Can I tell iphoto not to display pixelated blown up thumbnails first?

I find it quite frustrating that when you double click on a thumbnail to see it full-screen, while iphoto is loading the full-rez image it displays a pixelated blown-up thumbnail for a second or two. I would much rather just wait the second or two for the full resolution image without having to look at the terrible pixelated image. Is there a way to change that behavior?
Better yet, is there a way to increase the resolution of the actual thumbnail files? (I don't mean just the size it displays at, b/c bringing that up too high just slows iphoto thumbnail view to a crawl.)
Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The answer to both questions is no. About the only way to reduce the effect would be to get a faster Mac and that's reasonable (unless you're looking for an excuse to buy that new Mac). I just that that time to blick a couple of times to keep the old eyeballs moist and don't even notice the effect.;)
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How do I tell iphoto NOT to load ALL images from camea and iphone, only new images?

I've bee using my MacBook Pro, iphoto and Nikon for many years. I travel alot and take many pictures, and like to keep them on the memory cards as an extra backup. All was going great on a recent trip, until one day, suddenly, when I plug camera into computer, iphoto opens (as usual) but it starts downloading ALL of the old images on the memory card instead of just the ones that have not already been imported! It takes forever when you are using a 16GB card!! Is this due to some update I installed? How do I tell iphoto not to do this?! I only want to see images not yet imported, as it used to be. I am using OS X 10.6.8 and iphoto '09 - 8.1.2  And, this same thing is happening with my iphone, and my other camera.

iPhoto does read all images (how else can it know if it has already imported them or not) and then gives your oppertunity to import new, all or selected
Yes it does take a bit to get all images and see what needs to be imported - I use 32 GB cards - and the other issue is that if you delete impoprted photos next time you use the card the deleted ones will be in the new list so you have to select the rest and import selected - I've found no solution to this

  • Can I tell Premiere NOT to drop frames for 25fps 24 fps?

I've got some 25 fps clips (which have undergone PAL speedup from the original 24 fps), excerpts from which are in a 24 fps sequence.  I want to tell Premiere to forget about dropping one frame each second (which is what it does to conform 25 fps to 24 fps) and instead to play the video at 24 fps. Reinterpreting the footage to 24 fps is of no use because the in/out points are then not in the right place.
So, given a 25 fps clip sent to a 24 fps timeline with lots of in/out points, can I tell Premiere to keep the in/out points exactly where they are, and to not drop frames?

Thanks for the responses. I have found a workaround for the problem, a problem which came about because I didn't reinterpret PAL video (from film that was originally 24 fps) to 24 fps before I started editing. I'm extracting interesting segments from old newsreels back to the 1930s, and since I had already edited several hundred segments, I coiuldn't face repeating the process. What follows is mostly for my benefit in case I ever had to do it again (forums are a good place to archive info), but it may be of interest to others.
PAL > 24 fps (how it should be done)
Pal video which has been digitised from 24 fps film (and hence undergone PAL speedup of 25/25), if it is then imported into a Premiere 24 fps sequence will have jerky video at the top and bottom because one of the interlaced fields will be dropped every 0.5 second with the result that the line at the top, bottom, or both will jump up and down. To stop this happening, reinterpret the video to 24 fps before editing in a timeline. This slows the video down to its correct fps (expands the time).
Slowing the edited video if NOT reinterpreted first
It is possible to correct the problem after setting up a sequence (if the clip was not reinterpreted to 24 fps) by changing the Speed/Duration to 96% (ctrl-click the clip in the Sequence timeline). This slows down the video/audio to the correct speed and also stops Premiere from trying to conform as described in the previous paragraph. However, these additional steps have to be taken:
Before changing the speed, video and audio clips that abut each other have to be separated to allow for the time expansion. After the expansion, move them back into place. If this is not done, video and audio at the juncture will overlap with loss of video and audio.
The expansion may cause an extra frame of video to appear at the start of a clip. This has to be checked for and removed.
Titles will not appear in the correct position. These also have to be moved manually.

  • I have over 9000 emails on my iphone 5, can anyone tell me how to delete all without having to first select each email ?

i have over 9000 emails on my new iphone 5, can anyone tell me how to delete them without first selecting each one ?

