Can't paste into sub-folders

I am experiencing a strange problem.
I have two computers, both with OS X 10.6.4 where the Finder behave's differently. The computer that works as expected is a non-unibody Macbook Pro (early 2008) that has been upgraded to Snow Leopard.
The computer with problems is a new Mac Mini w/ Snow Leopard.
*The problem*
In Finder, in list view, if I click on a file and CTRL + C to copy a file. Then, I expand a folder using the triangle, click on a file that is within the folder. I then hit CTRL + V. I would expect the file to paste into this sub-folder. However, it doesn't. It paste's into the root of folder hat I'm currently viewing. (in this example, 1 level up).
On my Macbook, it pasted into the folder just fine.
Why would Finder behave this way?
Oddly, this same computer has this problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2559913&tstart=45
It seems Finder is buggy on this computer, for some reason, and others experience similar issues.
I tried repairing permissions, but it did not fix anything.
Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know why it works in the other computer, but it shouldn't. The paste command should always go to the focus. A selected folder in list view is not the focus. The folder who's name appears at the top of the window is the focus.
In column view, the focus is the selected folder, so pasting there will paste into the selected folder.

  • How can I get the sub folders in room structure?

    Hi guys,
I have a quesion: in KM-Collaboration-roomstructure, if I have a folder A, how can I get its sub folders like A.1,A.1.1,A2.
I mean of course  how code can realize: using context folder=(IPcdContext) ictx.loopup(path) ?
    Please give me some hint!
    Thanks so much!

The phone number format as well as the date language and format and the time format are controlled by the Region Format setting. Go to Settings > General >International > Region Format.  When you change a region format, you can go back one page (to International) and see an example of the date/time/phone number format that your selected region format will produce.

Use the Subfolder pulldown to set the subfolders:

  • I have created sub-folders under one email address but can't find the sub-folders. Can you tell me where they are please.

The sub-folders aren't visible but when I created a second sub-folder with the same name, a box appeared advising me that a sub-folder of the same name had been created so could not be called that. Please let me know where I can find it.

Are you describing "mailboxes" in Apple's Mail app?  That's odd, since this is the forum category for iPods.
The location of a new mailbox is determined by your Location selection when you created the new mailbox.  In the panel that appears when you give command to create a new mailbox, there is a drop-down selection field for Location.  Click that field.  That is probably where you put your previous mailbox, so if the new one with the same name is duplicated at that location, that's the location you need to look.
If this question is about iPod (or iTunes), please post back with more details.

  • Help! Can't paste into code view or property inspector

I'm experiencing a weird and extremely annoying bug in Dreamweaver CS6 -- I can't paste text from outside apps into DW's code view or into the property inspector (such as URLs).
Pasting doesn't work no matter the method: Ctrl + V, right-clicking or using the Edit menu. Pasting works normally in every other program. If I copy within Dreawmweaver, pasting works fine.
Does anyone have a solution for this? I'm running Win 8 and DW 12.1 through Creative Cloud. Searching the forums, I see others have reported the same issue. Some have been able to fix it by deleting the configuration file; that didn't fix the issue for me. I'd like to try reinstalling DW, but the Adobe Application Manager doesn't seem to allow that.
I began noticing this bug about two weeks ago. That might have been about the same time I updated to 12.1. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Cory K.

