  • Macbook Air Terrible Battery Life

There are a series of threads on these forums regarding the rare case where Macbook Airs get terrible battery life on Mavericks, and some of them have numerous posts telling you to make a new thread about your specific issue. Here's mine.
The issues began when I did my initial Mavericks update. I had a series of really bad things happen, so I did a cmd+R reboot, and reinstalled the OS. It didn't help, so I scheduled a Genius appointment, and they wiped the drive and installed Mavericks clean.
All of the issues are gone now, except for one: my computer gets less than half the life it did on Mountain Lion. I used to get 14-16 hours of battery life on Mountain Lion when nothing was running. I just charged it to 100% and had just 6 hours of estimated life.
I've reset both the PRAM and the SMC, and neither helped. Might you have any further ideas on how to fix this?
Note: I know that Google Chrome is less energy efficient than other browsers. With that said, I used to still get well over 10 hours at 98-100% battery life on Mountain Lion with Chrome open. My usage of Google Chrome is a constant in this equation; this issue can't be so easily dismissed as being an issue with Chrome, I think.
Here's a screenshot showing a number of things (no apps being open, the poor battery life, and activity monitor)

    And here's an EtreCheck report:

This may be because Spotlight is indexing your harddrive, do not interrupt it before it's finished and then it'll be much faster and your battery while behave normally if not better !

  • Improving the 2013 Macbook Air i7 battery life

    Hi
I've checked couple of topics related to this issue seems many people suffer from this problem, i7 8gb ram with 512gb ssd Macbook air has some issues with its battery life it reduced very quickly. I've applied some techniques -like smc reset, deleting launch daemons and agents- and have an improvement in battery performance. Now the point is, when i do the EtreCheck there are many kernel extensions displayed in the report. Is there any way to delete them and slightly improve the battery life?
    Here is the output:

You can use the new Activity Monitor to determine a unitless "Energy Impact" value:
You can also click the battery icon in your Mac's menu to reveal significant energy hogs (UPS is shown below):
Whereas Apple recently updated their apps to take advantage of Mavericks' energy saving algorithms, few other vendors have. I surmise the prominent "Energy Impact" hall of shame addition to the new Activity Monitor is Apple's subtle way of nudging them into compliance.
Google's plethora of invasive OS X system modifications is a popular reason for excessive battery drain. Google has yet to demonstrate the ability to develop efficient OS X apps, and one can only surmise they are not interested in doing so. If you elect to use Google Chrome or any other poorly implemented OS X programs, you must accept the detrimental effect they will have on performance and battery life.
If you no longer use a Blackberry, uninstall RIM's software. Be sure to follow its uninstallation instructions.

  • Macbook Air Poor Battery Life

I have a mid-2012 Macbook air and I've noticed recently my battery life is horrible. I've read every single other thread about this issue but nothing really helped and even the most recent is from a couple of years ago. Obviously now it's 2015 and my macbook is running on Yosemite, so its not the battery issue that everyone seemed to have with Mavericks.
Just writing that small section I went from 73% to 68% and at the current 68% I only get an estimated 2 hours and 10 minutes remaining. I've also had only Safari running this whole time.
Option clicking the battery icon reveals that the condition is normal, as well as the power system report. It also has gone through only 441 cycles, no where near its 1000 cycle "limit" and its health is already down to 77%. While obviously the condition is normal and doesn't say I need to replace the battery I feel that I should, based off of everything else.

Have macbook air from mid 2012 - I installed Yosemite November 2014 and since then I'm having problem with my battery - it has been draining super fast - 4hrs battery life now compared to earlier 8hrs.
I reinstalled Yosemite, didn’t help and then made a clean reinstallation of Yosemite about  5 days ago and there is still the same drain issue.
    Thank you in advance!

