Can't paste HTML in design view on Mac

Hi,
This works fine on my PC and has for years but on Mac OS 10x I seem to be losing all the formatting when I copy an existing HTML page into DW. I have set the preferences to retain max formatting but no dice. When I try to paste into an editable region of a template, nothing happens at all. I have CS4 on the Mac and MACromedia DW 8 on the PC which works fine. Is this a Mac or CS4/new glitch?

Are you working with overlapping Layers (aka APDivs)?
Do you have overflow: hidden in your CSS code?

How come I can see my div in design view but not in live view

Hi,
I have a div ID called "portfolio" that I can see in design view but not live view or on a browser. It's a little pink square and I want that square round also.
I ran it through validator. It picked up some things in the style.css which I changed and the boilerplate.css that I did not. Because I thought DW auto creates code for boilerplate because I don't enter that code myself.
It's also rejecting a lot of webkit code but this seems like standard webkit code that works elsewhere on the page.
BTW: at what point does this brutal hand coding pay off in money and less heartache when Wordpress looks cleaner and is so much easier to use? I feel like I barely know HTML or CSS in terms of translating vision to reality and with all-browser functionality after months and months of on-line classes. How long are the pros at it till they reach a watershed point?

The top:-300 is putting that div above the top of the browser viewport. Fix that and you'll see the div.

HTML editor - design view doesn't accept specific chars on Polish keyboard

I'am trying to edit simple HTML page based on the JDeveloper wizard and I cannot input specific windows-1250 code page characters in the design view of the HTML editor altough I can do it in the source pane.

Code errors are responsible for 98% of rendering problems. Your pages lack a valid doc type declaration which puts them into quirks mode.
On line #1 in code view, change this:
     <html>
to this:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

At least that will give you a fighting chance of validating without errors. Use the online code validator below to check for other errors in all your site pages.

Incidentally, asking a non-coder to use Dreamweaver is form of punishment.   Basic coding skills are necessary to get the most out of this product.   Anything less is going to result in frustration and confusion.
It's worth noting that DW is NOT a WYSIWYG editor. Design View is at best, an approximation of what you can expect to see in some browsers. For best results, use Live View in Split View and edit the code.

Display Html screen, design view and CSS screen at the same time ?

Hello everyone !
Well this is my problem :
I am on a Dual Screen monitor, in one screen i have the ''code inspector'' to view my html code and the second screen i have the Design view.
Problem is, i hate switching always my tabs when I need to work on my Html and my CSS.
I was wondering if anyone found a way to display, i don't know maybe 2 code inspector or simply find a way to split the screen so I can see html and css at the same time ?

If you're using Dreamweaver CS4, this is very easy. View the HTML in the Code Inspector, and have Vertical Split view in the main Document window. In the Related Files toolbar, select the stylesheet.

Suddenly can't open topics in design view

Hello -
Last Friday, I had 2 RH projects open when the electricity went out in our building. When I opened these projects on Monday, I suddenly couldn't open most of the topics in design view. A few I can. What happens is that I get the hourglass and then RH stops responding. I waited 10 minutes and no progress. I can still right-click a topic and view/preview it, but I cannot open it in the design window.
So maybe something got hosed in the project, right? Well ... I opened a project that was not open at the time of the power surge and it's experiencing the same issue.
So maybe something in RH itself got hosted, right? Well ... I un-installed and re-installed RH and I still have the issue.
Any ideas? I'm completely at a loss.

Hi there
Admittedly a long shot here. Have you tried reloading the default environment? Additionally, I'd also click Tools > Options and ensure that the WYSIWYG editor is the default. And if it is, try configuring another editor as the default. Then dismiss the dialogs and reset the default back to the WYSIWYG editor.

Can't drag components to Design View? (FB)

A co-worker of mine is unable to drag any component on to the
design view. I looked at it and I can't seem to figure it out
either. His project works fine under my version of Flex Builder
(we're both using Flex Builder 3.0.2, OSX 10.5), I am able to drag
and drop new components to any state. The only way he is able to
add components is by going to the MXML and typing things manually.
He is also having odd things happen in design view with alignment
and constraints.
Edit: Just to clarify when he tries to drag and drop instead
of getting the "Green Plus Orb" he gets a White "Cancel" (always
reminds me of a non-smoking sign) circle.
I have managed to find a few people with the same problems on
JIRA but every one of the bugs gives me the "This bug was imported
from another system and requires review from a project committer
before some of the details can be marked public." message.
Any ideas/help would be appreciated - he is reinstalling FB
now, but I dunno if that's going to help.

pkrasko, welcome to the forum,
drag and drop; go to screen settings where you see the two monitors displayed with 1 on the left and 2 on the right. Click on 2 and drag it to the left of 1. You'll then be able to drag to the left, unless of course you've already physically moved the monitor to the right

Why can't I preview in design view

Hi,
I can only see (CODE | SPLIT | LIVE), I do not have the Design View, any idea where this setting is so I can re-enable it

If you have CC 2014.1 and are using a Fluid Grid Layout, it is working as expected.
Adobe prematurely removed Design View from FGL pages in that version.
Vote to have it returned here: Provide "Design View" for Fluid Grid Webpages
Or, you can use the workaround available here (post 6 by Nancy O): Editing Text and Adding Links Is Crazy in DW CC-2014.1
Or, if you're not using FGL pages, click the Live button (it's a dropdown menu now) and choose Design.

