Can we make a fact column to be displayed as a single ROW in obiee 11g

Hi,
I have a requirement recently, where i need to show a fact column which shows the total value, as a single row in the main report.
Total

Changed to..
Total
1000
Can we achieve this in OBIEE.
Please share your inputs. Much Appreciate it !

Yes you can. Follow these steps:
1> Create the LOV (which you can create from another table, as you mention). and test it.
2> Now you create one ADF Table on the page.
3> Select the Table in staructure window > select af:column(the column where you want put you lov) > Inside the af:column, Replace the Uicomponent by the LOV(which you created in step-1)
4> Save & Run

Fact columns Datatype is changing from char to int in OBIEE 11g

Hi ,
I am taking measure columns - "product description","tot cost" against a dimension "project name" .
I am generating this report in a planing form and OBIEE .
in planing form :
product description tot cost
project name
P1 A 1500
p2 B 1700
p3 C 1800
in obiee report :
product description
project name
P1 16 1500
p2 17 1700
p3 19 1800
Somehow , measure's datatype are getting changed from char to number , in OBIEE report.
By default , the data type for all fact's is Double .I tried changing that to varchar , but result is same .
Do I need to change anything in physical layer / RPD .
OBIEE version : 11.1.1.6
Essbase version : 11.1.2

Thanks for your reply . To confirm , the data type of product description column is "double" in essbase .
I found out ,thers's a RDBMS table , consisting of two columns - ID, text value . where product description's are in text value's with the corresponding ID's(integer values) .
Now , when I am creating a form in planning , its fetching the text values of product description (there's some inbulit setting's available for this in plannng) .
However , in obiee its fetching the ID values of product description .
So ,
1. Is there any similer setting I can do for OBIEE , so that it's fetches only text value's of product description .
2. If not , then I have to join the essbase fact table with this RDBMS table . I am not sure how to do it .

How can I make an external monitor the main display?

I have a mid 2007 iMac running OS X 10.4. The internal monitor is broken and all it shows is a bunch of lines.
I have connected an external Samsung monitor. All I see in it is a desktop background: no icons, no menus, no dock. I believe this is because the display is in extended mode and the main display is the internal monitor. I cannot use the System Preferences Panel to change this, because the internal monitor is useless.
I have a second, newer iMac, from which I can login to the first via ssh.
Is there a way to make the external monitor the main display from the command line?
(I have though of editing the Preferences List, but I do not know what to change and how to change it. I do have Developers Tool installed and thus can access the Preferences List Editor.)

Hi everybody!
To solve the problem I wrote a script that creates a Systems Preferences windows which shows up in the external monitor. Once this happens the configuration can be changed manually, to make the external monitor the main display. This is what I did:
First I created a user with automatic login in the faulty machine. To do this:
1.- Restarted this malfunctioning iMac in Firewire Target mode.
2.- Rebooted the working iMac using the other machine as startup disk.
3.- Created the user.
4.- Restarted both machines normally
Next I wrote a script which opens System Preferences and shifts its window to the left:
5.- In the working machine I saved the script as a 'Run only' application:

set wx to 600
set wy to 600
set the bounds of the first window to {x0, y0, x0 + dx + wx, y0 + wy}

6.- Then uploaded it to the iMac with the faulty screen.
7- Shut down both machines.
Then I added the script application to the automatic login user in the faulty machine:
8.- Restarted the malfunctioning iMac in Firewire Target mode.
9.- Rebooted the working iMac using the other machine as startup disk.
10.- In System Preferences added the script to login items.
11.- Restarted both machines.
The System Preferences window now showed in the external terminal. I was able to go into the Displays pane and set the external monitor as the main display (dragging the white bar to it).

Multiple fact column should show the value in different row.

Hello experts,
We have a requirement in this way. I have to build a report with three fields: date, Fact :No of jobcard open, No of jobcard closed. Report should come in this way..

Hi Niraj,
Just pull the columns into your criteria request and from compound layout select pivot view so all your columns will be in place in pivot table.
Then you pull your columns accordingly seeing the pivot structure i.e. placing date at the top and in measure section place the fact column and in rows section place the jobcard closed.Folow these and you would get the result.

Place both those columns in measure and the date column as you need at the top.Just play around with the pivot view by placing here and there and check results.
So you will get idea and that will fulfill your requirement.

How can i make a linking column in a report

I basically want to add a column to the end of my reprot that contains the test more info and then make this linkable for the attrubuites of that particualr row.
I know how to make a column linkable and how to link it to the id of the row, all i need to know is how to add a row to the report conitaning the same value for each row like a default row or something?

Thanks i have done this to add a clumn link and put all the links in correctly the thing i am having trouble is where to put the word "more Info" so that this is then displayed in the column and linkable.
I have tried putting this in HTML Expression [Insert column value] but this only shows the word more info the link doesnt work.
Any one any ideas?

How can I make the playlist column appear on the left side of iTunes?

Help! I'm left handed nearly always set everything up to the left side of the page. I'm having trouble training my brain to navigate on the new iTunes home page. Moving playlist info. etc. to the right said of the page is uncomfortable for me and distracting. Anyone know how to move this column from the right side of the page to the left?

