Can I transfer PE5 to a larger hard drive without having to reinstall?

Hi I'm a new member of this forum and would like some advice on some things that I cannot find in the help sections, the Adobe website or the Forum.
My hard drive was too small (80GB) for all my photos and PE5 with all of the other programs I have on it so I have installed an additional drive (360GB).  I am running XP Professional. Can anyone please tell me if I can migrate the PE5 and all the photos etc to the new drive WITHOUT having to uninstall and reinstall on the new drive? The computer is an AMD 2.7GHZ Athlon dual core with 3.25GB free memory.
As an additional question,  I save all my photos that I have modified in a folder system that I have been using since long before I had PE5. I like this system because it works for me. However, when I save photos PE5 automatically saves them in the Organizer as well as the folder I tell it to. This is duplicating the amount of disc space that is being used. Can someone please tell me how to switch the automatic "Save in Organizer" off?
Many thanks Dr. How.

First, you don't need to move PSE itself ... just the photos. So no need to uninstall.
In PSE5, switch to Folder Location View (Alt-Ctrl-3), and move your folders that contain your photos to the new drive by dragging and dropping the folders in the folder browser that appears. For this to work, you may need to put a dummy photo on the new hard disk, and then import it into PSE.
Do not move your photos in Windows. Let me say that again. Do not move your photos in Windows.
Finally, your photos are not in the Organizer. By importing photos into the Organizer, you have not duplicated things using up twice as much disk space. The PSE Organizer contains only pointers to your photos, and a small thumbnail that it displays for you.

I copied all my CD's onto a hard drive.  Can I transfer each CD from the hard drive to my iPhone either wirelessly or by direct connection?  Do I have to make a playlist for each cd and then transfer it to my iPhone?

When you buy your new iMac you will be able to have the installation process transfer all your applications, data (including music, pictures, documents, etc) and settings to your new computer. In the past that was done via Firewire. I'm not entirely sure of the process with the new iMacs that don't have firewire. I think it can be done via ethernet and probably via tha thunderbolt cord using a firewire adapter but you'll want to check that out.
With the your new computer properly connected to your old computer, the initial booting of the new computer will include the ability to move everything over.
If for some reason you don't want to do that (smart if you have some horrible software issue that is causing problems) you can connect your old computer to the new one and start it in Target Disk mode where it will be seen as a hard drive. You can then manually copy over all your music and import that into iTunes (and any other data you want).
Somebody here will surely point you to directions for connecting an older iMac with no Thunderbolt to a newer iMac with no Firewire.

How can i backup my iPod Touch 4g and save my apps onto a new hard drive without having to save onto the current hard drive first?
My current hard drive is filled up and i'm going to buy a new, bigger hard drive. How can i change the save and backup destination for iTunes so i can backup and transfer my purchases(apps) onto the new hard drive? Without having to backup and save my apps onto the current hard drive because there's no space left on it. Thanks!

How do I transfer a single CD recently loaded on to itunes to my hard drive without having to transfer the whole itunes library?

Copy just those files. But that isn't ideal. You really want a differential system that efficiently updates the backup set with all new and updated files.  See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested strategy.

  • Can I load "Pages" onto new hard drive without having to pay for it again?

I have a 5 yr old Mac that just had it's hard drive replaced.  I had paid for and loaded Pages onto the original hard drive.  Wondering if there's any way to load Pages onto my new hard drive without having to pay for the program again.  Thanks so much

If you originally installed Pages from a CD or DVD, reinstall it from there.
If you installed Pages from the Mac App Store, yes, from the Apple ID you purchased it with.
If you got Pages from the iTunes App Store, the Mac version of it is a separate purchase.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes music from one internal hard drive to another internal hard drive without having to locate every song?

So I have two internal hard drives in my laptop but the hard drive that my music is on is running out of space. I want to transfer my music from the smaller hard drive to the larger hard drive so my computer can run faster. If I do this I'm afraid I'm going to have to locate every song within the iTunes library. Is there a way around it so I won't have to go in my files and locate every song? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Instead of moving the entire iTunes folder you can copy it, then do the Shift-launch trick to select the .itl file from its new location.  If it works, then go back and delete the original location.
But maybe clarify your configuration ... specifically, is your "iTunes Library.itl" file currently on the same drive that your music files are stored on?  Or, do you keep your .itl file on a separate drive than the native files?  If the .itl file is on a separate drive right now, then moving or copying the music files over to be on the same drive can result in iTunes not knowing where your native files went.  You can get around that using the Consolidate utility in iTunes, but that is not necessary if the .itl file lives with the music files.

