged the application into Applications, completely normally, but they all do the "sit in the dock and nothing else" thing. If I left-click them once in the dock, they vanish, and that's all I hear of them.
I've tried Disk Utility to do both verify and repair permissions to both the disk and the partition, but that hasn't solved the problem. I'm running the latest 10.7.3 with all patches to remove Flashback, etc.
Any idea what's causing this and how I might get it to work? Thanks in advance.

Is the source download file a zip?
Only use the built in lion uncompression tool -
3rd party ones like "The unarchiver" etc are not working - can either uninstall whatever you are using or check the prefs to untick for zip files.  No idea if this is the same for Rars etc

Can't fix a problem 'till an actual problem is identified.
    >> ODBC Driver Manager ... Data source name not found
That appears to be ODBC drivers looking for a DSN (Data Set Name). If it wants a DSN, the DSN has to be specified in the code, and the DSN has to be configured in the windows host ODBC applet. So that is at least two squirrels to get in the right tree before moving forward. A ...host:...[port:]SID|service name are some of the bits needed in a jdbc connect string, and that is in no way related to DSNs. A Whole Different Animal. If it wants a DSN that might be what needs to go in the URL bit.
And ODBC setups can be confusing, especially if an x64 OS is in the mix- if that is the case there are two different ODBC configuration applets, one for x64 the other for x86, and if one gets as far as talking to an actual database it might toss an architecture error. Only way to fix that "problem" is *delete* the ODBC DSN and then run the correct (maybe the x86) ODBC config utility, and set up the DSN. Again.

  • Apache Tomcat 4.0

I am a newcomer to Servlets and Tomcat. I have Apache Tomcat 4.0 installed. I am trying to run a servlet application which connects to the local database on my PC. • How is windows registry affected on installing JDK

I have a basic query ,when u install JDK ,JRE also gets installed

helpYes, installing the JDK does put registry entries in. Search your registry for java. It'll list all your JDKs and also which is the current one. You can switch the current one between your JDKs. Also, running java on windows often results ( in certain versions, I know it does on win2000 ) in putting java.exe in the winnt directory, so even though your path variable may point to the correct jdk, if the wrong java.exe is in your winnt directory that will get picked up, with pretty unpredictable results.

  • JDK = JRE

    Hi All,
    Just a quick question.
Am I right in thinking that the JDK is a super set of the JRE? I am installing the JDK but don't want to install the JRE package. Is there a way of setting up a JRE using the JDK installation?
I am installing a different application which requires the JDK and a JRE. It seems a bit pointless to install both at twice the space when one is contained within the other anyway.
    Thanks,
    David.

I'm sorry spardeep, but this is not the case.
Installing the JDK on it's own, installs the JDK and then asks you to install the JRE. If you ask it to install the JDK only it dose not make any associations with browsers or register itself so that other applications can use it.
When installing the JRE you can set IEXPLORER=1 for the installer to add the associations for IE, but this option seems to have no effect when installing the JDK.
    I am missing something?
    I am using:
jdk-1_5_0_10-windows-i586-p.exe "/V /passive /qb /lvx+ c:\Data\QuentinV3\Support\Logs\Java_Installer.log INSTALLDIR=C:\Data\Java\jdk1.5.0_10"to install, but ultimately all I really want is to install the JDK without asking the users any questions and hopefully configure the computer so that IE knows how to display applets.
I need the JDK because the JRE does not include:
jre\bin\server\jvm.dllwhich we use to run our server applications.

    Dear all,
i prepared one sunray server. now i want to install VDI on it. so i unconfigured sunray. and completely uninstalled it. but /opt there is apache tomcat showing. when u install sunray server. you need to install apache tomcat seperately. as well as java. but how to uninstall apache tomcat.
and if installed VDI 3.2 on top of it. will it be replaced or no.

Using the Oracle Universal Installer, click the uninstall button and see if the Web server appears in the list of installed products. If so you should be able to uninstall it there.

  • Detecting and Installing JRE

    Hello
I'm a setup developer, and I'm tryng to detect from my setup program if the JRE is installed, all that by code, searching the registry whatever, then if it's not installed launch a Silent mode installation of JRE, But I don't know how to do it
How you can detect the installed JRE ?
How you can install JRE in silent mode?
    Thanks

    Can you detect JRE ?
The answer is yes. You have to read the registry and look for the uninstall string ( if you are using the 1.5.0 beta1 that got released today ) this is the registry value
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{3248F0A8-6813-11D6-A77B-00B0D0150000}
    and the string is
    MsiExec.exe /I{3248F0A8-6813-11D6-A77B-00B0D0150000}
look for these registry keys and you have detected the JRE
Is there a silent installation ?
    Yes the command is
    <jre>.exe /S /V" /qn"

  • Can't install JDK 5.0 on Windows

I'm trying to install Java 5.0 on my Windows NT Workstation 4.0 box, but I can't get the installer to work. If I try the combined Netbeans 4.0 beta 2 and JDK 5.0 installer, it installs Netbeans fine, but then stops and complains that there "may have been an error installing" JDK 5.0 and tells me to look in install.log. Unfortunately, it hasn't created an install.log file.
If I try the separate Windows Offline installer for JDK 5.0, I get the splash screen and the harddisk rattles a while, but then I get a dialog asking me where it can find the "Java 2 SDK, SE v1.5.0.msi" file. I can't find that file anywhere so I have no choice but to click Cancel.
What's going on? Is there some installer-less version of the JDK somewhere which I can use? Can I cause the installer to run correctly?

I had a similar experience with both the JRE 5.0 and JDK 5.0 installations on my machine with Windows XP service pack 2. The installations would start coping files and installing. Near the end of the installation, the installation would just freeze. I brought up Windows Task Manager and noticed a java process was running and not taking up any CPU time. I tried but could not kill this java process. I tried to shutdown down my computer, but in the end I had hit the off button my case.
I uninstalled the JDK and tried again. Once again the installation freezed right when it started a java processes. From the command line I then tried java -version. Nothing happened and the command would not return. I brought up another command window and tried again. Same result. Now I had three java processes in the Windows Task Manager. I tried to "end process" all three java processes, but they would just remain the Windows Task Manger. All three could not be killed. Once again I had to turn my computer off (Shutdown didn't work again, it would just freeze).
After rebooting I was able to run java -version and get "1.5.0". It seems that whatever the installation did before starting the java process was enough for me to use java 5. What does the installation spawned java processes do?
I tried several things to get the installation to run all the way through. I cleaned my PATH and other environment variables, I tried stopping all unnecessary processes and services. Everytime I ran the installation I got the same results.
Here are the steps I had to take on my computer to install j2sdk 5.
    1. Install JDK 5.0.
    2. Watch for java process in Windows Task Manager.
    3. Turn off and then turn on the computer.
    4. Install JRE 5.0
    5. Watch for java process in Windows Task Manager.
    6. Turn off and then turn on the computer.
