Can't save file with special character

I'm trying to download a file using this
do shell script "curl -L " & DLLink & " -o " & destFile
destFile is defined with this
set destFile to POSIX path of ((choose folder) as text) & file_name as text
file_name contains "(" and ")"
AppleScript gives me this error
error "sh: -c: line 0: syntax error near unexpected token `('

You could try using Applescripts 'quoted form of' and let Applescript figure it out.
ie:
do shell script "curl -L " & DLLink & " -o " & quoted form of destFile

or the special charactera are coming unnecessary use the command ............replace all occurances to avoid this..

Can't save file with futura font?

I'm having a problem saving a file that contains the futura font. This is a font my company had to buy. I never had a problem with CS1 or CS2 using this font.
Once I place the font in the document it will let me save it once. After making changes and trying to save again I get a window that simply says "can't save file". I've tried unchecking the pdf compatible option and the compression option with no change.
I found one thread on this site about clearing out the font cache (by deleting the file C:\windows\system32\FNTCACHE.dat) and that didn't make a difference.
When I'm done with the document I'll be converting the text to outlines but I need a fix will I'm working on the doc.

Glad you got it sorted out. After I sent you back the regenerated fonts, I discovered something which I'm posting here for everyone's benefit.
Myle nailed it when he suggested an "an issue with font embedding." The fonts you sent me were all embedding-restricted. It's possible you could have saved your documents had you turned off the PDF compatibility option, but it's moot now.
It's doubtful the fonts I regenerated for you will solve the problem because putting them through my font editor did not remove the embedding restriction. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that your replacement fonts do not have embedding restriction.
To check for the embedding restriction, you don't need a fancy program. Just download this Windows extension from Microsoft and install it. Then, right-click | Properties on any font file will give you a lot more information about that font, including licensing/embedding restrictions.

Deleting file with special character in name gets error -43

In my Trash folder there is a .html file with a name containing special characters (oriental) left over from when I uninstalled Adobe CS2. When I try to change the file name to delete the special characters so I can trash the file, I get error -43, and the name won't change. Therefore I can't get the file deleted from the computer because I can't get rid of the special characters.
Is there another way to accomplish the same thing?

I presume you are referring to the notorious Vietnamese file. Others have had success getting rid of it wuth these instructions .

Photoshop Elements 13 (Mac) Organizer - Can't save file with version sets.

I have spent many hours now trying to get Elements Organizer to save Version Sets when I've edited a photo. I've tried more or less every little thing you can find online without any luck. But just moments ago I found that if I move the file to my desktop everything works just fine. I then tried to edit files in a few other folders (also imported to my Organizer) and found that when ever the folder was named to something with a nordic letter in it (å, ä, ö) then I couldn't save my file with version sets (option greyed out) but if I moved that same file to another folder, well then everything worked as it's suposed to.
I'm using the trial version of PSE 13 for Mac (Yosemite) and the full version is ordered and on it's way. But if this problem can't be fixed, I need to return that order and buy some other photo editing program.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Is there perhaps a solution to this?

I'm using the English version (as more or less always - Swedish is rarely an option). The thing is that I have never encountered this problem before in any other software I've been using, and certainly not in Aperture that I've been using up until now.
I name my photo folders with a date and a few words, for ex. "2014-12-31 New Years in Stockholm" (but I normally write in Swedish). I use this method so that my folder that contains the original photos will be easy to find in even without any other software than Finder (or Windows Explorer if I connect my external drive to a Windows machine). I could change the name of all of my folders, or at least all of the folders with a name containing one or more of the letters Å, Ä or Ö to "force" PSE to work as it should, but why? This really shouldn't be a problem.
I was hoping that their was a simple option or something like that that could fix this issue, but I guess not.
If this problem lies in the software itself I will have to return it and look elsewhere (but where? Lightroom is certainly not an option if Adobe can't handle "normal" letters and Aperture is discontinued in a few months).

Can not delete file with illegal character

have a file with name of e}ail.txt
can not delete it. Tried e*.txt, did not work.
removed everything from the directory , renamed the directory to badDirectory , tried rm badDirectory /s /q
and that didn't work.
dir /X did not report an 8.3 file name.
can not delete file or directory from FileManager either.
went to a Linux box and did an smbfs mount. Still can not delete file.
So, how does one delete a file with a openface curly bracket in the name?

Try using
open dataset <DSN> for output in legacy text mode.
and also in transfer statement pass the actual structure rather than a flat structure, while executing transfer statement for legacy mode the field lengths are taken into consideration and there is no spill over of spaces to the next field
say if you have a structure:
data: begin of wa_output,
name(20),
email(30),
end of wa_output.
and a flat structure
data: w_out(50).
then in transfer statement use wa_output rather then w_out.

when reading this line with FM GUI_UPLOAD this line is split up in two lines in data_tab of the FM,
it is split up at this character

Problably character contains same binary code as line feed + carriage return.
You can use statement below as workaround.
OPEN DATASET file FOR INPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING UNICODE
In this case your system must support Unicode encoding

Clementine can't play files with special characters

I saw Clementine can't play some mp3 files - it would just say "error loading file".
So I opened an mp3 from the terminal and found out that the problem was the characters in the file name.
For example, it wouldn't play "Schiller - Tired (mit Jaël).mp3" but works fine with "Schiller - Tired (mit Jael)"
Any ideas why?

I got several updates last weekend. Since then I can't save my pdf files properly. Before everything was fine.
When I want to open a pdf now - a prompt pops-up, saying this:
Read-only document
To modify this document save a copy on your device. The document will be available to other applications on this device.
I found another thread which describes the same error - but I already have 11.7.1 with 4.4.2 and it does not work.
Can't save files or highlight them on Reader 11.7.0 in Kitkat 4.4.2 Acer A1 Tablet

Are these files stored on your external SD card or your internal storage? Android KitKat has added restrictions for third party apps from modifying content on the external SD Card. Could you please confirm if the issue exists for files on the SD card only?

File Adapter - special character in Filename

Hi,
i have a question concerning file adapter.
Scenario: we are polling files via file sender adapter (FTP).
Problem: if the filename contains a special character, an error is thrown with 'The System cannot find the file specified'
Scope: Special character in filename (not in payload)
Installed: XI 3.0 SP 19 on Linux
Questions:
- what FTP implementation does XI use?
- What do i have to check/upgrade to unicode?
- is it an OS problem or an Java problem or a XI problem?
- or is it not possible copiing files with special characters in filename?

Hi Michael,
The file/FTP adapter supports both passive and active FTP data connection. You can select the data connection while configuring the adapter.
The file/FTP adapter follows specification RFC 959. The specification can be found on the Internet under www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc0959.txt.
For FAQs about the file/FTP adapter, see SAP Note 821267. Please note that you'll need an account to log in on service.sap.com.
Question: How are you specifiying the file name? i.e. Are you using placeholders, like ?, *, *.txt, etc ?
If there's a problem with the filenames, then it should be a problem in the JAVA implementation of the adapter I assume. So you could for instance build your own adapter extension to by-pass that problem.
Just for your information; I haven't encounter a problem with filenames in other projects.
