Can I read Windows OS properties in LabVIEW (ex: Is monitor in power save mode?)

Is it possible to read any properties from windows OS.  I would like my code to know if the monitor is in power save mode or not.
I am using a touch panel and after the screen goes blank (power save mode), I don't want the user to accidentally push the wrong button (since he cannot see them).  The user has to touch the screen once to waken it up.  As far as I know there is no way for me to disable the touch screen while in power save mode so I wanted to try and disable the buttons when the screen is in power save mode.
Thanks,
   Javier

Look here.  At a bare minimum, it loks like you need DevicePowerEnumDevices and GetDevicePowerState.

  • How can I read the trace data into LabVIEW for E5071B

    HI
    I am setting up the measurement using vector network analyzer (VNA) E5071B controlled by NI 488.2. How can I read the trace data into LabVIEW and display on the graph? If anyone having an idea or know well about this process please give me the suggestion, I will much appreciate it.
    Many Thanks

    You want to start with the driver
     In case you do not know it, you can do the driver search in LabVIEW from Tools>Instrumentation>Find Instrument Drivers. You might also want to bookmark the Instrument Driver Network for information on what a driver is and how to use it.

  • Read Windows System properties

    Hi ,
    i want to read the some properties in windows 2000 from java,

    It's actually more than twice. Maybe somebody sneaked in and used your computer when you weren't watching. But in reference to the about 6 times you have asked this question, here's how it seems to work around here. If you don't get an answer, then either your question is too unclear to understand or there is no answer. Your question is perfectly clear. So the conclusion should be obvious.

    You can't fix it and HP techs say that a fix is in the works, but they have been saying that for over 1 year.   Some folks say to depress the 1 key and it works for them, but most folks, including me, say that does not work.

  • How do read  windows file properties?

    I want to be able to read the size of the file on disk - no the size of the file using file.length() which only gives the size of the file in bytes. also i want to be able to read anyother info that the os is keeping on a file. so, how can i do this? where does windows store property info. fi hope you can help.

    This might work. Copy the following into wordpad and save the folowing as text in the location C:\Windows\.hotjava\ named properties, no extension:

  • How can I read windows comments in a JPEG file on my iMac

    I have 120, 000 photos, many with comments added in Windows Explorer, but while they are somewhere in the file data, they are not in ASCII coding so I cannot find any easy way to read them on my iMAC.  At the moment I have to use my Windows PC to read the comments while building slide shows on the iMac, which is not ideal.
    The Ideal solution would be a patch for Finder so that this data showed in the comments pane of the info window, but I expect that is asking to much.While I am on the subject of Finder, I also miss the ability to sort photos by 'Date Taken' which I cannot see any way to do in Finder.

    Thanks Terence,
    I found a piece of software called 'Reveal' in a related answer and using that I can see that the Windows Comments and Tags (Mac keywords) are in the EXIF metadata, with Tags 0x9c9c and 0x9c9e respectively.  Reveal shows the ASCII values of the characters, and I now remember writing a Visual Basic programme about 15 years ago just for my own amusement that unpacked this data and made it readable.  I seem to remember that there were also C++ routines at that time that purported to do the same thing, but I did not have a C++ compiler.
    I take your  point about the editors, but I am new to the iMAC and still have a lot to learn.  I essentially have three new photo editors/organisers (iPhoto, Adobe Lightroom,  and Aperture) to learn plus Adobe Photoshop Elements in it's MAC guise,  and I am not prepared to use them seriously until I understand what they are doing. In the past I have not found any of the organisers able to cope with the number of pictures that I have - they just go away and huff and puff for hours or days  before crashing, if I let them lose on the complete set.
    Thanks for your help though.

  • How can i read comments from properties file in the right order??

    Hello
    I want to build a console that read a properties file and print to the screen the property name, property value and property description and the developer can change the name or the value or the description of the property and update the property file.
    But the problem in using the properties class that it doesnt read the comment and not save the properties in their order so I cant couple description and name of the property.
    Does any one know any utility that do the job or know how to solve the reading the comments problem???
    Thank you a lot?

    sorry but i dont understand how the solution of using
    a dot ( property_key.description ) helping me to
    solve the problem?
    please try to explain it agin.

    So i'm as developer imagine that somebody edit properties in GUI or console. So you have 3 text fields: property name, property value, and propety description. Then developer save edit changes, then text fields maped to properties file and:
    text field "property name" and text field "property value" construct property:
    name=valuetext field "property name" adding ".description" and text field "property description" construct property:
    name.description=descriptionFor one described property, you will have put two properties.
    Thanks!

  • Why can I read from my instruments in LabView only when NI Spy is open?

    This is a recurring problem, but I hope someone has an idea of what may be causing it. I have two older (c. 1992) instruments that we use for simple measurements. One is a Newport PMC-400 actuator driver/motion controller, the other is a EG&G/Princeton Applied Research 5302 lock-in amplifier. I am using Labview 6i with a PCI-GPIB card.
    The instruments themselves work fine, and seem to run somewhat reliably if NI-Spy is open. However, if we close NI-Spy, the GPIB seems to "lock up" and time out, requiring resets of all the instruments. This seems to be something related to either command termination or timing.
    Any thoughts/hints/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi JFoley,
    The reason this happens is usually related to the instrument! Certain older instruments communicate with the GPIB board in such a way that they indicate that they are able to receive data before they really are. This was a nice trick back in the day when computers were slower, and it could get away with lying about its state as it would make the instrument look faster than it was! With the faster computers of today it throws off the bus timing and can cause problems.
    You may be able to resolve the timing problems, either by introducing delays between GPIB commands, or by changing the GPIB bus timing to the slowest setting (in the GPIB Configuration Utility). The first option is usually successful, but the second option is less effective becau
    se it only affects the time that the GPIB controller waits before valid data is on the bus and the DAV line is asserted (a step in the GPIB handshaking that occurs each time a byte of information is sent to the device).
    Hope this helps out!

