Can file size validation be done in client for af:inputfile

if you upload a big file with size bigger than the 'org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.UPLOAD_MAX_DISK_SPACE' in web.xml, then it will take a long time to process. finally, a error message is shown in the page, saying "the file is too large". the whole page seems hang during the uploading process.
can this size validation be done in client site before uploading?

Actually our QA had fire a bug for this issue,:
they set proxy and not check the bypass option , then when they upload a 100M size file ,the browser will hung there during the uploading process
and they do believe this is ADF's bug ,no matter how we explain
so we had do some research try to fixed it by ourselves , then here is a workaround may be work ,we have not implemented just have this thinking :
In IE browser we can use the ActiveX to implementation
In FF and Google Chrome we can use the W3C's new API to get the file size:
<input type='file' id='fileinput'>
<script>
var input = document.getElementById('fileinput');
var file = input.files[0];
var fireName = file.name
var fireSize = file.size;
</script>
But I also found in some documents pointed that the Struts and Sprint framework can check the upload file size before the file uploaded , but I do not know how can they do that.
If other framework can do that why ADF can not, then we need to resolve this issue by ourselves?

    How can I send a site plan to client for approval?

    Hi Chirptile,
    There is no specific option to send only the site plan to someone for review. But you can send the locally saved .muse file via email and your client can open that file in Muse to review.
    Please clarify further if I misunderstood in any way. Also you can contact us here Contact Customer Care -> click on 'I Still need help?. Contact Us' and then chat now for any instant help.

  • Why Does Save As-PDF/A reduce file size when I don't want it to?

    I scanned a 4-paged printed card with my Epson Perfection 4490 scanner in order to digitally archive it. Each page is about 5x7 inches, and I scanned at 100 percent. I scanned each page as an individual TIFF image file, at 600 samples per inch.
    I brought each TIFF image file into Photoshop one at a time. I saved each TIFF as a JPEG, at Quality: 8, Baseline ("Standard").
    Then, I brought the JPEG's into Adobe Acrobat Pro to create a 4-paged PDF. Initially, the file size of the saved 4-paged PDF was 5 MB. (Later, I determined the individual JPEG's add up to 5.2 MB.) When saving as PDF/A, the final format that I want to use, the file size was unexpectedly reduced from 5 MB to 2.5 MB.
    What is the reason for the file size being reduced to 2.5 MB? I had already done the compression that I wanted in Photoshop. The PDF was not downsampled. I purposely did not use Optimizer.
    I did a test. This time, in Photoshop, I compressed each TIFF to JPEG, at Quality: 5, Baseline ("Standard"), the Medium setting instead of the High setting. After bringing these JPEG's into Adobe Acrobat Pro, the saved 4-paged PDF was 2.8 MB in size, an expected smaller size. Saving as PDF/A produced a file of 2.6 MB in size, very close to the same size this time, possibly indicating it accepting the Medium quality level.
    Apparently, saving as PDF/A reduces the quality level of JPEG's to Medium quality, when they are of higher quality to begin with. It seems to be designed to optimize even when I don't want it to.

    Here's the Audit Space Usage for the original 5 MB file. It shows the images taking up the majority of the space, as expected:

  • File size goes from 54mb to 214mb for my 250 page pdf portfolio upgrading from 9 to X

    I have a 250 page portfolio created in 9 pro. When I upgraded to X, the file size went from 54mb to 214mb. Anyone know why this would increase by 400%? And, have i made a big mistake upgrading to X? What can be done to keep the file size somewhere near the original 54mb? Each pdf has 1 jpeg and a bit of text.

    Hi "lampmaker". I'd suggest logging a bug for this and being as detailed as possible about the contents of our portfolio. The form for bug reports can be found here https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&promoid=EWQQL

  • Choosing an optimal size ( file size, MB's,tiff or jpg) for iphoto

    I apologize to Old toad and others who have responded. OT seems to be the only one who answers so much. He deserves a standing ovation which i am giving him now.
    But:
    Lets start at the beginning. I am a semi-pro (i do not make my living on my photography) who never used Iphoto but must now because i wish to create a 100 page book.
    I have files mostly tiffs that range from 17.2 to 60 MBs in size ( 3008-5000 /2000-3000 dpi ). I see that Iphoto ad nauseum creates a thumbnail, and a copy of the original photo for each photo. This is not HD friendly.
    How big in pixel size/file size in MB's should the files be so that i do not use so much HD space? Should i just go ahead and drag the files that i have and allow for 5-10 GB of photos to accumulate on my HD? I realize i do not need
    my files so big and that is why i ask here in the forums.
    I realize most of my files are non compressed tiffs,i.e. big in file size.
    What say you? Please be specific. Mention a specific file
    size in MB's please
    thanks

