Can SQL server 2014 instance be introduced into SQL server 2012 clustering

Hello, everyone,
We have SQL server clustering set up in place (it is actually windows clustering), I am wondering if it is possible to introduce SQL server 2014 instance
into this clustering. Please share us your thoughts and experiences.
Thanks

if you are talking about SQL clustering -(FAILOVER CLUSTERED  INSTANCES) , yes, you can do that.
you have windows cluster with nodea,nodeb....and you can install two different instances of failover clustered sql - sql 2012 and sql 2014.
Hope it Helps!!

  • Create MS SQL Server 2014 instance for TSQL2012 sample database Training kit (70-461)

    Hi,
    I just bought the Training kit (70-461) Querying Microsoft SQL server 2012. I downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2014. I have also downloaded the script for the sample database -
    TSQL2012.sql.
    Basically I want to set up the sample database and practice my SQL queries. How do I log into
    Microsoft SQL Server 2014? Basically I am doing this on my home computer. It is asking me for Server type, Server name, and Authentication. Do I have to set up a server instance to run and create the sample database? How?
    Thanks.
    Peter

    Do you see anything in the Server Name at all?
    So, in the first drop down you need to select Database Engine.
    In the second (for Server Name) if you see anything, then try selecting it.
    If there is nothing, try methods described in this article
    http://sqlserver-help.com/2011/06/19/help-whats-my-sql-server-name/
    to find the actual name.
    Then, try choosing Windows Authentication and try connecting. If this would not work, then you do need to try using sa and sa's password. If there is no way to find that sa password, then perhaps it's better to clearly uninstall and re-install. If you want,
    I'll move your thread into either 'Getting Started' or Data Access forum as it doesn't seem to be related with Transact SQL.

  • Can't import office 2010/13 files into SQL Server. I'm out of ideas!

    Hi
    I have SQL Server 2012 installed on my Windows 8.1 Instance.  I want to be able to import and export data to Access 2013 files *accdb.  I have Office 64 bit installed on my machine.  I have searched a lot and can't find exactly what to do
    to fix this.  I have even done a clean install of SQL, but still no bananas.
    I have downloaded and installed Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 but that didn't help.
    Any ideas?

    OK, now I know why I have never solved this problem.  When I try to install Microsoft Access
    Database Engine 2010 32 bit version, I get an error saying I cannot install the 32 bit version while running Office 2013 64 bit.
    I found this blog http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-civil-3d/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-install-64-bit-Microsoft-Database-Drivers-alongside-32-bit-Microsoft-Office.html
    which talks about the opposite problem, but not my problem.  Does anyone know of a work around to install the 32bit version of ADE with 64 bit Office?

  • How to restore a database backup taken from a SQL Server 2012 instance to SQL Server 2014

    I am trying to restore a database backup taken from a SQL Server 2012 instance to my new SQL Server 2014 instance.  When I add the .bak through the Mgmt studio UI, it does not seem to find a backup set in the file so I cannot proceed (does not give
    me any errors though either.  I tried restoring through TSQL command but only got a database restore terminating abnormally error with no other details.  How can I restore this database to SQL 2014?

  • Can't connect to remote SQL Server 2014 Standard with VS 2012

    Hi all,
    I am trying to create a development environment using SQL Server 2014 (not Express).  The SQL server instance is on a Windows 8.1 Pro machine in a non-domain environment.  I have Visual Studio 2012 installed on the same machine which can connect
    to the SQL server instance without problems.  I have another machine with VS 2012 that cannot connect.  SQL server is configured for mixed authentication.  The SSDT on the remote machine can see the SQL server networked instance, but will not
    connect with SQL authentication.
    I have rounded up all the usual suspects;
    - The SQL server service is running
    - Remote connections are enabled on SQL server and the relevant firewall ports are open.
    - TCP/IP and named pipes are enabled
    - Remote connections are enabled in Management Studio
    - SQL Server Browser service in enabled and running
    What am I missing?  I have been out of developer mode for a few years and all of the tools have changed, but I seem to be missing something obvious.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tim

    Hello,
    Have you configured the Windows Firewall on the Visual Studio computer too? Is there any other security software on those
    2 computers?
    Can you ping between both computers by computer name? If not, try connecting using the IP address. For example:
    10.0.0.10,1433
    1433 is the default SQL Server port number.
    Hope this helps.

