Can I prevent a newly loaded SWF to override my main swf's alignment?

Hi. I'm having a main flash with no_scale set to true and align set to TOP. I load a swf, not made by me, which i think it has align set to TOP_LEFT because when i load it everything aligns to TOP_LEFT and looks exactly as my main SWF looks when I align it to TOP_LEFT.
Is anything i'm saying make sense? And is there any way to prevent that aligment from happening? Of course there's always the solution to modify my whole main and adjustment functions to align everything, corectly to the left. But I will love not to resort to that solution.

Imported swfs getting data from main swf

Hi everybody,
I'm struggling shaking my old school AS2 mindset here. I've got a main swf which loads a bunch of subordinate swfs. I need my loaded swfs to see some variables in the main. For instance (example simplified for conversational purposes), let's say I've got a swf loading (we'll say littleSwf), which needs to set its rotation based on a variable (we'll say swfRotation) in the main. The rotation code is inside of the little swf. How does that little swf get told / find out what its rotation number is?
How would I do that? I've tried everything I can think of and done some digging, but apparently not in the right places.

If you are loading the swf into another, chances are you are using a Loader. So the Loader becomes the parent of the loaded swf. And the main swf is the parent of the Loader. So using the more common AS2 mindset, you would want to get any variable in the main swf by targetng the parent.parent... which in AS3 can be done using... MovieClip(parent.parent).
A more OOP correct way of getting the rotation value to the child is to assign it to it from the main swf after it has completed loading the child. To do this you assign a listener to the Loader to determine when the file has been loaded, and then you have the main file target the child thru Loader.content property. You could then have some function in the child that the main calls and passes the rotation value to as an argument, or just have the main file perform the operation on the child using the rotation value if that is suitable.

Loading a sequence of swf files in one main swf

I want to load mutiple swf files in sequence. Should I just repeat
the actionscript?

I have an extensive animation .. A kind of map of Brazil with 33 stores in 4 states distributed .. Clicking on the desired state, it expands and appear their stores. Only the animation and the first store were enough to generate a SWF comporting 3 megabytes .. So I decided to use an external SWF to every single stores, otherwise would be too heavy ..
My goal is: Every shop clicked, loads a new external SWF which occupies the entire screen .. So if I wanted to return to the main SWF with button, how should I proceed?
I have found an article that shows communication between two SWF, however, some steps did not work and I want it to button.
Please, if you know, needs to be in ActionScript 3.

In order to unload content loaded into a Loader object you can use either the unload() method or the unloadAndStop() method. The difference between them is that unloadAndStop() will unload the loaded SWF and try to stop executing any code that it was running including animations, sound and event listeners.
If you wanto to call the unload() or unloadAndStop() methods from the loaded SWF you can use its loaderInfo.loader property to reference the Loader object that loaded it.
It could be someting like this:

protected function handleClose(event:MoueEvent):void {
this.loaderInfo.loader.unloadAndStop();
You can pass a Boolean parameter to unloadAndStop() to indicate if Flash's garbage collector should be run ont the unloaded SWF in order to free up memory. Considering the size of your SWFs, this could be a good option. The downside is that there is a performance penalty and in my professional experience, CPU is still a resource that is more scarce than memory, so use with care.

When I load webpages, they are slow and always waiting for Facebook to load. I don't want Facebook nor any other social media loading unless I go on their site. Can this be blocked?

You can install an addon called Ghostery that disables Facebook Connect and other scripts from running.

Download SWFs to cell, run in main SWF

Hey there people!
We've got a tricky one for you guys, really hope you can help
us out.
We're developing a Flash Lite 2.1 application mainly for cell
phones, and to start off we're testing on a Nokia N73.
The application needs to be able to load SWFs which has been
downloaded alternatively pushed to the phone and saved locally on
the phone.
There seems to be a number of challenges:
1) How can we address a separate SWF locally from a main SWF
on a cell phone?
2) Any suggestions on how to distribute the separate SWFs to
the phone? Push of some sort? Install SIS-file that places the
separate SWFs in correct folder that main SWF can read from?
3) Is it possible to write to an XML file locally on a cell
phone?
4) The application needs to list the separate SWF-files, how
can this be done?

