Can Statcounter be embeded in an iweb site?

Hey guys...on the old site I had the designer connected the free statcounter: http://www.statcounter.com/
Does anyone know if this is possible with iweb, and if so, how to do it???
Thanks!
Dan

1. Publish your site via iWeb
2. Find your html files.
Go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Pagename.html
(If you publish to a folder, look in the folder you selected or try looking in your Sites folder of your home folder. )
There are two ways to handle accessing your iDisk.
Method 1:
Turn on local copy of your iDisk in System Prefs, with or without automatic syncing.
If you publish your site via iWeb, now the updated pages exist online but the old pages are on your local iDisk. You need to sync (automatically or manually) to get the new pages on your local iDisk (on your computer).
Then you can open the updated files, make your html changes in Text Edit or whatever program, and SYNC AGAIN (automatically or manually) to update the online version of the site to match what you have just changed on your local iDisk
Method 2:
Mount the iDisk when needed via the "Go" menu in Finder. This is the ONLINE VERSION of your iDisk, not a local copy. When you publish your site via iWeb, the changes INSTANTLY appear on the iDisk on your desktop. If you make html edits or other changes, they appear INSTANTLY online.
I recommend Method 2 - much easier!!!
3. Make the html changes.
You can open the html files generated by iWeb in any text or html editor. In TextEdit, to view the code in an HTML file, choose File > Open and select "Ignore rich text commands." Then locate the .html file (as described in step 2) and click Open.
On each page you want to include the counter, find
</body>
Replace it with
<statcounter code blah blah blah></body>
4. Remember, if you make a change to a page like this post-publishing, and later re-publish, you have to make the html changes again! Set up a Find/Replace command in MassReplaceIt and you can do this very quickly. You can save your queries so you can make all of your changes with one click the next time you save.

PS - if you have blog or podcast entries, making a post-publish edit will make your commenting stop working. Check this out for an alternative method:

  • Can I Set Up a 2nd iWeb Site?

    Hi,
I was wondering if you are able to set up a 2nd iWeb Site. My Daughter has a site but I'd like to set one up too for myself. Any help would be great!
    Thanks in Advance,
    XMTitan

    Hi,
if you and your daughter have different accounts on the computer there is no problem in having two sites. Your site will show up on iWeb in your user account and her site will show up on iWeb in her user account. If you want to make a site which is independent from your daughter's site and don't have different user accounts on your computer you just have to have two different Domain files (where iWeb stores its files User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2 ).
If you don't want to have a completely independent site and don't have different user accounts on your computer open iWeb go to File=>New Site
Site=>Index where people choose which site they want to visit your daughter's or yours
    Site1=>Your daughter's
    Site2=>Yours
you then can publish to the same .Mac account or host.
The only problem that could happen is with publishing two independent sites to the same .Mac account. One site will overwrite (thus delete) the other. That problem is not happening with using two different .Mac accounts or by publishing to two different hosts.

  • Personal Domain - Can I get rid of my iWeb site's name in the URL?

    Hey everyone,
I just set up my iWeb site (called "This is Out of Context") to point to a personal domain name (www.thisisoutofcontext.com). Problem is, now my homepage URL reads: http://www.thisisoutofcontext.com/THISIS_OUT_OFCONTEXT/HOME.html
Is there any way to "get rid" of the second "THISIS_OUT_OFCONTEXT" so that my URL simply reads: http://www.thisisoutofcontext.com/HOME.html ? You know...short 'n sweet...like a "normal" website?
Any thoughts or tips would be much appreciated (please go easy on me, I'm a total newbie here...)
    Cheers!

does this work with iweb 08?
my site was running fine until i upgraded to iweb 08 and redsigned my site. i have a godaddy account for my domain name and i have it masked and forwarded but my apple url still appears at the top of the browser bar while in safari and firefox. my site is www.louislemoine.com
if you go there you will see what i mean. maybe what you are talking about will solve this problem. i am at work so i can not check to see if what you talk about will work. i am hoping that you are onto something.

  • How can I change a hyperlink in iweb site?

