Can I force Leopard to use a different python installation

I should have posted here initially at the Unix board...
Dumb question: Will Leopard use a different python install in bash than the python used by an ordinary GUI application? I want control over which python install the GUI application uses.
Does anyone know how to force Leopard to use a macports installation of python instead of the default Apple installation? I know how to get the shell to use it, by putting an "export" line into the ~/.profile file, or adding a .bash_profile file to ~/
and the bash shell will use my macports install of python. However when I use an application called blender
www.blender.org
which relies on python for some operations, it refuses to recognize some python modules installed in the macports version of python, which can be running simultaneously in bash. The python shell in Terminal says the module has been imported because there is no error message, but blender and the Console both say the module was not recognized by blender. Is it possible that the application blender has been compiled in such a way that it will only look for leopard's version of python? Is there a way to get leopard's python to take into account the mess of folders in macports python so that it can use the files therein? I've already tried putting the +/opt/local/bin, sbin, lib,+ and include folders into the path returned by env.

I'm not using MacPorts, and don't know how MacPorts installs Python. Is it installed in the form of framework?

If this is the case, then I guess you can tell blender to use this framework (instead of the Leopard's default framework) by setting the evironment variable DYLDFRAMEWORKPATH to "/opt/local/Library/Frameworks". Of course there is a possibility that the framework installed by MacPorts is not compatible with the blender.
But there is another problem; if you start blender by double-clicking on its icon, the environment variables set in your shell have no effect. You can set environment for GUI apps in ~/.MaOSX/environment.plist, but it will affect all the GUI apps so it is rather dangerous (if a framework in /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/ is broken, then many apps won't run correctly). So the first thing you may try is to start blender from the command line:
$ export DYLDFRAMEWORKPATH=/opt/local/Library/Frameworks
$ /Applications/blender.app/Contents/MacOS/blender
Of course the "$" above is the prompt of your shell, and you need not type it. If you have installed blender.app in a different folder then modify the path accordingly.

I fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file. This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings. Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus. That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.

Developing a 2 page form, username on the 1st page, password on 2nd how can i force FF to use the username from previous page when it asks to remember acct info?

I am developing a 2 page signup form, where the person enters their username on the 1st page and password on the 2nd.
When I test the form, FF asks to remember my password for the site - however it thinks the zipcode (field above the password) is the username on the account.
I have tried to put their username/email in a hidden field on the 2nd page, just above the password field - and that did not work.
How can i force FF to use the username from previous page when it asks to remember acct info?

This website is using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving and filling the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save names and passwords and other form data.

I just launched IDLE for Python 2.7.2 on Mac OS X 10.8.4.
The defaults for IDLE assume a PC environment and not Mac, thus it was expecting control+c, control+v for copy and paste. Under the IDLE Options menu, Configure IDLE...
Under the Keys tab, Use a built-in key set, select IDLE Classic Mac. Now command+c, command+v work.
Since I didn't want to squint, I set my Font to Ubuntu Mono 14 pt.
I applied these settings and clicked ok.
I successfully copied from a terminal window and pasted into IDLE with no issue.

Adobe plugin removed. Defaults set to Adobe Standard. I get Firefox demand to install plugin. How can I force Adobe to use Standard?

RESOLUTION (seems not logical, but this worked):
Firefox would do nothing other than ask me to install the Firefox plugin for Adobe, which I accepted. This process leads to re-installing Adobe Reader. After installing Adobe Reader, all of the defaults that I previously had set to use Adobe Standard were re-set during the Adobe Reader installation to use Adobe Reader interally in Firefox.
After re-installing, I was able to load the document that previously I was unable to load (using Adobe Reader inside Firefox). I changed all of the Adobe defaults (under TOOLS/OPTIONS) to "always use Adobe Standard" instead of "Use Adobe Reader (default)". I was then able to open the document using Adobe Standard.
It appears that the following process solved the problem:
> uninstall Adobe Reader
> reinstall Adobe Reader (and the Firefox Adobe plugin)
> change the defaults from "Use Adobe Reader (default)" to "Adobe Standard [release number]"
Note: I have Firefox 21.0 installed, and Adobe Reader XI 11.0.3 installed prior to, and after, this issue.

Can I have Leopard and Tiger on different drives???

The whole question: Can I have Tiger on one drive, Leopard on the other, and run the same programs from whichever one is the boot drive?
Will having the other OS on a nearby drive get in the way of anything? Both internal drives have Tiger on them, so If one goes nuts, the other might be helpful, but can that second drive become Leopard, so I can boot it and poke about? Will the Leopard drive be able to run the programs that are currently working within Tiger?
Is this asking too much?

Yes you can run Leopard on one drive and TIger on another - I currently have leopard on an external drive and Tiger on my internal drive
At David DeCristof's suggestion I cloned TIger onto the external drive (using Carbon Copy Cloner -- CCC) and upgraded to Leopard there
Since both drives contain all the same data and applications (at least started that way) I can run anything on either -- if I save data from Tiger that I want to keep after I clone Leopard back to my internal drive I will have to be careful to stove it on the external drive
It is, IMHO, a smart way to upgrade

Upgraded to IOS 8. iMessage has changed for the worse, losing messages now. How can I force iMessage to use SMS for some contacts?

