Read Windows System properties
Hi ,
i want to read the some properties in windows 2000 from java,
If u go to
control panel - System - hardware - Device manager - port - COM1 then right click on it and see the properties, and click the Port Settings.
I want to read the bits per second from there.
Ashish
It's actually more than twice. Maybe somebody sneaked in and used your computer when you weren't watching. But in reference to the about 6 times you have asked this question, here's how it seems to work around here. If you don't get an answer, then either your question is too unclear to understand or there is no answer. Your question is perfectly clear. So the conclusion should be obvious.

Reading locale system properties like set-variables of a windows Client
Hello,
is there a possibility to read locale system properties like set-variables of a windows Client?
We want to read path-Info and user-info. Can I perhaps user javascript?
Best regards
Oliver ProdingerHi Oliver,
This code will work (assuming the client approves running of ActiveX)
<html>
<script>
var shell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");
var env = shell.Environment("process");
alert(env("COMPUTERNAME"));
alert(env("USERNAME"));
</script>
</html>
You can't really run it from WD, but what you can do is run this code from a portal component (DynPage/JspDynPage) that is running in the same page as your WD application and pass data by using portal eventing.
The portal component iview can have size of 1 pixel so it won't be seen...

How do read windows file properties?
I want to be able to read the size of the file on disk - no the size of the file using file.length() which only gives the size of the file in bytes. also i want to be able to read anyother info that the os is keeping on a file. so, how can i do this? where does windows store property info. fi hope you can help.
This might work. Copy the following into wordpad and save the folowing as text in the location C:\Windows\.hotjava\ named properties, no extension:
#AppletViewer

Is it possible to read any properties from windows OS. I would like my code to know if the monitor is in power save mode or not.
I am using a touch panel and after the screen goes blank (power save mode), I don't want the user to accidentally push the wrong button (since he cannot see them). The user has to touch the screen once to waken it up. As far as I know there is no way for me to disable the touch screen while in power save mode so I wanted to try and disable the buttons when the screen is in power save mode.
Thanks,
JavierLook here. At a bare minimum, it loks like you need DevicePowerEnumDevices and GetDevicePowerState.

Is it possible through labview to set and read window¿s based file properties?
Any file in XP operating system has file properties associated with it, such as, size, location, when the file was created, modified and last accessed. I know that Labview has the ability to access the size and modified property. Other file types such as image format types jpg, bmp and tif have additional associated properties such as: title, subject, author, and comments. Is it possible through labview to read and set these properties programmatically?

Well, you can most probably do that by calling Windows API functions.
Note however that the properties you mention are not generic Windows
file properties but file specific internal attributes. Explorer does at
least in XP handle some of those properties and shows them to the user
but does so with internal file type handlers to extract the properties
from the file.
I'm not sure those file type handlers are actually available for other
applications than Explorer without quite some work. If they are
available they are certainly not part of the standard Win32 API but most
probably part of the Windows shell component and I would guess not just
through normal API function calls, but through the shell namespace
enumeration, which is built on COM interfaces, something you only can
call from standard programming languages, most of them are done in C++
(and if you are a little more persistant in standard C).
So you are likely to need to either write your own DLL doing the nitty
gritty work of calling the shell interface and using that DLL in LabVIEW
or find an Active X component which does the work for you. No doubt
there is such an Active X component somewhere but how good and expensive
is always a big question.

assistance dialog box in system properties-> under the remote tab but as i said i can not see my remote desktop settings.
Plz help.....
Thanks in advance!Hi,
First, please try the SFC command to check if you any corrupted system files:
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on
Windows 7
If this issue persists, it is recommended to perform system restore to get back to a previous time point to check what the result is:
System Restore - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows
Hope it helps.

