Can HP Softpaqs be installed during deployment using offline media?

I have some systems that use HP Softpaqs to install drivers/applications that need an installer to run and there is no apparent silent command that works on the softpaqs directly.  I tried /s /silent /quiet etc. and they all still pop up a wizard.
So, we will need to use the HP SDM SSM to quietly install these application based drivers, but the process seems to run based on connecting to a UNC path.  However, we will be using offline USB deployments for these systems with no network.
Is there any way to get this done other than manually installing these Softpaqs or making a model specific image that contains all the drivers already installed?

In the majority of cases I find the softpaq exes are just self extracting to the swsetup folder.  YOu can sometimes get away with adding the app in as an application and using a VBWrapper.
If they contain drivers only, add them in to deploy as normal, if they contain applications I'd control it through the task sequence.
Crack open your task sequence and under the custom tasks folder create a folder for which ever model you're imaging.  Place a condition on the folder, such as a WMI query on the model so the tasks inside the folder will only run if the condition is
met, then place your Softpaqs in as applications with a silent install command.  I blogged about this, it may help you.  See what you think:
http://www.deploymentshare.com/post/singular-task-sequence-multiple-jobs
If you create a "softpaqs" folder within applications and add them in as apps, you will be able to select that folder to be included in your offline media when you regenerate it so it wont look to any UNC path at all.

The problem is that some of the softpaqs will not install silently if you execute them directly and, if you use ssm to run them, I don't see any way of controlling the installation order.  I don't see what controls the installation order of ssm.
Some will install silently, but there are some really messy "driver" installs that install applications and make registry edits and run batch files that do other things, yet they do not document any silent commands to launch them other than using
SSM.

  • When I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.

So starting recently (last couple of months) when I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.  There's nothing there, it's just completely blank, when in the past my whole iPhoto library would show up with thumbnails and I could just choose the pic to attach.  Now I have to drag the photos I want from iPhoto onto the desktop and then I can find them there to attach to my e-mail.  How can I get my iPhoto library to show back up the simple way when I want to attach photos?  I've been having this problem attaching photos in hotmail or yahoo.

It should be an attachment.  Your Mac just displays a preview of certain attachments (such as .pdfs) in the body of the message.  A PC, for example, will see it as an attached file rather than a preview.
You can save the attachment on your Mac by Control-clicking on it and selecting Save Attachment.

  • Re-Installing Windows 7 Using Recovery Media (DVD's)

    Notebook: HP-430 Notebook
    OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)
    HDD: 298 GB
When i newly bought my HP-430 notebook, I re-partitioned HDD using some other third party software.I created one additional partition (M:\). Here is the info, of how i had repartitioned....
    C:\  - 100GB (changed from 284 GB to 100 GB).
D:\  - Did not make any changes.
M:\  - 184 GB (Created a drive by my self).
Then after some days for testing purpose i thought of using recovery manager. So i run the setup and chose the First option (System Restore) which said that it will only reformat the system drive (C:\), and will not perform any other HDD changes. But to my surprise it deleted/reformated the full HDD, and i lost all my documents, music, photos, and all my important files, which i had stored/backed up on M:\ (which i had created)....
Can some one tell me why the hack this happened.....????
Then now, next point. After recovery manager had restored the OS, i again repartitioned it, But this time with Windows Disk Management Tool. But Windows Disk Management didnt allow me to shrink(resize) the C:\(Systemdrive) less than 150 GB. So i resized C:\ to 150 GB from 284 GB, and created one more drive (M:\) of size 147 GB. And i deleted the Recovery Drive (D:\), but i have created the Recovery DVD's before deleting Recoevery Drive from my HDD.
Again now its time for me to reinstall Windows 7 using Recovery media, as i have messed up with some system files while installing a theme for Windows 7, and now my OS is completely unstable. So now i want to reinstall windows 7, but I cant understand which option to chose in recovery manager (when run from Recovery DVD's)
    Options shown in recovery manager
    1. Recover using Microsoft Recovery
    2. System Recovery (The option which i had chosen for the first time and got all my stuff deleted)....it says it only reinstalls the OS and wont perform any other HDD changes.
    3. Minimised Image Recovery
    4.Factory Reset.
So now my question to you guys is that.......which option do i chose in recovery manager so that all my backed up content and my stuff on M:\ (which i created) wont be deleted..and the OS will be reinstalled.....
    PLIZZZZZ HELPPPPPPPPPPPP.........................
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
I don't believe that any of the recovery options from the Disc will retain your custom partition - As far as I know, the only time you will get a prompt to keep a custom partition is when using the 'Minimized Image Recovery' option from the Recovery Partition D which you have removed.
You could try the following work-around.
Download the correct Windows 7 Disc Image from the link below - this must be exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the version you would need to download.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.
Use the disc you create to perform the installation - when you get to the option to choose the type of installation, choose Custom and select the C partition.
When asked, enter the Windows activation key found on the underside of your notebook, then when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers you may need can be found starting Here.