1. you can use loadMovie function to load movies localy. but
you should be using relative paths i.e. more_swfs/new.swf
2. yes, you can make update SIS files with new/updated
content, and install in same folder as the previous install. for
more on update SIS, read the makesis help in the Nokia S60 SDK
3. yes, but using a third-party .exe helper program. but i
would suggest using shareobeject to save your data. SO can save
native AS objects string/number/xml
4. you can do it in two ways, 1) put a list.txt in your sis,
and update sis files with updated list.txt 2) you can create a
sequential loading loop, ie loadVariables("content_" add counter
add ".txt") and check if the content_n.txt loads its data, if
there's no data in last loaded text file, it means that file
doesn't exist. so you should not loadmovie content_n.swf and break
the loop
note: this will show user an error message "unable to load
data", and use can abort/exit the app at this point... so, i will
recomend the 1st one ;)

How can I prevent videos from automatically starting when I load a web site?

Recently web sites have begun not only showing me the first shot of a video, but starting the video automatically when the page loads (or when I scroll down to the part of the page where the video is located). This happens on various news sites (nytimes.com), facebook, and other places. How can I prevent the autostart from happening?
I've got AdBlockPlus and NoScript enabled, although I whitelist many sites in NoScript. Videos used to wait for me to click an arrow in the middle (like a "play" button) to start; some still do, but most don't. (I believe an add-on is responsible for the play button, but I don't recall which one.)
Any suggestions?

The question remains unanswered: How does one prevent unwanted video content from playing automatically on web websites? The problem is most notable on news sites such as ABC News.
It is really, really, really really really, really, really, really really really, really, really, really really really irritating. More irritating, in fact, than when people cut and paste a word a dozen times to emphasize it.

Can't prevent unwanted toolbar from loading in Acrobat Pro 9

I downloaded an evaluation copy of EverMap AutoBookmark plug-in. I prefer not to automatically open toolbars that I don't use regularly when first opening Acrobat, but I can't keep the AutoBookmark toolbars from loading, even if I uncheck those particular toolbars. EverMap support claims that it is a problem in Acrobat. I have also had the same issue with a free plug-in from the Acrobat for Legal Professionals site. Plug-ins work fine, but I can't prevent the toolbars from loading on startup.
Anyone else experience this issue?

Sometimes it is simplest to simply enter the Acrobat folder and move the plugins that are a problem. Just copy then to a backup so you can put them back when you need them. I think that the presence or absence of the plugins is all that Acrobat needs.

Load SWF file in main SWF with parameters

I recently got a new flash Application which is a Photo Gallery.
This App is made of multiple folders (source files), a FLA file, a SWF with its javascript SWFObject and an Html page which instantiate this App with some parameters (size, config file path, ...).
It needs an XML file to find all the Photos it displays, to do it I need to configure my application in the HTML Page and give it the "xml_path" :

I have 2 SWF applications. One is the Gallery, and the second is my Main Page.
My Main Page must integrate the Gallery module in one of its page.

How can I prevent filter from getting applies to .html page?

I have a MyFaces filter that I don't want applied to pages ending in ".html". However, upon visiting the "/myapp/index.html" page of my application, I get an internal server error, and the stack trace indicates that the filter is being invoked. How can I prevent such a filter from being applied to ".html" pages? The stack trace and the web.xml file are below.

How can I prevent Firefox from re-installing test pilot?

I had removed the test pilot extension and its feedback button in Firefox 4.0b9. I let Firefox upgrade itself to 4.0b10 and didn't notice that silently re-installed it.
I was typing in another application when suddenly that window was minimized and the focus shifted to a Firefox "new test pilot study" window that popped up. Even if I had given permission for that software to be installed, that is rude.
I am not willing to trust that if I disable this logging software that it will stay disabled the next time I upgrade. I will remove test pilot again. '''How can I prevent Firefox from re-installing it?'''
One way might be to set extensions.rdf read-only. However, I do not wish to lose the ability to install add-ons, I merely do not want anybody (including Mozilla) to install an add-on without my permission.

Its not a plug-in so I can't modify the plugin scanning settings to prevent it from being loaded. I'm not sure what you mean by "re-directs e-mails." Are the recipient addresses changing between the time you address the message and the time it is sent?
If you could provide more information I think that would help in tracking this down.
When you use Firefox to work with your webmail site, whether Yahoo! or Gmail or another, the mechanics of sending the mail are handled by the site itself. So if there is a problem with how messages are addressed, then you may need to check your Yahoo! mail settings.

