Can Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8 Licensing be downgraded to POSReady7?

We are converting some customers older Windows CE POS terminals to POSReady7.
With adding the needed hard drives, these terminals do support POSReady7 and their is an image available.
It is very hard to buy POSReady7 Licensing without buying a new terminal, but I want to keep it proper when it come to having the correct number and level of Licenses.
Can I buy the customer Windows 7 or 8/8.1 Pro, and downgrade them to POSReady7?
Thank You,
Ray.

POSReady 7 comes under a different license. You should contact a Microsoft distributor to get more information and access to POSReady 7.

The answer is, Yes. If you enabled Find My Mac, then you could track it or erase it using your iCloud.com webpage and clicking on Find My Phone after signing in.
What To Do If Your Mac Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Mac before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi. What you cannot do is track your computer using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your computer for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty. Be sure to report the loss or theft to the local police. Have the serial number handy. If your Mac is found it cannot be returned to you if you don’t have the serial number and proof of purchase.
Find My Mac can be used from Find My Phone at iCloud.com and via Find My Phone on your iDevice.

It all depends on what your useage of Windows will be, for playing games install it in BootCamp, for word processing, spreadsheets, email. browsing etc a virtual Machne will be fine.

I wouldn't recommend installing through a network connection.
    For a Virtual Machine:
If you have the Win 7 media (DVD), use an app like PowerISO or MagicISO to make an ISO file of the install disc and use that.
    For BootCamp:
Use the original install media and BootCamp Assistant, to install from your DVD Drive.

  • Can we start Windows 7 VMs on Windows 7 Enterprise without an additionnal Windows 7 license

    Hi,
I'm currently using Windows XP mode on my Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, it is great as it allows me to run legacy applications.
I'm wondering if I could build a Windows 7 (64 or 32 bit) VM that could run much like Windows XP Mode without an additional licenses.  I would use it to perform tests and installations without "corrupting" my base Windows 7 and restoring a
bacl-up to return to a clean slate.
I have done searches on the web and could not find anything close except this:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/simonmay/archive/2011/01/13/windows-7-licensing-and-virtual-machines-clarified.aspx
But it does not mention if it can run much like Windows XP mode or if it requires additional licenses.
That would be a great feature to be able to run a Windows 7 VM much like Windows XP mode.
    Thank you.

Any and all Windows 7 VMs must have their own license, either one unique license for each VM or a Volume License to cover the number of VMs you need.  A VM is treated the same as a physical piece of hardware.

i can install mac pro retina for windows 8

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8 at the moment, but if you have OS X Mountain Lion, Apple should release an update soon with Windows 8 support.
If you want to use Windows 8 now, you can install Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox and install Windows 8 on a virtual machine. Another option is to install Windows 7 on Boot Camp if you want.

I am a small business and I was thinking of using the new mac pro for a new workstation on my studio and to also use it as a server for 5 work others stations. Is that possible? Or I am asking a bit to much work load to do for the Mac Pro?
Can the Mac Pro can run under Window XP and Autocad and still be accessed by other workstation whilst working on the cad software? Is booth camp will slow the machine like Virtual PC?
IS the MAc Pro can manage file hosting website with PHP and mySQL capabilites?

  • Will adding a new OEM Windows 8 license to the system replace and free the current OEM license?

I have computer (computer A) with a Windows 8 Standard OEM license. I would like this computer to run Windows 8 Pro OEM, and move the Standard license to another computer (computer B).
Correct me if I'm wrong (and please confirm if I'm right), but as far as I've understood it the OEM licenses have changed from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and on Windows 8 they are no longer tied to the hardware. Therefore, I assume the license doesn't need the
manufacturer's special disc or recovery drive to install. (This is not really an issue, since I have the DVD anyway.) The Windows 8 license should thus be free to move around, as long as it's only installed on one computer at the time and is activated online.
There should therefor be unproblematic to move the Windows 8 Standard license from computer A to computer B, so that I can install Windows 8 Pro on computer A. If this is true, could I just buy a Pro license, go to Control Panel on computer A and add this license
with "Add features to Windows 8.1"? Will this Pro license then replace my Standard license, or will they co-exist somehow? Will the Standard license be free so that it can be moved to comptuer B after I have added a Pro license? I would rather avoid
formatting computer A, but I will format computer B.

