Can Illustrator calculate percentages for a pie chart?

Or do I have to go to Excel (which I can barely use) and enter the numbers there to get my percentages? Thanks.

?  What gives you the impression that we're wasting time?

I do know how to Google for such answers.
Please excuse the assumption that you do not know your way around the web... but you did miss the Illustrator forum down the hall and to the right.
Perhaps if you described the origin of your pie chart and how you are intending to enter numbers in Excel, we might have a better clue as to what you expect. This discussion could be continued in the Illustrator forum.

  • Illustrator CS5 won't save pie chart

    I created a pie chart in Illustrator 5 using a much-loved Veerle tutorial ... drew a square, entered my data, created pie, applied gradient colors and a 1 pt white stroke between the pieces. Hit save, and got this message: "Can't save the file." That's it. No reason, no funny sequence of numbers and letters denoting an error. Thought maybe my gradients used too large a spectrum of color, but even after I applied plain colors I got, "Can't save the file."
    Is this a version 5 glitch, or am I doing something wrong? The workaround was to enter data and create the pie only, then move it to InDesign for the remaining steps. But, if anyone knows why I couldn't save a color pie chart in Illustrator, I'd appreciate knowing, too! Thanks.

    I'm having similar problems, and can't seem to find any answers online anywhere - though I am seeing comments elsewhere that indicate I'm not alone. This thread is the closest I've come! I'm hoping somone can shed some light on this. (I  am working in CS5 as well)
    I've created my pie charts, and then cannot do anything else (except change the data numbers).  I would like to do a 3D effect - and can't, all of my menus are grayed out. I couldn't even expand or un-group if I wanted to. I can't copy, paste or delete the charts either.
    I've been using illustrator for many years, and haven't come across a problem like this before.

  • Percentage in Flash Pie Charts

    Hi
    I have a pie chart showing calls by company, its currently showing a value on the pie segment (amount of calls). Can I have this showing as a percentage?
    Here is my code
    select null link, COMPANY label, COUNT(ID) value
    from CHART_BY_CUSTOMER
    WHERE REGION = NVL(REPLACE(:P8_REGION, '%null'||'%', NULL), REGION)
    AND LOB = NVL(REPLACE(:P8_LOB, '%null'||'%', NULL), LOB)
    AND TRUNC(TO_DATE(DATECALLED)) BETWEEN TRUNC(TO_DATE(:P8_FROM_DATE))
    AND TRUNC(TO_DATE(:P8_TO_DATE))
    AND COMPANY NOT LIKE '.Caller%'
    group by COMPANY
    order by company
    Thanks
    Adam

    Adam,
    The ratio_to_report analytic function can do exactly that. Try this:
    select null link, COMPANY label, 100*ratio_to_report(COUNT(ID)) over () value
    from CHART_BY_CUSTOMER
    WHERE REGION = NVL(REPLACE(:P8_REGION, '%null'||'%', NULL), REGION)
    AND LOB = NVL(REPLACE(:P8_LOB, '%null'||'%', NULL), LOB)
    AND TRUNC(TO_DATE(DATECALLED)) BETWEEN TRUNC(TO_DATE(:P8_FROM_DATE))
    AND TRUNC(TO_DATE(:P8_TO_DATE))
    AND COMPANY NOT LIKE '.Caller%'
    group by COMPANY
    order by company
    You'll also want to change the Postfix for your value labels to '%'.

  • Can HPCM calculate percentages to use in allocations as well as perform the allocations

    Hi All
    I have a client that is evaluating which products to purchase from the Oracle stack.  Unfortunately I don't know HPCM yet so I'm not sure of its capabilities.  I think they will definitely go with Hyperion Planning but they do some relatively simple allocations and I cannot decide whether or not they need HPCM.  They currently have a relational / access database that is used to calculate percentages to be used to allocate costs from back office to front office.  Whether they need to purchase HPCM seems to depend upon whether HPCM can calculate the percentages required for the allocation as well as perform the allocations.  The options as I see it are:
    1.  Replace legacy system with HPCM and use HPCM to calculate percentage and apply percentages to allocate costs
    2.  Keep legacy system for calculating percentages, upload percentages to HPCM and use HPCM to allocate costs
    3.  Keep legacy system for calculating percentages, upload percentages to Essbase and use Essbase to allocate costs
    4.  Keep legacy system for calculating percentages and allocating costs (not ideal as will require additional system interfaces of data from and to Hyperion Planning)
    I know HPCM uses Essbase, when I say Essbase above I mean Hyperion Planning.  I have advised the client that they ought to avoid option 4 but I am not clear enough on what HPCM can do to advise them on which of the other options is most suitable / cost effective.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Stu

    Hi Stu,
    the plain answer is Yes, HPCM can do such a simple task. In my private opinion, it would be a bit oversized.
    I want to add an option and put my vote on this:
    0.  Pull in a DB connection the required data into Planning and use Planning to calculate percentage and apply percentages to allocate costs.

    Hi "805629" (please update your profile with a name, thanks),
    The value you have provided for the link is incorrectly formatted. The LINK column of the query should be a String, so your link should be in single quotes, and if you wish to incorporate the EMP_DOT column value into the URL, then you need to concatenate it with the URL. Item references should also have a full stop '.' at the end e.g. <font color="red"><b>&APP_ID.</b></font>. Am I correct in assuming that you wish to use the value of EMP_DOT as the page in your application you wish to branch to? If that's the case, then you'll need to do the following:
    Instead of:
    SELECT f?P=&APP_ID:32:&SESSION:#emp_dot#:&DEBUG.::: LINK,TO_CHAR (emp_dot, 'Month'), COUNT (*) FROM hr_emp_personal_info GROUP BY TO_CHAR (emp_dot, 'Month')..your statement should look similar to the following:
    SELECT 'f?p=&APP_ID.:'||EMP_DOT||':&SESSION.::&DEBUG.:::' LINK,TO_CHAR (emp_dot, 'Month'), COUNT (*) FROM hr_emp_personal_info GROUP BY TO_CHAR (emp_dot, 'Month')Here's some examples of pie chart links, which may prove helpful to you: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:1.

  • XSL for a Pie chart with a very simple XML data file

    Hi All
    Using BI Pub Desktop 10.1.3.2.1 with Oracle Apps R12.1.3.
    I am trying to do a pie chart for the below data in an xml file. Normally this is pretty straight forward but with the below simple data structure I am a bit stuck, maybe thinking about it too much. Appreciate any help on what the xsl should like.
    xml file contains only the below. There is no other data in the file.
    <G2>
    <ITEM>ALL</ITEM>
    <AA>10</AA>
    <BB>20</BB>
    <CC>50</CC>
    <DD>30</DD>
    </G2>
    I want to be able to have a pie chart that shows the labels: AA, BB, CC and DD with the corresponding data values of 10,20,50 and 30.
    Thanks for viewing the question.
    Cheers Cel

    Please disregard. i went back to the original blog code and started over, and figured this out.

  • In repeat run, can i calculate Depreciation for perticular period.

    Hi
    when I calculate the depreciation in Repeat Run, It shows the message that for 12 periods only the Dep is calculated.
    But I want to calculate the Dep for Particular period. Is it possible?????
    If possible pl give me the suggession
    Venkata Raju

    Hi,
    You can't do.
    See below note:
    It is possible to repeat the posting run within the period last posted. However, in contrast to the first run for a period, the repeat run can be restricted to specific assets. In the repeat run, the system posts changes to depreciation, as compared to the depreciation amounts from the previous run.
    Normally the repeat run is carried out at the end of the fiscal year, if completing postings are necessary because of corrections to manual depreciation or depreciation terms.

  • Overlay a graphic on a Pie Chart, & Rotate text in a Pie Chart

    Is it possible to overlay a graphic on a pie chart?
    I've tried manipulating the Wrap Inspector, but regardless, when I paste a graphic on topic it drops below the pie chart and deletes one segment of the pie.
    In a related pie chart question, is it possible to rotate the text to face into the central axis, think spokes in wheel (vs. the default horizontal). I can rotate the pie chart in about 3 dif. inspectors, but no luck here...and my texts is just a little too long to fit nicely in the default (and too hard to read if I reduce the font size).
    Thanks

    I assume you want to have a graphic that sits over the chart, and that you see the values underneath? Something like a shine, worn texture or logo?
    If you are wondering what happened to your particular 'missing slice' open the Graph inspector and select that section. Chances are you have changed the tiled image which was assigned to that particular piece of the pie chart.
    To overlay a graphic, draw a circle shape. In the graphics inspector assign an image fill to that shape. Choose tiled or scale to fit as required (a png. file with transparencies will show the underlying values, as will setting the opacity of the circle)
    Turn the wrap off for the circle (It sounds like your pie chart may be set to 'moves with text' instead of 'locked to page') And then place it overtop of the pie chart. Resize to fit. Since this is now 'locked to page' and above the pie chart, any movement of the pie chart means you will have to reorient your overlay. To avoid this, set the pie chart to Locked to Page as well.
    At this point you can set the wrap for the pie chart so the text moves around it if you like. Your overlay and the pie chart will remain in sync if they are both fixed to page.
    Regarding your text question, no. You can't set that. What you can do is use a numerical, letter or symbolic value and include a legend manually to indicate the true names of the portions using a text box.
    (I've seen someone with a pie chart whose segments were labeled with seven words, the last two of which were the only ones that changed. I suggested using the unchanging portion as the graph title and the changing portion as the individual slices. Not sure if that would apply to your project.)

  • Illustrator CC errors reopening docs with pie charts

    I created some sample pie charts for a client - had no problems with the document while it was open. It saved fine, I even saved it as an EPS. However, when I try to reopen the document, it gives me an error (whether I open the illustrator or eps file).
    I haven't been able to track down the reason for it. It has 6 sample pie charts on it. The text and labels are simply text or lines drawn on a separate layer. The "hole" is simply a white circle on top of the chart. There isn't really anything complicated with it, so I'm not sure where the error is. I've already recreated this but had the same problem again.
    This does not happen for all pie charts - there is another file I created with other samples, and I've been able to reopen that. The odd thing is that even though I get the error, it seems to partially open the file - only a few of the elements show up. Not sure if that would help you to track down the bug or not. See screenshot below.

    I have two internal hard drives. One has the applications, the other is where I save my files. But I don't think that would be the issue since I can save/close/open other illustrator files, it's just something about these files. I have another file with bar charts - no problem with that one.
    I thought the problem might have to do with some of the pie charts having strokes applied. But I did a test with strokes applied to the chart (center, inside, outside) and I was still able to open them after closing them.
    So there is something else that I can't figure out. Is there a way to find out from the error code what the error even means or what kind of object or effect it is in relation to?

  • Need help with SQL for Pie Chart

    I am trying to create a pie charge which would have 3 slices.
    Following sql gives me the expected values when I run the sql command:
    select
    round(avg(CATEGORY_1 + CATEGORY_2 + CATEGORY_3 + CATEGORY_4 + CATEGORY_5),0) "OD Engagements",
    round(avg(CATEGORY_6 + CATEGORY_7 + CATEGORY_13),0) "Talent Engagements",
    round(avg(CATEGORY_8 + CATEGORY_9 + CATEGORY_10 + CATEGORY_11 + CATEGORY_12),0) "Other Engagements"
    from OTD_PROJECT
    where STATUS in ('Open','Hold')
    I get 3 columns labeled: OD Engagements, Talent Engagements and Other Engagements with the correct averages based on the the data.
    I have tried several ways to try to get this to work in the SQL for a pie chart, but keep getting the invalid sql message and it won't save. I also tried saving without validation, but no data is shown on the chart at all.
    I want to have a pie, with 3 slices, one labeled OD Engagements with a value of 27, one labeled Talent Engagements with a value of 43 and one labeled Other Engagements with a value of 30. Then I want to be able to click on each pie slice to drill down to a secondary pie chart that shows the breakdown based on the categories included in that type.
    Since I am not grouping based on an existing field I an unsure what the link and label values should be in the chart sql.