Just start Mail on the phone and go to all inboxes or the inbox for the account with 9000 emails.
Tap Edit near the top and start tapping the little circles. Entire threads can be selected which will delete the multiple emails within a thread saving some steps.
After tapping the circles, tap Delete at the bottom of the screen.
Keep at it and you'll get it done.

  • Can't open iPhoto after installation .Displays message :You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto

Can't open the program after Installing . Shows message " You can't open your current current photo library using this version of photo.
Made several attemps in fresh instalaltion without any success.

So I assume it is version 9.3, not sure?
Look at the application in the Finde, if you cannot launch it.
Select your iPhoto application in in the Applications folder and use the command "File > Get Info". What does the Info panel show in the "General" brick?
If it says 9.4.3, try to launch iPhoto by clicking the iPhoto icon in the Applications folder. Does that work?

  • Can you tell me how to displays my browser based help?

I am using RH8, generating Browser based Air, and have windows 7.
This is a continuation of my previous discussion.
I was able to generate browser based air help for my merged projects just once. But I just tried it again and it won't work.
    Here is what I did.
I created the parent file and generated the Air files.
This created my subdirectories for my merged projects. However, it did not create an !SSL file.
Then I generated Air files for my 11 projects and put the results in the folders created by my parent file.
I can view everything just fine on my pc but when I put it on another pc or our network drive, I just get a gray screen.
We just sent it to our IT person and he put our Air files out on our corporate web and it did display. However it did not have the correct template.
Also, the publish button displays for me but not for the other developer I'm working with when we want to publish.
Lots of questions, I hope there are answers. Thank you.
    Pat

    Hi there
Oh the joys of working in largely uncharted waters! (I'm talking AIR Help)
Sorry, but about the only thing I'm able to help with here is the Publish button. You stated that Publish was available for you but not your co-worker.
Publish will only be available if you have defined a Publishing Destination in the Single Source Layout properties. The question in my mind is to ask if you and your co-worker are opening the same project. If so, I would be assuming Source Control is involved. And if you both have the same project, it's a bit of a mystery as to why Publish isn't enabled.
But if you are each working on separate projects, I can totally understand that, because Publish settings are configured on a "per project" basis.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can I tell iTunes not to download song purchases since I'm using match?

When I buy new albums on my iPad or iPhone , I don't want to download the songs since I'm using match. Is there a way to stop this? Why can't iTunes ask me when I purchase?

Not at this time. All purchases must be downloaded, which is unfortunate, because your idea makes perfect sense. You may submit your polite feedback to Apple using their feedback form: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • How can I make Safari not to display on all desktops?

I go to mission control, then try to change desktop, and there it is: Safari on all desktops. How can I keep Safari in only one desktop?

Try only having one Safari window open at a time. You use tabbed browsing.

  • How can I tell iTunes not to import files that I want to sample listen too?

Let's say that I want to listen to a sample of something online. I download the file. When I click on the file iTunes opens, the file imports into my library and then it plays. How can I open the file without it importing into iTunes? I know that you can scroll over the file to play it, but I want to scrub around. My iTunes library has a bunch of random audio files in there now. If iTunes can't play without importing, is there any software that does that?
    Using: iTunes 11.0.4

Click one of the downloaded files to highlight it. Hit command-i to bring up the info pane. Scroll down to 'Open with' (click the disclosure triangle if necessary) and click the drop-down menu - select the QuickTime Player. Click 'change all...'. Now all files with that extension will open with the QT player when double-clicked. Of course you can still drag them into iTunes if you should want them there.

  • How can I tell LR not to automatically import pictures after editing and saving?

Whenever I open a RAW file from LR into Photoshop and save it within Photoshop as a tiff or whatever, it gets automatically imported to the LR catalog. Is there a way to avoid this?

    klsteven wrote:
    Jim,
I know that it`s not a raw as soon as it`s in PS. That`s why I open it as smart object.
One more question: In the preferences there is an option "stack with original". I would expect the tiff or psd to be in a stack with the raw file. But it doesn`t get stacked with it. So what is the option supposed to do?
It does stack with the original on my computer. Opening the raw image in Photoshop as a smart object does allow you to go back to the raw file in Camera Raw. And it adjusts the raw file. But when you close Camera Raw you are back working on the image in Photoshop. All the work you do in Photoshop is saved in the TIF or PSD. If you then go back to Lightroom and delete that TIF or PSD file you have thrown away all the adjustments done in Photoshop. Of course the raw file will be impacted by the adjustments that you made in Camera Raw, and it affected the TIF or PSD. But you're still throwing away all the Photoshop work.