  • Can't change preference to apply transitions using available media

I'm trying to change the preference in FCP X 10.3 to have FC use available media for transitions.  According to my official Apple training materials this should be done in the preferences in the Editing tab.  That preference setting is simply not there (see attached screen shot).  Has it been moved to another location or has the method been changed in this rev of FCP?

That's been removed. Unfortunately the Apple book came out early, based on 10.0 and has much that is wrong. It is now always set to use available media. If you get an error message when you try to do the transition, it means there is not available media.

  • I can't find the audio books transferred using OverDrive Media Console

I have downloaded audiobooks using OverDrive Media. They are transferred to my Ipod nano but don't show up in "Audiobooks" .or anywhere else.

Do they appear in iTunes?  They must, since you used iTunes to sync the items to your iPod nano...
In iTunes, in what category (under LIBRARY in sidebar) do they appear?  If they do not appear under Books, find (and select) the items in your iTunes library (or on a playlist), wherever it is listed.  Do a Get Info on the item.  In the Info window, on the Options tab, make sure Media Kind is set to Audiobook.
Make sure the items now appear in the Books category.  Try syncing them to your nano again.

There are two things I observer here.
              1. The ResourceAdapter class does not seem to be found by Weblogic. It's part of the javax.resource.spi package.
I checked the weblogic.jar archive in the WL-HOME/server/lib folder. It does not seem to have the class. Why ?
              2. It complains about the ManagedConnectionFactory not being found. Am assuming that if the RA was deployed
in the first place, I would not have seen this error (coz, the ManagedConnectionFactory would have been
deployed in the previous step). Right ?
I did observe that WL 7.0 supports only JCA 1.0. In JCA 1.0's (public) API, there is no mention of the
javax.resource.spi.ResourceAdapter class, though the spec talks about it. ??
Note: I had designed and implemented my RA as per JCA 1.5 (but nothing 1.5-specific, I guess).
              Any ideas ?
              thanks,
              raghu

I figured it out. Darn simple.
My ManagedConnectionFactory implementation referenced ResourceAdapter as
it has to implement the ManagedConnnectionFactory interface of JCA 1.5.
In JCA 1.0 (which is supported by WL 7.0 & 8.1), the ResourceAdapater
is undefined. Hence, the classloading problem.
              Sorry for any confusion.

  • Is there ANY way I can get music on my phone WITHOUT using the media manager?

Is there? I think it's ridiculous to have to pay for music service when I should be able to use the music I have already paid for with a different service.

You can sync music from your computer, if you have music on your computer. The steps of how to sync is provided below.
    SYNC MUSIC
Allows you to synchronize your music files from PC to your phone.
In order to use this option, you must insert a microSDTM card and plug in the USB cable
(included inbox) to your phone and connect it to a USB port on your PC.
    1. Slide the phone up, tap Media Center and then tap Music & Tones.
    2. Tap Sync Music.
    3. Drag and drop the song(s) you want to sync from your PC to corresponding
folders. Once synchronization is complete, tap Cancel or the Home Key, and
disconnect the USB cable (included inbox).
    4. Under Music & Tones menu, open My Music to view and play your music files.
This information can be found in your user guide with your device. You can also go to the link below for the user guide.

  • Can't stop backlight timing out when using OverDrive media

Subject says it all.  The OverDrive brightness control does nothing. Constant dimming makes the Playbook rather useless as an eReader.
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi: Slightly embarrassed! Did none of those things. Finally realized that I could set the time out to a maximum of 5 minutes. The choices I initially saw only ranged from 10 - 45 seconds and I didn't scroll up. Hey, we can't be bright and intelligent all the time!
So, the two minute setting works as it takes less than two minutes to read a screenfull, and hitting page forward keeps the PB awake.
It was mere stupidity on my part as I thought that I was stuck with a maximum of 45 seconds.
If only I could answer my other PB questions as easily!

  • Can't open video project--missing codecs and offline media

I tried opening a project in Elements 7 (old, I know), but it said that "this type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed." When I close the dialog box the project opens and the music is there, but the pictures and videos have been replaced with a red screen that says "media off-line." I tried opening a different project I created a few weeks ago and it opened just fine.  I store all my projects on an external hard drive.  Any thoughts on how I can get my video back?

    Great news!
CODEC's are a subject that could fill a good-sized book (and has), plus new ones, or heavily tweaked ones, appear almost quarterly, so that book would need to be updated every 3, or so, months. For general discussion on CODEC's, there is a link in that mentioned article, down a bit, and more detail is offered.
What often happens is that one will have many CODEC's installed on a computer, and much AV material is covered by those. Then, if the OS gets upgraded, or one moves to another computer, the list of installed CODEC's does not include one that is necessary. In those cases, knowing the exact CODEC required, is the first step (MediaInfo, or G-Spot will be helpful here), and then downloading (might be free, or for pay) and installing the required CODEC, will usually solve the issue - so long as one's NLE (Non Linear Editor) can use that CODEC. Many will just be a simple install and reboot, but some are quite specific, and might, or might not be useful for editing, depending on the NLE. An example of this is DivX, and Xvid, which can be used for playback, and DivX for Encoding out of PrE, but PrE usually does NOT edit material with either of those CODEC's, even if properly installed on a system.
Glad that you got it sorted out, and happy editing,
    Hunt