    You'll need something like the below. I have no idea what the URL for the drilldown needs to be. It should create an appropriate link in your app for the particular slice. Mainly the code below breaks the SQL results into three rows rather than three columns. It may well have a syntax error since I can't test.
    select linkval  AS LINK,
           title    AS LABEL,
           calc_val AS VALUE
    FROM   (SELECT 'OD Engagements' AS title,
                   round(avg(CATEGORY_1 + CATEGORY_2 + CATEGORY_3 + CATEGORY_4 + CATEGORY_5),0) AS calc_val,
                   'f?p=???:???:' || v('APP_SESSION') || '::NO:?' AS LINKVAL
            from   OTD_PROJECT
            where  STATUS in ('Open','Hold')
            UNION ALL
            SELECT 'Talent Engagements' AS title,
                   round(avg(CATEGORY_6 + CATEGORY_7 + CATEGORY_13),0) AS calc_val,
                   'f?p=???:???:' || v('APP_SESSION') || '::NO:?' AS LINKVAL
            from   OTD_PROJECT
            where  STATUS in ('Open','Hold')
            UNION ALL
            SELECT 'Other Engagements' AS title,
                   round(avg(CATEGORY_8 + CATEGORY_9 + CATEGORY_10 + CATEGORY_11 + CATEGORY_12),0) AS calc_val,
                   'f?p=???:???:' || v('APP_SESSION') || '::NO:?' AS LINKVAL
            from   OTD_PROJECT
            where  STATUS in ('Open','Hold')
           );

  • Can a Pie Chart have a variable number of slices?

    Is there a way to dynamically limit the NUMBER of slices that a pie chart shows?
    For instance, sometimes there might be 10 elements, sometimes 6 (last 4 are 'blank') or maybe 5 (last 5 are blank).
    Yes I know I can keep on reducing/increasing the Excel cells to include...but is there a way to include only certain ones as the data exists?

    My Behaviour tab for my pie chart does not HAVE the "ignore end blanks option"

  • Dynamic Pie Chart: Counting the number of instances for each value

    Hello my name is Tim and I am at a roadblock concerning a chart for a dashboard design.
    I have a list with two fields:
    Platform and Status. The list is customized in InfoPath. The
    Platform field is located on the form as a drop-down menu with 6 entries.
    Status is a choice field with 3 selection that is updated through the lifespan of the project (once item created, it is updated to "In process", once the project is closed, the field is updated to "closed."
    My hurdle is viewing these dynamically in a Pie Chart. I am  trying to display the number of project's "In process" for each Platform. So, if Platform A has 6 projects "In process" and Platform B has 3 projects "In process"
    how can this be displayed in a pie chart?
    At the moment, I figured there are two options: Chart View WebPart or importing an Excel  worksheet.
    Any ideas or solution on how to accomplish this?
    -Tim Dempsey

    Three options:
    1. Create a list that holds your statuses. Then in your original list, create a lookup to the status list. In your status list, make a lookup to the lookup. This creates a circular reference which, for whatever reason, returns a count. You can then connect
    a chart web part to this. Repeat for the other column.
    2. Go to your sharepoint list and export to spreadsheet. Save the file. This is a query file that you can use as a data connection. From that file, set it to auto-update and then create a chart from a pivot table. Then use Excel Services Web Part to display
    the file.
    3. The other option is to use Google Charts API. Connect to the list, run some jQuery and JavaScript and then export out a chart. Pretty cool tool.

  • Can you edit the legend of a pie chart?

    Hi,
    Here we are again...
    We use a BI query to get a list of activities and their status. I want to display this in a pie chart. So for example:
    We get a list of 20 activities and there are 15 activities with status "A" and 5 with status "B". I can perfectly display this within the pie chart. (We get a pie chart which is 75% blue and 25% red).
    My question: How can I edit the legend so that it doesn't say [blue] = "A" and [red] = "B", but for example [blue] = "Open" and [red] = "Completed".
    Is this possible at all with VC 7.0? Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Jan Laros

    Hi Fabien,
    That could be a solution, but it is kind of dirty...
    I find it very odd that there is not a standard way of editing the legend labels.