Adding to my last post, I used a clipboard format inspector called nclip (http://code.google.com/p/nclip/) to see if I could find a pattern between "what works" and "what doesn't".
There are two cases where I'm seeing paste-into-Dreamweaver CS6 fail:
Paste into Code View fails, but Paste into Design View works!
Paste into either Code View or Design View fails
I went through the list of programs that worked and didn't worked, using nclip to show what clipboard formats were being saved from each working and non-working source. It appears that DreamWeaver CS6 as of January 9, 2013 doesn't accept the most basic text clipboard formats:
    CF_UNICODETEXT
    CF_TEXT
    CF-OEMTEXT
    CF_LOCALE
If these are the only clipboard formats used by an app (for example, Window's venerable Notepad.exe), Dreamweaver doesn't appear to handle them. Most programmer-style text editors output just these formats, because they are presumed to be understood any application that handles text. These fail for both pasting into codeview and design view.
Interestingly, Chrome browser fails the code view test, but it does work in design view! It outputs the four clipboard types above, plus one more:
    Custom Format: HTML Format
Hypothesis 1: Any application that puts HTML Format on the clipboard will paste into design view, but not necessarily code view.
Next, Visual Studio 2010 and Sticky Notes, which doesn't include HTML Format as a clip type, works for both code view and design view. They both output this type in addition to the basics:
    Custom Format: Rich Text Format
Two programs that output Rich Text Format without HTML Format are Sticky Notes and WordPad. These both work with Code View and Design View. From these limited tests on my system, it appears that for Dreamweaver to accept a text paste from an outside program into Code View, that program must output Rich Text Format to the clipboard. Otherwise, it fails. Dreamweaver will accept HTML Format, but only in Design View. Firefox is an exception in that it don't export Rich Text Format, but still works with Code View. It might use OLE, though (Chrome doesn't seem to use OLE, and it breaks in code view).
Hypothesis 2: Any application that puts Rich Text Format on the clipboard will paste into design view AND code view.
If Dreamweaver is really ignoring the basic text clipboard formats, and it's not just my system configuration, then this is a bug. Probably something that got overlooked in testing.
To reproduce on Dreamweaver 12.1 build 5966:
Try copy/pasting text from Notepad.exe into Dreamweaver Code View (DWCV). This fails for me.
Try copy/pasting text from WordPad.exe into DWCV. This works!
Try copy/pasting text from Internet Explorer 9 or Firefox into DWCV. This works!
Try copy/pasting text from Chrome. This fails to paste into Code View, but does paste into Design View
    The Code View workaround:
Use Firefox or Internet Explorer for your browser if you're copy/pasting source code.
If you're working from another text editor, try copy/pasting into intermediate programs Sticky Notes or WordPad, then copy/paste from there into Dreamweaver.
So that is my experience on Windows 7 64-bit. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

  • Can't sync email sub-folders with iPhone 4 using iOS 5?

I can sync most everything from my laptop using Outlook except the subfolders in my email.  It will sync email but I have a number of sub-folders to organize my email that will not sync with iPhone.  Any ideas?

So far this seems to have fixed it. For some reason when upgrading to iOS5 it has changed some settings in mail. Now if you send any .mac or .me emails using apple.com no problem. But other services such as optonline.net for example things changed. By checking the smtp settings, there should be a couple, this seemed to fix it, however once I did that all the email in the folder disappeared and said it could not download email without a password, yes the password now disappeared. I put it back in and so far it works sending and receiving on the ipad 2. I am going to try on the ipad1 and iphone 4...............

  • Can't paste into Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 after opening any browser on Windows 7 system...

I couldn't paste anything in Design or Code view after updating to Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 this week on my Windows 7 system. I discovered that if I rebooted my computer and opened Dreamweaver without opening any browsers (have tried Chrome, Firefox, IE, Safari, and Opera), then I could paste in both Design and Code views. After I opened ANY browser, however, I could no longer paste in Dreamweaver and couldn't paste in Dreamweaver again unless I rebooted and didn't open any browsers. At first I thought it was a problem with Chrome (a common culprit) and uninstalled all of my extensions, but Chrome clearly was not the culprit this time. All five of my browsers (with tedious system reboots in-between) triggered the same inability to paste into Dreamweaver. I had not installed the update on my Windows 7 laptop yet, and I found that that still was working just fine, so I uninstalled the 2014.1 update from my desktop system and reinstalled the previous version. That eliminated the problem, but I'd sure like to be able to keep my Adobe software updated without experiencing these deal-breaking issues.

Thanks, Preran. After uninstalling the 2014.1 update and reinstalling the previous version, I now installed the 2014.1 update again. Instead of jumping straight into restoring the preferences, I decided to test it out as-is, and it worked! No problems with pasting after opening any of my five browsers. I wonder what may have gone wrong the first time...or what was corrected during the uninstall/reinstall process. In any case, it is working again now and I am grateful. Thanks!

  • Can you paste into a single column of a multi-columned table?

I have an 11 column table. The first column is dates I want to change periodically. I generate the dates in an Appleworks spreadsheet: write one date, write repeating forumula in next line, and fill down generates any number of dates beginning with the day provided.
I have pasted from Appleworks, then from a blank new Pages page. I have tried return and tab after the date. In every case Pages won't paste into the column I select, but insteads spreads itself left to right going down.
Anyone found a way to do this?
    Daru
Dual 2 GHz PPC G5; MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Apple Computers since 1982

From Bekins in another thread a few posts down (as I write this):
Format > Table > Fill Cells
If you search Pages' help for "fill", there's a topic Autofilling table cells.
I'm not sure that this will solve your problem though. I have also found that pasting from another table or a spreadsheet does what you found - Pages fills left to right & does not "respect" row endings.

  • Can't paste into iTunes lyrics

Up until recently, I have been able to copy lyrics from other sources and then paste them into the lyrics tab of any mp3 file in iTunes. Yesterday, I noticed that that particular functionality is missing. I hit CMD-V in the lyrics tab and nothing happens. Is there a bug in iTunes? Or has iTunes removed this function.I can
Note: I can still add lyrics manually by typing them out. But this is a PITA and frankly doesn't work for me. I am an avid lyric collector. Please help.

Just updated to iTunes 12.0.1 and it's working normally again. It was probably just a bug in the .0 release.
Thank god, if Apple gets any one bit more strict with their anti-piracy paranoia I'll be forced to find a new player. But I don't think they would do this, I've bought albums in the iTunes Store and they come with no lyrics included. Adding them manually from the internet is the only solution.

  • Lost the "Edit" option and now cannot paste. My right mouse has a glitch and I can't paste into an email which is a huge detriment. Need the old "Edit" option.

I'm a writer and rely on being able to link to various online publications I have. I used to be able to highlight the link and go to the top of Firefox, into the "Edit" section, hit "Paste" and it landed where I wanted it. I have a glitch in my ability to right click and paste so relied heavily on having the Firefox option (similar to any Word program). It's now gone and I'm lost. I just responded to an add for a writer, needed to paste in my links, and was horribly frustrated because I couldn't do it without a huge amount of irritation, going back & forth to the site, typing it in manually, etc., etc. Please tell me I can get this back...

    Follow these steps:
#highlight something on a page to copy,
#click Firefox button, click small arrow/triangle to the far right of Edit, the word "Copy" should now be highlighted/darkened
#click to where you want to Paste what you just copied
#click Firefox button, click small arrow/triangle to the far right of Edit, the word "Paste" should now be highlighted/darkened
NOTE: you can always highlight, then use Ctrl+C to Copy, click where you want to paste, use Ctrl+V to paste. Those are standard Windows keyboard shortcuts for Copy and Paste..

  • Can't paste into template - error message

I've got a site that was made years ago (I inherited it). I'm

  • Can't paste into Keynote from Photoshop

I am trying to copy and paste from Photoshop to Keynote. I know this works because I can do it on my computer, but an associate is trying to do it from her computer and the paste command is grayed out. Only difference is that I am using CS4 and she is using CS3. Any ideas?

My guess is that she is not coping anything in Photoshop, which is why the paste option is greyed out. Make sure that she has the appropriate layer selected in photoshop before she copies.

  • Can you put subfolders into you folders in the Zen V Plus..

for instance videos. Can you have diff sub folders named like music...etc under videos? Thanks

    Yes- Easy!
When you have your Creative Media Explorer open and your portable device connected, you will see your Zen V Series Media Explorer in the SOURCE window in the upper LH corner. Click on the "+" in front of the Zen V Series icon and it will display the list of folders on the device.
Right click on the main folder for the category you want to put the sub folder in and you will get a drop down menu.
Select "New folder" and you will get the "New Folder" box asking you what name you want for your new folder. It's that easy.

  • Dreamweaver CS3- can not paste from Word into Design mode window

Have been away from DW for a while, and upon return having a
bit of difficulty with paste function for text. I can select text
in design mode/window; I can type in design mode, but I can not
paste into design mode. I can only paste in code view or the code
half of split view. Is there a setting/preference I have set wrong?
    Thx

  • How can I cut and paste into a calendar's event notes?

How can I paste into a calendar event's note section?  The attachement way is too cumbersome.

You are trying to copy a link, it is most likely in a different color such as the words "Microsoft's own forums" in his post. In Word highlight the word or words, control click on them, select Hyperlink, then Edit Hyperlink, then delete the link from the top box. It will then have a button asking if you want to "Remove Link", click on it.
