Can't play audio cd

Hi,
This is probably a very basic thing, but I'm having problems playing an audio cd. I know that for audio cd's you do not mount them like you would a regular cd-rom, but I just can't get XMMS to play audio cds.
I have the directories in the XMMS Cd module set to /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 and /mnt/cd; I've also tried using /dev/hda with no success. Cdtool reports that theres "no disc" in there, even when there is.
The drive reads cd-roms, dvds all fine.. but I don't know whats going on with audio cds. Any suggestions?

Click on open file.
Go to /mnt/cd. You should get a listing of the tracks.
Click on "Add all files in directory"
Click on "Close"
Click on Play. The tracks should be in the playlist.

I don't know if this makes sense, but I got newer DTS sound driver which I found, It's not my laptop model, but they all seem to be the same - v1.1.88.0
I uninstalled DTS software and still had the same problem, so it's not affecting sound driver in any way..

Why are toshiba releaseing old driver as 'NEW' ?
2nd is my speakers advanced settings, nothing changed when I disabled "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"

I see that the option called “give exclusive mode applications priority” has been checked.
Usually different applications and programs can access the sound card simultaneously.
For example: you can hear the sound in game, while you can run your own music via an external player.
This is prevented with these options “give exclusive mode applications priority”.
Maybe you should disable (uncheck) this option to prevent the different applications for using this exclusive mode stream.
I did it for my DAC. I set the DAC for exclusive mode. Once my audio playback software starts to play music, no other software is able to share the DAC.
However, I use Win 7 and Realtek sound driver… It’s another configuration.
So it’s not known to me if your issue is related Win 8.1 system or maybe limitation of sound driver… it could be also possible that one of your sound applications don’t allow multiple sound streaming.

The iPhone can maintain multiple pairing records, but it can only connect to one headset or hands-free device at a time. However, in your situation there may be a solution. You can connect the iPhone via Bluetooth for calls and use the 3.5mm jack on your iPhone and car radio to connect for music.

Should be able to go into your sound preferences and choose your output device, you can also try downloading Airfoil and try that, it's a pretty cool app.

Ios 8 iphone can not play audio message in imessage

Seems I can send sound clips from my iPhone 5, but when someone sends me one I get a box with a ? in it and can not play it even though it says I have received an audio message. If I am at the lock screen I can hit play but then it appears to freeze.
Any ideas? Below is what I see in my messages.. they should be audio messages.

the subject says all. when i insert an audio cd into my drive i can't play it with totem (totem-xine). the option "play audio cd" is greyed out.

Logic freezes and I can save but can't play audio?

I would like to play audio from movies in the MacBook DVD player using iTunes or Airplay? Is this possible?

Is it important that the music come from a video, or are you just looking to listen to music in the background, while doing something else. If the later, you can certainly play music from the Music App, Pandora, or iHeart Radio, etc., and with the music playing, tap your home button to go to your home page and open anything else you want and the music will continue.
I don't have any videos to try out right now, but you try the same thing out and if the music continues, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

Adobe AIR for iphone app: can't play audio properly

I just developed an App by using adobe air. It contains some animations with background music in mp3 format. The problem is that the music is very jerky when the animation is playing... FYI, this is the way how I play audio in flash:new Sound(new URLRequest("m3.mp3")).play() Have I done anything wrong?
BTW, the funny thing is that if you hit the HOME button, and then come back to the app again, everything plays beautifully...

I just finished an app that uses a lot of audio while stuff is animated on the timeline and the sound responds well on all iOS devices. (havent tested on 3GS yet)

Can't play audio cd in Gnome -- User in audio/optical group

I'm trying to play an audio cd using gnomes cd player. I'm using udev and have already set user to audio and optical group. When I set CD Player Device to /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 I get an Error setting device. The following is displayed:
You do not seem to have permission to access /dev/cdroms/cdrom0.
This means that the CD player will not be able to run.
I checked the symlink for cdrom0 and it points to /dev/hdc which belongs to disk group. Should I add user to this group? Or did I forget to do something else besides adding user to audio and optical group?

please read the information in this posting after the gpasswd -a commands. you need to add your hdX to your permissions file for udev.

(that is an exerpt from /etc/udev/permissions.d/udev.permissions the entries in red are what i had to add to get proper user permissions on my cd/dvdrom and dvd-rw drives.

Can't play audio files from pre-Intel Mac

I have some audio files from my old PowerPc Mac (around 1998) which I'd dearly like to be able to hear again on my 2011 Intel G5 Mac (10.7.4).
The files were created by me on the old Mac using the basic sound recording software that came with all Macs. The files are just people speaking.
I have attached an image of the icon that is associated witho these files now. For some of these files, the properties show the file type as "QuickTime Player.app Document".I tried opening the files using Quicktime Player app, to no avail.
Other files are shown as being a "Unix Executable file" type.
I also have other files from the old Mac with this same icon. With those that I know were text files of some kind, I have just simply added .txt at the end of the filename and hey presto, the file is viewable again. I haven't been so lucky with the others.
I imagine also that its not so simple with these audio files but I wouldn't know what file extension to use as I haven't worked with audio files before.
Also, is there a way to keep these files in some generic format, to avoid this problem happening again in the future, as technology advances?
If you can help with this problem, please reply.

Can I play audio output through both my iMac speakers and Apple TV simultaneously?

I have Bose speakers conected to the headphone jack on my iMac. When I select Airplay Mirroring on the iMac, the Bose speakers become disabled as audio is then streamed to Apple TV which resides in another room? Is there any workaround which will give me audio to both the headphone jack and Apple TV simultaneously? Thanks.

Music from atv2 to airport express appears to work okay, but not audio from movies.

Thanks. Seems odd that apple allow music to be streamed through itunes to airport express but we cannot play the audio from movies through itunes.
