Can't publish first iWeb page

A few seconds into publishing on mobileme I get this error message:
"Publish Error
Can't create the file "shapeimage-link-2-0.png". The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
It's just one page of text with lots of external links, with no images or shapes. My iDisk has nearly 19G available.
Any ideas why I am failing at the first post?

Dear David
Thank you for all the time and attention. I've now put all my link documents on Google Docs, so at least they can be shared now and I can take time to explore the problem.. I still haven't isolated it although I managed to publish some links this morning. Then I got the same error message again after about 30 mins and it's still there. Maybe it's easier a.m. here when most of you over the water are asleep.
I think I'll take the site down and rebuild it piece by piece. That way if I hit a problem at least I have a chance of isolating it to a particular text box.

  • Links to site come up "can't find the iweb page you've requested..."

    hi-
i was able to successfully republish my updated website (thru mobile me). it was originally published thru .mac last year before .mac changed to mobile me. however, i noticed that my web address does not have "mobile me" in the title as in some of the other websites that i've check out on the boards here. i wonder if that's a problem because when i've e-mailed links (by dragging the address or even copy & paste) to my updated website, the links don't work. it goes to a mac page that says "we're sorry but we can't find the iWeb page you've requested..." however, if i go thru a search engine (entering the first couple words of my site title), the website comes up fine. also, if i type in the full address manually in an e-mail, the link works. the problem seems to be in the dragging of the address directly from the site. are these things related? my website address is: http://www.hale-o-lani-aloha.com. (feel free to critique the site if you have any opinions about it)
    thanks.

    Deona,
Here's another post that might prove useful to you, from the iWeb06 forum. This may help you in the future when you want to update your site:
Because your site is already up on the .Mac server, I would never engage in publishing the entire site again; unless, of course, you just rebuilt the whole thing. Note which pages you made changes to, and publish your site to a folder. Double-click this folder on your desktop, and open the window in column view. Navigate to the Page_files, and the Page.html.
With the Finder window open that is showing your site, Command+N. Another Finder window will open. In this window, navigate to the same files on your iDisk, again, using the Go menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/SiteFolder/Page_files(page.html)
From the iDisk Finder window, drag the Page_files/page.html of the pages that you made changes to to the trash. Now, from the other window, the window which shows your site in the published folder, drag these same files into the iDisk window, placing them in the same SiteFolder directory from which you dragged files to the trash. If you created a new page, you will need to also replace all other Page_files/page.html files which link to new page(s).
What you have just done is replace only the changed files. Because the .Mac slideshow assets are already uploaded, you should not have lost the .Mac slideshow for your photo's pages. Sometimes, it can even get simpler....as an example, I have a site that contains numerous .pdf files. With these, I don't even touch the Page_files/page.html files; I simple go into the Page_files folder and replace the old .pdf file with the new, updated one. Obviously the files are named exactly the same.
This is the best way for you to update your existing site on .Mac. You might also take a look at the ftp client, "Transmit". It works well with .Mac, with the exception that you must use the "Publish to a folder" command in iWeb.

  • How can I publish just one page at a time?

I switched to a new computer, so I moved the domain file. When I open iWeb, all the pages are there. I made one small change, and only want to update the one page, but since it's on a new computer, all the pages are red and I can't publish just one page - every time I try, iWeb tries to publish all the pages, and it errors out every time. Can anyone tell me how to make it publish just one page at time in spite of the fact that all the pages in the sidebar are red? The only reason I can think for the error message is that there's too much content to do it all at once.

Yes. If you are uploading to a server and not MobileMe, then just select the option publish to a local folder.
When you have done this, then use Cyberduck or Transmit and upload just the one page from your site folder to your server, plus it's resultant file. So if you just want to upload a Welcome page for example, use Cyberduck to upload just the Welcome.html page and the Welcome files to your server and into your root folder on your server, which would be either a public_html folder, a www or htdocs folder.

  • But we can't find the iWeb page you've requested

    This is getting FRUSTRATING!
I have created my iWeb pages, clicked PUBLISH ALL TO .mac I get a CONGRATULATIONS message that it's loaded, I click VISIT SITE, and I get this bloody error message
"We're Sorry but we can't find the iWeb page you've requested" It's possible that:
    · The address was entered incorrectly. Check your spelling and try again.
    · The .Mac member of this name has either created a page and removed it or has never published an iWeb site.
    · There is no .Mac member of this name. If you'd like this member name for yourself, sign up for a .Mac account right now and have your own iWeb site in minutes.
Well, I don't know what the deal is. I have done everything I can think of, I am doing everything I am supposed to do! HELP!!!

