Can we selectively flatten form fields in a PDF file?

I have a PDF with some form fields in it. I want to selectively flatten a few form fields in the PDF using a java API. I have checked the documentation and found a method transformPDF in the OutputServiceService. But this method flattens all the form fields in the PDF document.
Can we selectively flatten form fields in a PDF file? If yes how?
This was possible in Adobe Document Server V6.
Regards,
Ragha

You will need an event in the form that will indicate that you want the flattening done. Once you determine what that is it is simply a single statement for each field:
fieldname.access = "readOnly";
Now when the form is rendered, the user will not be able to get access to these fields.

  • How to specify xml file to populate form fields in the PDF file via command line?

    Hi,
    I would like to specify xml data file to populate my pdf file using command line.
    The form was Reader extended.
    I've tried the following syntax :
    Acrobat.exe /A "zoom=100" "C:\example.pdf"#xml="C:\example.xml" but got an acrobat error: "the file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect".
    Where am I wrong?
    Thanks!

    >If I understand correctly you propose something like this
    Something like, yes.
    >
    >Acrobat.exe /A "zoom=100" "xml=C:\example.xml" ....
    Certainly, neither will work. /A is followed by a single quoted
    string. There must be some separator, but I don't know what it needs
    to be (as I was alluding to in my first reply).
    To see if there is any hope, just try without the zoom= completely. In
    any case you can set the zoom in the document properties.

  • I paid for exportpdf and everytime i try to use tool on pdf, it asks me to subscribe. i have to log into website EVERY time. not acceptable.  how can i export only form fields that were filled in?

    i paid for exportpdf and every time i try to use tool on pdf, it asks me to subscribe. i have to log into website EVERY time. not acceptable. Some forms can't be saved so having to log in and only use webtool to upload a saved pdf won't work.
    as well, how can i export only form fields that were filled in if I can get pdf to save to computer?

    Hi kstine,
    I can see why that would be frustrating! Have you tried selecting Stayed Signed In underneath the Adobe ID and Password boxes when you try to log in?
    What did you use to create the PDF form? If you used FormsCentral, form data is saved to your online FormsCentral account. If you have Acrobat, you can export form data as described  here: Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Manage form data files

  • Acrobat Flattening Form Fields and Optimizing for Web

    I'm trying to optimize a PDF for the web and flatten all the form fields. I also want to remove the purple dialogue box at the top when optimizing on the web. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've toiled around with it for some time and can't seem to figure it out. In the older version, I would simply save it as a file optimized for the web, which would then flatten all the form fields and remove the purple box at the top. Any help would be appreciated.

    Your question really belongs in one of the Acrobat forums. I flatten form fields (use the pre-flight tool) and then save for the web.

  • Need to flatten form fields in pdf

    After a reader extensions enabled form has been submitted, we need to preserve a read-only version of the pdf. Where in the tangled mess of products and api's would I find a server-side version of the PDF Optimizer's flatten form fields feature?

    Thank you Paul!
    Could you please be so kind to help me build the right XFDF file?
    I have tried already something like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xfdf xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/xfdf/" xml:space="preserve">
    <f href="Form.pdf"/>
         <fields>
              <field name ="DATASET">
                   <field name ="FIELDNAME"><value>1</value></field>
              </field>
         </fields>
    </xfdf>
    But it doesn't work
    I also have tried to fill it using xdp
    Like
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <?xfa generator="AdobeLiveCycleDesigner_V8.0" APIVersion="2.5.6290.0"?>
    <xdp:xdp xmlns:xdp="http://ns.adobe.com/xdp/">
    <xfa:datasets xmlns:xfa="http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-data/1.0/">
       <xfa:data xfa:dataNode="dataGroup"/>
       <dd:dataDescription xmlns:dd="http://ns.adobe.com/data-description/" dd:name="DATASET">
             <FIELDNAME />
       </dd:dataDescription>
    </xfa:datasets>
    <pdf href="Form.pdf" xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/xdp/pdf/" />
    <connectionSet xmlns="http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-connection-set/2.4/">
       <xmlConnection name="Datenverbindung" dataDescription="DATASET">
          <uri>.\blank.xml</uri>
       </xmlConnection>
    </connectionSet>
    </xdp:xdp>
    and blank.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <DATASET>
       <FIELDNAME>Test</FIELDNAME>
    </DATASET>
    It doesn't work either.  In both cases the PDF opens but the data will be not populated. :-(

