VLC is an application which can play most video files including AVI. Go to http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html . I'm assuming that when you say "I can't see it with the upgrade" that you mean the file can't be played, not that you can't find it on the external drive.

Can not print from preview after Lion Update

I can't print from preview since I updated to Lion. After I hit command P or select print from the file tab preview totally freezes up and gives me the spinning wheel of death until I force quit preview. I have no issues printing from anything else, such as word, excel, web pages. So I don't think it's a printer/driver error. Help?

I would still mention what printer you have and make sure you have the latest printer driver.

Can't print mail from mountain lion

Since installing the upgrade of Mountain Lion my wife has lost the ability to print email messages. I saw a few posts on here about this issue but never saw a workaround or a fix for this issue. Anyone have an idea of how to get by this until an update fixes the issue. This is the only program that has lost ability to print.

Problems with HP Printer working wirelessly after installing Mountain Lion. After calls to Apple and HP found this Solution on a HP discussion Board. it works. my Printer is the Photosmart Plus B209a-m but the fellow how posted the Solution did it for another HP Model.
1. On the printer navigate to the Wireless or Network menu.
2. Select Restore Defaults.
3. On your computer look for a wireless network named 'hpsetup' and connect to it.
4. Print a Wireless Network Test from the front of the printer to see its IP address. (on my b209a-m Printer the IP info was found by pressing the Wireless Icon)
5. Type the IP address into the address bar of a web browser to see the printer's internal settings.
6. Click on the Network tab and look for the Wireless Setup Wizard and run it.
7. The Passphrase is the password you use on your wireless connection.
8. Now change the network name on your computer back to your wireless network.
The printer will now be connected to your network. Connect the computer back to the network and re-add the printer from System Preferences.
Hope this works--- it did for me.

Can I print avery labels in Lion?

I want to update my Avery ProDesign to Lion in order to broaden my label choices. Does anyone have suggestions on where to find an update? I have tried to download the free software and it gets stuck with the pinwheel. It makes me think that DesignPro does not have an update available.

If the software is PPC based then the answer is no. The easiest way to check is to open System Profiler (Applications - Utilities - System Profiler) then click Applications then look in the Kind column, if the app is PPC based then it will be noted as such. If the app is Intel or Universal it should run fine in Lion.
To be 100% sure you should contact Avery and ask if the app has been tested with Lion.

Can't print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion

I would like to share my experience battling to figure out how to print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion. Myself had this problem and looking throughly in internet without success. But finally I figured out the solution by myself, hope this can help other Mac user with similar problem.
OK, when I try to setup my new MacBook Pro with OS Lion to connect with my Canon MX308 printer attached to desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate,
1. I simply select System Preferences>Print & Scan.
2. Then looks for the + sign just below the box to add a new printer.
3. From the option toolbar above, I select Windows. I have connect this MacBook with my Windows Network, so the workgroup will appear to the left column.
4. After I select this group, the computer list will appear in the middle column
5. Then after I select the computer which my printer connected to, my printer sharename will appear in the right column
6. Last step is to select the printer I want to use.
7. After that it will automatically put your printer sharename to the "Name". And then I select my printer driver at "Print Using" and find my printer manufacturer which is Canon MX300 series from driver lists. Finish!
My printer appear in the Printers List. But the problem is everytime I try to print there will be error message saying "ON HOLD Authentication Required".
This problem start to kill me, I search all around for similar problem, but the solution was never worked for me!
Until just now I figured out accidentally for the solution.
THE PROBLEM LIES ON MY PRINTER DRIVER!!!! Although I have downloaded the most update driver from Apple site and Apple Software update said there is no more update for my system!
The solution for my problem is Gutenprint Printer Driver! You can download this driver at http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php, then select for the latest driver gutenprint-5.2.7.dmg. Install this driver!
Then back to Print & Scan in System Preferences, then right click on Printers List box, then choose "Reset Printing System..." to clear the previous failed printers.
After that, repeat the above step 2 - 7. Only for the last step I need to select the Printer Driver for my Canon MX308 for the driver name : "Canon PIXMA MX300 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7"
Now I can sleep as a baby knowing that my printer make a friend with my new Macbook Pro! Hope this will help others!