Nope. Says does not exist. IT DOES! LOL... trust me.

There is no site name between "iweb/" and "/Welcome.html, so that url can't be correct. What is the name of your site inside the iWeb app.

  • Can I publish my iWeb 2.0.4 site?

Can I publish my iWeb 2.0.4 site? I designed it, hit "publish" and it went to now-defunct Mobile Me...

I do believe you can publish your website to a folder.
I think (it's been a while since I have used the older version) in the File menu you should have an option to publish site to a folder.
Then you will need to use an FTP application like Cyberduck to upload files to your web host.

  • Publishing in iWeb page With MONTH view being the default view

    Hi
I'm using iWeb to publish a page, then editing the HTML code to include a non-scrolling frame that is my iCal calendar on it. It works ok EXCEPT that it defaults to a Week View on the web page, and that looks lame because for our purposes it should really default to a MONTH view.
Does anyone know how to make this happen????
    I'm stumped!!!
Unfortunately, I reached my bandwidth limit for this period (first time it's ever happened!) so I can't "show" you the page I'm talking about -- it's shut down until 3/16/07. Sure hope an iCal expert knows how to do this... ???
    Thank you!!!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

After not receiving any replies for a couple days, I took a chance and emailed James Tseng (someone who I saw has been very active and helpful on the boards in the past) directly at [jwtseng at rocketmail dot com] ...and he totally answered this question, and also said "Feel free to post the resolution to your issue on the forums so that others might benefit. You are also
free to refer anyone else to contact me directly." So here it is -->
Thank you for your email. You are always most welcome
to contact me directly since my participation in the
forums is not welcome anymore. I think I see what you
    are talking about.
I published a calendar to use as an example... The
default URL that iCal gives is here...
    http://ical.mac.com/jwtseng/Home
And just as you mentioned, this resolves to a weekly
view by default at this URL...
    http://ical.mac.com/WebObjects/iCal.woa/wa/default?u=jwtseng&n=Home.ics
But if you click on the "Month" tab to switch views,
    the URL becomes this...
    http://ical.mac.com/WebObjects/iCal.woa/wa/default?d=1&u=jwtseng&v=1&y=2007&m=2& n=Home.ics
So that's the secret, then. To get your calendar to
display with the month-view by default, just use this
fully-resolved URL as the src URL in your iframe
function instead of the short URL. That should work
    perfectly for you.
Let me know how it goes...

  • I changed web hosts and can't publish through iWeb SEO Tool or Rage Site Map Automator. Do I need to delete the old site map?

I switched to iPage hosting since Mobile Me is expiring. Also recently upgraded to OS X 10.7.3 and am using iWeb 3.0.4 for my web site design. I published directly to the FTP from iWeb but all title tags, meta tags have disappeared and I'm not showing up in Google or others. I tried publishing from iWeb SEO but it couldn't complete the process.
Should I first publish to a folder as I did before with Mobile Me, then delete all old sitemaps and start over with the Site Map Automator and then try to publish from the SEO tool? Will I lose the key words and meta tags that are already in iWeb SEO?
    Thanks!

The problem is that most tech support people don't understand how iWeb structures a site.
When a visitor types in "domain-name-com" the browser expects to find an index.html in the root folder on the server. In "normal" websites the index.html file is the first page of the site.
The iWeb index.html file is a redirect to the first, or landing, page of the site which is the one at the top of the left column in iWeb just below the site name.
    iWeb produces two index.html files.
One is outside of the folder containing the rest of the files and directs to - folder-name/home-page-name.html
The other one is inside the folder and directs to - home-page-name.html
You have two choices of how you upload the files since you are publishing to a local folder.
You can upload the whole folder plus the external index.html to the root folder on the server and the URL to any page will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/site-name/page-name.html
If you upload the contents of the site folder, and not the folder or the external index.html, the URL will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/page-name.html
See this page for more info and the warning about breaking the RSS feed....

  • I can not publish my iweb site to moblie me

I had originally written and published a site with no problems.
However since then I tried to publish my changes and the iweb would show up as "not responding"
I tried other avenues to change my site which at first worked then failed so I deleted the site amd tried to start over thinking that may solve the issue.
It still will not publish merely stops reponding
Just to clarify - I found that I was able to make changes by publishing the iweb to a folder and then uploading the altered files to mobile me. This worked fine to start with but then I added some hyperlinks then uploaded the replacement html pages again - this caused the whole layout to change. This is the reason why I basically deleted the site.
I can still not publish my site now - same problem when I click the publish or publish all it freezes!