  • Can I read mail on an external hard drive without importing the account?

HI - I have a large mail account on an external hard drive which i do not want to import on my mac due to hard drive space limitations.  Can I review the mail within the Mail app, (or some other app) without importing everything into mail or onto my hard drive?  Thanks very much!!

    Hi Paint Guy,
    *Bootcamp on External Hard Drive?*
Can I install Bootcamp on an external Hard Drive? I don't see why it wouldn't work. Do I need to install the Mac OS on the external Hard Drive first, then Bootcamp?
By Microsofts Design no Windows can be installed and booted from external HDs. BootCamp just follows this.
However, according to this http://tubeshards.wordpress.com/2006/12/05/install-windows-to-a-macintosh-usb-dr ive/ it can be done.
    Parallels
Another question. Does Parallels allow you to not have to use the "option" key to boot into Windows? I mean if I use Parallels can I use XP or Vista at the same time as my mac applications?
What, (if any) are the drawbacks to using "Parallels"?
Parallels is an OS X application which don't need a restart of your Mac to run Windows.
Therefor you can run OS X and Parallels Windows side-by-side.
Main drawback is, that Windows runs not native (on the real hardware) but in a virtualized environment.
While this is more than acceptable for 'standard' Office programs, any program that needs direct hardware access (especially games and 3D-programs) either do not run at all or run at noticeable slower speed.
Also you have to realize that the amount of RAM in your Mac is divided between OS X and Parallels Windows.
    *What Options are there...*
Is it possible for Apple to allow users to program a key on their keyboard, when pressed will bring up Windows so they don't have to always restart? I need to switch between Windows and mac OS quite often and it's a real pain to always restart. What options do I have?
BootCamp is no option then, since it needs a reboot everytime you want to switch between OS X and Windows.
Parallels (and VMWare Fusion and VirtualBox, BTW) run alongside OSX.
    Thanks
    You're welcome. Hope it helps.
    Have Fun

  • How can I transfer my photos to an external drive without using vaults?

In light of what is going on with all the uncertainty over Aperture support in the future, I am trying to be proactive and save my masters/versions to an external hard drive without them still being tied to Aperture.  I've been at it for hours with no luck.  I can create a new vault but I want a system where I can choose which individual projects I want to download to the external and the ability to go back to the external HD to work on files.  Vaults seems to be an all or nothing backup and doesnt allow choosing 1 particular file to work on.  Same thing with Time Machine?  Is this possible or are all the adjustments I made in the past few years forever tied to Aperture?

Yes i understand that. In fact when ever i import new images i do not save them in the Aperture Library. I save them on my server wich is pretty much the same as an EHD in this respect. There must be a clean way to do this....
    I have in mind:
    1) Export all your Photos from Aperture to EHD without an loss of Information/tags/RAW ...
    2) Import them back but instead of choosing In the Aperture Library choose In their current Location. See Screenshot.
This might be an appropriate solution if you want to keep Aperture for some more months. Otherwise of course you can change step 2) easily by importing them right away in your new application (Photos from Apple or Lightroom...) In other words wait with this step until you definitely switch your app;)

  • Can I move my itunes media folder to an external hard drive without having Itunes managing the media folder

Hi all....I have spent weeks tidying up my music collection. I moved it all to Itunes media folder. Since I don't like how Itunes manages this folder I manually organised it myself so that albums where together etc. I am wondering if there is a fool proof way to move my media folder to an external hard drive without letting itunes manage and consolidate files as this will reverse all the work I did in organising. Im not sure if Im posting to the right place but fingers crossed:)
    Thanks in advance

Just one more thing puhlease:) This is the list of things that are in my iTunes folder. Album artwork, Automatically add to iTunes, iTunes media, Mobile apllications, podcasts, previous itunes libraries, voice memos. Then it has files itunes preferences, itunes libary extras, itunes libarry genius, itunes libraary, itunes music library......Is there stuff in there that doesnt need to be there as some are repeated in itunes media folder which contains....automatically add to itunes, books, downloads, home videos, mobile applications, music, podcasts, tones, voice memos and itunes preferences. Any thoughts on deleting some folders??? Thankyou so much for your time on this

  • How can I transfer files off an external hard drive formatted for windows?