Adobe CC 2014 can't paste HTML into lightbox container

In the latest update of Muse CC 2014, I am suddenly unable to paste any HTML into a lightbox container. Every time I paste it, it simply adds the HTML as a separate layer on the page. Anyone else having this issue? I've used lightboxes in the past for videos & other HTML objects and have never had an issue. Thanks!

I believe you are using LightBox Widget listed under Slideshows However you Should be using "LightBox Display" listed under "Compositions" for the same purpose.
Here also another location to find it in Muse:
Object > Insert Widget > Compositions> LightBox Display

Inserted the code but can't see the site in design view

Hello, I just downloaded the trial version of DW ver.8 and
opened an existing site I have and can't see anything in the design
view, but everything is there in the code view... and the site
shows just fine in the browser preview! This problem happens with
all the html pages I open up. Someone please tell me what I am
doing wrong. I am using mac osx ver.10.4.5.

I copied and pasted the code into DW and I didn't have a
problem viewing it,
A couple of things:
You need to close a a tag here: the > was missing at the
end:

Copy-paste hotkeys in F2B3 Design View

Problem:
At this moment only [Ctrl+Insert] and [Shift+Insert] hotkeys
(shortcuts) can be used for copying and pasting components in
Design View of Flex 2 Beta 3. But in Code View [Ctrl+C] and
[Ctrl+V] hotkeys can be used for copy-paste operations too.
Suggestion:
It would be more convenient to use [Ctrl+C] and [Ctrl+V]
hotkeys for copy-pasting Design View of Flex 2 Beta 3 too because:
They're used in Code View already;
They more familiar for many users.
Solution:
Add [Ctrl+V] and [Ctrl+C] to default hotkeys for copy-pasting
in Design View of Flex 2 Beta 3.

Can you say what that's doing? "float" is not a legal value for the leftmargin style, which requires an integer value. But its use is deprecated in favor of CSS anyhow.
Your pasted code is lacking a doctype or anything that would normally be above that stylesheet link. Is that just an oversight or is it really not there?

Design view (CS3) is completely highlighted - can't edit content

On one of the websites I have developed, when I go to Design view and click on the content I want to revise, all content and photos are highlighted, so I can't just edit one word or sentence. I have to go to Code view and search for that content in order to change it, meaning I don't have the ease of adding links in the Design view, etc. One of the web pages with this problem is: http://www.greenkarat.com/TEST_NEW/about/education.asp, which validates. The CSS is http://www.greenkarat.com/TEST_NEW/css/greenkarat.css, which also validates. Below is a screen print of the design view that doesn't allow me to edit. How can I clear this up? Thank you. P.S. If I "temporarily" remove one of the closing div tags - </div>, I can then edit in the Design view, but I need to add the div tag back in before I upload the file to the server. If the div tag is not added back in, the page does not validate

Dreamweaver CS3 Paste HTML Problem

Hi, I'm a fairly basic user of Dreamweaver CS3. I used to be
able to paste HTML into webpages with no problem. I have recently
upgraded to CS3 and that menu command (Paste HTML) seems to have
gone. Can anybody help?

If you want to paste the actual HTML code into a page, just

Copy, cut, and paste in Dreamweaver are context-specific. If

section of a page in Design view, and paste it in Design

Can't Paste in Dreamweaver C3 from Office 2008

I am running OS X 10.5.1 on a Macbook with Dreamweaver CS3
and I just bought and installed MS Office 2008. Previously I used
to use Word 2004 to write the text for my website and copy and
paste it in Dreamweaver CS3 and it woudl keep the paragraph breaks.
Unfortunately, when I wrote in Word 2008, copy, and try to paste in
Dreamweaver now it will only paste in "text only" and not keep the
paragraph breaks. All the other options for copying will not allow
me to paste anything from Word 2008. I am guessing Microsoft did
some type of change to their formatting. Will Adobe create an
update for Dreamweaver to deal with this change and allow pasting
from Word 2008? Can anyone think of a work around?

I can confirm that this is happening. Paste from Word only
works if I
select TEXT ONLY. Any other option pastes nothing into Design
view.

Save to HTML from Word, and paste that into code view?

Can't paste a paragraph into Dreamweaver code

Hi there,
Big thank you to whoever can help with this one...
I am trying to paste a paragraph of text I have copied from a website, "Lorem Ipsum" in fact, but when I paste it within paragraph tags - or code view general - Dw returns the data as one long line with no paragraph formatting!!
Bit of nightmare. I have tried pasting special - to include paragraph structure - but no luck fixing the issue.
Would really appreciate your help.

Does your Lorem ipsum contain paragraph tags? If not, it's just plain text.
Paste this into Code View:

Covert symbols to HTML in "Code view"

Hello, is where any way to find and convert symbols to HTML in Adobe Dreamweaver CC while in "Code view" ?
Example: search in open document for & and covert to &
I know if you paste text in "Design view" it auto converts to special HTML entry, but how to do it in "Code view"?
