Can I prevent recovery of iPad/iPhone software by a password?
Hi,
I want to secure the recory option in iTunes on iPad and iPhone bij a password. Is this possible?
Hi:
The four digit lock code (I use one as well) prevents anyone except the password holder from using an iPad (or, I guess, iPhone as well). My iPad is set to lock automatically when I put it to sleep.
The iTunes store and the App store both require a password to access that content.
Of course, if the person that possesses the lock code and the password, that person can do anything they choose.
In my own case, I am the only person that has both of mine.
When I connect my iPad to my iMac, it automatically accesses the iTunes store, but it also has my passwords to compare.
This response is convoluted, but I don't think anyone without the codes/passwords could do anything.

Hi! I have an iPhone 4S with iOS 6.1.3 and I have iTunes 11.1.3.8. on my Windows 8. Now I can't sync my iPhone, because the device is not recognised by iTunes. Somebody have any idea why, or what can I do (except refresh the iPhone software) ?
Hi Drazse,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone is not recognized by iTunes for Windows, the troubleshooting steps in this article may help:

why every time when im going to install games that cannot be installed and asking for newest version of iphone software, how can i upgrade newest version of iphone software?
Plug your phone into your computer running iTunes. Click on the phone in the left pane of iTunes. Click the "Check for Updates" button on the right.
If you have a 3G, the highest you can go is 4.2.1. -

How can i get into my ipad when i forgot my password?
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. -

Ipad/iphone software update fail on MacBook Pro
Apologies in advance that this will be a bit convoluted. I Try to keep it concise.
I am trying to update my iPhone/iPad to latest software version 4.3.3. This works fine on my MacBook Air, but not on my MacBook Pro (First i& version, early 2010).
I phoned Mac support and been through all their check lists (Transfer purchases, backup, sync, turn off firewall, etc.). I have used disk repair, cocktail and Clean-my-Mac. I have removed everything form the startup menu in the admin account (which I am using) and have disabled/removed all security software.
I am still getting the following error message, after itunes has gone through extracting the software and syncing the device:
"The iPhone "xxx" cannot be updated at this time because the iPhone software server could not be contacted or is temporaily unavailable." (see shot below).
As I am using the same wireless router/network connection for the MacBook Air (which as I said updates fine), it is not likely to caused by router settings, but rather something on the MacBook Pro. As I uses it as my main machine and where i keep my Itunes library, I would like to be able to perform the software updates for the iDevices from there.
Has anyone had the same problem, and possibly a solution. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Rebane
This was first posted on MacBook Pro forum, but it was suggested the me to repost it in both the iphone and ipad forum; apologies if this leads to duplicationThanks Nick,
I will try this now.
Any idea though what would the MacBook Pro prevent the auto update, when the MacBook Air has no issues whatsoever. I want to avoid reinstalling the OS, maybe a re-install of iTunes might help.
Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers,

If you've forgotten your passcode, then if you connect it to the computer that you normally sync to you should be be to reset the device and then re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

Your iPad cannot be upgraded. See:
See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

How can I prevent **** emails in my iphone?
I have been receiving filthy emails daily on my email client (btinternet.com). I have spoken to BT and they can only help me as regards webmail. As these mails are not from the same source and each has to be blocked, it is taking me a long time to delete them from source webmail. Is there nothing I can use/or an app I can download that will take care of these on my iphone 4s like Norton does on my Outlook on my laptop?
I would appreciate finding a solution please. The email client on the iPhone has not spam filters. If your email provider doesn't offer email filtering from the server, you'll need to get a different provider. I find that Gmail's spam filters are excellent. I rarely receive spam in any inbox on any device using Gmail. You might also search the App Store for other email apps. Some of them may offer filtering.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

Can you prevent the use of consecutive numbers in a password, using Group Policy?
The regular old password complexity requirements disallow the use of 3 consecutive characters that appear in the user's account name / display name, but does not prevent the use of consecutive numbers at all. For example, a user can have a password including
the string "12345". We have the need to disallow this via GP in order to make our passwords compatible with an outside service to which we would like to synchronize. I see no way to do this with the typical Password Policy settings. Anyone out
there have any hints as to how I might accomplish this?

You need a custom password filter dll on your DCs:
