Can Ipods do this?
I have the first Ipod and wanted to know if new ipods can do this.
On the original you can not fast forward or rewind to a point in a song.
Your stuck playing the whole thing.

Yes, more modern iPods can do this.
When you're playing a song, you can click once, and get to a screen where you can scroll the wheel around, making your way through the song (this switches where you are in that song).
If you can picture a little progress tab for the song that can be moved along by scrolling the click wheel around, then that's what it's like on a modern iPod.
Also, if you want to switch to a different song (or the beginning of the current song you're listening to), you can use either the "<<" or ">>" buttons on your iPod.

In the iTunes window, when I update my nano ipod, I get an error message "User ipod cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to." How can I overcome this error message.

It sounds like you are getting this error message that your iPod cannot be read from or written to when you are trying to update your iPod Nano. My iPod touch is always recognized by my Vista Box...using the same USB cable and port my wife's nano isn't detected anymore. Since Vista can't see the nano iTunes can't see it either. When I try my wife's nano I get the message:
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows doesn't recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message"
I thought her nano wasn't charged enough but I've charged it for hours and this doesn't make a difference. It used to synch like my ipod touch but it stopped working about a week ago. My wife's nano still holds songs and works it just can't be recognized by Windows. I even checked if the Apple Mobile Device app was running and it was and I stopped it and restarted it. Didn't make any difference. Any ideas? -
i recently got a new laptop so my itunes library is empty but i want to upgrade my ipod without losing my music. how can i do this? please someone HELP!!!

I can not activate my ipod with my Apple ID, it tells me that my account can not activate this device, but my apple ID is OK.
The proposed me as ipod help entering previous credentials, but the ipod is mine from the beginning, in fact I have my ballot, not bought down to another user.
Actually I do not know how to activate it in Chile were unable Store MacOnline solve my problem, it is for this reason that I am writing to see if someone can help me.

My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes. I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes. There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE. How can I get this to work with iTunes again?
1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

So, I locked my iPod while listening to music, then pressed to home button to turn it back on, then I pressed it again twice to bring up the music controls so I could pause the song. The music controls came up, but they didn't control the song I was listening to, also the album artwork wasn't showing. How can I fix this?

I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod Touch, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10sec. or until Apple logo appears (Nothing will be lost, this is just a "Hard Reset")

I think the issue is that iTunes (for whatever reason) thinks I have two Apple ID's.
also, to further complicate the issue, when i try updating the apps from my iPod the iTunes store is still recognizing my old hotmail Apple ID. So when I go to enter my password it won't accept because it doesn't match with the old Apple ID, even though it is the same account (just new Apple ID name).
I have tried signing out within the App Store and re-signing in with my Apple ID but it still brings up my old Apple ID name when I try to update. -

There is no Info tab in Mavericks

Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
