Can I run iPhoto in Snow Leopard 10.5.8?

I am a novice Apple user and have just acquired a used iMac 7,1.  There are many confusing (to me) discussions regarding this issue.
Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Terry

You should be fine. Here are the minimum requirements for iLife Suite
Hardware
-Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor.
-iMovie requires an Intel-based Mac, Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster).
-GarageBand Learn to Play requires an Intel-based Mac with a dual-core processor or better.
-512MB of RAM; 1GB recommended. High-definition video requires at least 1GB of RAM.
-Approximately 4GB of available disk space.
-DVD drive required for installation.
Software
-Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later.
-QuickTime 7.5.5 or later (included).

Alternatively, partition your internal HD and dual-boot it. Do note that you have to reboot to switch back and forth. You can't do it by logging out and back in.

  • Can I run Tiger and Snow leopard on a new macbook pro 15"

    Hi

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Snow Leopard will run CS2 with some limitations.

Either find a Mac older than October 26, 2007 you can use until you can bring all your software to Snow Leopard compatibility from these sites*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
Or find an alternative application for the functions you need from the first link that is Snow Leopard compatible if you can use that.

  • IPhoto for Snow Leopard?

I'm selling my '07 Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard to a family member. They want iPhoto, but I can't buy it from the App Store because the latest one (iPhoto '11) is not compatible with Snow Leopard. I tried buying Mountain Lion, but that OS is not compatible with my computer.
Any thoughts how I can get iPhoto on this computer without buying an old version second-hand? This computer still has great life in it, but according to Apple it is obsolete. I guess it wasn't worth $2,499.00 after all.

There isn't any version of iPhoto on this computer because it has been wiped and a fresh OS installed. (All of my Apps and data are on my new computer). iPhoto doesn't come standard as part of Snow Leopard OS, which is merely 3 years old. I can install a very OLD iPhoto (probably 6) that I have, but that is not ideal. Or I could find version 8 or 9 that works with Snow Leopard so my sister can use it. Here is my sister's scenario... Husband has recent Macbook Pro with latest iPhoto. Sister wants her own Mac (uses PC primarily for work) and they want to share same iPhoto Libraries on networked drive. BUT.... Sister has no way to access iPhoto Library from latest version because she cannot install latest version of iPhoto on her used computer, which still runs great with Snow Leopard.
By the way, I had purchased iPhoto '11 (version 9.2.1) in December 2011 and installed it FINE on this Snow Leopard computer. Now, suddenly, 9.3.2 cannot be installed on this same computer. If I login to the App Store, it wants to install 9.3.2 instead of 9.2.1 (which I purchased). VERY frustrating. The lifecycle of Apple's hardware and software is becoming increasingly short (and expensive!)

  • Appropriate iPhoto for Snow Leopard?

I primarily use Snow Leopard, OS X 10.6.8.  I'd like to use iPhoto but can't - trying to launch iPhoto 9.4.2 tells me that I need os 10.4 and above, and trying to use iPhoto 8.1.2 tells me that there is a problem and then shows lots of diagnostic information.  Some where  in the discussions I learned that I need iPhoto 9.2.3.  So, I went to the App store and searched for iPhoto 9.2.3 and got no results.  So, two questions:  is iPhoto the appropriate iPhoto for Snow Leopard?  If so, where can I get it?

I'm sorry but I'm not clear on what version of the OS you actually have.
With 10.6.8 you can go to iPhoto v9.3.2 - to get that you'll need to purchase an iLife 11 install disk. The App Store only has the latest version, (v9.4.2) which only runs on 10.7.5 or later.

  • How far can I upgrade OS from Snow Leopard before Adobe CS2 goes in the toilet?

I have OSX 10.6.8 but I am getting messages from websites that my version of Safari is too old. So I thinking of updating as far as I can without having to buy all new software. And I really don't want to go up in a cloud if I can help it.
I realize I may have to install more ram - my EMC 2118 iMac has only 1 GB of memory. Plus, that would make my iMac faster too, correct?
On the other hand, maybe you can recommend another browser that would work.
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate this help forum.

