Can't start httpd/apache on macbook

This is an odd problem which I imported from my Titanium to my Macbook: I can't start personal web sharing. When I do in the control panels, it seems to load endlessly. httpd.conf seems to be ok, as a "httpd -t" returns that syntax is ok.
"httpd -k graceful" returns this:
httpd not running, trying to start
(13)Permission denied: httpd: could not open error log file /Library/Apache2/logs/error_log.
Unable to open logs
an "httpd -E" puts out an error file containing this message:
(13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs
can anybody help?
Thanks: Mathias

I'm having the same problem but I think due to a different reason. It was all working fine in Tiger but with Leopard, Apache got upgraded to 2.2 and now it gives me this error.
I tried my old G3 with tiger on it and it works fine with no problems on 1.3 but since I upgraded my G5 and MBP with Leopard first thing it did was to tell me that access is forbiden (Error 403) to http://localhost/~user/
I'm trying to get a CMS ironed out before it goes on our server so I am just trying to do it through the Sites folder. I have also installed PHP 5.25 and MySQL 5 on the G5. First I thought that PHP and MySQL wrecked the Appche, but MBP hasn't been touched and it does the same thing.
Full error:
Last login: Thu Jan 3 11:04:50 on console
a-ms-power-mac-g5:~ am$ apachectl -k restart
httpd not running, trying to start
(13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
(13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs
I tried to do what previous post said and here is what I got:
a-ms-power-mac-g5:~ am$ sudo /usr/sbin/apachectl start
Password:
org.apache.httpd: Already loaded
I also tried to look for the location to put "logs" folder into and I can't seem to find it.

  • I can't start up my 15in macbook pro due to a reoccurring kernel panic from insufficient RAM

About a week ago my mac froze so I shut it off to restart it, and when it began start up the kernel panic showed up, since then I haven't been able to start it without get stuck on the kernel panic. I'm pretty sure its because of insufficient RAM space, which I've been meaning to clear for a while because I knew it was practically full but I kept forgetting. But now I don't know what to do because I can't get passed the kernel panic (I tried a safe boot as well). Also, I'm away from home for the next month or so, and the country I'm currently in does not have any apple stores so I can't take it to a genius bar. Is there anything I can do?

I think you may be confusing RAM with disk space.
One more time boot in Safe Mode. Keep in mind a Safe Mode boot takes much longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop, right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on the Desktop then click Get Info.
In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If there's not enough free disk space, follow the instructions here > Freeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac GuidesFreeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac Guides

  • My MacBook Pro can't Start

    Hi,
This is so strange, my macbook pro can not start sometimes.
My macbook is an early version in 2011 with Mountain Lion installed now. The first time I can't start my mac in early Auguest.
I checked power, and pressed to start, but I only noticed that only the light flashed once, a very low sound made by the CD-drive I think (Truse me much lower than the normal sound).  The strange things it started againt next day's morning, then I shut it down and went to work, and I couldn't start it in the evening. I have suffered this for three times. Normal to start in the morning, but dumped in the evening. So I disassembled it, but stoped after I toke down the battery and harddisk, then I cleaned the dust and assembled it back. what is surpise, It's back to normal until last Friday.  Yes, It dumped again last Friday with the same symptom, and it seems my mac spent more time to recover itself this time. Last Monday evening it started when I feel hopeless, Tuesday was good, but on Wenday evening dumped again, and keep dumped by now.
Does anyone know what's the problem my computer has? Anything is wrong, power supply? Mainboard?
    Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Not sure if it will help... but... have a look at this discussion...

  • Start bundled Apache automatically at startup

    Hi!
How can I start the Apache bundled with OS X Tiger automatically at system startup?
Today I have to use the apachectl script manually.
    Best regards
    Andreas

To start Apache on startup you just have to do what I said on the previous message. If you want to change the Apache configuration (to enable PHP, for instance) you will need to edit the httpd.conf in /private/etc/httpd/.

  • Can not start mysql server

I recently installed mysql server on my mac os 10.6.8, earlier i had installed XAMPP on my machine but i have uninstalled it(deleted it & ran few commands in terminal), but now when i try to start server from preference pane it doesn't start & not from terminal also, it show " Could not startup MySql sever, Reason: error 255 OR Internal error"
It seems that the new mysql server settings clash somewhere with old XAMPP files/preferences. I don't even know if XAMPP is completely uninstalled or not
I'm not a mysql geek, i'm new to this! So, friends please help me with this, i need to get it working on my mac!!

    I appreciate your help.

Can not start up on my Macbook pro. All I get is a grey spinning wheel. Tried all the Startup key combinations and nothing works. I reset the NVRAM and nothing. I booted with start up disk , ran disk repair and all is ok. Tried to re-install OS but when I get to designating drive its blank. When I go to startup disk there is a "?" mark. When I restart under startup disk search for a drive it still comes up with nothing.  Before I got the grey spinning wheel I had a locked screen. Could not move curser or click on anything. Finally just shut down. Thank you in advance for any help!

Shouldn't still have a 'beachballing'... if the drive is being found and the system is trying to boot from it but is having problems, I would suggest looking over ds store's user tip - Step by step to fix your Mac.
It's likely either something corrupt in your system files or a failing hard drive. But follow ds's steps until you find the cause of the problem.
    Good luck,

  • Can't start MacBook Air––wheel turns around forever

I had my MacBook Air A Rev C 1.86GHz 120 GB powered on and on sleep for about a week. I was using my other MacBook Air and so left this MBA on sleep.
I decided to use the older MacBook Rev C Air again and I tried connecting the ethernet cable to it. The internet connection didn't work, so I restarted the computer thinking it might help.
However, the computer DOES kind of start and I get the apple logo and the light gray background but the wheel goes on forever, for 30 minutes.
When I tried Option-Start, I was able to get into the Windows partition fine, but when I tried Option-Start and selected Mac, I have the same problem––the gray screen and the wheel thing under the Apple logo going around for a while.
I never had any major problems with the computer in the past, and I never had this problem of starting the computer. It was a bit sluggish––would take 3 minutes to start up, but never as long as this. I have tried rebooting several times and it still does not work.
I should tell you that I pressed the "Shut Down" button for five seconds to shut down the computer.
Do you think that caused it?
How can I get the Mac OS back?
Once again, getting into Windows Bootcamp is fine, it's just the Mac part I can't access.
I have the hard drive saved on a backup.
Should I try reinstalling the OS? And do a clean install? And then put all the information back onto the computer using the backup drive?
Just checking here before I try that because that solution takes time.

I went into Bootcamp (Windows XP Prof) and looked at the Macintosh HD drive. I got 97.8 GB total size and then 425 MB free space.
Something happened when I connected the ethernet cord to the USB port and then connected the router. It mucked up my computer and swallowed up GB. I had about 10 GB spare before this happened.
That is probably why the computer can't start up and is stuck at the gray screen with the whirly thing going around forever––there is no disk space for it use its start programs.
I don't know how to clear the unwanted Gigabytes because I can only see Mac HD from Bootcamp.
    Any suggestions?
