Can I cancel a message I've sent?

We are using iMQ to send a message that will invoke a translet. One of our
requirements is to be able to cancel translets and specific messages once a
message has been sent to the broker. For example, lets say three messages
are sent to a broker, message 1, message 2 and message 3. While all three
messages are sitting in the queue waiting for the client, we would like to
be able to cancel one of the messages prior to being sent to the client,
for example message 2. Once the client becomes available message 1 and
message 3 would be the only messages available. (We will also be
implementing point to point synchronous queues). So far this does not
appear possible. From what I have found the API's do not seem to support
this. Do you know if this can be done?

The JMS API does not allow the producer of a message to 'recall' the message.
The producer can set different priorities and expiration times on messages to
affect handling of the messages relative to other messages that the are
generated by the same producer.
Can you give more concrete examples of the contents of the 3 messages and why
you would want message #2 deleted?
You can acheive a somewhat equivalent behavior without the message actually
having to be explicitly deleted by setting different properties when they are
produced and having the client use selectors, in which case message 2 would
not be available to the receiving client and could eventually be expired (by
setting an expiration when it was produced) and thus be deleted from the
system.

  • Can't access any messages from (huge) sent .mbox

Hi - I had posted this elsewhere & gotten a helpful response, but now I can't find my thread - I'm so confused!!!!
Anyway - many months ago, I started to not be able to see sent emails ("needs to be downloaded from server" error). I didn't know what to do about it, so I didn't do anything, and just lived with the fact that I couldn't see them for awhile, and I'd need to fix this problem at some point when I had time.
Last night, I started to get that same error message when trying to view my inbox messages - EEK... so I came here, and followed the great advice about having an overstuffed mailbox. I deleted lots and lots of huge attachments from my inbox messages, and I haven't gotten that error since.
I did a "rebuild" on my sent mail to see if it would help, and it just emptied the whole list of messages (table of contents????) in my sent box, leading me to believe they were gone forever. Yet, even with an apparently absolutely empty sent mailbox, I was still not able to view a test message I sent to myself!!!! (Same error)
So I discovered a thread in this forum that was very helpful, and followed the instructions. I moved my sent mail .mbox (from my POP folder) to my desktop, restarted mail, and then I could view a test message I sent, in my new sent messages folder!!!! I was pretty excited about that, and was very hopeful as I tried to get back my 1.5GB sent mail .mbox. After backing up my whole .mbox file, I went to the file on my desktop, deleted the "content_index" and "tableofcontents" files after viewing the package contents, and copied the mbox file back into my POP folder. When I started mail again, it took forever for it to load, and I saw all my messages listed (EXCITED), but then tried to read one, and I got the same "download from server" message. (@#$%).
Is there any hope of getting these messages back???? I will happily strip them of all their attachments, if I can just get them back.
Also - the problems with overstuffing into one big, main box - I get it that I have to make my own mailboxes so no one file gets too big. But how can you do that with sent mail???? When I first got this computer 2.5 years ago, I spent hours trying to figure out if it was possible to do that, and was endlessly frustrated. I really wanted to be able to categorize my sent mail, and now that I know that it can get overstuffed, I'm ticked that it doesn't let you make sub-mailboxes within sent mail!!!!
Please help me get my sent messages back... it's 1.5GB, and I hope I didn't ruin all my chances by waiting too long. Thank you in advance if you can help me!!!!

    Hi Catherine.
You let the Sent Messages.mbox to grow too much and now it’s too big for Mail to be able handle it.
As you’ve already found, although in Mac OS X 10.3 and earlier *.mbox packages appear to be files, they are actually a special kind of folder containing several files that can be revealed by ctrl-clicking on the *.mbox package and choosing Show Package Contents from the contextual menu.
Of these files, mbox (not to be confused with the *.mbox package that contains it) is the most important and is where your messages are stored, but it’s not the only file that may contain messages. An Incoming_Mail file may also be present, in which case it might contain messages that Mail couldn’t transfer to mbox. Incoming_Mail is also a standard mbox file like mbox proper, just named differently.
Instead of tinkering with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/, IMO it’s preferable to try to import the mbox files back into Mail doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Other / Standard mbox as the data format.
If the mbox files are too big, however, importing them directly into Mail won’t work either. You’ll have to break them into smaller pieces. You can do that with an MBOX Breaker Script available at Allan Sampson’s website, or with Emailchemy. The former will ignore the Incoming_Mail file that I mentioned previously, but you may try importing that file directly if it’s not too big or just ignore it if all your messages are in mbox.
As to organizing your mail in custom mailboxes, what you say doesn’t make sense to me. You cannot create sub-mailboxes of any of the standard Inbox, Sent, etc. mailboxes. Those are managed automatically by Mail. You must create your own custom “On My Mac” mailboxes. Also, sent messages can be organized just like received messages. Actually, you can store sent and received messages together in the same mailbox. You should read the relevant articles in Mail Help to learn how this works.
BTW, the web page you’re looking at now is full of links to do things and look for information in these forums. Just pay attention to them. In particular, if you look at the right of this web page, you’ll see several ways to get access to any questions you’ve asked previously or discussions in which you’ve participated.

