Can't send messages to other iPhones 5/5s 6

As the title suggests I can not send messages to any of the following handset models, nor receive messages.  I have scoured the internet in hopes of finding information.  I have an iPhone 6 with iMessage activated (verizon).  All my messages from 5/5s 6 users appear on my iPad.  Any help would be greatly appreciated this is extremely frustrating.
Cheers,
Scoots

Hi Scootmagoots,
From your post I see that you are unable to send or receive iMessage on your iPhone.  While this is understandably a very frustrating issue there are troubleshooting steps I'd like you to follow through in order to get this resolved.

  • Can't send texts to other iphones

I have an iPhone 5 that has been updated to ios7.  All of a sudden I am unable to send texts to other iPhone users.  When I type my text and hit send it say's "sending" but never sends.  Now, I have to tap on my message and an option comes up that say's, "send as text message."  HELP!!! I have not had this problem until today.  My husband does not have an iPhone and I am able to send him texts without having to go through the above scenario.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  I tried shutting my phone down and restarting but that didn't solve the problem.  Thank you!!!

imessage will send as a SMS (text) when imessage is not available.
that could mean that you or the receiptant has a weak wifi/cellular data signal, or the receiptant doesn't have imessage turned on.

  • Can't send texts to other iPhone users

Why don't my texts go through to other iPhone users? This just started a couple of days ago. iMessage is turned on, I've reset network connections, reset phone.....nothing works. It's very frustrating! I can't even text my husband who is on the same plan. My phone shows messages were delivered but he doesn't get them.

If your communications issues are limited strictly to Apple devices, ensure that they have iMessage turned ON in Settings-Messages-iMessage.  Be sure that the 'Send & Receive' option includes your current phone number for iMessage - IF that's the desired method of contact -  if they're using their AppleID for iMessaging and you're texting/iMessaging to a phone number (or vice versa), then messages won't be received because of the device settings.  You may want to check your own device as well - to be certain you have properly selected either your phone number, Apple ID or other email address for iMessaging.
Second - be sure that Cellular Data is turned ON.  Otherwise, all data is restricted unless you're connected to Wi-Fi.  This includes texts - SMS, MMS and iMessage.
Third - and this part is very important (and don't ask me why, but it works this way)..
    * Open your Text Messages
    * Check to see if the 'Undelivered' notification is present on ANY text/iMessage stored in your phone - it's a red exclamation point inside a circle.  If it's there, hold your finger on it until the screen gives you the option to 'Try Again' or 'Delete'.  DELETE all messages to all Contacts with these notification symbols.  Then try sending another text or iMessage.  For some reason, if there's ONE undelivered text / iMessage, the iPhone refuses to send/receive as it should.
The last thing I'd suggest is that you check your available storage on your device.  Apple devices are designed to allow a certain amount of space to each operating sector, as a safety feature for the hard drive.  If the specified 'allotment' for messaging is at or near it's maximum capacity, text/iMessaging may not function correctly.  It's a good idea to clean up old data on a regular basis - email, texts, phone logs, and most importantly, internet history (under Settings, select Safari, then scroll down to 'Clear History & Website Data', or maybe 'Clear Cookies & Cache').  This should not only improve the functionality of your device, but help to improve battery life as well.
    I hope this helps.

  • I've upgraded i4 to iOS 7.  Now I can't send SMS to other iPhones.

    Hi Everyone,
I'll bet there is a really simple explanation...
I upgraded my iPhone 4 to the latest OS and all seemed fine, until i tried to reply to an SMS.  The sending bar moved to the right, but stopped at about 80%.  Eventually I went back to the Messages screen ... no sent message and nothing seemed to be queued.
Long story short, I can send SMS to a Samsung on Telstra.  I can receive SMS from anyone, and I can successfully reply to anyone except if they are using an iPhone ... and it doesn't matter if they are on iOS7 or earlier.  ANd it doesn't matter if I use the 10 digit number or the whole +61 thing.
I've tried to go back to iOS 6.1.3, but it looks as if I cannot.
Any clues will be greatly appreciated.  Androids are looking pretty good right now.
    Chris

That SMS setting is just for when you try and send an iMessage and it fails. It will then try to send as an SMS. If you are using an iPhone, you would normally be using iMessage between iPhones, unless you have iMessage disabled. That would be the only way an iPhone to iPhone would be an SMS is if you disable it or it is waiting for activation. Do you have a reason you want to send an SMS to another iOS device?

Is there anything else I should do? Should I just go back to my iphone at this point.. its been over a week. please help extremely frusterated .. thank you!
Call Apple Support.  They have a procedure that can unregister your Apple ID from iMessage and the phone number, as long as you can still receive regular text messages at the phone number on a non-iPhone.

  • I can't send messages or receive them without wifi to other iPhone users,

I can't send or receive a message with using wifi from iPhone users, what do I do?

Right, that's how iMessage works. Are you indicating that you cannot send SMS or MMS messages to other iPhone users over your cellular connection? Can you send them to other contacts (non-iPhone contacts)?