Where do I read in the documentation the list of the system properties?
Yep. Sounds stupid. But it's true. I read in all these forums where and how to set the truststore and so on but it would be beautiful to understand it my own.
1. First I read setting the -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore in the VM arguments.
2. Then I find out the the -D is just for setting something like a static property.
3. Next I want to read about the system properties. Who, what and where the Java tries to get this system property. I do not find it.
What I find is great help in these forums and solving this kind of problems seems easy... I googled and the only place I found info about this is in a boulder.ibm.com site:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzaha/sysprop2.htm
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzaha/rzahajssesysprops.htm
I also found some info on a sun tutorial but not an official documentation. Do you know where to find it? It seems that my learning is always about finding the right place to find information and not guessing and trying.
Thanks!!Thanks for your soon reply. Yeah, I found that but I really was expecting a more serious documentation.
I have to admit that it is documented. Yes. But I didn't expect to find that in middle of a guide. But more in a reference or in a specification document. It's inside the "Customization" and in a table, yes... But it's a guide!!
I like Java but something to worry about is the "too many - too less" documentation. Documentation is not clear enough and all the hundreds of options you have can make the programming with Java no good. It would sound like a good thing have a lot of choices and hundreds of places to look info for but I am a bit disappointed with that. It's not clear enough to find the right info.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help!! I will have to live with that.

create a restore point.Hi,
Please check if you enable the following policies:
Open Local Computer Policy, expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand System, and then click System Restore.

RAM not showing up in system properties
I have 3GB installed on my OLD Windows XP
I have noticed lately that when I checked my System Properties it only says 2GB.
But HWINFO32 shows 3GB
I ran memtest86 to see if my ram was failing but it passed.
Any ideas on why it only shows 2GB.
I have an Nvidia 9800 1024MB graphics card if for some reason that is subtracting from my total.
Thanks: GLennI have saved the DXDIAG file and uploaded it.
Does anyone think I should replace the CMOS battery ?
I have not had any problems with my time not working or it turning off and no warnings ?
Also, I have ordered 4 new 1GB Ram sticks so they are all the same speed.
My 2 512's are the slowest and the new ones will be faster then the 2 1GB ones I have there now.
I will pick up a can of air and clean out the unit too since its been over a year since I dusted it off.
Thanks: GLenn
I will paste the info below too.

HD Controller Error in System Properties
Hello,
Under system properties--hard disk controllers I have 3 entries: Primary IDE Controller (single fifo), Secondary IDE controller (single fifo), and Duel PCI IDE Controller.
The primary and secondary IDE controller entries have exclamation marks next to them noting that they are not working corectly.
My 2 hard disk drives do not show under the disk drive entry due to the controller "errors".
What IDE drivers should I use to fix this problem. Since I cannot access the hard drives I cannot turn on DMA support.
Thanks for the help!Quote

Does NVIDIA have any NF2 IDE drivers?
Thanks
Can your machine read CDs? There may be drivers for your IDE controllers under Windows ME on the CD that came with your motherboard.
Caveat: I am speaking from experience with EPoX and ASUS motherboards; I am fairly new to MSIs, but I would expect they would have the same sort of drivers available.

Is there a way to read the system DoubleClickTime double-click%3F
Hi,
I'm doing some customized actions on a tree if a user "slow-double-clicks" on a valid tag in the tree. My current solution works, but I would like to set the "limit" or interpretation of what constitutes a "slow" double-click based on the system DoubleClickTime setting of the system that the program is running on.. Anyone knows how to read this piece of information on a) windows system or b) any system?
Please note that due to what I'm trying to accomplish, I cannot use the "double-click" event to make this determination. (Double-clicks are left alone to do whatever they would normally do.)
Microsoft MSDN on Double-clicks
--I guess a more general form of the question would be "how to read out windows system settings in LabVIEW".
For the specially interested, my program is an event driven queue machine. When I get a mouse up on the tree-control, I pass the ms timer to an action engine (get, set, re-set) which tracks delta time between two clicks and passes out an enum of "click type" (as defined by me) as either n/a, single, double, slow double.
In my queue handler loop, I take the click message (from event loop), do some basic checks (is tag of the tree coordinate location empty string?) and pass it all along to another state that determines what to do based on click type, parent(s) (or indent level) and column. The need for this "slow-click" feature came about when I needed to let the user re-name a parent level tag-item.. If you double-click normally on a parent, it will expand or collapse its children list. . In some applications, (windows explorer for example), the default double-click action (open the file) can be "changed" to a "rename" function by clicking a little slower. Clicking too slow will be interpreted as a "single" click (e.g. select).

