Can't control mouse on target computer

Hi all:
I have ARD 3.0 and can connect to my laptop from my desktop via Apple Airport Extreme. The desktop of the target computer comes on screen. When I click the arrow to take control of the computer, the mouse moves and then jumps back to the position the mouse is in on the target computer. Also if I click on anything, it has no action, just jumps back to the mouse position. Any ideas why or how to fix it?
Thanks,
Phil

I have exactly the same problem.
I can not control the mouse on my remote Mini from my G5. Controlling the mouse on my remote iMac G5 works fine.
Suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can control the Apple TV with the supplied remote, the remote app from the app store on an iOS device and compatible programmable remotes, you can't control it from your computer (except for streaming content to it from iTunes)

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in safe mode.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    for k in /Sy*/L*/Ex*/{,.?}*.kext; do test -f "$k/Contents/Info.plist" && /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Print :CFBundleIdentifier" "$_" | egrep -qv "apple|Accusys|ArcMSR|ATTO|CalDigit|HighPoint|hp-fax|JMicron|print|SoftRAID|stex" && echo $k; done | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    Repeat with this line:
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 4
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, Steps 1-4 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

    I searched the forum and find a wiki page about x11 hotplug and i disabled it, not worked, added this;
    Section "Module"
    SubSection "extmod"
Option "omit xfree86-dga" # don't initialise the DGA extension
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    not worked too.

  • How can I control the zoom on my mac mouse?

How can I control the zoom function on my mouse? In the middle of working on things my hand will rub the mouse by accident and all of a sudden the context within the screen is large. I have no idea of how to work this feature on my mouse and most times to get it to return to normal, I have to escape out of the work I am performing.

If you are pressing the "Control" button on the Mac keyboard, scrolling up will zoom in and scrolling down will zoom out. You can disable this if it annoys you through System Preferences > Universal Access. If you are using Mountain Lion, it would be System Preferences > Accessibility.
Uncheck the in the "Seeing" or "Zoom" section that says "Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom".  It may be slightly different if you have an older OS X version. I have Mountain Lion and am going off of memory on the older versions.

I think this is probably a sign that your network could be better than it is.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

Thank you.  There is a bigger issue.  It is not the web page that is the problem.  It is that I can see my mouse moving and can move it along the bottom toolbar and the options will highlight but I can't click on anything.  I can see the apple icon to get to force quit but cant click on it.
I used your suggestion and force quit came up but I can't select the option to force quit... not even with my arrows and enter/return key.  Any other thoughts?
    Thank you.

    there is not.
perhaps it would help to turn off the Snap To Grid menuItem?

  • Can't share screen to another computer but can control another - WHY??

I have a client I want to be able to control her computer when she needs me to through iChat screen sharing when necessary.
    she is on a MacPro Quad-Core 10.5.7
she can control my screen but I cannot control hers!!! she accepts the screen sharing request, and on my end it just sits there forever but screen control never happens for me!
I tested a new user on her machine, and the same exact behavior occurred.
I tried plugging her into wired ethernet instead of her airport wireless connection...that still didn't work
she has a macbook pro on her home network running 10.5.7 which I can screen-control through ichat screen sharing with no problems whatsoever
but I cannot for the life of me figure out why no matter what I cannot control her macpro's screen through ichat
are there any preferences/files I should trash?
i am a good troubleshooter and this has left me completely stumped
thank you for any light you can shed on the problem!

    Ok,
    Verizon.
Try getting her to set iChat menu > Preferences > Video/Audio section > Bandwidth Limit drop down to 500kbps.
What we have here is a Connection that is super fast.
as a consequence her iChat maybe be thinking you have not responded and end the chat just as it connects.
    She probably has this device
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Actiontec/MI-424-WRv2/iCh at.htm
Ignore the settings for Port Forwarding as such. Use the page for the Access info only.
That firewall shown I think has High, Medium, Low and Off
Try it at Off as there are features within the other setting that could get in the way.
Also check the Advanced Filtering and Access Control.
Access Control should be about who can log on to the Modem to make changes.
The other should be about the sort of Web site she can visit but it may list other features as well.
A test Mac User account with the same iChat Details should be a fair test.

I have a teenager that has learned how to delete his history, is there a way to lock the history to where I can monitor the sites he visits without setting up parental control program on the computer?

Use security software or a router with a build-in password protected logging feature if you want to keep a record of visited websites.<br />
You can't prevent people from deleting the history and other personal (private) data in Firefox and a log elsewhere will always work even if other browser would be used.