  • Installing SQL Server 2014 Express package as ClickOnce prerequisite

    I'm using clickOnce and deploying an installer with it.
    I have tried various settings. Using SQL Server 2008 Express and SQL Server 2012 Express as prerequisite is all ok (I've dowloaded them and set the option of clickonce "download prerequisites from the same path of app").
    Now I'm trying to do the same thing with SQL Server 2014 Express.
    Since the SQL Server 2014 Express package isn't alredy done line 2008 and 2012 versiones, I'm trying to create it.
    I have done and it seems to work, but while installing it gives error number **-2054422506**. It is a very generic error and I don't understand it.
    It appears a pop up saying the installation is stopped because it is an error installing SQL Server Express 2014 and to look the log for more infos.
    The log only says:
        Installing using command
        'C:\Users\VIRTUA~1\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD24F4.tmp\SqlExpress2014\
        SQLEXPR32_x86_ITA.EXE' and parameters '/q /action=Install /features=SQL
        /instancename=SQLEXPRESS /securitymode=SQL /sapwd=234692Is
        /sqlsvcaccount="NT Authority\Network Service'
        Process exited with code -2054422506
        Status of package 'SQL Server 2014 Express' after install is 'InstallFailed'
    So, I've tried to install SQL Server 2014 Express manually, without ClickOnce, and it works. So I think I've made some mess in the xml file of the package.
    My package is so build (in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v8.1A\Bootstrapper\Packages\):

    In the same file, I've inserted custom parameters, first like in the 2008 and 2012 versions, then doing some attempts (without success).
    Did anyone have this problem? How did you have manage it?
    **NOTE**: I'm using my clickOnce deploy in an empty virtual machine, so there aren't any conflicts o something similar.
    More attempts, more failures, always the same error! I'm deleting the optional stuff to study better the core of the xml, but still no success.. does microsoft have a package of sql server 2014 express?

    thanks! =)
    SqlServer usually runs a file (SqlExpressChk.exe) to see if there is already an installation and a sql instance called sqlExpress (for the express installations). Do you know how can do this test with the bootstrapper manifest generator?
    I am not able to test it currently, but I assume that will also check whether that has installed.
    You have tested it, right?

  • How to install a Business Contact Manager 2013 database on SQL Server 2014

    When I use the BCM Database Tool 2013 to create a database on a server, it doesn't pick up on any of my SQL Server 2014 instances. So far I can only get it to pick up SQL Server 2008 R2 instances in order to install the BCM database.
    Someone  mentioned that it works with SQL Server 2012, so is there any way to get it work on the 2014 version? I don't want to have to install 2008 or 2012 just for the sake of BCM.

    The SQL Server might be offline.
    The SharePoint Foundation database access account might not have the necessary permissions to communicate with the SQL Server.
    A firewall that runs on either the local server or on SQL Server might be blocking network communications.
    Big question, how you trying to connect SQL  windows or sql authentication? is it throwing error on Config wizard or somewhere else?

    I have seen the following new T-SQL features:
    1. In-memory OLTP tables.
    2. Inline specification of CLUSTERED and NONCLUSTERED indexes is now allowed for disk-based tables.
    3. The SELECT … INTO statement is improved and can now operate in parallel.
    Any others?  Thanks.