    Glen:
    I've created several books. They were with cameras that produced 1600 x 1200 pixel image files which will give a maximum 300 dpi size of 5.3 x 4 inches. All of my books have been the Storybook theme so the one photo per page is not a full page and I've never run into the warning for low resolution. Possiblly a full 8.5 x 11 photo page would have given me a warning. For the intended use of the books I found them to be very good. My Canon camera's color profile is very close to the Apple recommended sRGB so I've calibrated my monitor with the sRGB profile. Any edits I do with Photoshop CS3 embed the sRGB profile in the resulting file.
    My current camera gives me 2272 x 2704 images. Haven't ordered a book since I've started using it but am in the process of creating one right now.
    It's not the MB size of the file that's important but the number of pixels in the image. For a full page photos, an image size of 3300 x 2250 would meet the optimal 300 dpi of the printing by Apple's suppliers. However, I have no doubt that my current camera's files would produce a good print at that size. That is if I got a good sharp image to start with.
    So a 3300 x 2250 pixel jpg would provide just as good a print as the same sized tiff. Just keep as many pixels in the image as you can. For those good photographers that can do their cropping when they take the image that will maximize the files pixels for printing. I don't have the eye for that. But then my photos are of rapidly changing family situations and I don't have time top compose the picture.
    I asked Apple about the printing and quality of materials used in the books and here's their replay:
    I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
    "Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
    I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
    iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
    While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

    Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
    All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
    The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
    The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
    All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
    All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
    All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
    To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:

    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • JAR file does not get uploaded to client for my SERVLET generated APPLET

    Some help please...
    I have a servlet that generates the HTML code that contains an APPLET. This APPLET needs a JAR file that is listed under its ARCHIVE property. The SERVLET is in a JAR file that is in the same directory as the other needed JAR file. If I create a static HTML with the output of the SERVLET it works fine. But if go through Weblogic the needed JAR file does not get uploaded to the client so I get a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:and my APPLET does not load.
    Q1: I am not sure what to put under the CODEBASE tag. I tried "." and I also tried "http://mymachine" but both did not work. I also tried without the CODEBASE tag. No luck. The SERVLET is bound to http://mymachine/servlet.
    Q2: Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? Is there a way to force the browser to upload a certain JAR file?
    Thanks...

    It works!!
    This is what I did:
    The jar file in question was the weblogic.jar. I tried putting it under the lib directory of my war file but I had problems because the weblogic.jar contains other war files inside so when I tried to deploy my war file it also tried to deploy the inner war files which for some reason did not work. So I tried removing the war files from the weblogic.jar and this time I had no problems deploying my war file but I still could not find the classes I needed. So I tried moving the weblogic.jar to the root dir of my war file and it worked!! Now the trick here was: I did not set the CODEBASE AND I had the ARCHIVE paramenter set in TWO places like below:
    <APPLET CODE = "marketmap.client.MarketMapApplet"
    ARCHIVE = "weblogic.jar"
    WIDTH = "657"
    HEIGHT = "382"
    ALIGN = "BOTTOM"
    ALT = "APPLET tag not recognized">
    </XMP>
    <PARAM NAME = CODE VALUE = "MyApplet" >
    <PARAM NAME = "type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.2.2">
    <PARAM NAME = "scriptable" VALUE="false">
    <PARAM NAME = ARCHIVE VALUE="weblogic.jar">
    </APPLET>
    Actually if you do not place a parameter named ARCHIVE (at the end) it wil NOT work. I tried with multiple jar files listed and it works great too.
    Anyway I figure I'd share. Thanks for the help too.
    Lastly for people who choose not to upload the jar files to clients, you should look at the bea documentation on applets. It lists a classpath servlet that allows you to provide classes to the clients without having to force them to download the jar file.

    I think you would need to contact Oracle support to get the CD's if they're still available. 8.1.6 is desupported.
    What kind of errors do you get whne trying to use Crystal with Oracle 8.1.7.4? Perhaps this is an ODBC issue?

  • How do I reduce the file size of a pdf to email?

    I have a 260 MB pdf file generated from Photoshop 6.  I can't seem to reduce the size in Photoshop.  Is there anyway to reduce the pdf outside of Photoshop?  Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Scott,
    That's a pretty big PDF! You'll have to reduce it pretty dramatically to attach it to an email. But, you can use Acrobat to reduce the file size. Please see this video for pointers: https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-compress-a-pdf-file
    If you don't have Acrobat, you can try it for free for 30 days. For more information, see www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • Reducing project file size

    I've got a project that I'm working on. It's 7 tracks of audio and just under 4 minutes long. But the project file size is over 2 gigs! I ran the "Clean Up" option from the project management option under file. That only took it from 2.3 gigs to 2.1.
    Why is it so large and what can I do to reduce the project file size? 2.1 gigs seems way too large for what it is.

    Don't know if you found a solution but I did. Here's what you do:
    im my case I save a lot. Like, I save after every operation. This causes Logic to keep lots of saved audio files in the project that I've overwritten a dozen times already.  I might perform 20 takes of a passage in a song I have.  Logic will keep all 20 takes even though I've deleted the audio file in the editor window.  This causes my 3 min song to bloat out to 2-3GB in size.
    When I'm reasonably sure I like the condition of my song and it's structure I will then do the following:
    Save a new version of the project. Then open "window - project audio". This opens the project audio window.  In this window I select "edit - select unused audio". This highlights all the audio files that have been deleted/overwritten by myself during my recording and editing. I then hit the Delete key. I believe Logic then confirms the delete command and deletes the unused audio. I close the window and save a new copy of the project. Now my file size is a sane number (450mb for example) rather than the 2.5GB it was before. Of course doing this I've eliminated the ability to "undo" any audio editing/deleting but I've already confirmed that fact.
    Hope this helps you out. It helped reduce a 6 min project that was 5.7GB back to a sane number of 890mb. I guess you can say I do a lot of, umm, takes