  • Image control mouse move event updates

I would like to drag the ROI around in the Image control (holding down the left mouse button) and continually read out the ROI coordinates. I can't find a way to do this: the mouse move event does not seem to fire if I hold the left mouse button down. I assumed that I would have
    1. Mouse down when I click and hold.
    2. Mouse move when I move the ROI around.
    3. Mouse up when I release the left mouse button.
This does not seem to be the case.
I've done a simple workaround which is
    1. Use the key up event to check that the space bar has been pressed.
    2. Use this to toggle a "lock" boolean which locks the target to the mouse coordinates.
    3. Use the mouse move event to return the Image Control Mouse Coordinates property.
    4. Unlcok the target from the mouse coordinates by pressing the space bar again.
This kind of works, but it is much less intuitive than the standard windows "click and drag".
    Any comments appreciated.
    Thanks.
PS The Image Control is excellent, it has saved me lots of development time. Also, the ROI tools are hugely useful.

If you filter the mouse down event (MOUSE DOWN?) then the coordinated are always returned on mouse move event weather the mouse is down or not.  I did get the coordinates when the left button was down anyway it was just when the right button was down which the move event was not handled (due to the popup menu consuming the event first?)  I thing there is a good way to do this with dynamic event registration, and NI has a similar example of drag and drop of controls, but I am not at my LV machine to look for it right now.  If I am wrong I am sorry it is early and my coffee is not brewed yet.

  • Error 21 on target computer

I am trying to run a labview executable on a target machine that only has the runtime version of labview installed. After installing all of the drivers that I could think of the program is still missing vis. However, after searching the source computer, I couldn't find the vis on that machine either.
The vis that it is missing include for example: DIO Port Config.vi, DIO Port Write.vi, AO Group Config.vi, AO *.vi, AI Control.vi, Counter Group Config. vi.
When the program stops complaining about missing all of these vis it tries to open with GUI but it only has the skeleton (none of the buttons, etc that are normally part of the GUI).
Again, I can't find any of these vis on the computer that has a full version of labview (and where the program works). So I don't know how to find them or what package they are apart of.
Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.
I am not the developer of this program. I just have the executable which has worked on the two systems which have the same version of labview installed. I have Labview runtime 7.1 installed on the target computer.

    Hello megresearch,
All of the VI's you mentioned are part of the Traditional NI-DAQ driver.  The most recent version of this driver is 7.4.1, but you can download any version you might need from the following page on our website:
    Drivers and Updates:  Multifunction DAQ
Try installing this driver on your deployment PC and see if your executable works then.  Let us know if you are still having any trouble.
    Best regards,

Ethan, please run through this provisioning scenario with tracing enabled and send me the resulting .etl log file:
    Close VS 2013
Start WDK tracing by running the following commands from an elevated command prompt:
IF NOT exist %temp%\WDK md %temp%\WDK
::Create text file containing WDK providers (all flags, all levels)
    set TempWdkEtwProv=%Temp%\WDK\WdkEtwProviders.txt
    echo {cc266499-ae72-483f-92eb-68fe819ad751} 0xff 0xff > %TempWdkEtwProv%
    echo {dabf2b2d-0b18-4391-a6e6-c6030445b5de} 0xff 0xff >> %TempWdkEtwProv%
    echo {be23ac82-fb9b-4dab-b532-bd02a1164ff2} 0xff 0xff >> %TempWdkEtwProv%
    echo {061c5f03-df1c-45de-ac2a-c9c0f4dbbcc3} 0xff 0xff >> %TempWdkEtwProv%
::Create and start new trace session with the above WDK providers
logman create trace WdkConfigCompSession -o "%temp%\WDK\ConfigureComputerTrace.etl" -pf "%TempWdkEtwProv%"
    logman start WdkConfigCompSession
Start VS 2013 and try to provision your target computer as before.  This will take a little longer with detailed tracing enabled.  Please let me know if it's unbearably slow and we can ratchet down the logging level and redo.
Once it gets to the point where it appears to hang, wait for a minute or two and then cancel out of the dialog
    Close VS 2013
Stop WDK tracing by running the following commands from an elevated command prompt:
    logman stop WdkConfigCompSession
    logman delete WdkConfigCompSession
    start %temp%\WDK
This should pop up File Explorer at the %temp%\WDK folder.  Copy the ConfigureComputerTrace_######.etl file from there and upload it to my OneDrive Pro (send me your MS account info to
[email protected] and I'll send you a folder you can upload this to)
    Thanks,
    Steve