  • SQL Server 2014 reseting isolation level

    Hi,
    Working with C# application accessing SQL Server 2012 and 2014 using ADO.NET.
    There seem to be a change regarding isolation level reset when returning connection to pool.
    Previous versions of SQL Server does not reset the isolation level on the connection (unfortunately) as claimed here (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=972915).
    However it seems this has changed with SQL Server 2014.
    If running the attached code it shows that the isolation level in fact is reset when running against a SQL Server 2014 instance but not 2012.
    Can anyone on the SQL Server team confirm that this is an intended change that is here to stay? I have not seen any documentation on this so far in the behavior changes documented here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143359.aspx
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    TestIsolationLevelReset();
    Console.ReadLine();
    public static void TestIsolationLevelReset()
    var connectionString = @"Data Source=(local); Integrated Security=true; Initial Catalog=master;";
    var commandText = @"select cast (transaction_isolation_level as nvarchar) + ' - ' + CAST(@@spid as nvarchar) from sys.dm_exec_sessions where (session_id = @@SPID)";
    using (var conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString))
    conn.Open();
    var cmd = new SqlCommand(commandText, conn);
    Console.WriteLine(cmd.ExecuteScalar());
    using (var tran = new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.Required, new TransactionOptions() { IsolationLevel = IsolationLevel.Serializable }))
    using (var conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString))
    conn.Open();
    var cmd = new SqlCommand(commandText, conn);
    Console.WriteLine(cmd.ExecuteScalar());
    tran.Complete();
    using (var conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString))
    conn.Open();
    var cmd = new SqlCommand(commandText, conn);
    Console.WriteLine(cmd.ExecuteScalar());

    Is that possible to know, or must I always ask SQL Server what has been negotiated?
    The negotiated version is the highest version supported by both client and server.  According to
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd304523.aspx, the Server versions are:
    SQL Server 7.0 7.0
    SQL Server 2000 7.1
    SQL Server 2000 SP1 7.1 Revision 1
    SQL Server 2005 7.2
    SQL Server 2008 7.3.A
    SQL Server 2008 R2 7.3.B
    SQL Server 2012 7.4
    SQL Server 2014 7.4
    I can't speak to the exact TDS versions supported by SqlClient.  On my PC, .NET 4.0 and above against a SQL 2014 box used TDS 7.4 where as 3.5 and earlier used TDS 7.3.
    Based on this, I wouldn't expect the isolation level behavior change if SQL Server 2012 and 2014 is the only difference.  What version of .NET are you using?

  • Data look up into SQL

    Hi, <br />I have a turnkey set up of Adobe Livecycle 8 running with mySQL and JBOSS on Windows 2003 Server. I also have SQL MSDE installed on the same computer. The goal is to create a SQL data look up from livecycle into SQL. Unfortunately I am running into a couple of issues. <br />In the LC process I have a query single row activity. When I try to enter something in the Datasource Name and try to test my query I get <br />Exception: SQL_LF not bound. Cause: SQL_LF not bound<br /><br />SQL_LF is the data source name I was trying to get to work. How do I get the correct JNDI connection string? I looked online almost the entire day, and I still can't quite get it working. As I understand I need to create a data connection from jboss into SQL and then have livecycle use that data connection. In order to accomplish that I create mssql-ds.xml in C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\jboss\server\all\deploy directory with the following text:<br /><br /><?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><br /><datasources><br />  <local-tx-datasource><br />    <jndi-name>SQL_LF</jndi-name><br />    <connection-url>jdbc:sqlserver://localhost;instancename=lf;databaseName=test</connection- url><br />    <driver-class>com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver</driver-class><br />    <user-name>XXXXXX</user-name><br />    <password>XXXXXXX</password><br />  </local-tx-datasource><br /></datasources><br />When I try to make SQL_LF a datasource name it doesn't recognize it. I also tried to enter every imaginable string into that Datasource Name field in LC and it still doesn't work. Is there a paper or a manual on a standard process to create a JNDI link in livecycle to a SQL database?<br /><br />Thanks in advance

    Have you tried to put java:/SQL_LF or java/SQL_LF.
    Also make sure you rebooted you JBoss after creating your *-ds.xml file.
    Do you have any error in the log. I've seen instance where the ds file would not deploy properly when created with Notepad.

  • Migrating iCloud stored Contacts into Mac Server

    I am about to set-up a server enviroment. Currently all our addresses are stored ( and shared ) in iCloud. With Mac server installed shortly I want to use the server contacts feature.
    How can one migrate the data from iCloud into the server contacts preferably keeping the groups as well.
    Thanks in advance for any elp, hint, guideline etc. etc.

    O.K. that's possible but one has to do that seperately for each calendar. Lengthy process.
    Perhaps there is an easier way ?