I believe you will find that CS2 won't run or won't run well past Snow Leopard.
You need 2 GBs of RAM above Snow Leopard along with a Core Duo processor. Adding memory will not make the computer run faster.
    Try Firefox.

  • Is it possible to run Tiger in Snow Leopard using Parallels?

    Hey All,
Anyone know if it is possible to run Tiger in Snow Leopard using Parallels?
I am using SPSS 16 and it is not compatible with snow leopard. A temporary fix right now if I partitioned my hard drive and installed Leopard on some extra space to run SPSS. This is kind of annoying because I only need Leopard to use SPSS. I would rather emulate it so I can listen to iTunes and check my email in SL.
What about Panther? I think I even have a copy of Panther to install in Parallels?
I read somewhere that the EULA restricts OS X from being emulated, which seems odd for Mac users who need to test or use old software. I understand though about emulating OS X on windows machine though. I guess they need to blow off the whole foot than just cut off one toe.
    Thanks for the thoughts!

From what I can tell, doing this would be, at best, of dubious legality.
Even so, the popular opinion seems to be that it would take some degree of hacking to pull off a virtual machine running OS X. I think that unless you are willing and able to undertake such a task, your best bet is to stick with a partition running an old version or wait for SPSS to be updated for Snow Leopard.
Although...... I have Parallels 4 (current version is 5) and it has an option, when setting up a new Virtual Machine, to install Mac OS X server (see image linked below). Perhaps if you could get a copy of the server edition of the OS you would have more success?

  • Two identical XServes, both running 10.6 Snow leopard..

On;y one will update to 10.6.2.
The one stuck at 10.6 doesn't see the 10.6.2 update in SW Updates. I tried downloading the installer manually and it says "This volume does not meet the requirement for this update"...
    Thoughts??
    Thanks

    Saw that on one box.
Never got to the bottom of it, but I did get past it.
Create a backup of your source Mac OS X Server bootable disk on a scratch disk accessible to the server using Disk Utility, then use DU to wipe the target system disk, and then run a (clean) Snow Leopard Server install onto the disk, and then (as one of the last steps offered within the clean Snow Leopard Server installation) migrate your previous Mac OS X Server system settings into the new environment from your external (saved) copy of your original disk.
All this can (does) use the Snow Leopard Server bootable DVD, and the disk backup that you should have around regardless of the particular upgrade.

Is it possible to install CS5 or CS5.5 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM MacBook Pro running 10.6 (Snow Leopard)?

Hi Carolyn, thanks for your quick reply. First thing I did before posting my question was to check the system requirements for Creative Suite, both on Apple and Adobe's websites. But I am however confused about the difference between "Multicore Intel processor" vs "Core 2 Duo", and keep hearing stories about CS5 not working properly.

i upgraded to snow leopard but iphoto was not included. How do I install iphoto on snow leopard 10.6.8?

IPhoto is not included in any OS upgrade. It is a seperate application. Unless you choose to erase your drive when you upgrade no application including iPhoto is affected by the upgrade (except potential compatibility issues). If you need to reinstall iPhoto for and reason you do it from the original source. Either
1- the restore disks that came with your computer
    Or
2- the iLife DVD upgrade that you purchased
    Or
    3- the App store

  • OSX Lion, It is slow and really lumpy/jerky Can I revert back to Snow leopard?

    Where are Apple?
Had OSXLion for a week and it is nothing like as fast as the last OS, screen changes are really slow and jerky and the whole thing feels slower. Is there anything that I can do, or can I revert back to Snow Leopard?
This is a real shame never had this type of issue with Apple before.

This is a user to user forum.  You can only revert to Snow Leopard through your backup.  You might attempt piecemeal data recovery after backing up your Lion system, and copying your e-mail folders to IMAP if they weren't stored there before.  Spotlight frequently needs to finish updating in the menu in the upper right (it will only have a search field if it is done, and say it is indexing if it is not), or some plugins may need upgrading to be Lion compatible before you upgrade to Lion.  See my FAQs*:
