Can restore backupset files from tape library to disk?

Hi,
I need to explain my scenario/position:
We backup our database every night to disk this command:
configure channel device type disk format "/backup/%d_%T_%s.%U";
backup filesperset 4 database;
After backup job is done create a lot of backupset files in /backup directory. And after we backup this backupset files to tape library, this command:
CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS 'ENV=(NSR_SERVER=legato, NSR_CLIENT=dbserver)';
backup device type 'SBT_TAPE' backupset completed after "sysdate-1" format '%d_%T_%s.%U';
we backed up all backupset files to tape library (SBT_TAPE). And delete backupset files on disk.
Here my questions:
How can i restore these backupset files to disk? I dont mean, restore database, datafiles, tablespace etc. I mean restore original backupset files to disks?
Database version:9.2.0.6 and we use rman catalog database.
Thanks..

I'm not sure why manual managment is risky. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back-up), what difference does manual versus automatic management make? I for one will certainly be the last to argue against backing up files. But I don't see where this is related to how a person chooses to manage their iPod, either manual or auto.
Scenario 1: Restore iPod, now iPod files are gone, iTunes is empty for whatever reason. Manual versus auto: irrelevant. There's nothing there to manage until iTunes is replenished anyway.
Scenario 2: Restore iPod, iPod files gone, iTunes still loaded. Manual versus auto: matter of personal preference.
Scenario 3: iPod is OK, but iTunes is empty for whatever reason. Manual versus auto: ON AUTO, PLUG IN YOUR IPOD AND LOSE EVERYTHING ON IT. On manual, everything on iPod is still safe. Right?
Sceanrio 4: iPod is OK, iTunes is OK, business as usual. Keep adding songs in iTunes. Manual versus auto: matter of personal preference.
Scenario 3 is enough to keep me away from auto. I bow to the opinions of all you experienced folks out there, but I've read so many posts from the iPod veterans suggesting to the newbies that they use auto management and back-up their files. I agree with the back-up suggestion, but I whole heartedly disagree that auto management is better and manual management is risky. I don't understand why manual would be more risky than auto. In fact, it seems to me that auto would be more risky.
I like manual: things aren't happening out of my control. I control what's on iPod, I control what's in iTunes. If I want to add to or delete from one or the other but not both, I have that freedom. I see no risk.
Can someone explain to me if I'm misunderstanding or missing something?

  • Can't drag files from itunes library (to anywhere) anymore.

Recently I've noticed I can no longer drag files from the library in my itunes. I can't drag them to playlists, and I can't drag them to the desktop.
I have repaired permissions and even tried removing the library.xml file and let it generate a new one, but I still get the same result.
I am on a mac os 10.6.8 Macbook Pro.
I'm not sure when ths started happening, but I wonder if it has something to do with an itunes update. I have the newest version and always dwnload the updates. I can still add files to the library by control-clicking the files and selecting the option in the dropdown list. This isn't an intentional change in the way the program works is it? Is no one else having this problem??

Iphone will sync or manually manage with one and only one computer at a time.
Syncing or manually managing to another will indeed erase the current content and replace with the content from the new computer.

How can i copy files from one external hard drive to another using macbook pro with retina display?

That's odd - if you open Disk Utility (Applications->Utilities) and select the disk(s), how are they formatted? If you're only going to be used with your Mac, they should be formatted as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".

  • Restore backup pieces from tape to disk

    Hello,
I want to restore the backup pieces from tape to disk.   Is there any way of getting those bacup pieces to disk.
I have contacted storage team, that they can't copy the files, only through rman utility the files can be used.
I just need to restore the files from tape to disk.  No, need to restore the database.  I just need this for future purpose...
    Thanks,
    Ramesh G

You can try to use LIST BACKUP to get the backup piece name and then use Veritas tool to restore the backup piece from tape to disk.

  • Restore invisible files from CD

Im not so sure to place topic here, but suppose to find answer of the problem.
Here is a dvd disc with audio files, but after burning on pc, they are unseen on Mac and pc computers both. Look at Google and find a software
    CDR Diagnostic/pc,
that can see and restore the files, but it is for win only. My question is:
Wich program for Mac can restore invisible files from CD? I need equivalent to CDR Diagnostic for mac. Will aprecciate any help, thanks.

Windows machines can read Windows files, most of the time. As far as Windows is concerned, the Mac does not exist. They make no accommodation for its unique file formats, and it is not unusual for Windows to "loose" portions of Mac files and entire Mac files.
I expect that if you could read the CDR perfectly, you would find that your files never made it to the CDR.
The solution is to make it possible for the Mac to burn those CDs. The Mac can make a CD that reads just fine in a PC, and the Blue & White G3 can be upgraded to do it.

  • Can I restore MY RATINGS from the library.xml file alone?

That's the question - Can I restore MY RATINGS from the library.xml file alone?
Some facts to consider before replying:
    1. I do not have the ITL file, so that solution is out.
    2. My ipod was restored so NO ratings there either.
    3. So far I have only seen programs to use BEFORE losing your itunes library. IF YOU KNOW a third party's program can help me AFTER THE FACT then tell me about it.
    4. I HAVE searched these forums for previous threads. (a) searching engine needs big help and (b) among the 2 dozen finds, no solution for "only XML" found. If you got THAT threads url, post it!
So, using an old library.xml file, is there a way to get this info into itunes.
    thanks

  • HT201250 Can I restore photo files from Time Machine without the use of an external drive?  I'm trying to restore lost photo files and I see them listed in Time Machine (without use of an external drive), but when I try to restore I get a error code 36.

