CAN interface using XNET

Hello I am just wondering and I am new in Labview development using CAN IF, I will be glad if someone can explain this.
We have a project wherein we got 1 NI XNET and 1 NI CAN 8473 connected.
When i tried to run two VI from examples(CAN Frame Input Single Point and CAN Frame Output Single Point) and selected CH1 as the interface (NI XNET)
nothing happens to it, however when I tried to open the Bus monitor (CH0) which is the NI CAN 8473, the values on CAN Frame Input vi keep updating.
Can anyone explain why does it need to have the other interface to be opened to have the value updated based on the cyclic timing?
Thank you very much.

I've been going through much of the same process and it's been working out pretty well.  Post if you get hung up on any particular part.

  • How to use NI CAN feature for extracting DBC information without a CAN Interface?

    Hi,
I'm looking for some tricks in order to extract DBC Information using the NI CAN without a CAN interface...
Basically I have some DBC files and I would to analyze them to get hierarchy Messages and Channels (and their related information, offset, scale, etc.).
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/4294/en/
The function CAN Get Names is usefull and allow me depending on the mode to get a list of the Channels and Messages described in the DBC file. However, I'm encountering one major issue and none of the least, I cannot use the function the CAN Get Property... As it required a connector based on Task that I cannot provide since I dont have any real and physical CAN interface, for now. Therefore I cannot have any information about the channels neither about the messages...
Does anybody can give me a hand to fix that matter?
    Solved!

It seems that no matter the virtual port I am using, it does not work. Could you have a look at my sample.vi, I know it's poorly wired, especially since I'm more in .NET things than NI from my occupation ^^'. I also provided a dummy DBC file to simulate a very basic input.
And by the way is there any way then to get the Byte Array / Bit Array corresponding to a certain message (and how to set the signal values required to get the message)?
Your code isn't that bad, relativly easy to follow.  In any case the problem had nothing to do with the CAN port being used.  If you would probe the error wires around you would see that coming out of the CAN Init Start stated that the channel name didn't exist.  Looking at how you had it wired you took the messages (or frames) and put them into the channels terminal, when I assume you wanted the channels.  Then looking at your tree you were again trying to get the ID of a channel, but giving it the message name.  I also added reading the Start Bit, Number of Bits, and Byte Order for all the channels read.
If you were to do this with XNET there would be completelly different functions, but the same operations can be done.

  • Can vector CANoe software can be used to integrate with NI XNET?

Can vector CANoe software can be used to integrate with NI XNET hardware?, Is there drivers available for NI XNET PXI card to communicate and talk to Vector CANoe software?. Please help. This would help us reduce creating the Database using LAbVIEW.
    _Ventakesswaran

CANoe is essentially made to integrate Vector hardware, so you can't directly use NI-XNET interfaces into your CANoe system. There are still a few ways to communication between LabVIEW (or CVI) and CANoe if you need to share data. It includes :
    - Using the ActiveX server of CANoe in LabVIEW. It allows LabVIEW to automate most tasks in CANoe and notably write/read data.
    - Writing a server/client code based on TCP or UDP to send and receive data. In LabVIEW, it just uses the primitives in the Data Communication palette. In CANoe, the communication can be handled by some code written in a CAPL node.
The first way is slower, but does not require to write code in CANoe. There are also a few examples going around the web :

    Hi Lucky,
    Thanks for your reply,
What iam trying is ...Iam trying to load the data from legacy tables(3) into oracle staging tables. But i need to load the same source data into two staging tables(these staging tables are in two different schemas)
can i load this source data into two staging tables by using single standard interface(some business logic is there)

  • Can I use  a MY Book Pro external 500 gig Triple interface HD with FCE?