In my iweb site I have a hyperlink to an external page.  I now want to change that link, and have it link to one of my internal pages.  I changed the link in iweb, republished the files, uploaded them to my host site, but the link still goes to the original external page.  How can I fix this?

Select the text or item that is the hyperlink and bring up the Inspector/Link/Hyperlink pane:
Select One of My Pages from the Link To: menu and select the page you want to link to.

  • Can I have someone optimize my iWeb site and then re-import it?

I hired someone to optimize my iWeb site put the keywords in the Title, Meta and
place the keywords in the ALT-tags for the images.
Is it possible to re-import the edited website back into iWeb 08. I've tried dragging it, but it didn't work, I've tried creating a new site but only have the option of themes. Am I missing something that somebody knows about? I really appreciate some input,
Also, do you know if there is a better way to optimize these sites inside of iWeb or a separate software program I should use?

  • How can I public more than one iWeb site ?

Dear iLife users, I have a website http://www.inmokvc.com created with iWeb a couple of years ago and still online, now I would like to bring online a second website also created with iWeb but can't bring it online: I have a new domain name for my second site but how can I get 2 diferent sites online at the same time ?

    can't bring it online:
    What is happening exactly?
I have a new domain name for my second site but how can I get 2 diferent sites online at the same time ?
You just publish your second site to MobileMe and use url forwarding to point your second domain name to your second site. It is exactly the same thing you did with your first site, the only change is that the url you forward to is different, i.e http://web.mac.com/konstantijnvc/secondsitename

  • Can i publish on another's iweb site?

my wife has a web site and will be out of the country for a few weeks and i need to up date it for her
can i edit her site from my computer?

Do you both work off the same computer or from your own computers?  If it's off the same computer then just log into her account and run iWeb from there.
If it's from separate computers you and either user her computer or copy the Domain.sites2 file that is in her your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to your computer.
Next, create a new user account on your computer and put her domain.sites2 file in the Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder for that account.  Then go to the System/MobileMe preference pane for that account and log into her MobileMe account.  Now you an log into that second account on your Mac, launch iWeb and update her site.
To make switching accounts more convenient go to the System/Accounts preference pane and setup Fast User Switching.
Remember when you wife returns you will need to copy the domain.sites2 file you've been using for her back to her computer and replace the old one in her  Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.

  • How can I publish to my non-iWeb site

I want to use iPhoto but not iWeb.
It doesn't give me an option to publish any other way.
    Can someone help?

You need to use File->Publish to Folder... which will create your site in a folder on your Mac. Then you need to upload the contents of that folder to your website using an FTP client.

  • Has anyone tried editing an iWeb site with Contribute or Dreamweaver?

Before iWeb, I liked using Adobe Macromedia Contribute to edit the.Mac homepages. I've been giving iWeb a spin, and it seems to occupy the same place in Apple's stable as the rest of its siblings — a pre-pubescent version of Contribute, which is a subset of Dreamweaver.
I haven't yet tried it, but it seems as if the iWeb templates would be a good starting point, and Contribute/Dreamweaver would be great tools to polish the site.
I'm still confused, though, as to what the .Mac WebDAV URLs are...that's the thing that always tripped me up. Dreamweaver 8 is a better at site management, it seems, but if anyone could post a "definitive" guide on using a third-party tool, it would be much appreciated.

yes you can use other websoftware to modify iweb sites either after it is on the webserver or if you save it to a folder before publishing.
I tried the demo of Dream weaver and it worked fine..also I used Rapidweaver which works too. Heck you could use anything that can edit HTML which is really just a text file.
The problem with iweb is it is using those stupid PNG files which are big and to make it worse it duplicates all your images rather than having them in a shared folder you can end up with dozens of the same image which when someone visits your site and changes pages it has to download the same image again!
    pretty crazy stuff.
iweb looks nice and as long as people are viewing it with broadband you'd be ok but dialup users are "toast" even on a simple site.
I got the demo of rapidweaver which is not as intuiative but in someways is more complete and have done a 3 page site.. others are developing themes for it and also there are plugins which add alot of functionality.
at $35 USD it is cheap and if you go to http://www.screencastsonline.com there are 3 videos to show you how to use it and a discount code.
I personally thing iweb is great but has some design flaws that will need to be delt with.

