Can MDB make synchronous JMS request

I'm trying to find what design patterns are appropriate for certain tasks. I am new to Java EE.
I wanted an MDB to make a JMS request to another MDB, and then listen (for a fixed amount of time) for a response, then finish up and return.
A) Is this possible
B) is this appropriate? Is there a better pattern assuming that the initial work arrives via JMS. Assume the second bean is on a different container instance (performance is a big issue)
In my experiments, the first MDB gets a message, queues it to the second, does a receive with timeout, and gets a null back. Meanwhile the second MDB puts a message on the response queue (I can see it with JMS tools after things calm down).
The NEXT time I send a message to the queue served by the MDB, it sends another message towards the second bean, then RECEIVES THE MESSAGE LEFT OVER FROM THE FIRST ATTEMPT.
I suspect I am running afoul of transaction behavior or some such.
Thoughts?

Thanks
The transactional nature is basically a nuisance. I am doing synchronous processing and if the message vanishes, so be it.
I think my problem is that I need a BMT type MDB, but I don't know how to annotate it. Then I can commit the transaction that caused the bean to activate, and then proceed about my business. Testing implies that the message sent to the second (reflector) bean is not consumed until the original bean returns - which implies, I am guesing, until the original message is committed.
I am open to other patterns. Basically I am trying to understand how to use MDB's to handle synchronous message traffic (powers higher than me dictate the use of JMS, even though it is designed for async processing).
By synchronous, I mean:
send a message
wait X milliseconds for a response
if got response, do happy stuff
else report back timeout
This is a very common service pattern and servlets do it just fine, but I'm stuck with JMS.
I am a novice at Java EE (except servlets) so I may be asking the wrong questions. I am about to post a question that simply asks how to annotate a BMT MDB. Maybe that will help.
Ideas?

  • Where can I make a feature request?

    I have a feature request for the Chat feature of Thunderbird. My request is simple, when double-clicking on a user in an IRC channel, I think it should open up the "conversation" associated with that private message and give it the focus. Currently, it simply crates another "conversation", but leaves is in the background. Where is the current place to make such a request?

    Actually you can have them off for low temp..at least for mine.
    I am actually using an LED strip in the case fan 2 plug
    I have the Z97 Gaming 5.. and in the bios I have the smart fan setup once it hits 40 it lights the led, but then min is 50% (I wish it could be less!) then as the temp increases, it gets brighter.
    At idle, the led is off...
    would be really nice if the case fans had the option for 20% like the cpu..
    So have you looked at the bios fan settings?
    waiiit... I wonder if I could connect it to the CPU fan 2!!! then it can be as low as 20% lol

  • How can I make a catalog request form?

    We have a catalog that we mail out to our customers.  How can I make a form in BC that I can include on my site that will take the customers information and put it somewhere that will let me export that information once a month or so for mailings? Any ideas?  Thanks.
    Josh

    Hi Josh,
    You sure can!
    Couple options I can see...
    1) Have customer fill out a subscription form that will add them automatically to a mailing list after submitting.
    2) Update the purchase form to subscribe customers to a mailing list after purchase.
    In either case you just need to select the list you want the custom to be subscribed into within the web form.  You can export the list or set-up a newsletter campaign to these specific customers.
    Another option is to run a customer/order report based on your filters.  Then use the subscribe option to add the group of customers into an existing mailing list.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can i make Apple Store request my password before installing updates?

    Since we have upgraded to iOS 6, Apple Store is not requesting any password when updating applications we bought. This is annoying as i personally wish to be the only one to have control on my updates.

    What are you talking about?

  • After Mavericks OS upgrade, can no longer make any HTTP requests with the OPTIONS verb

    My machine can no longer make any HTTP requests with the OPTIONS verb. This happens whether I try it curl, postman, or ajax.
    curl -i -X OPTIONS http://www.google.com returns curl: (52) Empty reply from server
    It should return a long string containing a 405 error code.
    I suspect that this is related to the Mavericks upgrade I did earlier this week. I only have one mac (my dev machine) with Mavericks. Other macs are Mountain Lion and they don't have this problem.
    Can anyone else with Mavericks confirm whether or not they have this problem too?
    If this is Mavericks related, anyone know of a fix or workaround?

    Turns out that it wasn't Mavericks related at all. Cisco AnyConnect has a security module running behind the scenes even when you're not VPNed into anything. It was blocking my OPTIONS verb requests. I was able to make these calls after uninstalling.
    Re-installing with Web Security turned off should prevent it from happening. While I was uninstalling I did notice that there was a web security uninstall script in /opt/cisco/vpn/bin but I already committed to taking the whole app off my machine. Simply running that script could have done it too.
    I must give credit to Ben Nadel. It was his blog post that helped me fix this issue.

    Redeemed Bing Voucher for 60 minutes; Skype is requesting me to add credit. Can not make a call. Newer Version..

    *Up to 60 minutes based on rate of $0.023 per minute. A connection fee applies per call. Actual number of minutes may vary depending on calling destination and number of calls made, see: www.skype.com  for details. The value of this code is $2 (US dollars). So that code is at least worth $1.38 for US credit.  Once you validate that voucher your Skype client should reflect the addition of that credit.  You may want to verify that the credit appears in your account. on another Skype client or on Skype for Web.  There's always a possibility that the credit has not synced to your Android device.  It should be automatic but sometimes mobiles run into that issue.  If the credit is everywhere else then it's not an account issue but an issue with the Android client.  You could try clearing the cache or resetting the phone to refresh the app, if that is the problem. Be aware that if the credit is displayed correctly and you are receiving a credit prompt then you may be attempting a remote call that is more expensive than the $1.38 balance. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-7471

  • WLI: Can't call synchronous web services from async business process?

    I have three web services, X, Y, and Z, that I want to call from a business process B. X is asynchronous, Y and Z are synchronous. Therefore, B must be asynchronous. B is called from another business process, A, that must be synchronous. So, I have A call B synchronously using the SyncAsync pattern described in "Best Practices for Oracle WebLogic Integration Application Life Cycle". This worked fine in earlier development when I was only calling X from B. However, when I try to add synchronous calls to Y or Z and run A, I get the following error message from B:
    com.bea.control.classic.ServiceControlException: Attempting to perform the client
    callback 'doY' while servicing a blocking request from the same client.  This can
    result in a deadlock condition.  An @jws:message-buffer tag should be placed on
    the synchronous operation or on this callback.This is obviously an old error message, since it recommends an annotation in the old style. Anyway, what can I do? Shouldn't it be possible to invoke web services synchronously from process B? If so, then how? I don't know what synchronous operation it's talking about -- is it A's call to B? As for the callback, I don't see a separate callback. Annotating the SBControl's method with weblogic.jws.MessageBuffer did no good, and I can't use com.bea.control.annotations.MessageBuffer because the method doesn't return void. Can I make this work without rewriting B, and if so, how? It'd be nice if I could call X, and then call Y and Z while waiting for X's callback.
    Alternatively, I could rewrite my processes so that A calls a new process C synchronously, which in turn calls B (which calls X), Y, and Z. That should work, right? Thanks for any help y'all can give me.

    Greetings everyone,
    We have found a solution to this problem, and it is very much like one offered by Trinidad, except there was some confusion in my understanding.
    http://sql-patch/B1WS/webreferences/LoginService.wsdl
    Indeed, the url http://localhost/Service.asmx appears in the WSDL files, as well as the web.config.
    I changed it to http://sql-patch/B1WS/webreferences/LoginService.wsdl in the WSDL files only.  This did not work.
    We then found it in the web.config file also, and changed it to http://sql-patch/B1WS/webreferences/LoginService.wsdl also.
    The reason I was using this URL is because the files exist there.  Looking at IIS, there is no Service.asmx anywhere in the B1WS path, and this confused me.
    This got us one step further, but now a new error was showing itself -- 405 Method Not Allowed.
    It turns out that the URL we needed to change it to is this:
    http://sql-patch/B1WS/Service.asmx
    That is, we replace localhost with the name of the machine, and NOTHING else.
    This seems to have solved it for us, and is hopefully useful for you.
    Thanks all,
    Mike

  • JMS Request/Response example

    Hi
    I am trying to implement a JMS Request/Response example on glassfish, but i am not getting the correct behaviour.
    My code is below. I am sending a message to a queue and adding the setJMSReplyTo another queue. I call the recv.receive(10000); and wait for the messages to be received. But this call blocks the current thread and the MDB that i orginally sent the message to only gets executed after the recv.receive(10000); has timed out after 10 seconds.
    Can someone confirm that my code is correct or am i doing something wrong?
    Connection connection = null;
    Session session = null;
    String text = "hello";
    try {
    System.out.println("Sending " + text);
    connection = searchDestFactory.createConnection();
    session = connection.createSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    MessageProducer messageProducer = session.createProducer(searchDest);
    TextMessage tm = session.createTextMessage();
    tm.setText(text);
    tm.setJMSReplyTo(destQueue);
    messageProducer.send(tm);
    System.out.println("Sent " + text);
    MessageConsumer recv = session.createConsumer(destQueue);
    connection.start();
    Message m = recv.receive(10000);
    tm = (TextMessage) m;
    if(tm != null) System.out.println(tm.getText());

    } catch (JMSException ex) {

    Glen,
    I have never attempted to use the messaging service the way you have, namely a single instance as both sender and receiver, but I noticed that you do send the message before you register your Consumer. My first and easiest suggestion would be to simply move your consumer block (I would move both lines) above the producer block and try again.
    If that attempt fails, I would implement a MessageListener, once again before the producer block and allow it to handle received messages (no need for recv.receive(10000);)
    Example:
        public class QueueMessageListener implements MessageListener {
            public void onMessage(Message message) {
                try {
                    System.out.println(String.format("From Glassfish: %s received a %s of type %s.", m_Queue.getQueueName(), message.getClass().getName(), message.getJMSType()));
                    System.out.println(printJMSMessage(message));
                } catch (JMSException ex) {
                //handle message here
        }and somewhere before the producer block:
                m_msgListener = new QueueMessageListener();
                m_msgConsumer =  m_Session.createConsumer(m_Queue);
                m_msgConsumer.setMessageListener(m_msgListener);
                m_Connection.start();I feel like I've done my good dead for the day :)

  • When not using EJBs can I make BD a Singleton and cache facade instances?

