Can't update Safari to 3.1.1 or 3.1.2

I have been unsuccessfully trying to update Safari to 3.1.1. I get as far as downloading when I get a message that says that I need 10.5.2 or newer to run this update. I have 10.5.4! I currently have safari 3.0.4 and would like the new version in order to use the mobileme features. Any ideas on what is causing this or what I can do to fix it? Thanks!

You can't update from the download; you must use your Mac OS X installer disc. Insert the disc and browse to the folder named Optional Installs; inside is a package with the same or similar name. Open it and you can choose which application(s) to install there. When that's done, repair permissions, then use Software Update to bring your system up to date. Always have a backup before you install anything.
This issue has been covered numerous times, so you should search the forums for your problem before posting; you could have saved yourself a lot of time.

Can I update Safari v.4.1.3 to Safari v. 5.1 on my iMac v. 10.4.11 operating system?

Click here and see if Apple will send it to you, or buy it on DVD, assuming you have an Intel Mac.
If you have a G4 or G5, you can only upgrade to 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.6.

  • I have a safari browser 5.1 version, how can I update safari browser

I have a safari browser 5.1 version, how can I update safari browser

You need to upgrade the computer's OS or switch to a product such as Firefox.
To upgrade, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • HT201541 How can I update Safari without updating the OS?

How can I update Safari without updating the OS? I presently have 10.7.5 and 1.6.1
I am getting too many notices that my browser is out of date...

PS, a note to Apple. You use terms like Mountain Lion,  Yosemite, etc. But in other places you use
10.6, 11.7, etc. Could you be consistent? use one or the other, not both. Please. Or always use both together.

Shoot Apple, you don't make things easy. I don't want to upgrade OS as you now require an itunes account to get upgrades, and I'm against that. (until I have to).
So I switched to the chrome browser, that works.
PS, Ralph, yes, I can lookup the version numbers, but I have not felt the need to memorize them. My question is why does apple make it so difficult that we have to memorize the version number to name correspondence?

  • Can't Update Safari!  Says I need OS 10.5.2 or newer??? Please Help!

I've been having problems with Safari constantly resetting itself and not being able to navigate to certain pages. So I erased it off my computer and downloaded the 3.1.2 update and tried to install it. But it when I get to the volume selecting screen it has a red stop sign and says Mac OS 10.5.2 or newer is required for this update however I currently have OS 10.5.5 installed. I ended up reinstalling from my Leopard CD but still can't update it. I have repaired permissions, deleted pref files for safari and caches but still nothing. Please Help!

How did you "erase" it? You can't just drag an app like Safari into the trash - it has hooks all over the place and things have hooks into it. You should never remove an app because you think it's not working right, especially since you say it did not work only on some sites. That's not a Safari issue.
You should use the finder to locate anything related to Safari and report back here what you found.
My guess is that you are a candidate for a reinstall of the entire system, but only as a last resort.

  • I can't update Safari, what can i do?

everytime i try to update safari (on the software update window) it does nothing, I it says is that there was an unknow error and i have to contact the software manufacturer.
hope sombody can help me =)
    thanks

When you can't use the Software Updater from the Apple menu, you can use a standalone installer.
The lastest version of Safari for Leopard (going by your profile) is > Safari 5.0.6
Use the installer (Download) from that link.

It's a wide spread issue in Europe by the look of things, I think we just need to wait for Apple to solve it...

  • Can't update Safari to 8.0.2

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro, 13", running Yosemite 10.10.1. In December I got a notification to update Safari, from 8.0 (10600.1.25.1) to 8.0.2, so I went to the App Store and selected "Update" next to Safari 8.0.2. The button changed to "Installed" so I opened Safari to check; the version still shows 8.0 (10600.1.25.1). At the same time, the App Store shows the Update still available - i.e., there's no indication that the update occurred. I tried updating another half dozen times over the past month, with no success.
I've seen other users asking about the same problem, but have yet to see a solution. Does anyone know what's going on here?

OK, I reinstalled Yosemite as instructed, per OS X Yosemite: Reinstall OS X. Took a few hours. When it was done I went to the App Store and selected the Update button next to Safari 8.0.2; an installation tracking bar appeared, and announced "done" when it was finished, at which point my Updates button dropped the "1" it had sported for the past few months. I thought, "Great!," and opened Safari; but it still registered as 8.1. So I restarted my Mac, and opened Safari again only to find it still at 8.1. I then opened the App Store and there it is again, 1 update to Safari 8.0.2 available....
Afraid the reinstallation doesn't seem to have worked.

  • Can't update Safari 5.1.10 for Snow Leopard

On several websites it says that I need to update my browser.  When I click the links, they take me to the Apple website and all it does is tell me to download the regular version of Safari 5.1.10 NOT THE UPDATE.  There are several sites I need to use, that I can't.  Any suggestions?

  • I Can't update Safari 2.0 to 2.0.4

I have been trying to update my Safari 2.0 to 2.0.4. No updates show up in software update. I all ready did a Mac OS X (10.4.10) Combo and PPC update and i still end up with Safari Version 2.0.
    Any ideas?

    Luis,
Click/hold the Safari icon in your dock, and choose the "Show in Finder" selection to make sure that you are using the Safari application which is located in your applications folder.
Next, I would recommend that you check for any additional copies of Safari on your system with Spotlight.
Then remove Safari from the Applications Folder, place it in a temporary folder, and reinstall Safari from your OS X installation disks by using the procedure described in "Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4." Be sure to check and expand the "Package Name" Applications. Then choose Safari.
In order to bring Safari up to the most current version, you should download and reinstall the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update.

  • HT1443 can't update to safari 5.1.7 from 5.0.5 on mac 10.6.8

Can't update safari from 5.0.5 to 5.1.7 on mac 10.6.8. Message says it can't because I already have newer version installed...?

Before reinstalling, it would be far less painful to  try applying or reapplying the 10.6.8 Combo Update which will bring bring a new 5.0.5, then run Security Update 2013-001, which should bring it to 5.1.8.
The Combo Update is not a reinstall, it will just replace missing or damaged files, from 10.6.0 through 10.6.8, including, in this case, the Safari 5.0.5.
You won't have the hassle of running Software Update a zillion times for other items.

  • How do I update Safari if can't update OSX 2007 Macbook?

I have a 2007 Macbook running OSX 10.6.8.  I can't update to later version of OSX because not supported for 2007 Macbooks.  Can I update Safari separately?  When I go to Apple site it only seems to offer Safari as part of OSX update which I can't do.

    Hello susanfromesc,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to update Safari without updating the OS. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