How can I make some pages in a PDF display in single-page view and others in two-page (facing) view?

Exactly as it says on the tin. I am looking to save a PDF magazine/book layout in such a way so that when opened, only the front and back covers open to the viewer in single-page mode, and the rest of the pages in two-page facing mode, without re-printing the in-between pages in booklet format and re-inserting them into a new PDF (with the front and back covers left separate and untouched, and included as single portrait-orientation pages). This is so that individual pages can still be printed (on a physical printer, not a "virtual" one like a PDF driver), as-is without having the page next to it included, or the printouts always requiring landscape orientation (resulting with two "pages" from the PDF showing up on one sheet of paper).
So when the PDF is opened, I want just the front and back cover to be auto-viewed by themselves, and the content (the "meat" of the document) viewed side-by-side, as though one were actually reading a "book" -- but without actually re-doing the content pages to be "fused" side-by-side. Thus creating the "illusion" that they are, in fact, in booklet form. Is this possible, to have different page-display settings for different pages/page ranges in a single PDF? If so, how is this done? If not, what would be my best course of action otherwise to achieve this "virtual" book layout, while still retaining the "physical" structure of the document and allowing individual pages to be printed by themselves rather than "fused" together?

How can I make presenter notes longer on presentation display?

They currently only show about 3 lines at a time when im rehearsing my presentation and would like to change that so i can see more of my notes when Im presenting.

Playing around with this, I found that in Mavericks, if I have 3 displays going I will get one whole display of Presenter Notes. With two, Notes are in a very small space.
Don't know if this helps, but with modern MBPs and Mavericks, you can do some pretty amazing stuff.

Yes you can get the device id, try following stuff:

Can I make my iPod I'm using display albums, like the iPod "Classic"?

I was wondering if there's a way to make my 30GB 1st Generation iPod Video (it came out around the same time as the 1st Gen iPod Nano) display the same way as the iPod Classic and 2nd Gen iPod Nano. Also I was just wondering if the iPod touch also uses the same display as the iPod Classic.

The 2nd gen nano doesn't have the same display as the iPod Classic. Maybe you meant the 3rd gen?

Coverflow is similar, but in almost every other respect, it's different.

At the bottom of an account website, a VeriSign gold padlock is visible on a horizontal bar. This bar takes up needed screenspace on this site. Can I make it so firefox does not display this bar? (even if it needs to be done manually each time). Thanks!

SQL Multiple Columns Displayed in a Single Row

Hello everyone,
I have 2 tables, Product and Product_Name, one Product can have more than one name.
I need to retrieve it in such a way that I show the Product_ID followed by all the names this product has.
I'm not able to make it, every way I try I get the Product ID duplicated and several rows with a different product name on each row as follows:
1, 'Iron Z"
1, 'Iron M'
1, 'Iron N'
2, 'Wood P'
2, 'Wood M'
What I need is:
1, Iron Z, Iron M, Iron N
2, Wood P, Wood M

SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH seems to be the most popular way of doing string aggregation in Oracle 10. The example given on the Oracle Base page (which I posted in my last message) is a little clumsy and inefficient. See the following thread for a better example, using CONNECT_BY_ISLEAF:

Report output format xml, missing column while open in excel for single row

There is a strange case, we have an customize concurrent program to display output in xml format. Now Problem is, if query get single record on the bases of parameter then there is no column heading available in excel. However, if parameter meet more than one record then there is no issue with column heading and reports is working find.
Pls have an idea?

Let explain you, first i have run report by restricting query on single record which output name is "output1", again i run same report by changing where clause so it return multiple row which is "output2". if you past code in text document each one and save it as xml but when you open this file in excel report you will find column heading which rows consist multiple row, however, ouput1 file have no heading columns that's a problem.

Fact columns in dimension table

In OBIEE, Can we use a fact column in related dimension table in case this column is just an description column? Yup I know that use fact columns in fact and dimension in dimension.. But what exactly will be issue if we do this? I observed it in one model.. No data connection was there to test..

Why can't you create two tables in BMM one is as FACt and DIM and place all description columns in dim and measures in fact?
this way you would achieve Star Schema in BMM

Implicit Fact Column being ignored

Hi,
I have a Business model containing two fact tables with a shared sets of conformed dimensions. Dim1 and Dim2 are both mapped to Fact1 and Fact2.
When I select attributes from Dim1 and Dim2 (without facts), OBIEE picks Fact2 to pull up the records. Since I want OBIEE to use Fact1, I've setup an Implicit Fact Column using a measure of Fact1.
After restarting all services, OBIEE still picks Fact2 (probably because it has less -conformed- dimensions). When I check the physical query, the Implict Fact Column is NOT included in the select statement so OBIEE is basically ignoring it.
Is there any config-setting which influences how OBIEE activates the Implicit Fact Column?

Well.... not really suggestions... but I did some more google research and came out with some comments...Pls. note that they are not mine comments... just copy/paste from a couple of blogs.
"This column is generally the *lowest granularity column* of the fact table like Row_wid etc"

If a fact contains data at a more granular level then always that will be preferred over the other fact.
The 'Implicit fact column' comes into picture when you want to enforce a fact as the default path when used in a report."