  • Boot Camp can't read Windows 7 download off of burnt disc

    Hi Everyone,
    My uncle just downloaded Win7 and burned it onto a disc for me. (Yes it's authentic, I've got the code and everything.) I went into bootcamp and partitioned the drive, then inserted the Win7 and clicked "start installation". It started spinning the disc and then said it could not find disc. Tryed it a couple of times nothing, cleaned the disc, still nothing. I've searched all over the web and cannot find an answer. BTW I have the new MBP 15" intel core i5 processor, 320 gb. Thank you all in advance.
    Have a great day/night.

  • How can I enable Windows Explorer (Windows 7 64 bit) to open LabView 8.2.1 LLB files?

    How can I enable Windows Explorer to open LabView LLB files? I am running LabView 8.2.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. The option “Enable Windows Explorer for LLB Files” in Tools/Options/Environment is unchecked and grayed out.

    LabVIEW until 7.1 came with a shell extension that could display the content of an LLB in an explorer window.
    That was removed in LabVIEW 8.x for  a number of reasons.
    - Shell extensions are pretty badly documented, tricky to implement right, and of very limited use since only Windows Explorer and a few explorer replacements can use them. It doesn't add any functionality for most other programs in Windows, since the shell extension are a Windows Explorer thing, and not a Windows core technology.
    - With 8.x NI decided that LLBs were pretty old fashioned and their main feature of supporting file names longer than the DOS 8.3 naming was pretty much obsoleted by then, while they didn't allow for more than one level of directory hierarchy. So they decided to depreciate LLBs and declared them a legacy technology that should not be used for new development anymore.
    - For the uupcoming 64 bit version of Windows a new shell extension would have been required to allow Explorer to use it.
    For all these reasons the LLB shell extension was removed from the LabVIEW installation to further discourage the use of LLBs.
    If you have a LabVIEW 7.0 or 7.1 installation on your computer and run 32 Bit Windows you can enable the shell extension in the LabVIEW Options dialog.

    I can't figure out what exactly you're trying do to but just in case... you may simulate a right click using java.awt.Robot class.

  • Oops. Can I read my byte stream files with missing headers?

    My fault, I know, but I wrote out an 1D array of numbers to a file using the simple Write File vi, not realising that a header would have been a good idea at the time. Now I can't read them back in because LabVIEW doesn't know what they are, and trying to put the original array element (Dbl Precision Number) on the Byte Stream Type of Read File doesn't work.
    So, is there any way that I can insert an appropriate header back into the beginning of the file so that I can then read them in successfully?
    (No, unfortunately I can't regenerate the data. Believe me, I would if I could!)
    Thanks,
    Riggy

    I suppose you used the Write File function from the File I/O pallette since there is no Write File VI?
    If that is the case your file should be exactly 8*N bytes long, if the array had N elements of type DBL.
    You can simply read back you data with the 'Read characters from File' VI (from the File I/O pallette) and then typecast the read string to a 1D array of DBL. (typecast is the first icon in the 'Advanced--Data Manipulation' pallette.

  • Read TIF image properties

    How can I read all the properties of TIFF like "SUMMARY", "TITLE" , "AUTHOR" etc.... which are actually seen when you RIGHT CLICK on the image?????
    Also some of the images have additional custom tab named "imagedetails" which should also be read programmatically.
    This custom tab is not normally displayed on right click. It is displayed when I install "eistream" imaging s/w.
    I have seen java imaging api's but could not find which tag could read the right click properties of TIFF image.
    Please suggest the right API for obtaining the right click properties of TIFF image file.

    I am still getting problems here, but I don't know that my imagereader is correct.
    public class Test {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              File in = new File("te.tif");
              ImageReader reader = (ImageReader)ImageIO.getImageReadersByFormatName("tif").next();
              System.out.println("Found reader " + reader);
              ImageInputStream iis = new FileImageInputStream(in);
              reader.setInput(iis);
              System.out.println(in + " contains " + reader.getNumImages(true) + "pages");
              IIOImage iimage = reader.readAll(0, new ImageReadParam());
              IIOMetadata imageMetadata = reader.getImageMetadata(0);
              //Get the IFD (Image File Directory) which is the root of all the tags
              //for this image. From here we can get all the tags in the image.
              TIFFDirectory ifd = TIFFDirectory.createFromMetadata(imageMetadata);
              TIFFField allFields = ifd.getTIFFField();
              for (int i = 0; i < allFields.length; i++) {
                   TIFFField field = allFields;
                   String name = field.getTag().getName();
                   int number = field.getTagNumber();
                   String type = TIFFField.getTypeName(field.getType());
                   String value = field.getValueAsString(0);
                   System.out.println("- " + name + ", " + number + ", " + type + ", " + value);

  • Reader window jumps between monitors

    I'm running Reader 9.5.1  on Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon. I have dual monitors setup as single X screen with the Nouveau driver. If I have Adobe Reader open on the right-hand monitor, and I open a PDF file, the Adobe Reader window jumps back to the left-hand monitor as the file is opened. This happens regardless of whether I open the file by using the File / Open menu in Acroread or by right-clicking on a PDF in Nautilus and choosing "Open with Adobe Reader".
    This gets highly annoying, and it doesn't happen with any other application that I use - I can put any of them on the RH monitor and open files without the application moving. Anyone know why it happens or how to fix it?

    I do the exact same thing but I have no problem.
    You should post some code.