    Hey everyone,
I just recently bought a Macbook pro and purchased FCE HD 3.5. I want to purchase a high capacity external HD. I want it mainly for my projects with FCE and other members of the family will be backing up to it. I want to keep my projects on the external and work on them from there not my main HD.
After doing some online research I was about to purchase the LaCie Big Disk Extreme. However there seemed to be a lot of bad reviews about early disk failures. The G Technology drives sound great but are a little pricey.
I came across the MY Book Pro addition 500 gig Triple interface HD from Western Digital and found that the 500 gig pro had similar spec to the LaCie but they never mention in the specs that it can be used for video editing. They only mention "Fast enough for video editing" in the 1TB raid 0 version. I'm just wondering if anyone is having success using the My Book Pro Edition. I checked the forums first and even check specs from apple on external drives and FCE but I was hope for some real use advise. I'm not trying to cheap out, I'm just trying not to buy a lemon & get the most storage and speed for my buck. I'll buy they higher end if I should. My video productions right now are 10 minute long movies with some video clips and stills but I'm hoping to advance to bigger (High Def) things. Any advise in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
The specs from Western Digital are as follows:
    My Book™ Pro Edition™
    External Hard Drives
    500 GB, Triple Interface
    Rotational Speed
    7,200 RPM (nominal)
    Average Latency
    4.20 ms (nominal)
    Seek Times
    Read Seek Time
    8.9 ms
    Track-To-Track Seek Time
    2.0 ms (average)
    Serial Transfer Rate
    FireWire 800
    Serial Bus Transfer Rate (1394b)
    800 Mbits/s (Max)
    Macbook Pro 17" 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The 500GB MyBook Pro should work fine. Just be sure to use a Firewire connection (not USB) to your Mac and format the drive as Mac OS Extended - Journaled. It will come from the factory as FAT32, so you'll need to reformat it. But wait - don't reformat it until you offload the ButtonManager, FW Driver and Retrospect software. You will need the first two to install your drive.
And that's one of the reasons I stay away from the MyBook drives - they were really designed for Windows systems, not Macs. For one, they have their own FireWire drivers and I see no reason to be required to install device-specific drivers on my Mac in order to use a consumer-grade hard drive. As far as I'm concerned, that's just bad design (or, perhaps design for systems other than Macs ...).
The 500GB Lacie Big Disk did get a bunch of bad reviews. However, the 500GB Lacie d2 Extreme is the same price and has much better reviews. The Lacie d2 Extreme drives are quite reliable; I have many and not one of them has failed me over the years. The 320GB d2 Extreme is currently $140 at newegg.com. See how that compares to the price of the MyBook.

  • How can I use the color adjustments interface that shows up for camera RAW on jpeg files?

How can I use the color adjustments interface that shows up for camera raw on other files types? The HLS controls had the secondary color adjustments (6 colors instead of the 3). Plus, it had same vibrancy and a better Curves interface. Yesterday was the first time I imported raw into Photoshop CS5 and I got that really cool interface. What is that? Can I use that on other file formats?

Actually I am using the Tradional Chinese Version, when I try to edit the jpg file with camera raw, the system shows that there is no camera raw plug-in. The cmaera raw never work.

  • How can I use USB interface in Labview?

    Hi.
Does labview allow to USB interface?
I have been seen allowing GPIB and RS232.
I'm beginer at Labview and wanna use USB interface for my target system and pc.
I wanna know how to labview interfaces from target system to pc.
And if Labview doesn't provide USB interface module, how can I use USB?
Is using a USB at Labview hard to beginer?
    Plz, answer to my quetion.
sorry, my English is very poor.
    thx for reading my article.

You can access devices connected to the USB port, but not in the same way as you would a GPIB or RS232 device. There are no USB drivers like there is VISA for GPIB or serial. Rather devices that plug into the USB appear to the systen as some sort of standard resource like a printer, disk drive or IO board. LabVIEW then interacts with these devices as it would any other device of the same type.Look at it this way, if you have a USB daq device you will access it through MAX the same as if it were a plugin card. • Please can someone advise; Can I connect my 'Focusrite Saffire' audio interface using Garageband as the sequencer? Necessary as a consequence of 'Cubase LE' being incompatible with OS Lion

    Warmly appreciated

Not sure I understand what you want to do, but
    • your interface should work with GB if it works with Lion at all
    • you can't use GB as a sequencer driving other sound units via midi since GB doesn't send midi signals out, it only receives.