I'm not aware that OEM-supplied/attached licenses are now able to be moved. Can you provide a reference for that theory?
OEM SB (System Builder) licenses, if you are building for yourself (i.e. not building to resell), *DO* allow transfer
    http://personaluselicense.windows.com/en-US/default.aspx
So, here's how I understand it:
    a) if you build your own computer, and purchase an OEM SB for that computer, for your own personal use, that license can be transferred to another computer.
    b) if you buy a computer which is already built and has Windows OEM attached, this Windows license cannot be transferred to another computer

  • Windows OEM license to Hardware relationship.

I’m asking this question in the Hardware forum because from what I’ve read; a Windows OEM license is married to either one Motherboard, or a Hard Drive.
Is that true ? Results from searching have given me conflicting answers.
What happens if the Motherboard or C: Drive dies? would the associated Windows license be lost along with it?
One computer components store told me that qualifying for OEM no longer depends on what components you buy, or when you buy them. That conflicts with everything else I’ve read.
Note- My choice of Windows OS is Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit, SP1, OEM.

Windows activation is coupled to a number of components in your computer, mobo, CPU, boot disk, video card, memory. Up to a certain degreee components can be exchanged when they die, but when too much - in Microsoft's opinion - changes, the activation is lifted. Where those limits are, I don't know. If it happens, you can always contact Microsoft for a reactivation. I had to do that once and it was a simple matter of picking up the phone and give them a call and an explanation. Reactivation was immediately arranged.

  • Can Windows Server Backup spread a single backup job across multiple disks if they are not set up as a virtual disk?

This may be a dumb question, but I can't seem to find any definitive information after having done many, many searches.  Short question is - can Windows Server Backup spread a single backup job across multiple disks if they are not in a storage
pool or some other RAID/JBOD structure?
    Background:
I'm running Server 2012 Essentials with all Windows Updates installed.  I have been backing up approx 2.8TB of data (Bare Metal Recovery, C:, S: (shared folders), and system reserved) for the past year+ onto a storage pool made up of two-2TB external
USB drives.  Backup is slow (takes approx 1.5 days to complete), but generally works.  Not surprisingly I was constantly getting capacity low messages so I decided to increase my backup storage pool by adding a 3TB drive and another spare 750GB drive
for a total of 7.75TB.  Instead of having four separate external USB enclosures, I bot a 4-bay enclosure - Startech.com model #S3540BU33E to simplify this (or so I thought!).
The first problem I had was adding the two new drives to the existing storage pool. I think that is because the Startech uses a JMicron USB controller that reports identical uniqueid's for all drives so only one shows up in the GUI interface for creating storage
pools. After doing research on this, I set up a new storage pool and virtual disk using all four drives via Powershell and thought I was good. However, when the backup ran, it failed after filling the first drive, saying there was no remaining capacity. In
reality there were three remaining empty drives and there storage pool reported almost 5TB of avail capacity. I assumed this was due to the identical uniqueid issue so I decided to try a different tactic.
Instead of using a storage pool that combines all four disks into one virtual disk, I just added each of them to Windows Server Backup as individual drives thinking it would manage them collectively. I.e., when a drive filled up during a particular backup,
it would just start using the next drive and so on. Apparently this was a foolish assumption because the backup failed again as soon as the first disk filled up.
So now I don't know if this is still an issue with the identical uniqueid's or if Server Backup actually can't spread a single backup across multiple individual drives that aren't in a pool or other virtual disk implementation. Hence, my original question.
My guess is that it does *not* spread them across individual disks, but I just wanted to get confirmation.
    Thanks

    Mandy,
Thank you for following up on my question.
Unfortunately the article you referenced doesn't address what I am trying to accomplish.
The article focuses on saving the same backup job to multiple disks and rotating the disks between on and offsite for enhanced protection.  However, it still requires that an individual backup job fits on a single disk.
What I am trying to determine is if a single backup job can span across more than one physical disk (during the backup process) without those physical disks being in some type of virtual disk implementation (e.g., storage pool, RAID, etc.).
    Thanks,
    Gerry

  • Itunes library is on a mac formatted external hdd: can windows recognize it

subject pretty much says it all. can windows recognize my mac formatted external hdd? i know when i had my ipod formatted to windows, the mac recognized it, but will the mac formatted drive allow windows to see it, play the music, and possibly move it to my ipod?
    thanks!!!

Default, Windows will not recognize Mac formatted disks.
A number of applications can enable Windows to read them.
Take a look at this page: http://www.macwindows.com/disks2.html
I don't have experience with any of the apps. mentioned on that page, so I can't tell you how they perform.
Maybe posting in the iTunes for Windows forum will result in specific information.