    1. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.9 or later.
    2. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
    3. You can also try resetting the SMC.
    4. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
    5. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • 2013 Macbook Air 13" battery life not as good as advertised

At full charge, the estimated battery life read a little over 17 hours. At 97%, it now reads 15:39. Like I get this is vastly better than the older Macbook Air, but it still falls quite short of the 24 hours advertised on the website. Currently, it is still at 97% but now the estimated battery running time reads 14:59. Is this normal? I accidentally drained my battery twice since I bought it at the beginning of August, and I understand that's not good for the newer batteries - could this be the reason? My screen brightness is at 50% and I have no movies or music playing. Safari is the only ap I have open.
I'd appreciate any ideas or help with this problem (that is, if it is one).
I just looked at the estimated time again, and while it is still at 97%, the estimated remaining time is at 13:48. It's taken me a little over a minute to type this.
I'm not very tech-savy - is there something wrong with the way I understood the advertised battery life?

The Air is nowhere advertised for 24 hrs. batt. life.........  in any configuration.

  • IMac can see my Macbook Air but not my Macbook

Recently upgraded iMac and Macbook to 10.5.8, Macbook Air running 10.5.7
Both laptops connected to iMac via Netgear wireless router.
    All was fine until yesterday.
Now my iMac can't see the Macbook but can see the Macbook Air when I go to Finder/Network on the iMac.
Curiously, the Macbook and the Macbook Air can both see the iMac when I go to Finder/Network on the two laptops.
Have unplugged the wireless router from the mains for five mins to reboot it.
Can confirm that Security/Firewall on the Macbook is set to "Allow All Incoming Connections"
    Anyone any suggestions???

  • My MacBook Air's battery health is decreasing.

My Macbook Air's battery health is decreasing. I bought it around a year ago. Now it's battery health is 85%. However, it keeps changing. From 85% to 88% and sometimes it hit 90%. Is my macbook's battery healthy? And is it normal, because I bought it a year ago.
    Here are my battery's properties:
    Cycles     ; 404
    Health     : 85%
    Design Capacity: 6700 mAh
    Current Capacity: 5703 mAh

i have to disagree with linc davis's reply.
system profiler, or what they call the system report will have your current battery health status. in power the system profiler will either display "excellent", "normal" or "check battery" the more charge cycles you have, (404 which you stated) the more the battery will loose some capacity. this is normal of lithium ion batteries
health 85 % is current capactiy (fully charged)  divided by design capacity * 100 or
    5703 / 6700 *100 = 85%
my mac book air, having it for a year states
    cycle count 163
    Condition : Normal
    Charge remaining 4223
    full charge capacity 4263
but system profiler, at least on my mac book air running osx 10.8.2 does not list design capacity. so i am wondering where you got that number. the mac book air i have is the mid 2011 11" model
if you feel after 400 cycles your battery diminished and you have apple care you can always ask them to replace the battery, but if you did not get apple care, then the year warranty would be up. a new mac book air battery outside of apple care or any warranties is $129 before tax at the apple store.
eventually the more cycles you have ( a cycle is being fully charged from being nearly discharged ) the more you are going to have to replace the battery. whenever you feel you are not getting the charge you used to get the discision to repalce that battery is your choice, but eventually you will have to replace it.
for example say the battery used to give you 3 hours amd now it only gives you 30 minutes, then yeah replace the battery. but if the time lost in capacity doesn't bother you that much, then don't replace the battery now

  • Just bought a mid 2012 13 in macbook pro. Battery life is only 3 hours. Thoughts?

Just bought a mid 2012 13 in macbook pro. Battery life is only 3 hours. I was under the impression that it would last 7 hours. This is with normal internet browsing and text editing. my brightness is not all the up and bluetooth is off. Thoughts?

  • Is there a way to create an AUDIO alert when my MacBook Air (Mavericks) battery runs low (say 10%)?

Is there a way to create an AUDIO alert when my MacBook Air (Mavericks) battery runs low (say 10%)?  I often miss the visual power percentage in the top bar, so would like an audio alert as well.

    For global alerts, yes:
There is no need to do anything before the alert appears, and the MBA will not lose data should it go to sleep. If it goes to sleep at 0% you still have several hours to plug it in before it shuts down.
I wouldn't even bother displaying the percentage value.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then see if placing the iPod in airplane mode when in standby helps.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

There is no need to uninstall earlier versions unless you are really short of disk space.