Can I restore photo files from Time Machine without the use of an external drive?  While I was transferring photos back and forth from a thumb drive something went haywire and my IPhoto was wiped clean!  When I click on Time Machine I see all the dated pages (without an external storage drive connected), go back to a date where all my photo files are there, click "restore", and I get the message:  "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in file cant be read or written (error code - 36)"

Thanks so much Terence.  I tried some of the fixes from that page, but then discovered the suggestion to compress the Time Machine Back up of the original library and transfer it as a zip back to my computer as detailed here:
    http://pondini.org/TM/E9.html
That worked like a charm.  I really appreciate it.

  • How can I restore iCloud files from my lost iPhone

I backed up my files to icloud. But I lost my Iphone last week. How can I restore my files from icloud to my macbook ?

Are you using Photostream?  If yes, then you will be able to see your 1000 most recent photos on your Mac in iPhoto.
All your contacts, calendar events, emails, etc. will still be on your Mac as part of iCloud.
If you didn't import your videos from your iPhone to your Mac, then you've lost them unless you can restore your cloud backup to another iOS device.

  • HELP! How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?

    Hi,
I am having a few problems with bootcamp on my imac. When i tried to move the bootcamp partition on windows 7 into free space, it crashed and turned off. Ever since i have had the error 'Missing operating system' and it fails to boot. I have some very important files on the bootcamp partition. Is it possible to recover these files or even to restore the bootcamp partition to it's original state? I do not have a backup of my bootcamp partition. Another problem i have is that ever since i tried to expand my macintosh HD partition into free space, when i hold alt while booting up (to choose which partition to boot like i normally do), the bootcamp partition has stopped appearing. This means that i cannot even boot the windows 7 bootcamp partition anymore!
So basically here are my 2 questions:
How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?
How can i make the Bootcamp partition appear in Startup Disk and when i hold the option key while starting up my computer to allow me to boot windows 7?
Any solutions are very much apreciated!
    Thanks!
I know that bootcamp (disk0s4) hasn't been fully deleted since it appears in disk utility (i cant do anything to it though)
And here is the error i see when i try to launch bootcamp (back when i was actually able to boot up bootcamp to the error screen)

WinClone 3 is OS X and saves Windows image it makes for restore - that should work but you will have to try and you would need to make a new image unless it also works with a native Windows system restore image. It is now supported and has come a long way.

Paragon Clone OS works and does disk-to-disk clone just like CCC you end up with two bootable drives. But does not work with your setup. It would let you clone and move your Windows install to an SSD or another disk drive though and be bootable.
During its clone process it checks for errors which is very helpful and lets you know - something CCC and others should adopt more of.

  • How can I recover files from an iPod Touch (4th gen) prior to a required restore?

How can I recover files from an iPod Touch (4th gen) prior to a required restore?
The iPod Touch was working perfectly fine.  iTunes suggest that I update the iPod Touch to the latest operating software, and I proceeded to do so.  Then a message popped up stating that the iPod Touch needs to be fully restored - and that all data will be lost.  The iPod Touch now displays the 'plug into iTunes' screen, and is stuck there.  There are irreplaceable family momentos on the iPod Touch.  How can I recover files from an iPod Touch prior to a required restore?  HELP...

Your only hope is to contact a data recovery company. When it shows the connect to iTunes screen the iPod is essentially deleted.
You can restore from an existing backup

    Hi there Br0x,
You may want to try rebuilding the iTunes library as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File Export Originals. I think then Pictures LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF

Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File>Export>Originals. Then Pictures>LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF and or DNG files. I know Im stuck on something dumb but I am stuck. Help?

You now need to import those files into Lightroom.
BTW, Lightroom uses a "referenced" system so your images will always be in the folders you download/copy them to. Lightroom is a database first and foremost, albeit with non-destructive editing capabilities (effectively Adobe Camera Raw).

  • Device dead, need to restore backup files from Palm 515 desktop software to Centro desktop software. Can it be done??

Ok, here's the story:  My palm515 died about a year ago and since then I've been operating exclusively from my desktop software, until I recently bought a Palm Centro.  Instructions said to hotsync to device, install new Centro Software, then hotsync back from device onto the desktop program.  Problem is, I don't have a device to hotsync to because it's dead!  I have backups of desktop, so I tried installing Centro Software per instructions.  Centro Software said that it couldn't overwrite the old program, that I would manually have to uninstall it.  Ok.  But when I tried to go back into my old desktop software, it wouldn't even execute, like the Centro software had already begun to delete it.  So I reinstalled the old 515 software thinking I wanted to at least do another triple-dog-check backup to two different locations, maybe even print stuff out in case it woudn't restore to the new software.  Worst case scenario I have to type everything back in but at least I still have it.  But now i can't figure out how to restore backup files to the 515 software!  It keeps looking for .ada files but the backup files are .bak and it won't recognize them.  How the heck do you restore a backup on this thing!  OR, can I just install the new Centro software and restore the files from there.
Somebody PLEASE tell me how this can be done.  My entire life, my business, all my clients, my appointments, my phone numbers, addresses, my records for my taxes, EVERYTHING is in there!
    thanks,

Assuming you are not running Vista, and that you have copied the User folder with the .dat and .bak files to a safe location outside the Palm folder, completely uninstall the Access Desktop that came with your Centro and download and install 4.1.4e from Palm's download page.
If you can get the m515 data in there by copying the User folder or Importing Data and sync the Centro you should be fine. Once it all appears where it should (Desktop and Centro) you can delete the User folder copy you copied for the process.
