    OK, let me back up a bit and make sure I'm thinking correctly about what I've done. I'll answer Shane's questions here, too.
    The video clips were shot on a Panasonic PV-GS500. They are DV Movies - DV/DVCPRO - NTSC. I brought them into iMovie, then I stored them on my desktop and transferred one of them into my FCP project, which is on the external drive I mentioned above. The wav file from the H4n is also stored on my desktop, though I imported it into the project.
    Is my project still referencing the original video and audio clips from my desktop? I can see how that would slow things down.

    The built-in "Show All History" command will show the latest load of each URL. If there were repeated loads during a period of time, that data is recorded in the history database (places.sqlite, in the currently active profile folder), but the repetitions are not shown in the dialog. You would need an add-on to see the additional detail.
    As far as I know, there isn't a way to measure the duration of actually viewing a page. I've seen a Windows program that records the currently active Window, so you could see when someone switched to another program, but if someone leaves their desk or answers the phone, there's no way for Firefox or any other software to know they are not using the browser.
    Regarding restricting the sites that can be viewed, I think the most reliable approach is a proxy server, but administering it could be a headache.     PSE's backup to external HDD has always seemed to be clunky.
    For example, when the process starts and you are taken step-by-step through browsing for your HDD and then creating your next incremental backup file and then browsing again to your last backup file, I have gotten used to this taking ages. e.g. often up to 45 minutes.
    Because of this, I ignore the fact that the application shows no user sign of carrying out the task, but looks like the application has hung. (just the windows blue circle revolving!). Indeed, if I mouse click on the button again (or anywhere else on the open PSE Organizer window), then Windows provides the message that Elements is not responding. However, if I wait, and wait eventually the next stage kicks in. Tonight, I started this process and it took 2.5 hours to reach the point that Elements would start the backup.  It then took only just over 5 minutes to complete the backup!!
    I am probably at least part of the cause of this problem.  My Catalogue has 38,103 images in it (+ 1, 804 items not shown) - What are these and are they additional to the 38, 103?
    Can I do something to improve the process of backing up? 
    I really like PSE and its organizer and this catalogue enables me to find any image very, very quickly which, for my work, is brilliant and incredibly useful and impressive.  This catalogue has been in existence for a number of years now back from PSE 6 through, 7, 8 and now, PSE 9, since last September.  Maybe this is part of the problem? 
    When I upgraded to PSE 9, I did restart the back up process with a full backup. I am now up to incremental backup 5.  My images are spread out on my PC's HDD (2.95 gb on the internal partitioned drive C with 60.2 gb on its other partition D). The remainder 144 gb is on an external HDD. 
    Whilst PSE finds any image quickly, as already stated, it IS getting very slow at generating the thumbnails when new images are downloaded into PSE.
    Are there any steps that I can take to refresh PSE to speed up the backuyp process and generating the thumbnails?

    It might screw things up.  I've never used the catalog Backup/Restore, so I'll defer to others who have, but I do know that Organizer's database (the catalog) stores a unique serial number ID for each volume that's used (C:, D:, etc.).  I suspect that that serial number is derived from the serial number of the unit, but I could be wrong.  I don't know how the database handles the situation where, e.g., photos on a Hitachi drive E: are then transferred to a Western Digital drive E:.  It probably will involve "re-connecting" all the photos, but this is just speculation on my part.
    I suggest you ignore, for the moment, PSE and set up your new hard drives in the way that makes the most sense to you.  Then work in PSE to accommodate that setup.

    I'm working on a MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2Duo machinewith 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, usinf Final Cut Pro 6. In my current project I have one clip that's about 40 minutes long. I recorded separate audio on a Zoom H4n and the audio clip is even longer. I am going to try to sync up certain sections of these clips and replace the audio from the camera. But right now, my computer seems to be choking on these files. I know there is a way to edit at less-than-full resolution, and then output later at full resolution, but I don't remember how to do this. Any suggestions?
    What I really want to do is ask the boss for a more powerful computer, but, budgets being what they are, I need to make sure I've tried every trick in the book first to get the most out of my current setup!

    this is exactly the kind of response i expected, almost begged support to please not do this to me and yet there it is another meaningless, non helpful, standard template response to restart my apple tv.