I just bought my first mac (yay!) and am trying to transfer my files off of my old pc.  The problem is that I stored all my personal files on an external hard drive, which is of course formatted for windows.  My mac will open it, but it is "read only."  I tried plugging it back into my pc and using the Migration Assistant to transfer my files over, but it was not detected (rest of the pc was).
However, the second time I tried plugging it in to my pc, it told me it would need to be formatted first.  Obviously my mac has changed something on it, and now all my personal files are on a hard drive that is unusable by either my old pc or my new mac!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!  Heads up though, I am not especially computer literate, and my pc needs to stay intact as the husband needs it and some of the programs on it for school.  Also, I have a second external hard drive that is brand new with nothing on it, if that will come in handy.
    Thanks!

Format the extra HDD to EXFAT as previously indicated.  There are two ways that can use to transferr the data.
    1.  Connect both drives to the PC and the copy the files to the newly formatted (EXFAT) drive from the HDD with the data .  Then connect the EXFAT drive to the MBP and transfer the data to same.
    2.  Connect both drives to the MBP and open DISK UTILITY>RESTORE.  Drag the drive with the data on it to the 'Source' field.  Drag the EXFAT drive to the 'Destination' field.  Click on the 'Restore' butt is on.  After the transfer has been completed, close DISK UTILITY and place the data on the MBP where you want it.
    Ciao.

  • How can I transfer songs from my remote hard drive to the iphone?

I have an external hard drive with my pc based music. I want to transfer songs to my iphone to play through PS3 and or my Home Theatre system receiver. How do I do this...I can not seem to connect or synch with Itunes?
    Thanks

Import you music into iTunes (File>Add to Library...), then sync to your iPhone (connect to iTunes), on Music tab select what to sync.  If you're having trouble connecting your iPhone to iTunes see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 (windows) or http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 (mac).

  • Can't transfer from macbook to external hard drive

My Seagate hard rive is saying that it is formatted NTFS when I plug it into my new mac. I have only ever used it on a mac and it didn't ever say this when i used it on my old computer.. Im not quite sure what to do because I have no where to put all my stuff to reformat it? Any ideas why its doing this?
Also I made sure when I bought the hard drive that it was both windows and mac compatible...
My macbook is running OSX version 10.94

    $t@x Y0 wroter
Also I made sure when I bought the hard drive that it was both windows and mac compatible...
It is Mac an PC compatible if it is formatted correctly.  Unfortunately for you, the HDD is formatted for Windows.  Since formatting a HDD erases all data on the drive and you have no place to store the data while reformatting the drive, it leaves you with one option.  You will be required to install third party software such as Paragon or Tuxera which will allow you to both read and write to the HDD.
The best alternative is to get a second HDD, format it for Mac, transfer the data from the Seagate to it, and then format the Seagate.  You can always use the second HDD for backups, thus it is not a wasted expense.
    Ciao.

  • Can't transfer iPhoto Library FROM external hard drive to iMac

I just bought a new iMac.  Before I said goodbye to my old computer (a MacBook), I dutifully backed up my iPhoto library onto an external hard drive.  Upon setting up my iMac, I easily accessed the iPhoto library on my HD, but I didn't import it.  I was able to see all photos, albums, etc.
But when I went to import the entire iPhoto library into my iMac's hard drive (into the Pictures folder), it wouldn't import.  A mesage comes up that says "Preparing to copy" and the blue-and-white bar just spins and spins, without actually copying anything.  So, it's weird -- there's clearly communication between iMac and external HD, but I can't take the iPhoto library off the hard drive to make it my new computer's iPhoto library.
    Any hints?  Thanks.

Have you tried restarting your machine?

  • How can I resize partition? - New larger hard drive installed

    Hello,
The hard drive on my MacBook Pro recently died on me (just past my Apple Care warranty - lucky me).  I sent it to an authorised reseller/repair place and they installed a new hard drive for me - replacing my old 250GB with a nice new 500GB.  The problem is when they copied over the disk image from my previous hard drive they did not scale up the image (yeah, not so happy bout that).  Now I find myself with a 500GB hard drive with a 250GB partition called Macintosh HD and 250GB of unused/unusable space.  On top of that I'm just starting to get messages saying boot disk nearly full.  How can I resize the "Macintosh HD" partition to use the entire disk?  I've tried using disk utility, clicking on the main drive, going to the partition tab and dragging the Macintosh HD partition to use the entire disk but after a few seconds of a message saying "waiting for disk to reappear" it returns to the same 250GB size.  Running OSX 10.9.3.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks all!

See the tips in pounding's section on using Disk Utility:http://pondini.org/OSX/Home.html and you could also take the route of buying an external hard drive (a great idea of maintaining a backup), format that drive for Mac OS X Extended (Journaled), clone the startup disk to that drive, then boot from the external, erase and format the internal, then clone the external back to the internal partitioned as you want.
