Can't connect to local web server
I'm not quite sure when this happened; I think it was upgrading to iPhoneOS 3.x but I can't swear to that (currently running 3.1). Anyway, the problem is that, whether from my app or even simply using Safari, I can't connect to a local webserver. If I'm on one computer in my office (working over WiFi just like my iPhone), and type "http://192.168.1.110/file", where 110 is a different computer, Safari will display the page just fine. But if I'm using my iPhone in the office, on the same network, and type the same URL, it will not connect. For SURE this used to work, and I haven't changed any settings on my network or on my iPhone for that matter.
No problem with connecting to external websites, clearly.
Web services are not relevant to DNS host names. You'll need to configure a default domain name for whatever is being used as the local domain, whether that is established via System Preferences or via DHCP settings. If your Windows box is running a DNS server, you'll need to set the Mac DNS resolver address at the Windows DNS server.

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock'
I'm using the pre-installed versions of php and mysql under Mac OS X Server 10.4.4 running on a G4 and am unable to get anything involving mysql to work.

I'm trying to get a bug database running (mantis) under Mac OS X Server 10.4.4 that I can access from local clients.
I'm trying to follow directions at http://www.mantisbugtracker.com/manual/manual.installation.php
without knowing anything about mysql or php and I'm stuck on step 3:
"Next we will create the necessary database tables and a basic configuration
file."
I get a message saying
"Does administrative user have access to the database? ( Lost connection to MySQL server during query )"
I don't even know if following the mantis directions has resulted in the creation of a database or not. Where would it be?
Thanks for any help.
Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.10)I've just done a clean install of OSX Server and added the latest MYSQL packaged installer. Afterwards I found the lock file in /private/tmp/mysql.lock
The easiest way to solve this problem is to create a symbolic link so that the lock file appears to be in right place.
e.g.
cd /var
sudo mkdir mysql <== this assumes the directory is missing
cd mysql
sudo ln -s /private/tmp/mysql.sock mysql.sock
After this msql commands should work fine, and you've not fiddled with the security settings on users/groups.

"Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'"
Data Services=3.1
Repository=12.2.2.0000
Red Hat Enterprise 5
Designer,Job Server,Job Engine=12.2.2.3
After an unscheduled server reboot with DS up and running when trying to start a job in either Data Services Management Console or DS Designer getting the following:
"Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'"
The mysql.sock have never been in /tmp and on the production server it does not exist there and the production server is up and running correctly. If a link is created to mysql.sock(/home/user/boedge31/bobje/mysql) the job will start but return this message:
"Cannot retrieve <Version> from the repository. Additional database information: <SQL submitted to ODBC data source <localrepo> resulted in error <MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver mysqld-5.0.46-enterprise No database selected>. The SQL submitted is <select VERSION, SECURITYKEY, GUID from AL_VERSION where NAME = 'Repository Version'"
I checked and AL_VERSION and the Version field exist.
Before the shut down DS was working correctly and had no issues. My best guess is a part of the repository was corrupted during the unscheduled shut down. It seems like DS has "forgotten" some of the settings.
Any suggestions on a possible solution? The issue has been solved.
There was a bad path in $LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Removed the path and DS started working again. -
Hi guys,
We have just 'beaten' our Lync installation until it decided to work with mobility, however the clients (IOS) complain that it "Can't connect to Exchange Web Server". Entirely possible its our own fault!
My question is:
What exactly do I need to configure to make this work?
DNS records,
Firewall rules,
etc.
We are running:
Exchange 2010 on-premise
TMG 2010
Cheers
Dave
DaveHi Dave,
The Lync 2010 mobile client for iPhone and iPad has a Meeting tab that lists meetings for the day from the Exchange calendar.
The client uses simple Exchange Autodiscover processes to determine the location of the Exchange server of the user who is signed in. The SIP Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) of the user is used in the attempt to discover the Exchange Web Services (EWS) endpoint.
However, if the user’s SIP URI and email address are different, the Autodiscover process will fail, the Meeting tab will be blank, and Exchange Unified Messaging (UM) voicemail in the Phone tab will not sync.
For disjointed email and SIP URIs, the Lync 2010 mobile client for iPhone and iPad lets the user specify a different set of credentials for Exchange integration. For the Exchange Autodiscover process to work correctly, the necessary DNS records must be available.
To confirm that Autodiscover is working, use Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analzyer at http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com (http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/)
In addition, please also refer to this document
Lync 2010 Integration. Hope helps.