    I have managed to get FireFox's start-up memory usage down to about 100,000K, however it appears that memory usage keeps creeping up the longer FireFox is open. (It seems to top out around 500,000K.) And I'm not talking open for many hours or days - but rather for minutes and possibly up to a couple hours. (Based on how long I've been fiddling with all this so far.)
    On the plus side, it does not appear GreaseMonkey is the culprit since with it active or disabled this memory creep still occurs. Although having GreaseMonkey enabled definitely increases the rate of memory creep. Though once it has creeped up to 150,000+K, disabling GM does not make it drop back down to the starting 100,000K.
    I should point out I run a MacBook Pro and use Bootcamp to partition the hard drive and run it as a Windows 7 PC about half the time. I am running it literally as a PC or, alternately, as a Mac depending on which hard drive I choose to load. (I'm not "windowing" it.) This problem exists regardless of whether I am using the PC or the Mac. These repairs have been made currently on the PC side, and I will attempt them all again on the Mac side. I find it odd that this enormous memory drain has occurred on 3 different computers at the same time. (The two "halves" of my home laptop as well as the PC at my work place.)

    Yes, you can do this and it's something I've been trying to do, but I'm currently having issues.  I have another thread stating I consistently get "connection failed" messages.  I'm basically storing my music/photo/video files on the TC and keeping my Mac hard drive fairly lean.  In terms of NAS functionality, the TC is very basic.  Synology/QNAP and others have a lot more features so don't rule them out.

    Currently on HH3 number five, this one is Type A and has been running for about a week with reasonably consistent speeds until this morning when it had dropped again when I tried to restart it nothing happened.  Tried switching on/off still nothing just the orange power light.  Hit the reset button which woke it up.  Checked the settings and it was showing the date as 01.01.03 and time at 01.00.  Set it to take date/time from the internet but it shows the time one hour slow.
    My question in short is why can't the thing tell the time?????????????????????

    I don't think that you can actually "choose the time" on your router, that is, you cannot set it to an arbitrary time.  The router's clock is set from the internet.
    However, you can choose your "time zone" and whether or not to use "daylight saving time".  To do this, open your web browser and point it to address 192.168.1.1.  Enter your router password.  This will take you to your router's web setup page.  You can set the time zone on the bottom of this first page.  Then click "Save Settings".  Exit your browser.  When your router has internet access, it will set itself to the correct time.

    You will have to keep track of that yourself.  You are sampling at 360kHz.  This means that each sample is ~2.8us.  You can easily get the time by taking that dt (2.8us) multiplied by the sample index and adding the time at which the first sample was taken.

    I thought of storing time zone in the time and use session variable to pick up user's log in info along with time zone that he is associated with.
    However, if it has to be maintained by a table, then it should be manually updated right? I don't think that's what I want to do because a lot of our users travel a lot for short time, so they may not have their time zone info updated in the DB table when they are traveling somewhere else for a brief period while accessing OBIEE.
    So my question is, how can I pick up user's locale time zone setting and make sure that the data, such as hour conversation are converted along with the displayed time stamp?

    I have a similar problem, have endured several calls to apple care, two trips into the genius bar, had 2 computers rebuilt and after all that, the first sync with MobileMe restored the problem. My profile/preferences only recognises the hour 5:00AM and the hour markers on the day view and week view all say Sat AM, Sat PM in every hour. Please help. This is driving me crazy. I'm pretty sure it has to do with Preferences. If I create another account, iCal is fine on that account.

    You need to add that attribute using the config tool for your view configuration. Select the attribute All Day from the context node BTDATE in the available fields to your display field and then save it. It should now be visible in your UI and now you can select or uncheck it to make the time field enable. Check the below image
