Can you connect a pc to an iMac (to move iTunes library)?

Since nobody answered my detailed request (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5225308?tstart=60) maybe someone will be able to answer the key question.
Can you connect a laptop (with an external hard disc attached already) to an iMac, and iMac recognizing both as "hard discs" so that I can move my iTunes library from the external harddisc to the iMac?

Not on a Mac you don't. OS X doesn't use drive letters and doesn't require them.
On the PC, go to the iTunes folder (I don't know where it is stored in Windows) and copy all the .itl and .itdb files to the iTunes folder on the external HDD. Connect the external to your Mac. Launch iTunes while holding down the Option key. In the dialog select "choose library" and navigate to the iTunes folder on the external. Select and click OK. This will set up iTunes on the new Mac just like it was on the PC. You'll need to have the external HDD connected and mounted before you launch iTunes so you can listen to the music.

  • How can you transfer data from an ipod touch to the itunes library without having all your data deleted?

I have a laptop and the hard drive had to be replaced because it WILL NOT work (This broken hard drive will be refered to as "HD1" from now on). So I had no choice but to have HD1 replaced with a better hard drive (the new one will be refered to as "HD2" from now on). I had HD1 for about 5 years, but what is stuck on HD1 is my itunes library will all of my music, like I said before HD1 will not work so I cannot retrieve any of my itunes data, or any data to be exact. But also, my data that was synced in HD1's itunes library is also on my ipod touch, which is still functional for the time being. HD2 has been installed and working perfectly and I installed itunes on it as well. If I synced my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library, all of my music on the ipod touch will get deleted. What I'm trying to do is have all of my music on my ipod touch transfered to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted.
    Key things to remember:
-"HD1" is my broken hard drive
-"HD2" is my new and awesome hard drive
-I can't access HD1 at all because it doesn't work
-I have an ipod touch with all of HD1's music on it
-HD2 has an empty itunes library on it
-I need a way to transfer all the data on my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted
Is there someone, anyone who can help me out with this?

I think so when you sign in your itunes library with your apple id which you were using on HD1 the data will be transfered or simply use icloud.

  • Can you connect 2 iPods at the SAME TIME to iTunes?

I have a HUGE music library and I have 2 60 Gb iPods. I manage them manually. I'd like to connect them BOTH, AT THE SAME TIME , to make it easier to make sure they have totally different songs on each of them, and remembering is out of the question :-}. I would have to connect them both simultaneously, and be able to drag songs to either of them. Can this be done without problems?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
From what I have heard, it is possible to do so. I have never tried to do that, though, so I have no experience on this.

  • How can you give full access to your Apple ID and iTunes library to someone who moved in with you and have their own Apple ID?

As the title says, we would like to use just one account in the future, or at least fully share both account so we can share our libraries. Thanks in advance!

  • Can you connect older 27" LED Display to current iMacs?

Hi - finding conflicting information via Apple support pages and google and wanted to throw this out to the community for verification.
My endstate is to run dual 27" LEDs...one being on a current iMac and the other being a first-generation Apple 27" LED.
Can you connect a first-generation Apple 27" LED display utilizing the min-display port to the current 27" iMac (non 5K) utilizing the Thunderbolt port?  If so - is it a simple Thunderbolt-to-Thunderbolt cable or is there an adapter on the mini-display side required?  Thanks!

Niel - thanks for your reply.
With your reply, I went back and reviewed #22 and obviously misunderstood it.

Of course. As both have Thunderbolt, it's as simple as buying a Thunderbolt cable, connect them and press Command and F2 keys on the iMac, so the iMac will be used as an external display for the MacBook Air. If you want more information, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302

  • Can you connect an iMac to a Lynksys router without an airport express

can you connect an iMac to a Lynksys router without an airport express or base? I tried running it from cable>modem> wireless router and it doesn't sling to the iMac. The airport card in the Mac does seem to be on, and there is a network connection set up. It's an intel iMac7,1. I'm not familiar with Mac, I'm trying to help out a friend.
At my house I have the same configuration going  from my PC to an old Mac laptop and it works fine.
I think my friend had her wifi network set up properly, or it wouldn't be showing in the list of networks when I check.
    the router is a Lynksys WRT160N V3.
Oh, and if I do run her computer trying to use the wireless, I don't get an internet connection at all. I have to have it hardwired straight to the modem.
Sorry I've asked this twice, but I haven't had any luck. I must just not know where to find things on the Mac. I did try other places in forum before posting again.
    Any ideas? Thanks

We don't know a thing about your iMac or what version of OS X it's running so it's very difficult to help you. Please note that information and also please complete your profile, then that infomation will be listed when you post in your next thread. You can complete your profile by clicking Your Stuff in the upper right of this page then click Profile and fill in the pertinent information.

    Csound1--
If you mean does the network appear on the Mac when I look for it, then yes.
I think my friend had her wifi network set up properly, or it wouldn't be showing in the list of networks when I check.
    the router is a Lynksys WRT160N V3.
I don't think she has the security code so I can check what's actually hooked up (the network name on screen at least appears to be locked). She's had the computer out to the shop and back recently and has never even run anything off the wireless.
I have a feeling I'm going to have to call her cable provider to sort it out. I'm hoping to avoid that. I don't know Mac at all. I could troubleshoot on my PC.
Ultimately, I want to be able to hook a Roku box to her TV to run Netflix.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can you connect an Apple TV to a non-Apple Wi-Fi network?

I just purchased an AirPort express with the hopes of using it for AirTunes while being controlled by my iPhone 3G as the remote. After a number of setup issues Apple support told me that I need an Apple wireless router if I want to use AirTunes and surf the internet at the same time. AirPort express can't join an existing non-Apple Wi-Fi network, it needs to create it's own one. (This means I have to disconnect from my internet connection in order to listen to AirTunes.) Does Apple TV have this same limitation, or can you just connect Apple TV to an existing non-Apple Wi-Fi network? (I'm pretty sure that Apple TV has AirTunes too.)
My AT&T U-verse already provides me with a wireless base station; I don't want to have to purchase another one and have redundant routers.

    yes of course.
you can connect it to any wifi network (assuming you know the wifi key of course).
the host itunes library will need to be accessible on that network though.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this - do you mena connect to the Mac to access streaming media or perhaps you were wondering if the AppleTV can behave as a wireless extender to give network access to the PS3 - it can't.
If you are looking for media server solutions there are several available that run on Mac, some free some commercial.