Is there a way to prevent Mail from loading non system fonts?

For over a year, and a system OS upgrade, Mail has been taking 7 - 10 minutes to load all the thousands of fonts I have on my computer for graphic design. This started with Snow Leopard on my 2009 Mac Pro (10 GB RAM, 2 TB HDD). At first I didn't know why the computer was taking such a long time to finish boot up. So I reformatted the drive--zeroing it out. Then I installed Mavericks and reinstalled everything else. Finally I tried logging the system activity during startup and noticed that something to do with fonts took up the biggest chunk of this time. Because Mavericks loads any programs you leave running at shut down, I saw that if Mail had the fonts window open, the list of fonts would slowly grow, filling up with the many font families I use for my work. I called tech support for my font management utility but they say the fonts are not in the system and and shouldn't affect the system during startup. In the end I gave up and just go drink a few coffees after hitting the start button. It's like going back to the early days 25 years ago.
Can I stop Mail from loading any non-system fonts? I never use anything but the default font.

Since it might be problematic to have to disable each font individually, you can create a collection of fonts and disable the collection. See the article for how to create a font collection -

When working with fonts, you may discover that you use certain fonts frequently, but rarely use others. To make it easier to find the font you are looking for, you can organize your fonts into collections.
From the Font Book File menu, choose New Collection.

How to prevent images from loading?

I am working on creating a web gallery in Dreamweaver CS3. The thumbnails are in a horizontal strip within a layer above the full sized image layer, in other words the strip is hiding part of the image, but only when the image is in a vertical orientation. (the strip has no background, so all that is visible are the actual thumbnails) Upon clicking show/hide text , in a toggle configuration, the strip fades, or shows. On my computer it works perfectly. However, once uploaded, it takes forever to load the images.
The problem: Although I have the thumbnail images are set to preload, all of the full size images are loading as well, which takes alot of time. Is there a way to prevent the full sized images from loading, i.e. only when the thumbnail is clicked?
Frames, in which one frame is thumbnails, and another the is images, is what I normally would use, and have a page for each image. However, for what I have in mind, it will not work (transparency on parts of one frame above another is as far as I can tell not possible).
So how do I prevent images from loading until called for? regards~bill-o

t would help if you posted a link to the page, but I can guess that you have properly diagnosed the cause - the page is encumbered with the weight of all of the full-sized images.
The only way to not have this happen would be to dynamically write the link to the full sized-images on demand, as it were. In other words, the link ISN'T EVEN ON THE PAGE until you have clicked on the corresponding thumbnail, and only at that point is the weight of that image experienced. One easy way to do this is to use the SetText of Container behavior that is part of DW's native arsenal of behaviors. When the thumb is clicked, the SetText behavior is called to write the image link into the enlarged image's container. Need to see a demo? Look here -

The behavior is called "Set Text of Container", and using it will meet all of your requirements.
To use it, you will have to have the following:
1. A page with a 'container' which is to receive the enlarged image - this could be a table cell, a paragraph tag, a div, or even a span tag.
2. That container will have to be identified with an ID attribute and a valid value, e.g., <div id="enlargedImage">.
3. A dummy page containing each enlarged image, placed sequentially on the page.
To implement the effect, do the following:
1. Open the dummy page in Code view, and select the first image's tag, e.g., <img src="images/foo.jpg" width="123" height="256" alt="whatever" /> (XHTML syntax shown here).
2. Switch to the actual page, select a thumb that will 'open' this enlarged image, and enter "javascript:;" (that's colon semicolon) in the 'Link' field of the Property inspector to make this thumbnail image a null link.
3. Apply the Set Text of Container behavior.
4. Paste the clipboard into the dialog for the behavior, and click OK to close the dialog.
5. Examine the Behavior panel to see which mouse event has been defaulted - probably 'onclick'. If you would rather have this be 'onmouseover' use the Behavior panel Event selector (the dark triangle to the right of the event name) to select 'onmouseover'.
5. Repeat from #1 above until all thumbs have been treated.

How may load an external html file in swf? such as google.com in a movieclip.
anyone may help me.........????????

With Flash, you can't do this.
Just with FlashBuilder and Air (something like HTMLLoader , not sure now)
I mean loading in a movieclip..
Of course you can open a page to display in a browser.

Can I prevent a newly loaded SWF to override my main swf's alignment?