  • How can I stop recent history being displayed in history menu without stopping remembering history altogether

I'm using the latest release (10.0) and am looking for a way to stop the history from being displayed in the History menu without turning off History, so I can still access History by going into the library.

I suppose it would help if I knew not only what you wanted but why, as there are a few possibilities that may help.
You may use private browsing,to stop some events being logged into the history in the first place, you may also clear items, single ones if need be.
    * see[[Clearing Location bar history]]
    * and [[private browsing]]
You can choose whether or not to display the history as suggested options from the location bar.
    * see [[location bar autocomplete#w_how-can-i-control-what-results-the-location-bar-shows-me]]_how-can-i-control-what-results-the-location-bar-shows-me
If you save History, then it can be displayed, I dare say there are methods of removing the button/option to display history from the UseIneterface but it would still be available from the Library.
Another option you may consider is settng up user accounts on the Operating System for different users, or even setting up separate firefox profiles for different users on the same OS account.

  • How to tell sapinst not to check and extract Oracle RDBMS CDs

    Hi,
I try to install SolMan on a system which I already installed another SAP instance on. From that earlier installation I kept the extracted and "patched" Ora10 staging area, patches, etc., but I removed the original RDBMS CDs (I didn't needed them).
Now SolMan sapinst also requires the Oracle installation material. How can I tell sapinst not to check and extract the Oracle RDBMS CD because the stuff is already in the stage?
             Thanx in advance,
                Laszlo Molnar

    Hi,
The extraction of RDBMS software happens when the SAPINST is taking inputs , before starting installation.
There is check box with the name 'Extract DB software' , you have not uncheck that , by default the check box will be checked.
I dont remember the screen name , but it usually happens when taking inputs for database.
    thanks

  • Can I have iPhoto library on external disc?

I needed more space on my laptops harddisc, and moved the whole iPhoto library to an external firewire disc. How can I tell iPhoto where to find the pictures?
    I have iPhoto 2.0.1
    Thankful for help....
    Øystein

The "option" key at launch does nothing for iPhoto 2, but what does work quite well is iPhoto Help. Search for the topic "switching between photo libraries" and should find what you need.
You did, of course, make sure that the external drive was formatted as "Mac OS Extended" before moving your iPhoto Library folder there, didn't you?

I have iPhoto 11 with Lion and when I try to post photos into MobileMe in Share I get the message that iPhoto is not connected to internet. Can anyone tell me how to connect iPhoto to internet?

My solution, which is not much, is to restart iPhoto and it then connects to the Internet. This has been an ongoing unsolved problem.

  • How can we tell if the iphone is already fully charged in ios7? Even if its 100% the thunderbolt icon is still displayed. Not like in ios 6 that we will know when to unplug the charger because there is an indicator.

How can we tell if the iphone is already fully charged in ios7? Even if its 100% the thunderbolt icon is still displayed. Not like in ios 6 that we will know when to unplug the charger because there is an indicator.

For those who seem unfamiliar with what is being asked:
On iOS 6 and older, just because the phone reached 100%, didn't mean it was Fully Charged. The way you could tell was the lightning bolt symbol that indicated the device was charging would change to an outlet plug when the device was not only 100%, but also stopped accepting further charge. This symbol switch would occur anywhere from 5-15 minutes after the device already was displaying 100%.
Now, on iOS 7, while it still reaches 100% with that same lightning bolt charge symbol, during the 100% point, it never switches to the plug symbol to indicate the charge period is totally finished.
Can anyone confirm if there is a way to see this charge completion in iOS 7 since it appears that there is no longer a symbol for it? Is there any indication that Apple may have changed the charging display so that now it only displays 100% when it would have previously displayed that plug symbol?