    Hello Frank,
The good thing of all your efforts is that you could determine the problem to iWeb.
    Frank Jacob wrote:
... come on apple get it together!
Well, there are at least 2 more well known issues that you didn't verify yet, at least I didn't see it in your post.
i get a portion of the files published only.
This is a clue to these 2 issues: a wrong filename or a problematic widget.
Go back in history to the point where you had your last successful 'Publish'
Have a good look at the filenames of the pages you created since then.
Is a very big chance there is a "wrong" character in the name or 2 spaces..
With a little bit of luck, when you do a Publish, you can see iWeb hanging on the name
of the problematic page (not always).
If it isn't the filename, try selectively remove widgets and do a Publish.
The moment Publish works, you've found the villain.
As this tip involves deleting things, make a backup of your domain file first.
Let me know if these tips don't apply to your situation.
I still have one radical solution at hand.
    Kind regards,
    Leo

  • Can't publish my iWeb site - has index file something to do with it?

Hi, I've been trying to publish my iWeb site (not on a .Mac account but through ftp upload) but it hasn't worked out so far... I phoned my webspace provider's support service and the wguy I spoke to was convinced that it's due to the index file not being an .html file (he thought that the problem lies with the index.xml.gz file). Searching the discussions on this site, I figure that this isn't what's causing the problem after all...
To continue working on the site while using another computer, I copied the 'Domain' over. Now that I've brought it back to the original computer, it seems to be causing these problems. Any idas what I could do or where the problem lies? I'd be really grateful for any hints as it's driving me 'round the bend! Cheers, A

Did you name any of your site's pages "index"?  That can cause problems.
Are you able to publish your site to afolder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser?  If you haven't tried  do so and see if you can.  If you can and the site works as you designed it then the issue is in the uploading of the files.
In that case you might try using  Cyberduck to upload your site folder and  index.html file to your server.

  • Can not publish to iWeb 3.0.2, maybe a sync problem, how to solve it?

My earlier MacbookPro died and I got a new one. Since then the iWeb does not work at all. I have a valid Mobileme subscription till spring next year, but iWeb does not show the existing sites (which are in the other computer) and does not start publishing and does not want to sync the existing sites into the new one. I can publish to Homepage, though.
The only action iWeb does is to take me to the Sync window, it confirms that I have a valid subscription, but thereafter nothing happens.
This must be a problem with sync settings, I gather, but where do I find it, and the key to solve it?
I do NOT want to sync all information from this computer to mobileme or viceversa, otherwise I loose info stored from the previous computers to my iDisk and mobileme spiderweb.

    tortuga wrote:
iWeb does not show the existing sites (which are in the other computer)
You need iWeb's Domain file from the other computer (your old MacBook Pro) — here's a diagram of where it usually resides:
...But since it "died" and presumably inaccessible, see this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but *there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb*. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
By the way, here's the normal procedure when your old computer has not died:
_iWeb: Modifying your site from another computer_
iWeb: Publish to your MobileMe account from more than one computer

  • I have the 60 day trial of .mac can I publish a web page, nothing is happen

I thought I could try the .mac account free for 60 days and get to publish my web page, it gives the directions but says I have nothing in my pictures. I do, and I've tried adding more but nothing is working. I think maybe I just can't do it unless I pay. Any ideas??

Someone told me :"iWeb, if you have it on your computer, is another way of easily making web pages, though it has its limitations.
You can do all this with the trial of iDisk, and then move to a subscription if you want to, or let it lapse"
So that's why I said iDisk, apparently that is included in my .mac...( sorry I'm so slow, but this is still all just words to me at this point. )
Well, iDisk is not iWeb and will probably not get my web page created...right? And, I can't even get into iDisk because it keeps saying I have the wrong username and/or passcode and "that it will be sent in the clear" whatever that means. (Yikes for this much time lost it would be cheaper to pay someone. ) Anyhow, was that incorrect info??? and why can't I open my iDisk....and thirdly, any way to get a free trial of iWeb? since their is no way to create a site without it.

I have upgraded my iWeb to 2.0.1 twice, installed the program twice, and spent hours "re-dialing" (as suggested by some comments in the discussion) web.mac by trying hundreds of time to publish all the files. I have done this for over a week. The files seem to "appear" on both my end and .mac, but when I try to "visit" the page via any browser or the iWeb menu, I am told that the page cannot be found. Is there any way I can access my files via Dreamweaver?