I reset my exchange password and now I am getting an error message saying the password is incorrect on my ipad. I can't cancel the message to get to settings to change it.

  • Can't delete unsent messages, name list is too long

This morning, I tried to send an email with a bcc list over 200 (a standard mailing list I use all the time). Unfortunately, the server wouldn't let me send it because of a single bad address. Now what I have in my Mail program is the unsent message on the screen, with the warning, "Cannot send message using the server mail.xxx.edu:xxx. The server "mail.xxx.edu" did not recognize the following recipients:" And then it lists all 200 names.
The problem is that the buttons that normally appear at this time (Edit Message, Try with Selected Server) are all the way off the bottom of the screen, so I can't cancel the message. All I can do is minimize it; it seems like the message is stuck there permanently.
The obvious solutions have failed. I can't scroll the list of names downward. I can't push the top of the message past the top of the screen. I can't quit the program and restart, because the message just comes right back. I can't zoom the screen out in order to see the buttons. There are no active cancel buttons at the top of the message. Help, thank you!
    - Erin

    Hello,
I just got the same problem. The list is blocking any access to the mail I want to send. I can at least minimize the window of that mail, allowing me to read and send other mails.
But this is really, really bugging me. I need to send a mail to the alumni of my university program, so I've composed a long mail with a lot of information. Now I can't even copy it to another mail because the message is there, blocking.

  • How do I enlarge the font in messages received and sent?  I have it set at "13", but it is very, very small on my screen.  I can't seem to change the appearance of the tool bar even when I try to "customize".

How do I enlarge the font in messages received and sent?  I have the font set at "13", but the appearance on my screen is very, very small.  When I try to "customize the toolbar" to look like the tool bar above this message, I am unable to do so.  Please advise.  Thank you.

Thanks MartinR, yes the Toggle bars can be adjusted so that I can see all the tracks - just in the smallest setting - however this also creates a huge area of grey which serves no other purpose than to "use up screen space". If this is deliberate then there is nothing one can do - since presumably the additional profit made on screen sales is more important to Apple, than the combined annoyance to those working on a 13" laptop. Of course a 15" screen or even 17" screen may make this wastage less obvious. Please indicate that this is all incorrect and explain why it is important to have space waiting "for additional tracks", even if I have no intention of making additional tracks. If that is the answer then perhaps additional space to the left and right of the timeline would be useful in case I wish to make a 30 minute film, so that it could be placed there without having to drag anything. It may be that I am expecting software than can be tailor adjusted, each parameter to the desired level as in professional items and since this is a cheap consumer program it is not possible.
I bought Final Cut Pro for a lot of money (when it first appeared it was thousands and not just hundreds) but never used it since it was too complicated and tedious, but maybe there, this problem of screen wastage does not occurr, perhaps someone can advise! I could go back and reinstall it, but it was made for 10.2.8 and not 10.6.8 so it would not run on this macbook. I recently bought an old 15" TitaniumPowerbook (from 2005) and despite running at 1MHz the response time on it is "instantaneous" - amazing to not have the almost half second delay on many commands - graphics appear nearly immediately (just 5 milliseconds delay) and this makes working so much more enjoyable, not having the (350ms) stutter of 10.6.8 which we all get used to after our initial disappointment.
    Thanks for your help!

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try the following:
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • E52 can't use non-US characters in sent messages w...

This is the most frustrating limitation in the new Nokia Messaging 2.0. I upgraded from E60 because I wanted the new email and messaging, only to find that together with the improvements (like using other folders besides the Inbox), Nokia "blessed" us with this terrible omission.
While I can write an email message using T9 in my language (romanian) which works fine and uses romanian characters, after the message is sent, it simply could not be read at the destination because all non-US characters are replaced with the "?" character. The old Mail for Exchange from E60 worked so well here!
So I cannot use T9 prediction and I am forced to use only US characters in order to compose an email message! Very clever programming, isn't it?
Note that reading non-US characters from received emails is working fine (well, almost... if the message is using the old incorrect characters from Windows XP - ş and ţ with cedilla, corrected in Vista and Windows 7 - ș and ț with comma. I hope Nokia will follow Microsoft and correct the characters, too).
Other account types (tested yahoo and gmail) do not have this problem, only Exchange.
So, I am going to regret buying another Nokia? Or is anyone really listening?

I don't have this setting in the email application. But as I know, html with Exchange is working only with the 2007 version, my server is still 2003 so I think in my case it's plain text only.
But I'm telling again: good old (and now starting to miss) E60 with MfE worked very well!