  • Duplicating form fields from one PDF document to another

    Hi,
    Does anyone know of a way to select and duplicate all acrobat form fields from one PDF document into a new PDF document. I know I can do so one field at a time but would like to know if there is a way to do so in a wholesale fashion.
    Our PDF documents are created in-house each year and are nearly the same as the previous year's document containing 99% of the same form fields in the same locations. These forms contain a lot of form fields, anywhere from 50 to 100 fields.
    Rather than start from scratch each year defining the same fields that were present in the previous year's document, I am looking for a way to copy the form fields from an existing PDF document (last year's PDF in our case) and copy the form fields into a new PDF document (that does not yet have any form fields defined) and hopefully maintain all the field attributes and positions from the previous years document.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Steve

    The PDF template we need to copy the form fields "to" doesn't start out having any form fields. It is the fields that we need copied from a previous year's PDF template.
    Here's an except from my original post: "I am looking for a way to copy the form fields from an existing PDF document (last year's PDF in our case) and copy the form fields into a new PDF document (that does not yet have any form fields defined)"
    The "new" PDF template is a complete "paper" form with updated legal text and calendar year referrences but NO form fields. In our IS group, we then take these forms, add form fields to them and are then able to populate them with database-resident user data. We serve them up to the user in their browser pre-populated with their application data.
    So again, our need is to find a way to copy form fields from "last year's" PDF template and copy just the form fields to an fresh "new year's" PDF template that contains no form fields to begin with. What we begin with is just a PDF representation of a paper student loan application.
    Thanks for the suggestion!

    The only Flash Player that is remotely connected to Adobe Reader is the plugin.

    how can i save my form design as a pdf?

    You will need to have a paid FormsCentral account (Basic or Plus) or a copy of Acrobat Pro XI.
    If using a paid FormsCentral account with the form open for editing you select file menu File-> Save As PDF Form...
    If using Acrobat Pro XI you will create the form using FormsCentral for Acrobat and select menu File-> Save As PDF Form...

  • Webpage PDF states This file is a PDF form when no form fields in actual pdf

    I have an acrobat.com account, and when uploading and displaying pdf's in a webpage, even when there are no form fields in the pdf it states that "This file is a PDF form, please download and fill in"
    Even creating a new pdf this state seems to now be the default in Acrobat Pro 8 on my Mac, how do i reset back to defaults so this does not happen?
    See https://acrobat.com/#d=5p8gk446VqZNgeNfbRc8-w
    For what i mean...there are no fields in this pdf....when saving an existing pdf or creating a new one this now happens.
    many thanks

    That's not the only problem looks like adobe.com has problems as well. IF the same site is spoofed with FF useragent, works perfect.

  • Acrobat SDK to create form fields on existing pdf

    I am trying to implement a browser based editor for my company's application. This requires to fetch an already created pdf document, add form fields on it and display on a browser.
    Does it look feasible? Does Acrobat SDK allow to create a fillable pdf from an existing file?
    Vishal

    Vishal:
    Take a look at the FormFieldSampleService in the Datalogics PDF Java Toolkit. The toolkit was developed by Adobe and, as you'll see in the sample, provides an API to add fields to a PDF file.

    I tried downloading updates like it said to but it still will not display the document.  How do I print the PDF file ASAP

    Can you give us a LOT more info?
    What email client? What version of Reader (I can only assume you even have Reader at this point)?
    Please wait? I'm sure it says more than that, right?
    Have you tried simply saving the PDF (it IS a PDF correct?) to your desktop and opening it from there?
    Did you get this form from the IRS or did it come from somewhere else? If the IRS again, what version of Reader?

  • How to add digital Signature Field in cfdocument pdf files?

    Hi,
    We are generating pdf files using cfdocument to populate values and wondering how we can add digital signature field in those pdf files. Any help or comments would be deeply appreciated.
    Thanks,
    hismail786

    Hi,
    Yes, we have options to add digital signature to the pdf. We have one attribute called "Permissions" in "cfpdf" tag. If we provide permissions = 'AllowSecure', then system would allow digital signature for that pdf.
    Please go though the docs for details info. I will post in details next.
    Thanks

  • How can I enable Safari's ability to display pdf files?

    Hi there,
    In Safari 4.0.3 (MacBook Pro) pdf links open as a dark grey block. That is, instead of the intended text, I see just dark gray.
    Control-click allows me to save the file to the desktop in which case Preview can open them with no problem.
    How can I enable Safari's ability to display pdf files?
    Thanks for any help,
    Jacobo

    HI,
    If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader, launch Adobe Reader. From the Menu Bar, click Adobe Reader/Preferences. Select the Internet category...the top option is the one you want. Uncheck the box to make sure Adobe doesn't keep making itself the default reader.
    You might also need to open /Library/Internet Plug-Ins and delete Adobe's PDF viewer plug-in.