CLD LabVIEW 7.1 to 2013How about now?
The clue is in tst's post above, its under .net, windows.forms http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.forms.systeminformation.doubleclicktime.aspx

NO java control panel in windows system control window
Hello together,
there seems to be a bug/feature (?) not allowing me to use the plugin functionality of my J2EEsdk-1_4
Situation:
Before i installed the J2EE i had an already installed java plug-in 1_4_2 working fine on
my Laptop giving my ms explorer 6.0 the Java VM needed. To avoid conflicts, i deinstalled
this plug-in, before i installed the J2EE 1_4_2. The result was disapointing.
There was NO java control panel in the windows2000 system control window after installing J2EE.
There was no corresponding registration key in the registry anymore.
Additionally there was no java related entrance to be seen anymore in the advanced internet and
security options of my ms explorer 6.0.
i have have found several trouble reports mentioned similar problems during the last months but unluckily
no solution working for me.
i did several tests with different java packages i downloaded today to get the actual versions
First:
i deinstalled the J2EE (not to get version conflicts) and installed the Java Plug-in 1.4.2 again.
This was proposed from ms explorer, when i tried to open an internet page with javaplugins included.
This plugin worked fine again. I could see and use the java panel and it enabled
my explorer to use the java plugin.
Second:
i deinstalled the Java Plugin and installed the J2sdk_1_4_2 instead.
The java plugin which is part of this package also worked fine.
Third:
i deinstalled the J2sdk_1_4_2 and installed the J2EEsdk-1_4-windows.exe.
the same misbehaviour as mentioned before. No java panel icon can be seen
in the windows system control, now registration......
as a workaround i have installed now both, the J2eesdk (i want to learn about)
and some additonal 100 MB java plug-in to enable my MS explorer to display
java applets again.
This is working fine again, but i really would prefer to have no need for two JREs.
By the way:
When i first opened the java control panel of the Plug-in and deactivated the update
mechanism , this plugin got really angry immedialtely afterwards. As a result my
laptop rebooted without coming up again. i had to initiate another hard reboot to get
windows back
i really would like to know , whats wrong me or the J2ee and i apriciate
any hint.
Best regards: yours aspirantOne thing you could do if you by all means want to have only one single copy of 1.4.2 on your system is to install standalone J2SE 1.4.2 (this will accomodate your Java console and browser plugin requirements) and then install Application Server only distribution (on the download page this is referred to as "Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8") and sample applications set ("J2EE 1.4 SDK Samples "). In this way you get full content you would get in J2EE 1.4 SDK and all the benefits of standalone J2SE 1.4.2 installation.
This is obviously more convoluted at installation time since there are 3 separate things to install, but it would seem to fit your requirements.
Hope this helps... -
Trying to Create a Catalog file using WSIM (Windows System Image Manager)
I have been looking online for a solution to htis problem for days and come up with nothing so any help would be amazingly helpful.
I have created a Windows 8.1 image which I would like to role out to all users within my company but when trying to create a catalog file I am getting an erorr message saying "Windows SIM was unable to generate a catalog." It says "Mounting
Windows Image file......This might take a few minutes" and then fails after 6-7mins.
When opening the log file I get this:

In order to generate a catalog file, you must have read/write access to the Windows image file and its containing folder.

The one image that did work (LiteTouchPE_x64.wim) was from the OS I imported to Microsoft Workbench but the components are different to any that I have seen online when looking on how to do this.
I have made sure that the architecture is x64 and tried from ISO files I have on the system already but get the same error.
This is the first project I have been involved in and only ever done IT support before this.
Thanks for your help in advance.Yes I am trying to capture a reference image that I have created on another machine and then reploy this through MDT. I am trying to open the Unattend.xml file because the "Capture and Sysprep" fails on the reference machine when trying to run
Sysprep. When I try to open the Unattend.xml file in MDT I get the error below:
