Can not attach files

I can not attach files in my emails. I have to use web mail which I do not like.
I select attachment in mac mail and nothing happens.
This is really a pain.
Help
Thanks

Not sure why this problem exist but reinstalling just Macmail will most likely not solve the problem.
If "Cocobop" deleted the "com.apple.mail.plist"? This is kinda the same as a reinstall. Mac applications do not normally just go bad. The answer may be in a reinstall of OSX or an "Archive and Install" of OSX.
But to those reading this post try deleting the "com.apple.mail.plist" first.
And yes the answer to your question... You can reinstall only the Macmail app.

  • Can not attach files to certain mail accounts in mail

I have three e-mail accounts (pop3) which I use Mail to get and send mail. But it seems I can only attach files to one account and not the other two accounts. the only workaround I found is to start attaching the files to the account which can take attachments and before I sent switch to the other account. Surprisingly the Attachment stays.
    any idea

    Hi Caroline,
Are you trying to attach a file to the message without typing anything in the message body? You need to have typed something, even a space, in the message body before attachments will attach.
Not sure exactly when, but this has been a 'feature' of Mail for a while now, and one that I personally dislike.

  • Can not attach files to email, can't reply to or forward selected emails.

I've seen others post this problem, but have not been able to find the solution. What has happened is I suddenly cannot attach any files... pdfs, jpgs, docs or anything to my emails. Also, when I hit the reply or forward button on some emails that I have received, nothing happens. On a few, a reply or forward window does open, but there is no rhyme or reason to why some work and some don't. At any rate, I can't attach any files to any of my mail.... new ones, ones I'm trying to reply to or anything. I've seen that others have had this problems occur, but I have not found a solution based on any of the replies. Oh! The other thing is that its only happening on one of my computers. I have an older G4 that has the same mail setup and everything works fine. Its only on my G5 that this happens. I've tried tossing some preferences as suggested from some of the other posts, but still the same. Help me!

    How crazy would it be...
OOPs, you don't want to ask me... I always resort to crazy things when nothing else works!
Quit Mail. First I'd backup your whole Mail folder. Right click on it, choose Archive. Move the Mail.zip to a safe place. Only the plist will be separate.
Try dragging this file to the Desktop, (in case we need to put it back), first, then logout/in, reconfigure your account required on this one...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
If that doesn't work, now that you're all backed up & can get back where you are now... give it a rtry!

  • Can not attach file to g-mail

Latley I am not able to attach files in my G-mail. There are small Word files. Everytime I try it, finder freezes. My  8 year old Thinkpad is faster than my Macbook Air!

You are mostly misinterpreting the problem (and 'view as icon' will only mask the 'solution').
You see, what you are experiencing is a facet of your email application.
What other users see will be a facet of their email application.
To explain, if you're using Mail.app you should be aware that Mail.app can interpret and display a wide variety of file formats - images, PDF, video, etc., etc.
When you 'attach' such a file to a message Mail.app, by default, displays the content since this is what most people want. You have the option to just display an icon, but that's only really relevant for you.
When the recipient gets the message what they see depends upon their client. If their client can interpret and render file attachments then they'll see the image. If it can't, they'll see an attachment link.
Moreover, you have no control over this. It is entirely dependent on the mail client you are using, and the mail client the recipient is using. Even if you attach a file and 'view as icon', that has no bearing on whether it will appear as an icon or an inline document when it gets to the recipient - that's up to their browser abilities/settings (just like attaching as an image won't display as an image on the recipient's system if they can't display the file format, or their preferences are set to not do so).
So knock yourself out viewing your attachments as icons, but don't expect that it will make any difference to the recipient.
The only way you can overcome this is to send attachments in a file format that can't normally be displayed, such as a .zip archive.

  • Can not attach files in an e-mail

If I use internet explorer 7 I can attach e-mail. But using Firefox 3.6.23 I can not.

Try to clear cache and cookies by doing the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.

  • Can't attach files in any email AOL, yahoo, or company. Also only shows blank page when accessing yahoo email.

In any web mail program AOL, Yahoo, my companies you can not attach files when composing an email. By the attach button/icon it says "no file selected" (or when you hover over it). This happens in safe mode also. Also browser speed is very slow. After logging in to my yahoo mail I get a blank page. In the title bar it says I have x amount of emails.
I reinstalled Firefox and for about 60 seconds it was fast and yahoo opened fine and I was able to attach emails in yahoo and my company account. After that it reverted back to being slow and not attaching and opening yahoo to a blank page.
I have run spybot and malware and removed all found threats. I believe something is infecting Firefox. IE and Chrome do not have this problem. Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss.

antivirus was not a problem since there was not one installed. Firewall settings are fine. I did just finally resolve this issue. Spyhunter was able to detect a couple of hijackers that the other programs did not and this fixed the problem. As I stated in the original post I did suspect this was the issue. The lesson learned is to run multiple malware programs until you find one that eliminates the problem if you suspect malware as the problem.

  • HT6114 why i can not attach new pdf files  to my email

why i can not attach new pdf files  to my email ?

If you aren't getting the reset link on the Password & Security section of your account then you don't have a rescue email address (an alternate email address is different), and you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions - you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security
If your country isn't on that page then try this form to contact Support :  https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
When they've been reset you can then add a rescue email address for potential future use : Manage your Apple ID primary, rescue, alternate, and notification email addresses
Or if it's available in your country you could change to 2-step verification : Frequently asked questions about two-step verification for Apple ID

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only Guest login created by Find My Mac.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Can't Attach Files in 10.9 Mail via Menubar/Toolbar

All of a sudden I cannot attach files in Mail via menu commands.  A selection (finder) window opens but all items are grayed out (no matter what location).  I can still attach files by dragging them from the Desktop (or other location) into the body of the email.
    Isolation:
-Issue persists in Safari when logging into webmail.
--Choosing to "attach" a file to an email (new composure or reply) from the webmail attach links brings up a Finder window with all content grayed out.
    -Created test admin user.
    --logged in as new user.
--set up Mail w/ an email account.
--attempted file attachment from menubar/toolbar icons.
    --works.
    ***issue is user specific.
    Resolution:
    -Access primary user ~/Library/Preferences/.
--locate files named "com.apple.finder" .plist (may have multiple files w/ additional characters).
--select all and move to Trash.
    --Restart.
    -log in and test.

I've tried in Safari, Camino and Firefox -- no luck.
It does work if I switch to the "older version" of Gmail.
Does anybody know if there's a setting I can change so I can use Gmail normally but be able to add attachments to mail?
    Anybody else having this issue?
Your profile indicates you are running a very old version of Leopard which might explain the issue.
Update to 10.5.8 using the combo update (not the auto software update) and see if that fixes your problem.

    Hi Naveen,
While I am searching for attaching files to oracle forms in forum, I found you. I have a question; probably you could help me out. I have a custom form which needs to have the facility to open the text files from C drive and load the data into Oracle tables.
The custom form will be attached to Oracle apps responsibility... We are currently using forms6i.
Could you help me out to open a dialog box which provides the users to open the text files from C drive when user clicks on a button
I have attached d2kcomm and d2kwutil to the form. It complies at the form level
but still it is not showing the dialog box.
I would appreciate if you can help me in this regard.
    Thanks in Advance

  • All of a sudden today I can't attach files in gmail using Mozilla...can in IE & Chrome.

I have cleared cache, cookies, defragged, cleaned computer. I have looked at all the solutions on line and can't figure out why all of a sudden I can't attach files in Mozilla but can using IE & Chrome. Please help. I have not done anything between when I turned the computer off last night and turned it on today.

Mine suddenly broke as well today. I tried everything from resetting firefox, to clearing cache, to starting ff in safe mode. No change. I finally figured out if I turned off popup blocking, it would work. I then figured out I could add mail.google.com to the popup exceptions list and voila, it worked!

  • Can't attach files in Gmail since upgrading

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can't attach files either in Safari (4.0) or Firefox (3.5.2) in gmail. I've upgraded to the latest version of flash.
Does anyone else have this problem -- and a solution, hopefully?
I'm using gmail's 'Advanced Attachment' features. Turning this off solves the problem, but even the 'advanced' setting worked before Snow Leopard.
    Thanks,

Usability and interface issues with Gmail aside, I did figure something out. (I don't really use Gmail, it just seemed like a good at the time when I was setting up an account for a friend so I could help out with issues.)
I couldn't add attachments to a new message either. In fact, when I clicked the link to add an attachment, the link disappeared. I discarded the message, opened a new one, click the add attachment link, and the link disappeared again.
Turning off the blocking of pop-up windows didn't change the outcome.
So I opened a new message and looked around.
I noticed a little icon in the upper right of the message, just above the To: field, a sort of double square with an arrow in it. It looked almost like icon used on Windows to indicate maximizing the window for full screen, except it had an arrow that looked like the "Forward" arrow when you want to forward a message instead of replying. No tool tip came up so I decided to try it.
This made the message disappear, and popped open a new smaller window which eventually loaded the message. Looked about the same as before but without the rest of Gmail. Curiously, the add attachments link actually worked, without disappearing. A dialog popped open (looked like from the OS, not a browser window) and I was able to select a file. It appeared listed below the subject and above the message, with a progress indicator that took several seconds (half a minute?) before any progress happened. It did eventually get started and completed the upload.
