Can you add RAM to 2GB MacBook Air after purchase?

I'm thinking of getting a Macbook Air. Money is tight and 2GB RAM is cheaper than 4GB. If you purchase a 2GB MacBook Air, can you later add more RAM?

Depending on what you are planning to use the system for, adding more RAM may not be an issue. The current 11" entry-level MBA is a capable system which would only really begin to bog down if you were intent on running a number of applications at the same time. While 2Gb RAM is really the minimum for running Lion efficiently, the use of an SSD rather than traditional hard drive actually helps keep performance levels up, even when the system has to use virtual memory.
To my mind, for the average user, the 60Gb drive is more of a limiting factor.

You can, but it's very difficult and you will void warranty, so it's better not to do that and buy the iMac with the amount of memory you think you will need

Can I add ram to this macbook to be able to make it more compatible and be able to open applications that I can't without upgrading my software?
Is It worth it? How much Ram would I have to add for Lion software? Is that possible?
I am not in the position for a new computer and this one is good, it is just frustrating that some application that friends send to me do not open.

  • Can you upgrade your mid 2011 macbook air ram?

Yes you can upgrade the ram of the mid 2011 macbook air, today I just asked an apple genius and they said they can but they cant do it in stores, they said it will cost approximately $200 but if you do it, it will be cheaper.

The guy also said that he upgraded his. He also asked other workers about upgrading the RAM and they said yes you can, but maybe he thought I was talking about a macbook pro. I think what he meant was to change the logic board.

  • How do you add RAM to a Macbook 2.1

I have a Macbook 2.1 thats about a 2006 model. It's running MAC OS X 10.5.8 and has 512mb of memory 667 MHz DDR2 SD Ram. I  want to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 but it says that I require at least 1GB of RAM.
Can anyone tell me how to do this, what i need to buy? I recently bought a new ipod nano and it won't work because i cannot update to the next level of itunes.
I'm not that computer savvy, so please keep it simple.
    Thank you. TDM.

You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/

  • Can you install iLife on a MacBook Air? No CD player.

I needed to know if you can download iLife 11" without a dvd/cd drive??!!??!!

One easy way to install applications onto a Macbook Air from CD/DVDs that you already own, if you own another Mac, is to put the optical disk into the disk drive of the other Mac and use "Disk Utility" (in the Applcations/Utilities folder) to create a Disk Image (.dmg) file of the CD/DVD. Put the disk image onto a USB flash drive. Plug the flash drive into the USB port of the Macbook Air and open the .dmg file, or transfer it to the Air first then open it (I prefer that method). After you open the .dmg file you will see a new "disk" icon on your desktop. You may have to double click on it to open it, or it may have opened automatically when you opened the .dmg file. Now it should look like you have an install CD/DVD mounted and you are ready to install software on your Macbook Air. Install the software as you would normally and viola you are done.
If you transferred the .dmg file to your Macbook Air be sure to delete it, Macbook Airs don't have a lot of disk space.

  • Can you help me return a MacBook Air that I found to the owner?

I found someone's Mac Book Air.  Can you help me determine the owner so that it can be reunited?

    Hi Detective Colombo,
You need to contact your local brothers in blue - hopefully it was reported to them and they can reunite it with the owner.
You can also contact Apple Support, and provide them with the serial number to see if the owner reported it to them, but that is not always successful.
Good citizen, detective! We salute you!

  • Can you add an image to the feed after its been submitted to iTunes?

I did not have an image prepared when I intially made my podcast feed. I know have the image and would like to add it to the feed so it appears in the iTunes store. Is there a simple way to do this? Thanks.

You can simply add it to the feed and re-upload. (You don't need to re-submit when adding episodes or making alterations.) If you are handwriting your feed (unlikely) it goes in the 'itunes:image' tag in the top section of the feed; if you are using a program or online service to create your podcast there will be somewhere you can add the image. It should ideally be 1400 x 1400 px.
Once uploaded, it will take some days before it appears in the iTunes Store.

  • How can I get sound on my MacBook Air after installation of Lion? "No output devices found" on the system preferences pane of my MacBook Air.

Since installing Lion on my MacBook Air, I get no sound and ITunes playback doesn't move. The Sound Preference pane states "No output devices found." The Bluetooth connection to a WiFi speaker works, so it must be a software problem. Anyone?

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA  audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver.  Use something like this:

  • Can you add RAM to an iBook G4?

My iBook G4 has 512 MB built-in memory. Is it possible to add to that?

Hello & welcome to Apple Support Discussions!
You may need to check the available free or unused capacity of
the computer's hard disk drive, since that is used by the System
as Virtual Memory and temporary file swaps; not just for storage.
By checking the comparative amounts of used verse free space
in the computer's hard disk drive, you should be able to tell if
the capacity of the hard drive is getting too full for continued &
safe use. Since the computer reads and writes to Virtual Memory
(hard drive capacity used as VM, to supplement chip RAM) as
the hard drive gets fuller, it will begin to corrupt System files. The
computer will try to over-write system & other files, and ruin itself.
So, the hard disk drive is getting too full, and you need to remove
image and music files from the hard disk drive (HDD) and archive
them; you can use an external hard drive and move iTunes & also
iPhoto libraries, then delete the internal libraries. Read up on it.
Ideally, if the computer is over 4 years old, it probably is time to
get a replacement hard disk drive; maybe sooner if its used alot.
If the drive is upgraded, get a larger capacity one; and if it has
    a 4,500 RPM spin-rate, see if there is a replacement with 5400.
And upgrade the RAM chip, in the location beneath the keyboard.
Be sure to get the correct one for whichever iBook G4 you have.
    The last model 'mid-2005' uses a 200-pin SO-DIMM PC2700/333.
Note the other specs that have to be met or exceeded for the RAM.
You can find computer specs for many Mac models at everymac.com
and also check out the download database at mactracker.ca online.
Also, there is a matter of routine and preventative maintenance.
This includes simple things such as booting the computer up in
SafeBoot (shift key held until you see Login, let go of the key &
login) then run Disk Utility's 'repair disk permissions' on the Mac HD
volume as it appears in the Utility. When it is done, restart normally.
You can also check, verify, and repair the hard disk drive; the Installer
DVD for the OS has a Disk Utility in the menu options, when that disc
is used as a boot volume. However, damage can be done via this disc.

So, that about covers it; there are other things to try & do to make an
older Mac with a tired and/or full hard disk drive to work a little better.
Some ideas appear as results from a search online.
Every few months or so, I run a handy utility that helps do some
behind the scenes maintenance routines that can help keep a
Mac on its toes. If used incorrectly without some reading, it may
do more or less than expected. The one I prefer is called OnyX
and is a free-running donation-ware from Titanium Software:
    • Titanium's Software - OnyX (choose version for your Mac's OS)
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/index.php
Anyway, there are several things to try & do to keep a Mac healthy.
Simple things such as 'repair disk permissions' and be sure the
hard disk drive isn't too full for the OS and Apps to work. Mine have
    near 40% to 70% free-space (iMac G4: 24GB used on a 74GB HDD.)
And give it all the RAM it can use. That's not really hard w/ an iBook.
{If you have any new questions, you can start a new topic thread of
    your own, so people will see it quick; not at the end of an old one.}
    Good luck & happy computing!