  • Import sites to a Mac that already has created its own iWeb sites

Working different places I have been using iWeb on 3 different Macs. On these Macs I have created different iWeb sites, and now I would like to merge them all onto one computer, so that I can work with all of my iWeb sites from the same location. I have tried to find a way to import the sites from the other computers which I have backed up onto an external harddisk, but there doesn't seem to be any. I can easily enough move the content produced on one computer to another but that just deletes the iWeb content on the computer I am moving it to which is no good as I want to keep it.
And now we are at it: Is there a way to publish just one of the sites created in iWeb, so that you don't have to publish all seven of them every time you alter or update one of the sites?

As Wyodor mentioned iWebSites may be what you want. If your 3 sites are separate files then iWS is just the ticket IMO. Rename the three domain.sites2 files with the actual site name: site2,sites2, site2.sites2 and site3.sites2. Put them all in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb file and launch iWebSites. From there is pretty self explanatory.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • Restoring old iweb site from idisk

THrough sheer ignorance, I created a "new Site" in iweb, not realizing it would replace my exiting website, which is far more important. I want to restore my old site. I am able to access the old site through idisk, but have no idea how to relink it so that it reappears as my website. (Someone suggested opening the index.html in plain text editor and correcting the URL, but I have no idea how to do that. Tried opening it in "text Edit" and no URL is there)
Appreciate any help!!!! This is killing me!

TextEdit is what is says - it is an html editor so that you use it to edit html code, so not url will show up as it does in Safari etc. Safari is a browser and TextEdit does what it says on the tin - edits html code.
The easiest way is to go back into iWeb and open your domain file with the site on it and re-publish all of that site and it will be back at the top again. That is assuming that you have the relevant domain fiel and have not deleted it?
If you publish another site in iWeb, assuming that they have different names, they will not cancel each other out, but what will happen is that the second published site will be at the top, so all you need do is re-publish your original site from iWeb and it will be back at the top again.
You can always get to all your iWeb sites via the url http://web.me.com/username/sitename so Site1, Site2 etc.

  • Posting downloadable content on iWeb site?

I'd like to be able to post files on an iWeb created site which clients can download to inspect/approve or use. I'd also like for them to be able to upload files to me through this site. The files would be photoshop files, full-rez video, small wmv & quicktime files, text files, etc.
Are there any options for this sort of function which can be seamlessly incorporated into an iWeb site? I've been using a public .mac "Homepage" to get files to clients in the past, but it's an ugly looking page that way, and would not look like the rest of the site I want to build. Any ideas on how to do this?
A link to a mock-up of the site home page layout is below, FWIW. The pics will eventually be replaced by stills from/links to pages with video examples. I know the fonts look awful on the pages that are linked to. That's been fixed but not uploaded. This is only a rough cut...
    http://web.mac.com/coreytree/iWeb/Corey%20Petree/Home%202.html
You may notice a "client login" link at the bottom, but I may be dreaming to have such a thing from iWeb.
    Thanks in advance,
    Corey

You can set up a blog page and enable the commenting system. People can then post attachments/files to the comments. This is one way to do it.
Another way you can achieve this without involving your website is to enable read/write access to your iDisk/Public/ folder. You can do this in the System Preferences/.Mac pane. Then you would be able to access the public folder...both downloading and uploading using the following URL format...
    http://idisk.mac.com/username-Public
username = your own .Mac username
And make sure that you capitalize the "P" in Public
Try it out. I think this might work out the best for you.

  • How to import old iWeb sites

I recently did a clean install of Lion and setup a new User for myself, rather than migrate my old user data. I copied my Sites folder from my Snow Leopard User folder into my User folder in Lion, but when I open iWeb, I can't see any of my iWeb sites. How can I import the sites that I've already built in SL into iWeb running under Lion?

The website data is stored in a Domain.sites2 file whose default location is Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb. This is the file you need to transfer.
In Lion the Library is hidden and there is a slight problem with opening Domain files. See this page under "iWeb and Lion" for info...