    Hi,
    In an application which does not use EJBs can I make BD(Business Delegate) a singleton?
    I was very sure about doing this but when I tried Google on the same subject the answers were'nt supportive of this but that was in the context of applications which used EJBs. And also item 4 in Effective Java isnt very supportive of caching Objects at the drop of a hat.
    When not using EJBs would it be an unnecessary thing to make BD a singleton and cahce Facade instances in a BD and DAO instances in a Facade? I am planning to use a array based blocking bounded buffer for the purposes of caching. Or would it be better to make both BD and a facade as SIngletons and just cache DAOs in a Facade?
    Any suggestion would be of good help to me.
    Thanks a lot.

    Not sure I understand all your design, but you seem
    to describe an architecture where requests are queued
    and handled serially.Sorry if I messed up while explaining it. No, it will not be handled serially. Since the BD is a singleton multiple threads can pass messages to it simulteanously, a bit like an object of the Action class in Struts. Since I dont see having any synchronized methods in a BD requests will be handled simulteanously.
    The impact on throughput of handling requests
    serially (as opposed to parallelizing them) probably
    outweights by far the cost of instantiating one more
    object per request...Yes, I understand that but as I explained above the reqests wont be handled serially.
    To be more clear, I am thinking of using any one of these two things:
    1) BD(Singleton)-->Facade(Singleton, caches DAOs in a thread safe data structure)
    2)1) BD(Singleton, caches Facade instances in a thread safe data structure)-->Facade(caches DAOs in a thread safe data structure).
    the thread safe data structure I am planning to have is a array based bounded buffer which blocks using wait and notify mechanism.
    Thank you for the reply.

    Unfortunately, audiobooks and ringtones are the only items on the iTunes store unavailable for re-download through iTunes in the Cloud. What I can go ahead and do is try and re-add these audiobooks back to your download queue for re-download. Please note if they have been removed or modified on the iTunes store they may not be available for re-download. Would this be okay?
    Customer [5:03 p.m.]:
    yes thank you!
    Advisor [5:03 p.m.]:
    Excellent, one moment please.
    Advisor [5:05 p.m.]:
    I apologize but after reviewing your account, it looks like we have already issued 3 exceptions for you to re-download your audiobooks in the past. Back on 02/23/2013. I apologize but we will be unable to do another exception for you.
    Customer [5:06 p.m.]:
    that down load did include the new books of the bible that I had.
    Customer [5:07 p.m.]:
    that down load did not have the new testament books of the bible that I had
    Advisor [5:07 p.m.]:
    While reviewing the notes, this was issued to add all available audiobooks bought on your account. I again apologize but I will be unable to issue another exception to you. As the previous advisor did inform you to make sure to back up your files.
    Customer [5:08 p.m.]:
    the other advisor did not down load the new testament books. The advisor did not restore all of the books that I had originally brought.
    Advisor [5:10 p.m.]:
    While looking closer, the books that you are missing are no longer available to be re-downloaded. This is the reason why they were not added back to your download queue when he issued them. Unfortunately, as we do not handle the content on the iTunes store you will need to get in contact with the publisher of the content as they were the ones two remove or modify these books on the iTunes store. If you would like I can provide a link to their support site.
    Customer [5:11 p.m.]:
    yes they are I saw them.
    Advisor [5:11 p.m.]:
    They may have been modified by the content owner. This will be the reason why they were not added. As Apple does not control 3rd party content on the iTunes store. You will need to get in contact with them as we are unable to re-add this content back to your download queue.
    Customer [5:12 p.m.]:
    it is I just looked at it in the itunes store
    Customer [5:13 p.m.]:
    the material is still the same. The store does have it.
    Advisor [5:13 p.m.]:
    Machelle, if the items have been modified since you bought them, they will be unavailable for us to issue them back to you. You will need to get in contact with the providers for these books as they are the content owners and we do not have access to issue these back to you.
    Customer [5:14 p.m.]:
    the are still the same bible books that I purchased at the store.
    Customer [5:14 p.m.]:
    The audio books are the same. When I buy it again nothing will be different.
    Advisor [5:14 p.m.]:
    Machelle, I understand this. This is what our records are showing. When the previous advisor tried to re-issue them to you they were unable to as they have been modified on the iTunes store.
    Advisor [5:15 p.m.]:
    In order to receive further support for this issue you will need to get in contact with Media Group as they are the content providers for these audiobooks.
    Customer [5:15 p.m.]:
    I will buy them from another source. Don't say they have changed. The books are the same books I brought. They are at the store.
    Advisor [5:16 p.m.]:
    Machelle, Apple does not handle the content for 3rd party publishers on the iTune

    You can use whatever tool you prefer - for someone already using emacs, emacs is a natural choice. Simple, easy to use online tools exist e.g. http://schneegans.de/sv/
    Just upload the file in question ('Validate by file upload' option) and click 'Validate':

    Googling 'xml validation' should give you some more tools / services if this one is not good enough.