  • CAN Read telemetry using XNET

I'm trying to move from the old CAN driver to the XNET driver. It work well to transmit command frames but so far I'm unable to read a telemetry frame, I attached pictures of the expected result (that I get using the old CAN driver) and of what I get using the XNET driver.
And of course I attached the code I'm trying to get working. One strange thing is that the REQ_ID is not inserted in the transmit frame (as seen using I/O Trace) but even when I'm forcing it using bundle by name to the XNET Write vi I'm not reading the telemetry as expected. I'm using the same code (the transmit part) to send commands and it works.
Any idea of what I can try?
    Thanks,

Depending on your timing, the remote device may have:
    1. Already sent the response before you started your input session.
    2. Not responded yet
If the problem is (1), try creating and starting both sessions before you write the data.
If the problem is (2), try using a queued session instead of a single point session and actually wait for the frame to arrive.
I actually recommend implementing both solutions - create the sessions first and create the input as a queued session. Then, do a read with a timeout to actually get the response.

  • Can we use applets as user interfaces with sockets, RMI and J2EE

    Dear Sir or Madam,
Since I am a TA for software architecture class, some one ask me the following question: I think the answer is "No" based on the document on http://java.sun.com/sfaq/
How I answer the quesions? Looking forward your help!!!
1.You may have 2 applets and 2 html files. One applet with one html file may stay at a client PC and run on this PC, and the other applet with the other html file may stay at a server PC and run on this PC. In this case, all the applets are run locally.
2.Could applets works with sockets, RMI and J2EE?
3.Can we use applets as user interfaces with sockets, RMI and J2EE?
    Thank you very much!
    Best regards,
    Jing

The scenario you paint doesn't quite make sense. The "server PC" wouldn't be running an applet, normally, since applets are by definition in a web browser page, and most likely involve user interaction, and "server processes" generally are done without user interaction.
The security rules around applets are that -- by default -- applets can connect with sockets ONLY to the server from whence the applet was loaded. RMI uses sockets (J2EE is too broad a spec) and hence RMI calls would also be limited to the server from whence the applet was loaded. Within that limitation, an applet could open all the sockets it wants, so long as they are all on the server from whence the applet was loaded.
If you want two applets on two different systems to communicate with each other, the simplest way is to have them rendevous through a server process on the server(s) from whence each applet was loaded. Maybe it's PC-a <-> server-a <-> server-b <-> PC-b ...? Or maybe PC-a and PC-b both are talking to the same server.
The limitation is rooted in the security subsystem. You can specify a policy file and override anything in the security subsystem. That does mean signing the applet and then cajoling the user into agreeing to grant greater levels of security than the default. In such a case you can open sockets more broadly and then PC-a could talk directly to PC-b without going through any servers.

Yeah, Siri - a headline feature on the iPhone 4s page - is beta at the mo.

  • Can i use Marshall amp as audio interface/preamp to connect to Garageband(to prevent the feedback when connected to macs audio port)

I have been trying to connect my guitar to my macbook 1,1 for use with Garageband and Mainstage. As per the garageband manual i  was connecting my Fender Strat Squire straight into my mac audio port using the 1/4-1/8 adapter. When i do this the sound quality ***** especially when i try to use some of the virtual amp settings that create distortion and cool effects. Basically anytime im playing my guitar in GB or Mainstage and im connected straight into the audio port i get a MASSIVE amount of feedback noise and no matter what i do with the noise gate or settings i cant get it to go away unless i turn the settings down so low i can barely hear the guitar. I know that you can purchase an 'audio interface' or 'preamp' like Apogee or M-Audio Fastrack or some of the many others and this allows for clean sounding recording. My query is basically this: i have a Marshall MG100 DFX that does appear to have an emulated line out port that the manual says i can use to "connect your amp directly to your multi-track recording machine". Does this mean i can just use my amp as my audio interface between my guitar and my computer? I seem to remember hearing before that this was possible but i want to be sure. I really dont want to spend $ on an audio interface as they are very expensive and i figure if my Marshall amp can work  just the same ill stick with that for now. Any responses and advice will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for your time.

    yes, you can try it
make sure you're using the line-IN, either way:

also note that many of the amps just _are_ very noisy