SMS works well and is generally free for most plans here. I'd like to be able to send messages via SMS from my iPhone for many of these contacts because something changed in IOS 8 iMessage and now iMessages seem to get lost. Plus as before they can end up in multiple threads. This latter issue seems to be worse as well with iOS8 but not sure why.
For example one friend set up an iPad with her apple ID and subsequently gave it to her son. She also has an iPhone. I've been exchanging iMessage/SMS's with her which worked fine until the upgrade. Then she stopped getting my messages on her iPhone. Turns out that they were landing on the iPad. While it may be that she doesn't have things sorted correctly on her iPhone that doesn't change the fact that prior to iOS8 she could get my messages. So I'd like to designate her and a number of other contacts as SMS only.
Additionally I am seeing more multiple threads from the same contacts. Not sure why but it seems to have something to do with iOS 8 sucking in additional email addresses, e.g. @icloud.com and subsequently using these in some messages even though the contact is the same person. I've tried adding the new email address into the contact card I have on file for that person and this simply resulted in two threads with the same contact name.
Really what is up with this and why does Messages need to keep track of all this info? The only requirement to direct a message between to iDevices should be valid Apple ID's on both with a means to reference this (Phone Number, Apple ID Email Address) in the respective contact. In the absence of this the message should be sent as SMS.

I have the same problem on iOS 7.0.3. With one particular friend I receive iMessages from her just fine and I can send her iMessages from Mac OS X and Messages on iPad, but Messages on my iPhone keep sending her my messages as Text messages. I send iMessages just fine from the same iPhone. SFChuch, what ios version is your recipient using? Did they sign up on iCloud? I wonder if the problem happens with recipients who are not properly registered on iCloud or some special case like that.

I've set up SEND NEW MESSAGES FROM Account of selected mailbox, for all our email accounts. But that gets ignored almost always when my wife writes a message. It goes out under her name, but my email address is attached, not hers. Very confusing!
These are gmail accounts, using Apple Mail. If it's important, our default browser is Firefox (and no, not only because of my name).

Can I force iPad to use Apple TV for WiFi

I have an Apple TV connected via Ethernet and Powerline adaptors to my Extreme router. I had understood that the ATV would broadcast a wifi signal much like an Airport Express and indeed all services via Airplay seem to work. However, connection via iPhone or iPad is particularly flakey and these devices seem to try to connect to the wifi signal being distributed by the Extreme upstairs. I have taken all Airport Express devices out of my system to avoid confusion.
I have a full strength signal indicated on the MacBook Pro being used to write this but our 2 iPads and 2 iPhones both display much reduced signals that get stronger as we move upstairs.
Can anyone confirm a way to tell if devices are connecting to the wifi signal supposedly being distributed by my ATV?

Thank you. This clarified things for me. I have bought another powerline adaptor and connected this to an airport express unit. I created a new network with the same details as the primary network and then selected bridge mode. Took 5 minutes and everything now works very well.

You must describe your requirements in more details. There is generally nothing special in reading/writing into a database that has UTF-8 (AL32UTF8) as its database character set. Data is read into/written from String variables, which are encoded in UTF-16 by Java design. JDBC transparently converts between UTF-16 and UTF-8.
If you want to output a string into a file in UTF-8 encoding, it is no longer an Oracle problem but a normal Java programming issue. You need to create an appropriate OutputStreamWriter for your FileOutputStream.

Can't install leopard, won't even go to installer.

I installed bootcamp on my mac pro. While playing a game I had a serious crash lead to my keyboard and mouse not being reconized when plugged into the monitor.
I decided to reformat. I removed the bootcamp partion and loaded my osx leopard disk. Rebooted, then it would load the apple load screen, but will never go any further. finally I would get a grey screen and I will say that I need to "reboot either by holding down the button or press the reset button. I have never gotten to the install screen.
I even tried my tiger disk and the same thing happened.
I need help!

I tried the disk in my macbook and it worked fine. Could have installing bootcamp have cause some type of problem?
I am going to try a disk clean to see if the optics are clean, but I just installed xp yesterday and it seemed fine.
I do not suspect the HD, being it is loading from the disk.

Using 2 different GPUs at the same time?

PPro CC 2014's performance with AVCHD files (multiple cameras) is so poor, I'm wondering if it's time to throw 2 GPUs into my workstation and see if that makes a difference.My current rig has a GTX 780 installed and while it was smooth as butter with previous versions of PPro, it seems to not suffice now with PPro CC 2014. I also have 2 older GTX 680, and several GTX 560 (I think) cards stored away.
Instead of forking out another $5-600 for yet another video card, is it possible to get PPro to work with
1) GTX 780
and a
2) GTX 680
in the same computer? If so, can I force PPro to use the 780 for its MPE-related activities, and have the 680 just do the "monitor duties"? (I usually have 2 monitors attached at any given time.)
Or a mix thereof?
Does it HAVE to be 2 of the same GPUs?
Or should I use the 2 x GTX 680 and ditch the GTX 780?
What's your recommended approach, if any?
I want to make it clear that my system was perfectly smooth and worked without an issue with previous versions of PPro, including last year's version. The performance issues only happened since PPro CC 2014.
Common issues are laggy playback, dropped audio, frequent low-memory warnings (ONLY happens while working in PPro). Of course I run memory tests and keep the system clean (no unneeded programs like anti-virus, games, etc.) .

Intel i7 3930K (Hexa core) @ 3.20 Ghz ( performance improvement even if overclocked to 4 Ghz but then it's quite unstable so I usually do not overclock anymore)

Probably quicker to just post over there ... also, I'd suggest searching that forum first. Some of them can be a bit ... testy? ... about those of us who just pop on & ask rather than searching as it may have already been answered in 20 threads. I have troubles with that at times, as the Jive software Adobe uses for some silly reason is about the dumbest one out there in forum-ware for searching. If you don't search exactly as it's been tagged, it will not suggest anything.

You need to talk to the IT people at your college. College ITs can do strange things at times, I know, I work at one (but mine is very good at supporting macs and all things mac).