iMac Mac OS X (10.4.6)Your biggest 'issue' right now is that your mysqld process is stopping on you -- making a connection impossible.
Why it's bombing might be in a log .. try in mysql/data/usr.local.err .. and fix why itsbombing.
To connect to it it'll be : mysql -u root -ppassword -D database -

Safari can't connect to the web proxy server (HTTP)
Hello,
I have following problem. I need to connect to the internet using a proxy server. I went to System Preferences/Network/Wi-Fi/Advanced.../Proxies. Then, I selected Web Proxy (HTTP) and enetered server's IP address and port. It looks like I did everything correctly, but Safary can't open any page because "Safari can't connect to the web proxy server (HTTP)". Does anyone know how to solve this problem? There are three possibilities:
1. You entered the wrong address and port number for the proxy.
2. You entered the wrong user name and password, if applicable.
3. The proxy doesn't work or is incompatible. -

Apache2 local web server + Perl 5 + mysql problem
this problem has been bugging me for some months; it's stopping me developing on my new MBP.
I cannot connect to mysql 5.0.45 database when web sharing w/ Apache2 with either Perl 5.8 & Activeperl 5.10 cgi scripts on Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2 & 10.5.3
Although I can connect to the mysql DB when running the Perl scripts from the command line.
The problem only occurs on my local web server in Mac OS X 10.5.2 & 10.5.3.
On my old development Mac running 10.3 the code runs fine, as it also does on my remote site.
server error log: Can't locate DBD/mysql.pm . . .
I suspect there is a problem somewhere between Apache2, Perl & MySQL.
Please advise.
Sarpedon Jones
Message was edited by: Sarpedon JonesI've got the same problem but It sounds like I've gotten farther. I was forced to do an emergency move of some Perl and PHP sites to 10.5.4 when our 10.4 web server refused to authenticate to AD anymore...
Leopard's Apache/Perl support is terrible. There is not click to add option anymore so you have to manually set up mod_perl. No big deal but the first sign that there isn't reasonable support.
The bigger issue is that Apple's Perl will not compile some modules.. namely DBD::mysql.
Normally you'd use "cpan" to install the modules you need. The core module for connecting to a mysql database is DBD.. specifically DBD::mysql
You should be able to run "cpan" or "cpanp" [cpan plus] to get a cpan interactive prompt. At this point you should be able to compile DBD by issuing either of the following:
"install DBD::mysql" or
"install Module DBD::mysql"
I've tried this on two installs of OS X Server and that module (and others) will not compile on either system. One of my servers had been set up as a Wiki server before but the other had not been running any web services before I started using it as a test bed for my site move. (BTW these sites are unavailable until I can move them).
There is another bug (noted on mysql's site) with Apple's version of cpan. If you try to add some modules, cpan will report that it needs to install a new, full version of Perl. The recommendation is to not do this, but rather force the install.. "install f DBD::mysql"
Forcing the install is a questionable idea but it doesn't work anyway.
I eventually did install perl 5.0.10 on the system in /usr/ and that does allow me to compile the needed Perl mods. However, the global @INC path has the old Perl paths listed so my perl CGIs will not use the new perl install.
I'm sorry I don't have a solution. Hopefully my troubleshooting will elicit some more feedback.

I have
A local web server and would
Like to connect to it via my iPad. It does not work correctly using ip address. Would likee to set a path name on the iPad so I can connect via a name.
Like http://me.home.comWhen I go to 192.168.254.2/Wordpress it works, but if I go to any posts or pages it says safari can not connect to ragwing.home.org. That is the server name. If I try to go to ragwing.home.org it says the same. If I use my laptop running windows it works, because I have put the name ragwing.home.org in the path statement. If I use my linux laptop it works also.

Connection from the web server to the database which is situated in another machine.
Thanks for the reply.
I need to know, whether there shold be a physical connection between the web server and database machine? or can we connect to the database machine through the web, if the database machine has a domain name? if there is a physical connection, we can use the jdbc/odbc connection. but if we are connecting through the web, how can I estblish the connection using a JDBC/ ODBC connection?
Regards,
GeorgeAs long as there's a network connection between the two machines, you should be able to make the connection. I'm not sure what the difference between a 'direct connection' and a 'connection through the web' is-- are you actually running a network cable from one machine to another?
When you cannot make the connection, are you able to do a 'tnsping' on the target database?
When you say 'connecting through the web', is it possible that you're going through a firewall? If so, the firewall may be blocking the ports you need to communicate on.

also, I don't like the idea of hardcoding a username/password within the script file in order to do so.

I'm using SSH.NET, you can find info on it here : http://www.powershelladmin.com/wiki/SSH_from_PowerShell_using_the_SSH.NET_library