  • Can't manage to install Windows using Bootcamp

For some reason I can't manage to install Windows 7 using bootcamp. It paritions the disk, pop in the Windows installation DVD and restart.
The Macbook Pro takes a while to startup (it stays on the grey screen for a while). After a while of waiting, it goes to a black screen with a white blinking thingy on the top left of the screen. Here is where it gets stuck... I've tried to leave it like that for 30 minutes or so, but it just keeps blinking.
I tried holding the option key at startup and boot into the disc, but it does the same thing. I'm using a original Windows 7 DVD. I tried a XP CD also, no go.
I'm using an early 2008 Macbook Pro (2.4Ghz) with Snow Leopard.
    Anyone can help?

Having this exact issue after getting my (Early 2008 24", 3.06GHz, 8800GS) iMac back from having it's stock drive replaced by Apple.
Prior to the drive replacement, it had a stock 500GB drive, and dual-booted 10.6/XP Pro flawlessly. Then the drive died. After running it off an external for a month, I brought it in for service.
Apple replaced it with a 640GB, as apparently they don't stock the 500GB disks anymore.
    10.6 works fine.
Applied updates, restored my home directory and apps from the external, no problems.
Ran BootCamp Assistant, made a 120GB partition. Inserted the same XP CD I've used before. Reboot...black screen, flashing cursor. Waited 30 min for it to pick up, nada. Rebooted, held down Option, picked the disc - same deal.
Rebooted into 10.6, checked the disc was readable. No problem. Tried starting an install in VMware from the disc. No problem. Tried the disc in my MBP. No problem, boots like a charm. Highly skeptical the CD is the issue.
Re-ran BootCamp Assistant, merged the partition back into the 10.6 one. Rebooted from my 10.6 install disc, ran Disk Utility's Repair over the internal disc - no errors found. Repaired permissions to be safe (found a couple minor things in my home directory). Rebooted into 10.6 and ran BootCamp Assistant again, this time with a 32GB partition. Same problem.
Rebooted from the 10.6 install media, wiped out the partitions, laid a new, fresh OSX install on the internal. Booted, ran updates, then BootCamp Assistant (did not copy any of my data back this time, nor did I install anything other than the OS and updates). Same problem.
Shut down completely, unplugged for 5 min or so (reset SMC). Booted, clearing PRAM. Booted into 10.6, re-merged the partitions. Rebooted, clearing PRAM again. Booted into 10.6, ran BootCamp Assistant to create the partition. Rebooted, clearing PRAM yet again. Removed all peripherals save the keyboard/mouse. Tried to boot from the Windows CD - same problem.
Dug out my WIn7RC1 DVD for kicks. Same problem through similar iterations. This disc also boots fine on the MBP, and can start a VMware installation without issue.
As we speak, I'm booted from the 10.6 installation media once more, this time zeroing out the internal disc entirely. If this doesn't work, I'm not sure where to go next.

  • Office365(Click to Run) Deployment with MDT Offline Media

    Hi,
I have a scenario where i have to deploy Office365 using click to run with MDT offline media. Now the problem is with configuration.xml file in which we specify the source path of office files.
Here in this scenario as i have to deploy client machines with offline media, so in this case what will be the path in the config.xml file?
For testing purpose, after downloading the office source files, placed the setup.exe,config.xml file and office source folder in a same folder. Here is the config.xml file that i am using
    <Configuration>
    <Add SourcePath=" " OfficeClientEdition="32" >
        <Product ID="O365ProPlusRetail">
          <Language ID="en-us" />
        </Product>
      </Add>
    </Configuration>
In source path, i leave it blank,so that it will use the office source files which was saved in the same folder.
Then in MDT server, created a new application for Office365.In command line used the command :- setup.exe /config configuration.xml
Created a new task sequence for OS deployment and added the step install application for installation of Office365.
After creating a selection profile for the deployment, created a offline media for deployment of client machine.
Now while i am running the offline media on the bare-metal machine, after OS installation the deployment got stuck at step install Office 365. Got error message pop up, according to which internet connection needed during installation process so that the
click to run set-up will download the office source files, It means this will not use the previously downloaded file which was saved in the same folder.
So this is what my problem is.. How can i customize the configuration.xml file so that i can install office 365 with offline media.
    Regards
    Pallavi

    <Add SourcePath=" "
....In source path, i leave it blank,so that it will use the office source files which was saved in the same folder.
    As per
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219426.aspx#BKMK_AddElement
SourcePath indicates the installation source path from which to install Office when you run the Office Deployment Tool in
configure mode. If you don’t specify SourcePath in
configure mode, Setup will look in the current folder for the Office source files. If the Office source files aren’t found in the current folder, Setup will look on Office 365 for them
So, for the /configure mode, you should remove the Sourcepath element completely - do not specify as <space>
