Can my AVG anti-virus check on websites be re-enabled?

My anti virus program, AVG, was checking each website as I accessed them. It also checked the sights as I posted them in the Google program.
When I downloaded Firefox version 5, that feature was disabled. If it can be restored, I'll download 5 again. Otherwise I'll use version 4, or go back to another browser. I don't want to have to do that, because I like Firefox.

Currently there's no known virus affecting iPad as long as you don't Jailbreak your iPad.

In the past, when I opened up a new tab, I used to get the Speed Dial page. I like that. However, since I updated my AVG anti-virus program, now when I open a new tab, I get the AVG search page. Can I change it back so that I get the Speed Dial?

I had that too. On the bottom right of the AVG search page is a link which leads you to where you can switch it off. This restores normal Speed Dial operation.
This hijacking has really cheesed me off. I've just downloaded Avast and am going to put it on in place of AVG.

  • AVG anti virus problems

Any one else having a problem with AVG anti virus or is it just me ? I’ve hear its stopped working for some people. It’s not working right for me at all, as of this morning I have been getting a lot of errors from it every time I try to open a new webpage on Firefox. I get a Connection Rest and have to refresh. Offten more then once.
It keep coming up constantly and its extremely annoying and its hard to get any work done.  It’s the only anti virus that I have so I don’t know what’s wrong with it.
I have the Firefox 3.5 and AVG antivirus 8.5, Win XP
    Error code
    szName avgnxexe
    SzModver 2.5.0.3200
    SzAppver 8.5.0.401

I have read in several places that AVG and firefox do not play well together. I found this on AVG's website. Does any of this help?
It is not possible to access some websites when using Firefox and AVG Security Toolbar
Please let us inform you that we have recently discovered an issue in the AVG application which prevents accessing some websites (written in ASP.NET and running JavaScript). This issue occurs only in case that a combination of AVG Security Toolbar and Mozilla Firefox is used (other web browsers are not affected). In case that you are using Mozilla Firefox browser and AVG Security Toolbar, please resolve this issue this way:
Update your AVG to the latest version (8.5.374 or higher).
    Update the AVG Security Toolbar:
Open the drop-down menu by clicking on the arrow next to the AVG icon in the AVG Toolbar in your internet browser.
    Choose the Update option.
In case the AVG Toolbar is deactivated and you wish to use it again, please activate it by performing steps from FAQ 1643 and update it according to the instructions above (steps for activation are identical to steps for deactivation).
Should the issue persists, please do not hesitate to contact the AVG Technical Support team.

  • How to return to previous version of Firefox that is compatible with AVG Anti-virus.

I just upgraded to Firefox 6(?) as instructed when I logged-in, and now my AVG anti-virus doesn't work. I have paid for it and need it to work. You had no warning about this on the screen for the update. So you need to tell me how to go back to the previous version of Firefox. (I searched your support site, and found notice that this incompatibility is indeed true, but not about what to do, except to stop using Firefox.) Please help. ASAP.

    Web-browsers supported by Kaspersky PURE 3.0 is "Mozilla Firefox 12.х - 23.x."
    So two options
    *wait for update
    *Downgrade to 23 (not recommended)

  • My firefox crashes constantly. I have uninstalled it, tried older versions, and run anti virus checks. Can someone give me any idea of how to fix this?

This has been happening for about two months. It started suddenly, but happens many times a day now.

    That's the million dollar question.
You could split them in half and re-enable 50% of them. If it doesn't crash, then you know the culprit resides somewhere in the remaining half.

  • Firefox 4.0.1. is having problems with AVG anti-virus and overall hangs, crushes often

    Dear Firefox
Why do you upgrade my Firefox 4 browser to this trash, glitchy version of 4.0.1?
I'll delete it, reinstall older version Firefox 4 or even 3.6 and will disable automatic update and installation. If not successful I'll switch to another browser altogether.
Here is why. First of all it is not working good with Avira (When I use Firefox Avira almost always runs AV Guard which is eating 50% of operating memory and slowing down the work of computer significantly).
Then I switched to AVG antivirus. The antivirus seemed good until I opened my Firefox - it began to crash on particular sites, displaying error and forced shutdowns. Crashes happened many times on front pages of facebook.com and yandex.ru.
OK, I lost a day figuring out what went wrong and changed antivirus from AVG to Avast. With that I didn't have problems working on Firefox 4, but today it was automatically upgraded to 4.0.1 and started to crash again.
I suspect this problem has something to do with glitches in Firefox browser, not virus or malware issues.
Can anyone clarify why our browsers were automatically upgrade to such glitchy version?
My brother has Opera and his browser never ever crashed or hanged. Why?
    FarEasterner

PS: did i mention that I am not able to access my online banking, etc? i apologize for the cranky tone of this post, but i am really desperate and need quick assistance in how to remove the current version of firefox and reload the last one.

  • Program interfearing with the AVG Anti virus

I was half sleep when I finally got AVG installed on my computer and wasn't paying attention to the warning about a program that had a bug in it that would mess with the Antivirus program
I think it was called the Rosco Easy DVD and CD Creator but far to my knowledge I've never even used it. I use Nero.
Not that I can even find the Rosco on the computer with the search feature so I am probably not looking in the right place or under the right name. If at all possible instead of updating it like the AVG website suggested I rather just have it uninstalled since I don’t use it.
Any one know how to take it off much less find it ? I’m not very inept around technology, I've had my DVD player for three years and I still don't know how to program it.
Not that I can even use Nero right now since my DVD\CD RWR is not working any way.

You can add an exception to AVG Antivirus. Heres how:
Double click on your AVG icon on the desktop.
Click on Tools at the Menu Bar, And then click "Advanced Settings"
Find Resident Shield, and click on Exceptions.
    You
are now at the directory exclude area. Click on Add Path. Use the Path
Finder to browse to the directory of the program where the false positive
is being detected. Once you find the folder your program is in, click it,
and click OK. Now click OK to get out of the screens

  • Nokia Suite Flagged as Malware by AVG anti-virus

    Nokia Suite:
    http://www.nokia.com/global/support/product/nokia-pc-suite
Attempted installation on Windows XP, SP3.
AVG (current version) flags the installer as malware and stops the installation process.  AVG then forces a cancelation of the installation, and a system restart in order to remove the segments of the installer it thinks is a worm.
I suspect that this is a false positive but the Nokia web site is silent on this problem, i.e it does not guarantee it to be malware or spyware free, and does not recommend turning your AV off in order to install it.
I am not inclined to turn it off.
Nokia, as the developer, needs to contact AVG (Grissoft) to resolve  the problem.

    >> RE:  Barking up the wrong tree...
    I would humbley disagree.
As you can see from the additional threads, both AVG and Avast are showing the problem, and it is due to a segment of the program that is setting something to run at Windows launch.  As postulated by another poster, that is unnecessary.
Applications and AV programs that are incompatible are not uncommon.  Firefox regularly declares AVG's add-ons to be incompatible when there is a Firefox update.  AVG then issues an update and all is well.  This is due to Firefox's date coding for its add-oins and extensions, and not due to a true issue with incompatibility.  The adept user of Firefox can over-ride these or simply wait for the updates.
Ideally, the Nokia installer would have a pre-amble asking if you want to have their PC Suite load when Windows Starts as a part of the end-user dialogue.  This allows the user to say "no" and that segment of the installer would be skipped, and not trigger the AV program(s).
Alternately, now that this is known, and hopefully someone flags it to Nokia via this forum, appropriate wording can be added to the Nokia web site stating that it may trigger some AV programs and to shut them off.  I have also reported this in the AVG user forums as well.
Frankly speaking, the only reason I was attempting to try the Nokia PC Suite was to have an alternative to that gastly bloatware called "Zune."

  • Does Firefox still have conflict issues with AVG anti-virus?

When the box pops up that tells me of the new update available it often says that there may be conflict issues if you are running AVG antivirus software. Does that conflict still exist? I like my AVG and would not like to change so I need to know before I update.
    Thanks for you help!
    Judi

AVG WILL work with FF6.0.1 & FF6.0.2 It's safe search that is the problem see below from AVG: Please rest assured you are still protected by AVG even if you have already upgraded to Firefox 6.0. The AVG Active Surf Shield component is still checking all data and will prevent you from accessing malicious content even though search results verdict icons are not available temporarily.
The solution if you need the icons is to upgrade to AVG2012

    Misc9700,
That is the same question posted on AVG's Forum by me,trying to receive answer.  If you will to the actual post, you will see that I have spent an entire day trying to make sure that I have gotten rid of it.  Not sure.  So, unless I get an answer by early tomorrow, I will be paying my computer guy to come check it out!  Hopeful, an answer will be found to save me the expense & him the trouble.
Just wanted to make sure you realized that the Trojan horse was NOT removed completely.
Apple, any help here will be greatly appreciated.  It seems that ONLY AVG is having this trouble of finding this particular Trojan horse.  Ideas?

  • Do I need to run a third party anti virus checker if I suspect email swishing?

Do I need to run third party antivirus if I suspect email swishing?

I'm not familiar with the term "swishing." Do you mean "phishing," which is the act of trying to trick you into divulging personal information or installing malware through an e-mail message that pretends to be from a legit company?
If so, and if you clicked the link, there are some things we need to know before we can be sure you are safe:
    - What version of Mac OS X are you running (see About This Mac in the Apple menu if you don't know)?
    - Do you have Java enabled in your web browser? (See disable Java in your web browser, if is isn't already disabled, the answer is yes.)
    - If Java is enabled, is Java actually installed? (Go to Java Tester... do you see a pink rectangle, and if so, what does it say?)

  • Can any anti-virus protection software be used with Mac?

I was wondering how to protect my laptop from viruses etc and whilst looking i've found no software thats for Mac,
Can anyone suggest anything or know of any software to help?
    Thanks,

You can get Norton Anti-Virus for Mac here:
    http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/overview.jsp?pcid=ma&pvid=nav10 mac
Bear in mind that (as far as I know) there are no viruses that have been found to infect OS X. The Norton package above is intended to make sure that your Mac files are clean of PC viruses so that you don't infect your PC-based friends.

  • Anti-virus for Windows on my Mac Pro

I have recently purchased my Mac Pro and would like to install VMware Fusion in order to put Windows Vista on my system. (Have a lot of old PC storage I want to bring in.) What is a good anti-virus program for this type of installation?
    Thanks,
    3D Dad

I use Fusion to run Win XP Pro on my Mac Pro, as well. While I mostly use it to access my company's network using a set of company-supplied Windows utilities -- I'm satisfied with the overall result. For anti-virus protection, I use AVG Free Anti-Virus. Every time I run Fusion or Boot Camp, AVG Free AV checks for updates (too frequently, for my preferences); but it scans my system for viruses every time as well (a scan frequency that I really like). So, overall, it works well.
I don't tend to use my Win XP applications very much, so I try to only use freeware there. (But I had to buy SnagIt -- an excellent tool for capturing anything on your screen, including videos.) Otherwise, I have this bunch of freeware applications installed (and occasionally used):
    1. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
    2. AVG Anit-SpyWare Free Edition
    3. Mozilla Firefox
    4. Mozilla Thunderbird
    5. Apple Quicktime
    6. Apple iTunes
    7. Apple Bonjour for Windows
    8. Free Launchbar
    9. Irfan View
    10. VLC Media Player
    11. doPDF
    12. Anti-AdWare 2007
    13. FileZilla FTP client
    14. WinPatrol

  • 10.5.5 break anti-virus mail server stops working

We updated to 10.5.5 and suddenly our server stopped forwarding mail.
I noticed in the logs that the anti-spam and anti-virus (clamav etc.) were failing to update and run. The server was brutally slow. I turned off the anti-virus checks and everything is working again after two days of searching.
Any idea what broke and how a newbie could fix it?
    Thanks,

I've had to turn off virus scanning to get any forwarding done.
The spam filter is working but the server grinds to a halt every few minutes, then catches up. Like it's trying something, gives up, and then goes back to work for a bit until it tries again.
The server is running web services and mail forwarding to the University only.
Our firewall restricts outgoing (internet) from the server only accepting incoming requests. That way if it gets hacked it can't attack anyone. We're able to run mac updates via the University software update server (local outgoing is allowed).
Thank you again for any help you can offer.