I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past? Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

Can't Print PDFs in Lion

I am desperate for a solution. Since installing Lion I can't print any PDFs. Printer dialog box just shows constant loading, spooling. I've had to send the PDF to myself in an email or download it through my son's PC laptop, connect his laptop to my printer and it prints from there fine. Ridiculous waste of time when working on a big project. I am able to view PDFs and apparently also save them (only through the floating Adobe dialog bar that drifts up at the bottom of the screen) but the using the print icon there yields the same result as going to the top bar to File-Print. I appears I have Adobe Reader 10.1.3, and I have Lion OS10.7.4 -
I won't be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion because I have a MacBook Late 2007 with a 2.2GHx Intel Core 2 Duo, and a HP Photosmart C4200.

For some reason I cannot find the Apple Preview app to open and print PDFs. I looked at the hard disk and it appeared ok but did not want to mess with a repair on the Disk Utility - I'd go to the Genius Bar first. I can view PDFs within Safari but it still wouldn't print. So I updated to Safari 6.0 and updated my HP driver to what I think is 5.0 and still it wouldn't print PDFs - just continually says "sending data to printer". I went through all the steps and nothing was working (yes, I could print other documents in Word, etc., turned computer and printer on and off to clear memory, it wasn't on a network or peripheral, yes would print from another compter) and finally - Under Solution two, step one: Print the PDF as an image worked! I think I tried this before but it finally worked: Open PDF, Click File, Click Print or Print icon, Click Advanced (in upper right corner) - Advance Print Setup window opens, Select Print As Image checkbox, and click OK, on the Print window, click ok again to begin printing. Yea! It says then if these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue trouble shooting. I have not yet had the time to test this with the many other PDFs I could not get to print, but I'm hopeful. Please let me know if this works for you.

You might find it helpful to "try before you buy" - there is a 30 day free trial offer for Office for Mac 2011, accessible from M's .com website.
You may be able to use this period to open and resave your old documents in a format that enables you to switch instead to using Apple's iWorks apps moving forward.
I initially intended to do something similar, but ended up buying Office as it provided an easier way (for me, at least) to continue working with years worth of old emails, letters, spreadsheets and other documents (from my PC days) without risking damage to their integrity, formatting, etc.

Can't print from Tiger to a shared printer on Mountain Lion

I have a branch office that's running Mountain Lion on one computer and Tiger on the other. How can I print from the Tiger machine to a shared printer on the Mountain Lion computer? I should point out that this isn't a problem when the printer is shared from the Tiger machine, just the other way around.

I just upgrade Macbook air to Mountain Lion, but after upgrade it can not print due to "hold for Authentication" error. Mac asking for User name and password, I tried to enter my mac User name and password but can not help.
I change to other type of printer but still same problem
I also try to reinstall Mac Mountain Lion from start(not update from Lion) but still face off same problem.
Is there anybody can help me for this? I was in big trouble for this problem for over the week.

Since changing to lion I can't print on both side of the paper, I have ticked all of the boxes and nothing changes there is no double sided print box on the print set up screen. I know that the problem is with the iMac as I can print double sided from my iPhone and iPad.

Could you please check to Duplexer unit seem installed on printer properties and in the printing preferences section is it selected to print on both side.
If its not seem installed, adjust to it installed and try again.

When you say hit and miss do you mean sometimes you print a whole document with no problems, or do you mean each document has problems? This is from HP's website for your printer:
Your sig says 10.6.7 but your message says 10.7. So if it's really Lion, this printer isn't officially supported. Elsewhere on HP's site it says updated drivers will be available on your Mac via Software Update. Have you run that recently?

If you upgraded and were using a version of Acrobat Reader that was legacy, that is PPC compatible, then you will have to upgrade to a version compatible with Lion as Lion no longer has Rosetta to interface with the legacy software.
I know that Acrobat, full version, 10 works with Lion...use it myself.

Can't print to my Fuji Xerox C1110 since installing Lion

I can't print to my Fuji Xerox C1110 since installing Lion 4 days ago. I've installed the latest driver (v.2.2). I click on the Print button and nothing happens. I've tried 'Add a printer' but no luck. Is anyone else having the same problem or knows a solution?

After upgrading, I can't print to my department's SMB-shared printers, and neither can the person in the office next to me. Console.app gives this:

I can't seem to get any better error reporting than that. I've tried resetting the print system, re-adding all the printers, and adding the printers as generic Postscript instead of a specific printer. Any thoughts on where to go from here?
